I think I have a problem where the history card will show a previous value repeatedly rather than an updated value, when either there is no new value or the value or 0 or I am not sure exactly. I'm running into it with Ikea Inspelning metering smart plugs. I don't know what to blame for this

Yes, I found that. but it's not an openapi spec, just documentation. An openapi spec will enable code generation for the rest client.

I have some outdoor lights doing weird things and no clue where its coming from as in which APP as I have done things in ALEXA, GOOGLE AND HOME ASSISTANT to automate these to come on when I return home. But they are only 2 sets o flights coming on and them two are during the day when I want them to be set to sunset, which they seem to be set ok in Home Assistant so I'm clueless to where they are set also in Google and Alexa I set 4 sets os lights to come on not two. So Im not fully sure if Home Assistant is doing it or the other Apps to try to make changed. I also no clue who to ask for help on this as my all setup seems messed up. Remove variables until it works, then fix the thing that you removed. If you remove all of the smart speakers and it’s still broken start over in ha, then add variables testing with each device add.

Hi, I'm having an issue with my week-old generic x86 hardware based homeassistant. The error is "Error returned from Supervisor: System is not ready with state: setup". It was working the first couple of days, then I needed to shut it down for a couple days while I rearranged the room it was in, and when I turned it back on it was doing this.

I don't care about reinstalling HAOS from scratch, but I'd like to know why this happened in the first place.

A bit of a late WTH moment, I bought 13 new lights for my living room, luckily grouped in 4 groups, but I just found out that favorite colors are not a global state, but instead stored per light. Is there any way to change the system default favorite colors for all lights? 😅

There definitely doesn't seem to be a place for this question. Just installed a HA setup on a Pi, first time user. It seems like I'm missing a lot of UI bits in it. Lots of things seem like they should have labels and/or graphics that are just not there. Most egregious I've found so far is the power button menu
... which just has icons and no text at all. I have no idea what any of the icons mean, so I don't know what to do. I can't paste in images here, I guess, so I can't show it

I am looking for information about the Inkbird core integration. I have some devices that are listed in homeassistant/components/inkbird/manifest.json
but are not detected when I try to setup the integration... My devices are not listed as supported on the actual documentation page for that integration though. Trying to figure out if I need a different type of BT/BLE adapter to be able to detect them, or if my device (ITH-13-B) isn't actually supported yet.

Hi everyone, I recently installed HA on my TrueNAS.. i set up my HA account, and went to add the Google Assistant SDK, followed all the instructions within Google Cloud and pasted my OAuth Client ID and Secret.. it asks if I want to link Google to HA but when I get to the My.Home-Assistant.io/redirect/oauth.. what is "Your instance URL" supposed to be? Ive tried almost everything and tried many different solutions online but none work they all lead to "this site cant be reached... dns_probe_possible" or other variations of it.. am i missing a step or something? Do i need to port forward something?

Hi I am trying to make my own HA OS image for a board. The image boots and HA works, with only issue being wifi not getting detected. The wifi chip is broadcom 4359 and firmware for it is not in the linux-firmware package. I have created my own firmware package adding the required files. Now when I create the ha os image, the required firmware files are present in /lib/firmware/brcm directory. Still wifi doesn't get detected on boot. But If I reload the brcmfmac driver using root login on tty2, its able to load the firmware files and wifi interface appears

Greetings! In the windows (11) network window, when I double click the HA icon (or right->view device page) it fails with "no such interface supported", instead of opening a web browser and navigating to the HA dash. If I click on properties, I see correct network url (https://mydomainname:port) , which is correctly clickable.

Hello everyone. I am currently running 2025.03.4 and have attempted upgrading to Home Assistant Core 2025.04.0 twice now. In both cases, it appears to go through the entire upgrade and reboot process, but then lands back in 2025.03.4 showing 2025.04.0 waiting on the Settings page. I am running HA exclusively (no OS) on a Dell Optiplex mini PC. Where should I go to troubleshoot this?

Now all of the docker containers wont run and give me a daemon error failed to set up container networking: network xxx not found. My HA runs on a raspberry pi. Is there anyone that could help me?

