#To be clear you don’t have to be a video

Id like to not have to use any app but HA , including the HA phone app to control the system respond to alerts, stream, have 2-way voice and run any any automations based on camera events including person detection, and, recognition if possible, all locally (except remote use via the phone app of course) and with very fast notification of persons and activation of a live feed. The use of the Coral AI processor is intriguing and I don't know if any OTS system supports that. I'm torn but don't want op go down the Frigate worm hole and want cameras that support the above and useful resolution and video quality doesn't need to be UHD quality but don't want grainy herky-jerky streaming, and with OTA firmware updates. I'm coming from using Ring for 5 years tired of paying ring, tired of cloud dependency, and tires of Ring latency, freezes, etc.
I only need a doorbell, one fixed outdoor looking at back of house/deck/back door and one outdoor PTZ over garage. My house is rectangle with no windows on ground floor on the side , So watching the front and back is all that's required. All cams need to support multiple user definable detection zone so complex polygons can be defined.
I use the reolink doorbell in frigate, not sure what type of things like that reolink supports but frigate does support custom polygon zones
I'd like time of day specific detection zones. So I can watch a larger area at night when don't expect any kids coming in the yard to fetch an errant ball and I don't want stray dogs waking me up.
POE or Wifi reolink door bell?
that's a bit more complicated, it would be easy to have separate zones notify you based on the time of day, but saving events (snapshot & recordings) doesn't support that in frigate
I have no idea if reolink has any ability to control that for notifications in HA
I use the WiFi reolink doorbell
Reolink cameras are okay with frigate under the following circumstances:
- The reolink cam is NOT high resolution (must be less than 8MP)
- You use the recommended reolink config in the docs https://docs.frigate.video/configuration/camera_specific#reolink-cameras
yes I record 7 days 24/7 and then keep 30 days worth of events recording + snapshots
I'm going to start with a Reolink doorbell to get my feet wet with Frigate using an old NUC I have laying around It's a celeron but should be ok for one cam. What flavor of Unix does Frigate prefer?
The videos I watched of the reolink doorbell look good enough its 2k+ (whatever+ means) 5MP
Yeah, I've liked it, has already lasted longer than the amcrest ad410 did for me
I had to RMA that 3 times
did your AD410 battery explode ?
Does the reolink have battery?
The Celeron is a puny 847 1.1 GHz lol
I'm not very well versed in linux. does Debian install as easy as Ubuntu?
the first one just stopped responding, it was always pretty hot. The second one had the issue where the camera lense was not mounted correctly so it was out of focus in half of the image
Neither of these doorbells have batteries, just capacitors
I'm not sure that could handle 1 camera, at least definitely not with object detection
I guess ill have too pop for a mini PC ant recommendations for an ultimately 4 camera system and ill need a POE managed switch
That NUC is ten years old!!
loaded with Windows XP LOL!
Look like i'm going down the Frigate wormhole
The docs have some recommendations
Can't find a recommendation for a POE switch. Anything special or is a TPLink TL-SG108PE good enough?
probably good enough
Is 18W/port ok?
most cameras I have seen draw a MAX of 12W
