Hi all, I am trying to add an eve energy via SkyConnect using #matter-archived over #thread-archived I have multiprotocol active, I see the matter, the thread, and the thread border router integration in HA. I can also see a _meshcorp._udp entry in a mDNS discovery app. In the thread integration, I can also see the SkyConnect as my preferred thread network. However, when trying to add a thread device, I always receive an error saying I have to add a border router to my network. Which I have, as described. I read a few threads about this but could not find a solution yet. Any suggestions?

So just to confirm, the only border router you have is a skyconnect?

Also you got an android or apple phone?

Correct, SkyConnect is the only border router in my network and I am using an iPhone 14 with latest iOS and HA App for commissioning.

I can see a few of the following errors in the #matter-archived add-on logs:

core-matter-server chip.DL[126] ERROR MDNS failed to join multicast group on veth46c87ad for address type IPv4: src/inet/UDPEndPointImplSockets.cpp:777: Inet Error 0x00000110: Address not found

This combination is unfortunately not supported yet 😢 The code to import the Thread credentials to your iPhone is not there yet. But we are working on it, it should be ready soon!

Oh, really? That is an interesting twist 😆 I was expecting a lot after reading the documentation and some community discussions but did not realize this is actually not supposed to work (yet). So only solution today is to have an additional border router like an Apple HomePod?

yep, a homepod mini is no doubt the cheapest and most reliable way to get started. and you can pick them up pretty cheap 2nd hand

Wow, I was reading and researching for hours and now I read on https://www.home-assistant.io/skyconnect/ : “A future firmware update will bring Thread support; allowing SkyConnect to be used for Matter-over-Thread devices”
Thanks for the help @vivid onyx & @brittle dirge

Or Android phone 😅

Maybe just a final confirmation.
Today, I have two options:

  1. iPhone only: I will need an existing #thread-archived network (including an existing border router) and can then use the skyconnect to bring this existing thread network into HA.
  2. Android phone: I can use skyconnect as my only border router and create a new #thread-archived network without any other border router. Is this understanding correct?

Ok, that was easy. Adding it via Pixel phone works like a charm 👍

  1. I'd say mostly yes to this. To be a bit more specific: Currently, you need a Apple Thread border router (e.g. Apple TV 4K/HomePod 2nd Gen/mini) when you want to use your iPhone to commission Thread based Matter devices. At this point you don't even need to add SkyConnect, you can just reuse this border router to add Thread based Matter devices to Home Assistant directly (think of Thread just being a third party WiFi router....). But optionally, you can today add the SkyConnect to that Apple Thread network created by the Apple BRs.
  2. Correct!
