#It's probably the safer way (if getting

I have started mapping what actuator (in the electrical cabinet) does what (like, C1 -> turns on window lights in kitchen etc). And also what light switch controls what actuator. I have identified what the components in the electrical cabinet are, so I can add them to the ETS project. I guess I need to disassemble the light switches to figure out what brand/model they are. I assume every switch should have some kind of a "program" button?
Yes, but you can read that through ETS (although in a bit cryptic way). You can also trigger the programming button from ETS.
Start doing a line scan to find all devices and their IAs.
I installed the KNX router in my electrical cabinet, so it was not part of the setup when I moved in. Will not having the original project file be a problem when setting the router up? Or could I give it an individual address that is unlikely to be taken (15.15.254 or something?)
It shouldn't be a problem. Just use a free one. But it should be on the proper line - so 1.1.0 or 1.0.0 probably.
Do you have any line couplers in your installation?
Hm, no, there are no line couplers
I shouldn’t be able to do a line scan before the router is properly set up, right?
Maybe. But on 1 line it shouldn't matter.
If you didn't have had couplers or routers before x.y.0 is a free address anyway. It's reserved for those.
So, perhaps the correct way to do this would be to start an empty project and only add the router and set it up as 1.1.0 or so, then do the line scan... hmm
1.0.0 would be better, but yes.
I managed to get the router connected. It seems to want to default to 15.15.0. The line scan takes a minute, but returns nothing 😦
I think the system was initially configured using "Hager KNX easy". Perhaps they aren't using 1.x.y? hmm
Ah, using the bus monitor while flicking switches I found that it seems to be using 0.2.x
Actually, since they're all on 0.2.x, it should be fairly safe to add the router on eg 1.0.0 and then just pull one device at a time from 0.2.x to 1.0.x?
Shouldn't get any conflicts that way, right?
Right. The GAs can still conflict when you mix newly parametrized and old devices
Ah yes, I see
So, would one send out some kind of nuke command to make all devices forget all individual and group addresses and then add them back from scratch?
There is nothing like that. You'll do it one device at a time and be sure not to forget one 🙃
Oh... 🙂
I don't get it. I can get my routers Device Info, but for some reason I cannot "download" settings to it. When I try to download it asks me to press the programming button, which I do and the red light lights up.
But eventually it errors out "No device in programming mode after 5 min."
If I try to do it using the router's serial, it errors out with "The device with the serial number xyz could not be found."
When I added the router to my project I set its IA to 1.1.0. When I check the device info, the address is 15.15.0 which is the default for the router
If I right click the router, I can restart it
