#hi all! I have an issue with the Aqara

I can see Home Assistant SkyConnect as the OTBR Router

#

I'm a little confused lol

#

I have the following addons running.
Matter Server
Silicon Labs Multi protocol

I also have Open Thread Border Router Integration

regal otter
#

Are you using iPhone?

pseudo bane
#

initially yes

#

then i tried with android

#

it complained that i don't have a compatible thread device

#

I'm going to try to do it again

#

so i deleted everything

#

reinstalled teh multi protocol addon

#

then let it create a new network

#

then on my android phone i went to sync the thread cerentials

regal otter
#

iPhone won’t work at all

#

Android will only work once

#

Then you’ll need to delete google play (and reset google pay in the process) and then instslll it again. Otherwise it can get stuck to the old thread credentials.

#

If Android can’t see your OTBR then it’s probably an IPv6 networking issue between your phone and whatever is running HAOS

#

No vlans?

pseudo bane
#

No but different subnets

#

i have an IoT Subnet and SSID on 2.4Ghz wifi specifically for all iot devices

#

with access to hassio

#

IPV6 is disabled

#

Is there a guide to remove the google play stuff

#

Now i am getting an cannot connect to device error

regal otter
#

What do you mean different subnets

#

your phone, HA and TBR all need to be on the same subnet

#

In your case your TBR and Ha are because you are using the addon, but phone needs to be as well

pseudo bane
#

I see.

#

I have 2, with internet subnet routing enabled to only hassio

#

I just switched to a different wifi

#

That’s on the same subnet

#

These won’t be using wifi though right?

#

They’ll go through sky connect

regal otter
#

Your border router announces routes to whatever network HA is connected to

#

Then any device on the same subnet as HA can ping the devices on thread

pseudo bane
#

I see

#

Well it’s stuck on checking network connectivity

regal otter
#

Is that different to before?

pseudo bane
#

On the android it would normally fail before this.

#

I think it was because I had the open border router add on and integration installed

#

Removed them

#

Then I also switched to a wifi that is running legacy wpa2 and

#

On the default subnet

regal otter
#

You will need both of those, to have synced your credentials into Android, and to have phone on same subnet.

pseudo bane
#

Both? Could you clarify?

regal otter
#

The integration and addon you removed

#

If you import your creds and it says it did something, try to import them again. If it still says it did something you have the android bug I mentioned where you need to nuke google play

pseudo bane
#

I’m using the multi protocol afrin

#

*addon

regal otter
#

I can’t help with that

#

Oh yeah, you need the integration then

#

Multiprotocoll addon and otbr integration

pseudo bane
#

OTBR integration or thread integration?

regal otter
#

Otbr and thread

pseudo bane
#

Okay yes I have that

#

Let me try the stuff you mentioned with credentials

regal otter
#

Multiprotocol is still OTBR

pseudo bane
#

Yes

regal otter
#

So same integration for both

pseudo bane
#

yep gotcha

#

Let me try nuking the creds

pseudo bane
#

that did not help

#

I am trying messing around with my router. Just enabled IPv6 and SLAC

uncut nacelle
#

for everything (HA box, phone etc)

pseudo bane
#

it was completely disabled on my unifi

#

it is working now

#

i had ro mess around with creds and integrations a bit more

uncut nacelle
#

matter requires local link 😛

#

and also unifi can be a bit jank

pseudo bane
pseudo bane
uncut nacelle
pseudo bane
#

yes

#

well

#

theres 3

#

but fe80 is one of them

uncut nacelle
#

yep, nice

I did many things until it finally worked, so I’m not sure what isn’t needed. But I had to go to Network -> Settings -> Internet, selected my WAN, and then set IPv6 to DHCPv6. It was disabled previously. After a few minutes I was assigned an IPv6 address. I didn’t think this would be required since communication should be local, but by doing that I was able to setup the IPv6 Interface Type under my IoT network to “Prefix Delegation”

#

And at about that time I gave up and switched HA to use the IoT VLAN, and things starting working.

#

I was able to import the credentials for my Apple Thread network, allowing me to merge SkyConnect into it, so now they’re both on the same network.

regal otter
#

Well done for figuring that out

#

That’s basically all expected and needed

#

I can try and explain why if there are any bits that have got you scratching your head

burnt geyser
#

Don’t know what you don’t know… I expected everything to just magically work and was disappointed when issues came up after spending $1k on matter-capable devices 😅 I’ve got most things added though, so progress.

#

Still happy to have stuff that doesn’t require the internet to use.

regal otter
#

It’s meant to on an average home - think they expect IoT VLANs to be an edge case

#

And people wanting to merge thread networks completely blind sided them

burnt geyser
#

I’ve got enough Thread-capable Apple devices I probably didn’t need SkyConnect, but as many Apple things as I’ve got, I like to not be locked in.

#

Such is life. Just glad it’s all working so far.
