Hey Guys! I'm setting up my own hue lights and wanting to set them up without the bridge, to do this, I've gotta do the zigbee dongle stuff. the only concern I have is with the range of the dongle as my server is around 20m away from the rooms im setting up smart lights in. should i just use a bridge or is there some way of extending the range of the zigbee dongles range?

You extend range via routers: https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/advanced/zigbee/01_zigbee_network.html
I recommend a SLZB coordinator. You can connect it anywhere you like where there's networking and power.
use a usb extension cord. at least 0.5m. to get the dongle away from your server.
look up the zigbee channel chart and choose a channel that doesn't collide with strong wifi networks in your home. i use a wifi scanner app on my cell phone
then add the bulb closest to your dongle first. it will act as a router for the more remote ones
changing the zigbee channel later is more of a hassle, so get it right from the start
Tysm!
Is it just like a thing i can easily switch in a menu (I still havent bought the zigbee things)
