I am a total noob but did enough research to get the main idea. I am looking for a hardware to run HA on, but I must admit i dont really know anything about computer specs or what things I want to consider. I dont mind scrapping or buying used. The scope of what I want to do right now is very basic curtians and light stuff. If I need more power later on, I will upgrade from there.
there is no budget but just because this is mostly for learning I want it to be CHEAP CHEAP!

Go on eBay and buy a used (U)SFF PC. Tower PCs are usually even cheaper.

Thin clients fall under that, yes. I'd recommend one with real storage though. As in SATA/NVMe.

Not too ancient, at least 2 cores and 2-4GB of memory depending on what you want to do.
