I configured the new auto backups, but they don't seem to run. Nothing in the logs to indicate why, anything I am missing here?

I just tried running the configured backup manually by pressing the "backup now" button, and it worked fine. So for some reason, the scheduled part just doesn't seem to be firing...

Turns out it was a permissions issue, the backups were happening but homeassistant wasn't able to read them after creating them

i'm getting this Preparing backup of Home Assistant Core failed. Check HA Core logs. in the google drive addon, the integrated backup fails too. so 🤷‍♀️

It was an ACL issue on my NAS rather than a HA issue

Hmm ok. Mine seems not to be firing at all. Not sure why. Not using NAS or anything weird. Just local storage

I'll be honest, I'm not convinced by the backups in HA, when I attempted a restore it didn't seem to work. I'm not relying on them, I also snapshot the entire VM as well.