Hello all! I recently attempted to update to 15.1, but on reboot i was unable to load my HKI-based dashboard, and the following error shows up : while scanning for the next token found character '%' that cannot start any token in "/config/hki-base/base.yaml", line 4, column 2. I rolled back to 15.0, but am getting the same error message. The line the error message references is:
{% for name, data in _global.views.items() %}, and is the first non-commented line in the file. Anyone have any thoughts?

Based on everything I could find - the integration is not abandoned (source was last updated within 2025) and there are several reasons why one would have troubles connecting a Netgear device (including having private IP addresses or issues with your DDNS).

If you would like help solving whatever you are running into, you can post in #1284966540617449515 (with the Networking tag) or #1284966582375813201 (with the Integration tag); alternatively, you can post on the Discourse forums (where I found some people chose instead to use Nmap). But until you have done troubleshooting and provided logs, posting on GitHub won't get you very far.

Hi - new HA user here and loving it 🙂

I have a question and not sure where to go...! I have the Honeywell Evohome system at home and I have connected this to Home Assistant via the Evohome integration (non-US Honeywell Total Connect).

It seems the temperature being displayed in the Thermostat Card is not the same temperature as being reported in the Total Connect phone app.

Looking at the States within Developer Tools there seem to be a number of temperatures reported including:

current_temperature
temperature
temperature_status > temperature

It seems that the Thermostat card is reporting the value within current_temperature, but the figure reported within the Total Connect phone app is the value within temperature_status > temperature...

Could this be an integration issue, or is there something else at play?

I assume "temperature_status > temperature" shows the target temperature in your app and "current_temperature" the detected room temperature, right?

temperature: this is the target temperature the room has been set to within the phone app

temperature_status > temperature: this is the current room temperature as reported by the phone app

Okay, in that case #1284966582375813201 might be able to help.
The card uses "current_temperature" (should be the room temperature detected by the thermostat - might differ from temperature sensors in the room for TRVs, as they are close to the radiator and wall) and "temperature" (the target temperature).

Good morning! I have a process that generates a stream of JSON objects, and I would like to integrate it into Home Assistant as some kind of generic device. My goal is to run a couple of trivial automations in HA based on the JSON data -- when a particular value goes below a threshold, turn something on; when that value goes above a different threshold, turn that something off. Hey folks, new user here. I have some Sensibo AC controller devices in HA and this morning added 2 more. These new devices auto named themselves, patrick1 and patrick2. i wanted to change that name and started renaming where i could. now im stuck with a bunch of entity IDs that are incorrectly named and make it more difficult to identify when creating dashboards. Hello, Ive had HA running on Synology Container, but I wan't to run it on Synology VM so I can have all the addons.
I used the Generic x86-64 image

I’m just getting started setting up Home Assistant. Looking to switch from Homebridge to HA due to how annoying Apple HomeKit automations are.

To test, I’ve loaded the Denon AVR Network Receivers integration to see how it works. But the docs refer to a bunch of commands that look like CLI commands or maybe to be used in a python script or something?

Running HAOS, Core is currently 2025.3.4, supervisor 2025.03.4, OS 15.1, frontend 20250206.0.
I've tried updated to 2025.4 (and now 2025.4.1), and it seems to keep failing. The Supervisor logs show: 2025-04-05 22:27:46.947 ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.homeassistant.core] Home Assistant has crashed!

I am getting these errors after 4.0. Any ideas. They seem to be associated with my weatherflow Tempest sensor.

If an integration is capturing information such as a pin or PSK in plaintext when logging (at least with debug), should I just report this as an issue in Github? I wouldn't consider it a security vulnerability, but that information should be redacted when it's generated. Hello everyone,
I am trying to implement Aqara smoke sensors(SD-S01E) into my HA using Z2M.
Pairing the sensor was no Problem and the sensor itself is working as expected (starts alarm when there is smoke).
There is one big problem:
once the alarm starts, an mqtt message gets pushed but the main property (smoke) which indicates if there is smoke stays on "false".
Here is the payload from the Z2M log:

