I stick with the hue bridge so I can use the scenes built into hue. Run a separate zigbee network through HA.

When using original Hue lights, its indeed better to use the Hue bridge as it will control the lights in an optimized way. For example the dynamic scenes run on-bulb, causing as less traffic as possible. Replicating that with a regular zigbee stick will cause a bunch of traffic, especially when using groups.

You can simply run a secondary ZHA network with all other devices just fine

I’ve never liked bulbs as routers. Grandma comes over and turns off all your light switches or turns off the lamp and wrecks your zigbee network. I like to use outlets/plugs or in-wall switches/dimmers.

North America? 1 gang, 2 switches? Neutral wire?

What year was the house built? Neutral wire or not will make a big difference in device choice. Lutron caseta is solid, though.

Or, just replace it with a smart switch that has detached relay/smart bulb mode

Bonus, make it a zigbee switch, then bind the switch to the bulb(s)
