I should have threaded this earlier but oh well.

#

I only modified the lower command.

wintry frigate
#

well look

rigid bear
#

This is a GX-212JC, right?

wintry frigate
#

Yes!

rigid bear
#

The CPU can tolerate up to 90!C. I think it's a little bit elevated but probably okay. A fan can't hurt though.

wintry frigate
#

Yeah especially with my Experia Box V10 laying underneath

rigid bear
#

I'd recommend at least 140mm so it can spin slow and silent while still moving "lots" of air.

wintry frigate
#

that thing also gets hot so might get a fan for that

#

While having to find a way out where I'd be putting that in the case it's the modem/router from my provider but I have one extra laying around that I tore apart

rigid bear
#

I guess 120mm is okay too but as big as you can get.

wintry frigate
#

Well there is one major factor to keep in mind

#

That is the thin client does not have a fan connector, I've read the T620 (plus) does.

rigid bear
#

You mentioned USB fans earlier. I'm sure there's 120mm/140mm ones.

wintry frigate
#

usb is 5v, right?

rigid bear
#

Or you can get a molex/SATA to fan adapter 😄

#

Yes. "normal" USB at least.

wintry frigate
rigid bear
#

Not that kind of adapter.

wintry frigate
#

I know but there is one slight issue

rigid bear
wintry frigate
#

the T520 has M.2 Sata 😄

rigid bear
wintry frigate
#

yeah I was looking for a Noctua

#

the NF-F12 5V comes with fan to usb.

rigid bear
#

You might want to buy one of their Low-Noise Adaptors too.

#

They state 1500 RPM.

wintry frigate
rigid bear
#

My 140mm case fans become noticeable at 450 RPM or so.

wintry frigate
#

what do you recommend?

#

The AliExpress or Noctua

rigid bear
#

I like that the speed is integrated in the aliexpress one but the noctua is better quality.
For this kind of thing I'd probably go cheap. Depends if I'm near it.

wintry frigate
#

Well my specific thin client and router is in the living room behind a closet where also the Wii sits

#

Noctua is great, might not be RGB and gaming style for some but I prefer functionality.

wintry frigate
#

silent cooling with fan is useful

rigid bear
#

The noctua seems to be pressure optimized rather than airflow. Whether it matters here 🤷

wintry frigate
#

yeah you mean PWM?

rigid bear
#

No.

#

That's just how it's controlled. Impeller design.

wintry frigate
rigid bear
#

I'm not an expert in this.

wintry frigate
#

Me neither 😀

#

Yeah I think we should go cheap on this one, don't ya think?

rigid bear
#

Well it's cheap enough that it doesn't really hurt, no?

wintry frigate
#

You are absolutely right. It was €18

#

Now only 1/3 of the price.

#

Let me read the reviews though absolutely important.

#

All good but that doesn't really say anything, worth trying though if it can at least live 5 years.

#

Well I learned something today! Good night! Don't know where you live but it's 01:00 here!

rigid bear
#

Same.
