#Z-Wave JS UI - constant 'new version' message...see no way to install/upgrade

I am constantly getting 'UPDATES' notifications, and I usually jump right on them. Today, I upgraded the Z-Wave JS from 3.2.4 to 4.0.0 (as I have done numerous times in the past). I am plagued with these 'pop-ups' when the add-on/integration restarts, and I am trying to understand why and how to perform the "other" upgrade.

Then if I click on anything - - this other 'pop-up' shows with the change log.

I am not finding anyway to install this 'new' version. Can someone advise the steps I need to make sure that I am fully updated??

Turn off the notification in the settings

I know I can turn them off - but I would prefer to know "how do I upgrade"?

When you use add-ons you are going by the add-on installed version.

#

The upgrade path is to upgrade the add-on, whenever it's updated

#

You'll need to run ZUI outside of HAOS if you want that flexibility

#

Or build your own add-on

#

The add-ons have their own update mechanism and notifications in HA. When the add-on upgrade is available you'll see a new version, like 4.0.1.

@crystal condor Maybe you can assist. I am currently running HAOS on HP T620 (ThinClient) and have Zwave and Zigbee dongles. The Wi-Fi card gives me Bluetooth. All seem to be working, but the ZWave does wierd things. If I unplug the ZooZ 700 USB Zwave dongle, and reboot. Uninstall all Zwave stuff and then reboot. Then plug in the Dongle, it seems that it installs the ZWAVE JS, but I have no way to see things (dashbaord). I have to install the WZAVE JS UI for that. Do I have to have both?

I am looking to move to a new install of HA on a Proxmox server and I want to separate out the ZWAVE and ZIGBEE - trying to understand the MQTT stuff and what is needed for this. Got any good links to help understand how to do it properly?

You can install Z-Wave JS UI and the integration manually. You dont' need to use the auto-discovery.

Only one of them

#

The USB stick should be plugged in and passed to the VM while you are installing and configuring Z-Wave JS UI.

What about this new build I am doing? I have Proxmox setup and an HA VM, a MariaDB LXC and InfluDB LXC. I want to install an MQTT LXC too (using these scripts: https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/ ) -- Can I install one MQTT and then separate out the ZWave and Zigbee into their own?

I wouldn't use MQTT for Z-Wave and HA.

#

You could install Z-Wave JS UI in proxmox instead of an add-on, if you wanted. I think there's a script for that.

#

but you should still use the Z-Wave integration, not MQTT

gaunt dragon
#

Is there a reason for no MQTT and ZWave? I am waiting on an ZW-800 to use on the new system - as my ZW-700 a little old.

Also do you know why the battery levels no longer show in ZWave for my Schlage Door Locks (I have 3) - and I used to be able to see battery levels. That stopped working about Dec after one of the updates to the JS UI.

better integration with HA

#

if you want to use MQTT, go for it, there's not really any support here for that.

gaunt dragon
#

...and even after uninstalling all ZWave stuff - still getting updates needed pop-up. 😦

crystal condor
#

Not sure what you were attempting to do, you were already using ZUI

gaunt dragon
#

I uninstalled ZWave JS and ZWave JS UI. Powered down and rebooted without the ZW dongle in. Once it was up. I shut down again, and plugged in the dongle and powered on.

I let HA see the dongle and I got this - which is seeing my devices.

#

I then went to add-ons and installed the UI - so that I have that interface.

#

and I get this:

crystal condor
#

You didn't follow the instructions in the add-on

gaunt dragon
#

but I did it appears that HA installed the ZWave JS and set it up automatically and the UI does not see the dongle or something - as if it is already in use.

#

How do I do this if HA installed it automatically?

crystal condor
#

It doesn't install it automatically. You must have done it.

#

The correct way to install ZUI add-on is to follow the instructions in the docs (I linked above, or visible in the add-on page itself) and don't use any "discovery" installation

I am going to restore from backup - FULL that I took FEB 12.

crystal condor
#

I'm still unclear why you uninstalled. Was this moving to the new host?

I do not understand why the UI keeps showing a pop-up that there is an UPDATE - if it will not update it.

crystal condor
#

I explained that at the beginning

#

turn off the notification in the settings

gaunt dragon
gaunt dragon
# crystal condor turn off the notification in the settings

I understand that - but I want to know 'why' it does not update. If there is an update - what is it seeing, and why does it not update? I am one of those that wants to understand 100% anything I see in the logs - and try to eliminate the errors/messages.

crystal condor
#

Z-Wave JS UI is a standalone application, the add-on is just a wrapper around it

Well did the restore - but most all of my integrations are no longer working. 😦

I get this when I go to SETTINGS >> DEVICES & SERVICES ... and this when I try and go to SETTINGS >> SYSTEM. All the others HACS, Terminal, File Editor - just give white screen.
