#Z-wave JS network is showing all wired devices dead

I did an update on Monday with HA (I think z-wave js to 4.0.4 as well) and yesterday my network went offline. The controller is online but it seems that something is sending a broadcast storm out over the network and keeping the controller from interviewing nodes.

Running a Tubes-ZB with a ZAC93 and until this is has been rock solid. Thinking this might be an issue with HA I did a restore from a backup last week when everything was fine and no go, the z-wave network is still showing everything dead.

Any suggestions or logs that I should be looking at to figure out what the heck is going on?

Z-Wave JS UI addon - 4.0.4
HASS Core - 2025.4.1
HASS Supervisor - 2025.03.4
HASS OS - 15.1
ZAC93 - FW: v1.50, SDK: v7.22.1

Maybe try to restart HA and the Addon. Perhaps some weirdness after the update today?

grim narwhal
#

I've restarted HA, restarted the z-wave js add-on, restarted the controller, done different orders, timings, etc.

#

I just disabled z-wave integration, reset the z-wave controller to factory and did an nvm restore from last week

#

I should say, rset the z-wave controller, restarted the controller, restarted z-wave js add-on, then did a NVM restore

#

immediately upon completion it starts trying to query every node and I'm back to the same

#

11 at ProtocolInfo, 33 at NodeInfo

#

I'm assuming that my controller is corrupt/dieing or something because I can't believe 40+ nodes failed over night

I would have tried reverting to add-on v3.24.0

#

did your HA backup include that version?

rustic pebble

The ZwaveJS Addon is not loaded or running, is it? The messages above are about the ZwaveJS UI addon. You have to run one or the other...

grim narwhal
#

Add-on is running

grim narwhal
#

argh, no I don't have that backup BUT I have full system backups that might have that version

rustic pebble
#

I am trying to verify that you do NOT have the Zwave JS Addon loaded and running. It is very easy to click the wrong box and it installs itself.

grim narwhal
#

so I don't have the add-on specific backup BUT I have system backups

👍

grim narwhal
#

So to downgrade an add-on is the easiest way to uninstall it

#

and then install the old one (it's a tar gz)

#

@wet tusk so got a restore of 3.2.4 and everything isn't trying to connect and constantly reinterview so that is good

#

BUT a ton of devices are showing as dead but bring Complete on the Interview

#

and I just did two individual node interviews instead of a mass one

#

node 20 in the logs

Do another NVM restore from that backup?

grim narwhal
#

Restored 3.2.4 z-wave js ui, restored the nvm backup from that day too and still no go

#

Some nodes show as available but when I try to switch them it starts spinning. I think my controller is broken, going to try to get a backup setup.

@wet tusk Question for you since I saw you responding to z-wave threads in archive. Do you know if you can program an Aeotec Gen5+ Stick as a z-wave sniffer? If so where can you download the z-wave programmer program? All the links I'm finding to silabs are coming up with Simplicy Studio 5 downloads. I've got that installed and can connect the z-wave controller software to the stick and seem old configs but I can't get Simplicity Commander to load the device to flash it.

#

probably because I can't find the drivers

wet tusk
#

I tried a Gen5 as a zniffer and it worked poorly. Range was bad. Not sure why. Could also not convert it back.

grim narwhal
#

it's my oldest device and been in a box unused for a while that's why I was going to convert it, I have a Zooz ZST39 but that's my backup for my ZAC93 which is my controller right now

#

I'm just frustrated beyond belief because I can't figure out what is going on. I think I've got a rogue (or rogues) device on my network spamming the crap out of it, everything is timing out BUT a couple of device associations I have for 3-way emulation are working so I know some traffic is getting through but HA shows everything offline. Z-wave JS has two devices that I did node interviews Wednesday afternoon still processing.

#

Next step I think is to shutoff circuits until I find the circuit with the rogue device(s) on it

grim narwhal
#

I only have a couple of LR devices which I don't THINK are the issue (they are newish Zooz devices, last 6 months). I have a feeling it's an older GE/Jasco switch

wet tusk
grim narwhal
#

yeah I have seen that, I'm in central location, I don't have many temp/power sensors on z-wave, those are zigbee, I'll have to verify background rssi

grim narwhal
#

okay how do I get the RSSI being seen?

wet tusk
#

background RSSI sensor entities in HA or driver logs

grim narwhal
#

going to have to do driver logs, it doesn't look like I have that sensor exposed using the tubes-ZB /w zac93... downside to the poe controller I see

wet tusk
#

it's an HA feature, nothing to do with tubes

#

Can't remember if disabled by default.

grim narwhal
#

it's disabled by default on the controller, thanks didn't even look there, enabled ALL THE SENSORS!!!

wet tusk
#

you must be using z-wave js ui, it's also available in the network graph

grim narwhal
#

got it!

#

and my system is back to stable a bit as I switched off 5 circuits and the devices on them, no to turn them on 1 by 1 to see

grim narwhal
#

If I factory reset a node, it should be removed from the network and not spam that network with traffic right? or do I need to physically power it off?

wet tusk
#

If it supports the feature, it will send a locally reset message to the controller and Z-Wave JS will remove it

#

Or you can power it off and then remove failed node

grim narwhal
#

I want to rip my z-wave network out, I can't figure out what node is causing me problems, nodes appear/disappear, RSSI looks fine. I'm thinking of factory resetting everything and starting fresh

#

ugh

#

BUT I tried that with another controller and instance of z-wave js and nothing would include