Does anyone know (or know where to ask) if there are pitfalls to using a build backup (from UI on Home Assistant Green) as an "image" for multiple servers. It would have things like HACS, NodeRed, Studio Code Server etc already installed on it, but then customized for the new house. Was thinking there could be problems with Home Assistant cloud (each house would have their own account) or HACS maybe. Any direction or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi! Not sure where to post this. I was resetting my router and made sure to keep ssid and passwords the same. I also can tell that my home sssistant server is using the same ip address. However, for some reason the server keeps crashing. It’ll open the web ui and then say that it’s lost connection. Unfortunately I can’t find logs due to crashing. Node red on a different computer can reach it and then it’ll disconnect. I can ping it just fine, but not ssh. Finally I have a picture of logs on the cli

if you can ssh in even briefly, you could try to issue ha core restart --safe-mode before it shits the bed. Might get you to a stage where you can ssh in and view logs

Not sure where to post this as it doesn't seem to align with the descriptions there.

I noticed a problem last night where I had 21k unnamed devices. Googling around I saw similar issues that others were having with addon causing the same issue, however I do not have any of the Addons that the resources I found were about. The workaround was to restart the Addons to clear out the unnamed devices.

I rebooted my full system because I don't know what addon could be doing this.

This morning I have 1900 unnamed devices.

What logging do I need to turn on in order to figure out what is causing this?

Please advise me on exactly which github location to post a bug to: I've got an MQTT device/sensor that senses acceleration ( p'' = v' = a, not speed or displacement), and hence is measured in "g" . MQTT broker in HA complains that "Entity sensor.adxl345_666194_adxl345_666194_accel (<class 'homeassistant.components.mqtt.sensor.MqttSensor'>) is using native unit of measurement 'G' which is not a valid unit for the device class ('speed') it is using; expected one of ['m/s', 'in/s', 'in/h', 'mph', 'Beaufort', 'km/h', 'mm/s', 'mm/d', 'ft/s', 'kn', 'in/d', 'mm/h']; " Works but would like to conform to HA's parameters. I am looking at the Home Green assistant as well as the voice assistant preview and also the zigbee usb looking tool.

I'm not sure if the voice assistant preview is a standalone device that could work with himw assistant as a in just downloaded in a PC for instance, or if I need a hardware device such as home green kit.

Aside from that, what's the recommended setup to buy for integrating multiple devices including echo, nest hub, eero, Govee, Samsung/smarthings, etc, as well as introducing ai tools to that if it's possible. My goal is to improve current integration, responses, etc.

You can keep history, but you need to do some database manipulation.

I had a scraper that I changed to MQTT, entity names changed and I lost everything.

It took me a whole night, but I managed to move the data over and change the entity to the new one. Now I have my history!

Wasn't too fun, but its doable.

When you restore the backup, it brings everything over.

#

But, when you install hass on your VM, it will onboard you and you will think its not going to work.

But if you follow the on boarding, and then restore backup from the old machine it will work. It asks you to enter your old backup key, then the install just works and it works exactly like your old setup.

Make sure you include history in your backup, of course!

Then once you have your existing setup in the new VM, you can get your devices again.

If any end up with new entity names and you need to copy data, you can do that last to get all your history back...

After upgrading to Core 2025.4.2 / OS 15.2 (from 2024.4.1 / 15.1), my statistics platform seems to have gotten messed up (you can see this thread). I just tried downgrading back to 2025.4.1. I am having some really weird issues with HAOS (on a Beelink mini-pc). Integrations that are suddenly not working anymore (cant find my roborock) . Some pages in the UI taking super long to load, and often timing out. Automations that are delayed (lights controlled by motion sensors) . ESP devices I cant connect to.This is what jumps out to me in the logs

Hi guys, I'm having trouble connect my blinds to home assistant through thread. It won't connect, says it can't securely connect but when I reset the thing I can add it to apple homekit without a hitch.

For both homekit and home assistant my Apple TV is the border router and a while back it was working, but then all the window blinds were replaced and now I can't get it to work.

hey, just got a PI 5 today and wanting to start a fresh with me HA.

i have used the correcft imaging tool for the PI with the HA software onto an SSD. once this was completed and the pi booted i waited for the typical install which has been giving me the following message.

