You need automation: !include automations.yaml in your configuration.yaml

#

It should be there by default, but for some reason some people seem to miss it.

I have no idea what TrueNAS does 🤷
Usually installing addons within home assistant is limited to those running Home Assistant Operating System, which I guess you don't.
You're probably running the docker version I imagine.

#

So in that case you're more on your own for file management, etc. You should have some way via SSH to access your configuration file. You won't get very far without ability to read/write that.

so basically with the docker version or whichever one i have, theres no way to manually edit the config files?

Not from within the web UI itself, you edit it through a console terminal.

which i probably dont have access to because its through an app in truenas, not on its own dedicated maching/VM

I suggest search the community forum, I'm sure you're not the first person to run this kind of configuration.

You certainly can access things in truenas app containers - just open up the console

But also. Fuck truenas
