no, if something is plugged into the jack it will output to the jack
that's a pity
its a hardware thing
if you really want to you can modify the hardware to get it to play on both
that's what i was afraid of, then i'll get a smartspeaker and programme it via automations so that it plays music when i want it to
a small question: does it count if something is plugged into the aux port or if there is a device connection
it detects that something is plugged in
ah ok otherwise i could have just unplugged the speaker when no music is playing, but well, then i'll do it differently
I had conversation with Seeed guys about doing something similar to Respeaker Lite. And there''s actually a way to modify firmware for it (and make tiny solder bridge) to have ability to switch between outputs programmatically. In the end i didn't go that way, but i guess it's worth knowing that it's possible.
It is possible to software-control the internal speaker output while the external speaker is plugged. It's an easy mod (simply remove one leg of transistor Q2). Then the internal speaker can be used while there is an external speaker connected. You can also en-/disable the internal speaker software-wise. So you can play only on the external speaker or on both the external and internal speaker. You'd need to find out how to decide when music is played vs when voice output is played.
Yeah, the only downside is that external speaker will be always playing...