I've sold my house with HA included. I don't really want the new owner to have all my history. Can I just delete the SQLite database file? I'm not supper worried, but it feels weird to give them all my historic location data and stuff like that. Maybe I can just delete my iPhone related data? Hey there, i want to rebadge home assistant companion app to use some icons that i designed. i have successfully made the changes and tested in my local environment. now i want to build a docker image to install it on my mini home server.

i tried with the Dockerfile inside Core repo, and used the ghcr.io/home-assistant/aarch64-base-python:3.13-alpine3.19 as BUILD_FROM arg.

but it overwrites my changes that i made in frontend repo which then manually installed in core.

When im trying to upgrade from my current HA core from 2025.4.1 my HA shuts down without upgrading and i have to start HA manually again. After this all works as before but i still can see that there are a upgrade to do, im stuck in a loop here.
Are there any installation logs or any other logs i can have a look at to see what might cause this problem?
Im running HA in proxmox thats running on a nuc.

Hi all.
My HA Is installed in a VM in a Synology NAS.
I run backup Daily with upload on Cloud in my Nabu Casa account.
Yesterday I mess up my installation and wanted tò restore from backup my installation.
Problemi Is that even if I have supervisore and lots of addon in my backup, I cant restore them inside a VM.
So at the moment I have a full backup which I cant restore.
Any suggestion other than buy a piece of hardware and install my backup on It?

Hi. For some reason HA recorded a totally out of scope value for a battery sensor (it recorded 3400%), which messes up graphs etc. - is there a way to fix it? DB file is locked while HA is running, and I can only access the filesystem of HAOS while it is running. So is there any other way?

Hey everyone, I just had a really cool idea, and I have no clue how to do it.

Background: I have a pool in my backyard and I want a way to play music easily. I want to use music assistant

So my idea is as follows (most likely a pi) mounted with a touchscreen that allows people to select music off of it and play it ONLY ON THAT DEVICE (preferably).

The hard part for me is the Touchscreen and housing, I don’t know how to code and I don’t know how do model things (i can use tinker cad lol) Hoping that there are some cool people here that geek out and can help me out

I'm looking for help fixing some problems with my Open Thread Border Router integration. Everything was working fine, then after several power outages, my original thread devices quit working. I added new devices, and they work fine. The problem is that OTBR started using the IPv6 ULA fd1d which it can't communicate with. It can communicate with devices on the original fd16 network. How do I access the OTBR web interface? How do I access the OTBR container? I'm using a HA Yellow device.

Hi, in my log I see the following warning which indicates incorrect sensor configuration. I know the sensor configuration come from the addon "HoyMiles Solar Gateway stable Addon" - a Hoymiles cloud to MQTT transformer. So I opened a ticket in the addon repo instead of open a core issue. But now the maintainer asked how to fix. Does anybody know about details / recommendations how to fix?

Last night everything worked fine last night, lights went off at 10 like they are supposed to, I went to bed. This morning they did not come back on at 5:30 like they should have.

Looking for advice in terms of what to do with my HA set up. I currently have HASSOS installed on a rPi4 and have found a few addons for it such as adguard and, tautulli, scrypted and a few others. Its been a while but I can't remember why i went the route of HASSIO, but theres been a few things i would like to add via docker that aren't in teh add ons or seem to be supported (Overseerr) I currently have a Synolgoy (which is running my Radarr and Sonarr stuff, but its struggling to also have Overseerr on it. I also have a M1 mac Mini that acts as teh PLEX server. (which i like to keep clean for when any transcoding is needed) Firslty, is there a way to get Overseerr on my HA set up, or are there any recomendations of what to do with my stuff to make better use of them

I like that I get traces during startup in the Observer before I can access a shell to look at traces like HA su logs. But when the HAOS (?) has started the Observer just tells you the status of Supervisor etc. Then it can be a dark period between Supervisor (?) is ready until I get a shell. Question: Is there any way to get the Observer to continue to show the traces?

I just downloaded the haos_ova-15.2.vdi image but I'm unable to boot it in VirtualBox. I've tried various settings, including enabling and disabling EFI, but Home Assistant OS (HAOS) still won't start. I even attempted to manually launch bootx64.efi from the EFI shell, but received the error:

I would like to create an issue and potentially dig into the relevant repo to try to fix this, but I'm unsure if it falls under Frontend (which is showing these warnings) or Supervisor (which is reporting these warnings).

