I’m looking for a way to update OTA my Aqara radiator thermostat E1, but every forum post or reddit thread point me to z2m, which I’d prefer not to switch to if possible as my network is already implemented and working on ZHA.

Any suggestions?

You can enable the Z2M OTA image repo within ZHA:

zha:
  zigpy_config:
    ota:
      extra_providers:
        - type: z2m

Is it the only thing required? Is it documented anywhere?

That's all you need. Since you have a battery powered device it'll need to be awake to respond to the OTA check in broadcast when you check for new updates in HA. Make sure to poke a button on it as you check for them.
