#WOW!!! This sounds great. Do you still

I also do not have access to the beta firmware. They're preparing a website where users can signup to join for beta.
The disconnects are because the firmware is randomly crashing/rebooting, they're investigating that with their sillicon vendor. Next fw updatw ill also contain fixes in that regard so hopefully the real issue gets fixed and worst case scenario it is not yet fixed but due to the proactive reconnect it wont hurt as much.
Was there any info about missing basic features? Like the fact that you can't turn on lights with a specified color and brightness? Or are they still just focused on connectivity issues
Stability over new features is not their strength.
I really hope that they get it fixed together with you or maybe with us. 😉
I’m confident they will.
FWIW, I was able to get sign up my devices to get beta software from NL but it does not seem work I get regular stable releases.
There is a nanoleaf leaf website, just using my regular log in, I can individually select which device I want to expose to beta
Can you give us a link?
I am logged in, but don’t see any devices. My bulbs are paired to Apple Home and Home Assistant. They are not paired to the Nanoleaf app and even though I do, the cloud sync is deactivated. I think that’s why I don’t see any devices.
@granite blaze What do you think?
That makes sense, I enabled cloud on my devices
They are connected to both nanoleaf app and HA.
When I paired my bulbs the last time, I had the issue that I could pair the bulbs to either Apple Home and the Nanoleaf app or Apple Home and Home Assistant. It was not possible to pair them to all three. Cloud Sync was always off in my case. Hm… I have to think about it…. 🙃🤪
@granite blaze did the beta firmware ever show up?
The beta firmware with the new fix has not been released yet, as soon as it is, I'll post a message.
No never got any beta software just the normal releases
@dusk minnow @rugged jungle actually, there are 2 websites, the correct one for beta opt in is here, you'll see my devices:
https://ibb.co/FBy3jXh
But I'll wait for Marcel's announcement
Ok, my 2 Nanoleaf bulbs are now also part of the beta program. Thanks
Great I guess time will tell if this is the official way to get beta stuff or if Marcel gets different information.
Yes, let's wait and see. I'm curious to see what happens next.
Yeah, from what I know is that they're working on beta firmware which should hopefully fix it entirely or at least make the reconnect instant. So far I did not yet receive any more info so I guess they're still working on that beta firmware. Might as well end up in the beta program you just applied for, I really don't know.
Ah, just this morning got confirmation that you can indeed just sign up for the beta program and the beta firmware will arrive soon.

Ok, @granite blaze already gave us the right way to opt our devices into beta. Thanks @signal ridge
At the moment my devices are up-to-date with firmware version 3.5.41. Let’s wait and see. 😃
FYI: Apple is now also going to adjust the reconnect (max) interval because their 2 second current interval lead to issues (as was to be expected) in more dense networks and drained batteries: https://github.com/project-chip/connectedhomeip/pull/29852
So hopefully for Nanoleaf their beta firmware will arrive soon
Conclusion of all this is that adding Thread based devices to multiple fabrics at the same time comes at a costs of increased traffic. In case of many devices and a short interval this can even harm communication. So the Nanoleaf issue actually brought that underlying issue to attention. Another step closer to stability/maturity of matter and thread.
I think you also need to apply to the program; although it says open beta it was giving me invalid email/password errors on https://my.nanoleaf.me/login for me
yes, the instructions are here: https://helpdesk.nanoleaf.me/en-US/how-do-i-sign-up-for-beta-software-updates-for-my-nanoleaf-lights-341522
Anyone with a Nanoleaf account can opt-in to our public beta firmware programs through our forum. This allows your Nanoleaf lights to get access to new features and fixes available in the beta firmware updates, and helps us to gain valuable insights
-
Ensure you’ve created a Nanoleaf account and signed in on your mobile/desktop app(s)
-
In a browser, navigate to the forum and log in with your Nanoleaf account
I think that between 1 and 2 you must sign up here (https://nanoleaf.me/en-US/beta-program/) despite not listed in the instructions as I can't actually perform (2) despite having already done (1)
Interesting information. How many minutes will the Apple reconnect take in the future? Do you this?
That is valuable feedback, I've forwarded it to my NL contact so they can update that page with instructions.
They will change it to 2 minutes for now but plan/goal is to even go as high as 1 hour, its still an ongoing discussion.
It should not matter if device implementations are correct as they will actively report they're (back) online
a short interval causing traffic at each interval which is bad for various reasons
I I already did that in the past, but it was never confirmed by Nanoleaf. So I do not know, if my sign up worked. But it seems I didn’t have an issue with opt in of my devices.
Ok, perfects, thanks. That would be great.
Thanks, btw: you have a rather big network right ? Do you still have your device spairfed to HA and Apple at the same time ?
I have 35 Thread devices:
- 22 EVE Matter over Thread devices
- 2 Nanoleaf Matter over Thread devices
- 13 EVE HomeKit over Thread devices
Besides I have 2 AppleTV 4Ks latest Gen connected via Ethernet for Thread functionality. SkyConnect is not involved, because of all your and @eternal breach suggestions, that it’s still experimental and it doesn’t support TREL at the moment.
All devices are paired to Apple Home, all Matter over Thread devices are also paired to Home Assistant and the 2 Nanoleafs are also paired to the Nanoleaf app.
OK, you will really benefit of the changes then
Furthermore I have 4 Nanoleaf Essential bulbs lying around, waiting for a stable firmware… 😃
I wrote one the Nanoleaf representatives via Reddit, because support doesn’t react to me. The Reddit representative tries to solve my issue with my GU10 shipment. If you remember, I received a Nanoleaf 3 pack of stickers instead of a 3 pack of bulbs… 🙃
oh yeah, yikes, did that not yet got resolved ?
Well I'm not sure what the issue is, I just get invalid email or password errors trying to login to the nanoleaf forum site (but have no issue logging into the app). More fine nanoleaf software engineering no doubt
By the way… My Thread network is absolutely stable/reliable since month. With xOS 17 it got bit worse. I seldom saw devices going unresponsive. I had to remove them from current for 15 seconds to get them back alive. But since I own my second AppleTV, it’s absolutely stable, as it was before xOS 17. Only the Nanoleafs have still the disconnect/reconnect issue. I am happy to get the new firmware installed. Let’s hope that the new firmware fixes the issue.
So with what we know now, the thread network is overloaded with requests (by apple) so that explains why adding the second atv improved the situation as it increased bandwidth
Support doesn’t answer anymore. There was one direct answer with the information to give that ticket to shipping department, but never heard back. One week later I wrote them again, but still now answer. So I decided to write one of their representatives on Reddit and he answered, but he needs time until tomorrow.
Remember when we first had the short interval ? Your network was pretty unuseable
Yes, definitely true. But there was a lot of beta firmware involved. EVE has done a good job, like Apple and Home Assistant, too. Now there is hope for Nanoleaf. 😉
It will be alright, I'm sure.
Your word in God's name... 😅
@signal ridge so the problem was my nanoleaf password which had the ampersand character (&). While this was allowed for the nanoleaf account it was causing issues with the forum login. Once I updated my password without it, I was able to login