I noticed today while adding a drive to my NAS that Home Assistant's dialogs for warning that a network mount is down are inconsistent. I have screenshots of this saved that I can't attach here. In the first image, my backups folder has the "Reload" and "Remove" options in one order and in the second my media drive (which is named after the local hostname of the NAS, I've obscured it) has them in another order.

I ended up deleting my configuration for the backups folder and having to re-add it because I assumed they'd be in the same order. Not a huge ordeal, but it was annoying.

This could be an integrations thing or an automations thing. I have a device that populates MQTT roughly once a second with a set of values. I would like to set up a watchdog automation to trigger when over a minute has passed without an update. One challenge I’ve noticed is that HA doesn’t seem to acknowledge a new datapoint with the same value — if the value was 15 at 07:48:12 and was reported every second after that as 15 until it went to 14 at 08:15:25, HA sees only the two named datapoints. I could modify my device to have another value that represents time-since-the-epoch, and then alert on a different between that time and the current time, but I’m concerned about what kind of impact that would have on whatever backend database HA uses. Which channel is the right one to ask about how to best handle this?

hello, my HASS doesn't boot, it says "waiting for root device partuuid=xxx". I think the UUID is wrong as it is not listed on my proxmox devices.
I don't have access to HASS backups, and restoring the proxmox backup file doesn't change the uuid.
I think if i edit the grub line to a correct uuid it would work but how do i know what to fill in ? thanks

I have an issue that is driving me nuts: I've updated the certificates in /ssl (and confirmed that I'm looking at the right versions with sha1sum) but my NGINX Proxy Addon is still serving the certificates that expired days ago:

I've rebooted the whole instance after updating the certificates.
I've even uninstalled and re-installed the NGINX SSL Proxy Add-on.

I've tried connecting to the docker container running the NGINX Proxy add-on, and find / -name \*.pem only finds my stuff in /ssl and the Cert Authorities I'd expect in /etc/ssl/certs.

If y'all have suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I swear I can't figure out what I'm missing.

I have an external touchscreen monitor (not a tablet) with a Raspberry Pi 5. I was thinking I could install "FullPageOS" onto the Pi and then use the HA supervised installer. I could configure FullPageOS to load the home-assistant page and use the touch screen to interact with Home Assistant.
Will that work? Has anyone done it? I know HA is basically just a web app but a 15" external monitor for $110 is way cheaper than finding an android tablet to repurpose.

I recently updated HAOS Core on my VM (I'm running it in proxmox), after a few hours I noticed it wasn't responding so I rebooted it, and now the console appears to be stuck, and the web ui never comes up. Proxmox also warns me it has an io-error. Not sure where to go about this!

Hello , for some reason since last update of home assistant the visulization of Thermostat Cards in my tablet Samsung is ultra bugged and makes unresponsible the usage of the dashboard , after deleting them im able to use the other elements but for some reason the 3 cards i used daily for the ACs of my home produce this visual bug , i tried to update the app , deleting the cache , restarting the device and nothing works , same behaviour while using the "Wallpanel" APP.

I have a weird issue and no idea where to look: Certain config changes in HA (deleting an automation, clicking 'deploy' in Node Red, deleting a device, and more) causes the UI to lose connection to HA for about 5 minutes. This loss spans devices (phones, browsers, etc). No device can connect to HA, but automations still work, backend is up. Nothing is logged, HA frontend just doesn't work. I am running HA OS (latest) in a VM on Unraid with PLENTY of allocated resources (4 cores, 8GB Memory, plenty of disk space)

I’ve been using HA for over a decade, and the attitude towards (now prospective paying customers) really needs to be addressed.
Either it’s an open source community (both key parts being open source/contribution & community) or a dictatorship - it can’t be both.

Whilst there is good intention and effort to implement new things, was it a decision based on an idea or research with the community? based on feedback across Reddit, the forum itself and others in this thread, the forum functionality of discord is not liked in general (not specifically the HA implementation).

