Hi @fading cove I understand your color principle of primary and accent colors.
In case of the map I'd say the colors can be used to visually distinguish the Zones besides their names.
On the one hand, on the map and on the other hand on history graphs. I noticed the problem with the same accent color in the graphs first, on the other hand a bar chart is not the most suitable pattern for location history information.

Beyond the location based automations, I think the map feature is a great alternative to G/Apple-maps to share locations among family/friends.

Are there any future objectives you havefor the map view? Right now its more like a setup screen, you dont have any "movement paths" (or do you?). So the usage frequency might be quite low and the effort isnt worth it.

That makes sense. Coloring zones would be helpful especially when zones are adjacent or are overlapping each other. Some sort of four color theorem can be applied here by default (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_color_theorem), and allowing users to pick custom colors for zones would be nice too.

#

We do have "movement paths", as in displaying the history of the locations of any entity if available

#

The Map view has been neglected for quite a long time, partially because there aren't a lot of use cases. The most major use case would be to share locations amongst family members, which can be a good replacement for Life360.

#

I'd love to see if we can find more use cases for the Map view, if anyone would like to do some research and ideation on it πŸ˜„

Today I thought that it could be awesome to see other Netatmo Weather Stations on the map and get notifications if some near stations detect rain, for example.

#

Also, it could be a good idea to be able to get a screenshot of the map for some automations.

#

In both cases there's a lot of dev involved. In the first one it is necessary to get more information from the API.

The map in HA is way underutilized

Right now this is my map: https://imgur.com/a/dVxC6jF I have to edit some sensors, but it would be awesome if I could see more data here, even have a filter the data in groups I define.

Feel free to make the map markers look better too 😁

sorry for the later answer. didnt saw it in Discord πŸ™‚
How do you usually do research for features? Are there things like "feature" surveys or even better a collection of usecases and then you could link the insights, requests and user research activities to it.
This would help to gather input from users, structure it and inform decisions with users perspective. I guess threads in Discord are only temporary communication

Usecases:

  • Share Loction with family/house community
  • Find devices on the map (POIs, bluetooth trackers, weather stations, etc)
  • check location history of entities (departure, arrival, frequency) to tweak automations
Scenarios in which the UC happen:
  • daily business (commute, school,...)
  • vacation
  • flat sharing
  • office/work
    User/Groups:
  • Home Admins (who build the HA things)
  • Occupants (who consume / provide information)
-- more specific: parents, children, pets
