I'm not a big HA expert. i installed all the updates and restarted, but in my integration, there's a "failed to connect to matter server." .. I'm on 2024.2.1 and installed Matter 5.1.2

I’m afraid you need to remove the Ha integration for Matter and then readd it

So this worked for you? When you remove the Matter HA integration, the Matter server stays installed or did you have to re-pair all your devices?

I only have one device, but it was there instantly and my automation worked fine as well.

Removing matter integration doesn't remove the addon

I have the same issue. Always something with Matter. Removing the integration warns with this, which is sure nice: "Its devices and entities will be permanently deleted."