I’ve said my piece, it’s clearly not going to change - which is a shame as the well grouped chit-chat prior to this structure yielded much more than just getting a question answered.

I see in the API documentation that there is JSON for retrieving the state of every entity (type": "get_states"). Is there a way to retrive the state of a single, specific entity? Hello, I want to turn on/off the lights based on the playing/paused state of the projector, but the androidTV remote integration in home assistant doesn’t work reliably, in youtube and disney+ it states playing or paused correctly, but when using Jellyfin it is always stuck on Idle, and when using Netflix it’s always stuck on playing, even when paused. After researching that issue is due to the developers not bothering to set the state detection rules correctly. So some people recommend that I use the Android Debug Bridge Integration since it allows me to customize the state detection rules, so I did, and got the “audio_state” and “wake_lock_size” for each app in each state and set up the custom state rules. But found out it is still always stuck at idle, after investigating, turns out even though the ADB integration reports the “audio_state” and “wake_lock_size” correctly, but the “current_app” is always “none” when using a 3rd party app. If I open the settings app it becomes “current_app: settings” but when opening any other app like Jellyfin, Netflix, Youtube, etc. it returns none. I tried installing an independent ADB server in a docker container and connect the GoogleTV projector to it, and then connecting Home Assistant to the server, but still the same “current_app: none” problem. Andy idea how to fix it? I just want a reliable way that tells me if the projector is Playing or Paused.

I'm an utter noob, so please be kind!
Used RPi Imager 1.8.5 to set up HA OS 15.2(RPi5) on a WD Blue SN580 1TB then installed into an Argon case.
Got PC and RPi5 connected to same network by cables (tried pc via WiFi initially, same result).
Got PC to connect to HA and start download starts fine then always gets caught in a loop of error and restart from failing to get an inode. Presuming an error between me and server to get download.
Tried over 3 days.
Tried reinstalling image loads of times and reattaching to RPi.
Tried leaving on overnight.
Nothing. Still gets caught.
Have no clue what to do next............. probably an utter easy fix but as I say, I am a noob. Be kind and save my escalating frustration!!!!!

Hi all, new here so not sure where to post this question. I really like the simplicity and looks of tile cards. Icon, description and value. That’s it. However when value is a statistic, say monthly energy usage, I need to use the Statistic card. And that one is pretty bulky. It has a lot of padding and wastes a bit too much space imho. Also the icon isn’t on the left, but on the right. Is there any way to change the statistic card so that it looks as clean as a tile card?

hi all - I have a very basic question (for now :P). I am about to finish renovating my flat and I'll want to dive into home automation. Privacy is important to me and I really want to reduce the number of apps I have to install on my phone and of devices that phone home.
How do I check for a device's compatibility with Home Assistant? I tried running google searches but I find very old posts or github issues. Is there a list of sorts?
I'm having some connected BTicino MatixGo components installed and I am thinking about purchasing their thermostat (Smarther2) but I can't figure out what level of support I can expect in home assistant.

After setting up Home Assistant Green and initially connecting to it via http://homeassistant.local:8123 I do not see a list of all of the existing devices (bulbs, roku, security, sensors, etc. that i already have up and connected to my existing home LAN. these devices are from aidot, GE, govee, etc. but when attempting to add device or integration and selecting govee for example, it is unable to detect anything. i think it is because it does not see my LAN but I do not see / understand how to add that. please help

Hey everyone,
I have a problem with my setup after an update. Im running HAOS on a Pi3B+. It was running fine for years by now, I installed the Updates for Firmware and Software infrequently but after an update lst week the System ist not reachable anymore.

Well If I check in the IP address I can access it sometimes but not for long. Via app its Not reachable and any switches do not trigger a response.

I plugged it into a Display today, and it is booting but will reboot every minute, when Not connected to the network i have a short time Access to the Shell before it also reboots. before it tells me Something about: Failed to change fw-clk-arm frequency: -110

Any Idea what to do to recover it? If not possible maybe at least the configurations?

