#Hello. I am new to the world of HA. I

Personally I recommend renaming them as you add them

@quasi frigate thank you. That was the only solution I could think of too. I tried the "identify" function and that didn't seem to help. I ordered a USB Sonoff Gateway hoping it would help me get a bit more control. I was trying to figure out how to map out my mesh and got stuck. I wasn't sure if the M2 supports that or not

The problem with the mesh map is that it doesn't really tell you where things are, just how they're connected

That would be helpful to know. My property has a bunch of "cabins" spread out. I connect them to the hub in the main building and the bring them out to the room

Moving things after you pair them is a great way of stopping them working

uncut crane

Oh I didn't know that. How will I know if I'm out of range? Trial and error?

quasi frigate

Pair everything in place

#

If it doesn't work then it's out of range

hmm ok. I will give that a try. I was going to set up some Hue bulbs in the outside lights as repeaters. I guess I need to do that first.

If I use the USB Sonoff Gateway that I ordered does that mean I need to set everything up through that instead of the M2?

Yes

#

A #zigbee-archived mesh (and that channel has great pinned messages to help you) can have only one coordinator (the "brains")

Thank you I will read through it.

Is this Sonoff a better overall option than the M2?

quasi frigate
#

Well, not necessarily, but ZHA is a better choice than some crappy manufacturer hub

#

(just don't buy the CC2652 Sonoff-P stick)

Oh I see in your tips what you just told me about the pairing. The USB extension cable is a nice one. I will order one just in case

quasi frigate
#

You really want one - watch the video pinned over there to see why

uncut crane

Will do.

Can you think of any other sensors or devices I should consider for my hotel that might be useful?

quasi frigate
#

Motion sensors?

#

Light level sensors?

#

With light level sensors and motion sensors you can automate common area lighting easily - off when bright enough, dim when dark and nobody's there, bright when dark and somebody's there

I was thinking about the Aqara Motion P1 but I was a bit worried that guests might be put off seeing one of those in the room. I felt guilty hiding the temp sensors in the room. Some guests may think its a listening device

#

Maybe one built in to the light switch would be a good idea
