#How to update from Raspberry Pi 4 to 5?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
ok thanks 🙂 i try this
Does it also transfere self made python scripts?
if you do a full backup it should take everything but maybe take a copy of anything that's "extra custom" just in case
I think the best way is to buy a Beelink and skip the incremental bump of a pi5, You will be a happyier person.
yeah this is probably good advice but if you already have the rpi upgrade and want to go that way then i doing a full backup then restoring it to a fresh install on the 5 is the way to go
Still no. I wouldn't run HA on a PI if you paid me at this point.
specially not on an SD card. i currently run on a yellow which is a cm4 with a nvme ssd. however i probably will switch to a n100 at some point. will see what holiday sales bring me. and i have a few other investments that are probably higher up the list
Those beelinks are fast and cheap, just saying...
And I think a coral will work in them.
yeah, my dad uses one as a desktop. i got it for him to replace an aging system and i figured if it didnt work out i could use it for something. I am very impressed with it and yeah will probably be getting one for myself at some stage
i have other servers for various services but want to keep HA seperate so i dont loose my automations if i am working on the servers
I mean, if buying new, I'd go there at this point. I'm happy with a 10-YO PC bare metal HAOS at this point though (one in each of 2 houses)
yeah thats fair. some friends have asked me about the yellow and my responce is that. i like it and its great but i wouldnt recomend it over a n100
Now fo my relative that isn't going to program beyond turning on lights, I'd get a green.
Basic hub duty, no cameras, etc.
yeah thats fair
But for me the bump from a Pi4 to a Pi5 for HA, not worth it.
Here's some of my (outdated) thoughts on the pi and other non x86 SBCs against a x86 machine: #installation-archived message
TLDR: I kinda hate everything non x86. I don't like that fact as it's good to have options and I do want to love them but at the moment this is how I feel.
Question: I made fresh install on sdcard and insert into rspi5 and its blinking and than start flickering. no hdmi output and no network activity. any ideas?
maybe is hould try flashing 12.3
It will take 30mins to an hour to build the HA instance. Be patient.
There's not a lot of feedback.
i tryed already for an hour :/
the fan also stops
i try again.
ok same problem after 1h
can you try a different SD card? maybe its having troubles?
I still have the same problem. I have tried the installation with USB and Sdcard. I also made sure that I have the 5amp power supply and enough GB on the SD card or USB drive. None of this works. The USB/Sdcard LED flashes for a while and then nothing happens. There is no HDMI output nothing. SD card of course only has an LED indicator via the Arduino. Im out of ideas 😦