Hello, I recently saw the post regarding deprecated installation methods. Now I installed HAOS on a vm by using an "unsupported" method, because my vm supervisor is not siutable for the correct vm installation approach, by uploading a backup from the old HA supervisor system i had previously installed. By checking the information regarding the system I see that it is recognizing the installation as unsupported because of "virtualization_image", will that mean that my system will not be supported in the furure updates or will it be fine? And what if I kept the old HA supervisor running, will that stop receiving future updates? Thanks in advance for any answer, I hope I'm writing this in the right thread.

I experienced an odd behaviour today in connection to ESPHome. Accidentely I removed one device via the HA integegration page from ESPHome and readded it after it was newly detected. So far so good. I detected that all the entities were renamed from e.g. binary_sensor.l2_bathroom01a_reed_01 to binary_sensor.l2bathroom01a_l2_bathroom01a_reed_01 . I did not change nor recompile the YAML between the remove/readd.
Has anyone an idea how it came?

HEY, I am a complete noob. First time startign and fail at first task - cant even manage to create the boot drive. Have an old intel Nuc 7th gen that would be a good base for HA. Download the image for HASSOS, try to install it with Balena Etcher on a new USB stick 64gb, then redo the same on another computer, then try with Rufus and always the same issue. Try the same with an SD card - gets stuck when finishing.. any idea why..

I am at my witts end trying to get home assistant os installed on an old laptop I had laying around. have to have installed the image ~30 times following directions exactly on the tutorial. Have combed through bios to make sure everything is right. every time i boot the image i just get taken to a console showing all the hardware connections. Hey yall. I'm in an apartment for a only a few months so I don't want to set up anything crazy, but I have a spare smart outlet that I want to put on an outlet in the apartment that's connected to a physical light switch to let me sense the physical switch and let me use it to trigger smart lighting events. Right now, I have an automation to sense when the smart outlet is available and unavailable, and it works, but it takes up to 2 minutes or so for HA to sense the outlet has gone offline. Is there a way to increase the polling rate of that or something so I can more quickly sense when the outlet has gone offline? I flashed it with a version of esphome and theyve been working great other than that lol. I assume this isn't that hard but I'm not very experienced in actually programming anything within HA, only using the UI interface for the most part.

TLDR How do I more quickly sense when a smart device has gone offline? In a few seconds rather than a few minutes ideally, to use as an automation trigger.

In windows, I want to open a .tar.gz backup made with HAS so that I can pull out some automations I no longer have. How can I do this? When I try winrar/7z/peazip it won't open homeassistant.tar.gz inside of my backup. I have encryption on my backups, but when I try to pass the hyphenated backup key to peazip it doesn't show my data.

edit: cool, looks like it's not possible. once again HAS goofs up with default settings and poops on the end user without any warning, in this case warning of what might happen if they don't disable backup encryption.

Hi, I'm new to this channel, but I hope this is a good starting point. I am currently struggeling with template blueprints for sensors. My problem is pretty simple I have some modbus sensors via TCP and they are a bit unreliable so they sometimes report Unavailable/Unknown.
So I thought simple do a blueprint where you copy over "everything" and for the state just repeat the last value if I get a NaN.

I had a lot of issues I tried to template the unit_of_measurement by using unit_of_measurement: "{{ state_attr(source, 'unit_of_measurement') }}" but it looks like unit_of_measurement ist not templateable. Is there a documentation on what I can use templates for and what I have to do "manually" I had the same problem with unique_id that I just wanted to derive from the original id with a new prefix. And I cant find the documentation what this blueprint templates can do and what not.

Hello, new to HA discord. Don't know where to ask this? I am an Indigo user since version 1 although I never got on the subscription bandwagon until this week. Had to replace hardware and just upgraded, then cancelled. Come to find out Indigo still requires an active admin login to run. For various reasons I find this unacceptable. Can HA will run on new Mac Mini without having an admin login active? I am using Insteon devices and do not have any other special needs outside of scenes and time based triggers.

I wanted to report a minor bug I just saw. There was a media server update and the date format showed up in the Day-Month-Year format instead of the format I have specified in my configureation of month-day-year. And didnʻt know what channel to report this in if it was part of Core or something else like UI (though the description of the UI channel says its for back end report UI in the UI channel...this is on GitHub).

First time posting here - I'm at my wits' end. I have a Raspberry Pi running HomeAssistant for years.... It's up and running, as my Zigbee devices are all working as expected. However, I can't connect - it does not appear on the list of connected items on my router so I can't connect via Ip address and homeassistant,local:8123 doesn't connect (I'm not sure that it ever did) My android HA app can't find the server and neither can the iPad HA app.
I don't really want to start over (I do have backups taken the last time I did so) I just want to be able to connect as I'm keen to add an integration for my car!

Hello! I messed up and locked myself out of my Home Assistant UI after I added a new line to the configuration file. I was able to get as far as to opening up the file in the VM using the command "vi configuration.yml" at this point I'm not sure how to remove the line since all that shows up are a bunch of ~ along the left side of the screen and the bottom line says "- configuration.yml 1/1 100%." I hadn't set up any remote tools yet so all I know I have is the VM's CLI. Any help is appreciated!

it depends exactly what you are trying to do but sounds like you are wanting to push into HA which probably puts it more into a dev question. if you get the dev roll from the channels and roles section you will be able to see the dev support channel. #1257019582112334014
but jsut as a side thought, have you considered using MQTT?
if your looking at just pulling data then you could use the rest/scape integrations and that would belong in #1284966582375813201

You are currently using 'SD64G-0xecf78f73' as data disk. Moving the data disk will reboot your device and it's estimated to take 10 minutes. Your Home Assistant installation will not be accessible during this period. Do not disconnect the power during the move!

Just wondering, will swapping this wipe the drive that I'm going to use as my new data disk? And what is stored on the data disk?

Not sure if this would be a hardware or configuration question, I assume configuration but I'm a newbie.

Hey, i'm new to home assistant, trying to set it up on my old rpi 3b+. The first step is fine, but when it ask me to create a user account as soon as I click on create user it seems to freeze... first error line is : task kswapd0:56 blocked for more than 122sec ; then : task usb-storage:80 blocked... Hey! I'm sure it is somewhere... I'm looking for a place where "Area + Device + Entity" naming was discussed. I'm wondering if there's any "HA official" guideline for naming the devices and entities. If there's none – I feel like there's a huge need for – especially with the new entity picker introduced recently.

I have to replace my window air conditioner. It’d be nice to control it via Home Assistant. Would #1284966353798697001 or #1284966582375813201 be better to ask folks for recommendations? (I’d rather it be 100% dumb than require the cloud — local control via WiFi is what I want if at all possible)

Is there an oop-like concept where I can attach additional calculated attributes to entities? for instance it would be useful to assign one or more thermometers to each room and have the room report the mean temperature from the thermometers assigned to the room.

Almost any time I do an update to HA now (R Pi 4) it fails to reconnect to the cloud so I have to connect locally and reboot the R Pi to connect back to Nabu Casa. Is this a known issue or is it a fault in my system? Everything other than the cloud connection seems to restart correctly after the updates.

Hi, my electricity went and since it has come back I can't find my HASS server. It's not showing up in my router. I've restarted router, on light with HASS Yellow is flashing and so is ethernet cable. Any ideas where I should look for help?

Not sure exactly where to start because this is a specific problem / suggestion / idk, I've been attempting to do external authentication for accounts for home assistant because that saves me the trouble of having family ask me to reset their passwords every time they forget (which unfortunately is a regular occurrence) and i thought it would be a cool project to do a central oauth for my self hosted platforms, unfortunately at this stage home assistant doesn't natively support external authorization so i am currently using nginx proxy + oauth2 proxy + keycloak + header authentication hacs component to achieve a somewhat working environment but it doesn't work for the companion app which makes sense but doesn't make it any less frustrating. if someone could point me to where this kind of thing belongs (besides the trash) i would appreciate it thx.

Hi, I am having an issue with my HAOS VM. It was running great for years now, but the drive it lived on filled to 100% and the VM crashed. This happened before and I was able to restore the .vbox file from .vbox-prev and launch the VM. I did that this time and the VM loads, but in console it waits for the Home Assistant CLI, then errors out saying the CLI didn't start and goes into emergency console. I've been trying to fix it but have been unsuccessful, any suggestions on how to bring it back online?
