#Android app crash when adding Matter device
1 messages ยท Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Hi, Android dev here. Can you check in the app: settings > companion app > show and share logs to see if it has a recent crash log?
yes let me get those
ahh wont all me to add it here
let me PM
you
if that is ok?
Does it have a 'recent crash' tab at the top of the screen?
Otherwise it's the full logs after the crash, those won't tell anything
I don't see a recent crash tab
OK so it's the normal logs, crash not recorded ๐ฆ
Which version of the app are you using?
Should be 2023.6.0-full
im in the latest beta...let me find that long version number
Latest beta is also fine
Can you check in system settings > Google > Devices & sharing if it lists 'Matter devices'?
That's fine, it just means that your device has all the required dependencies
Does the app crash immediately when you tap on add Matter device?
or does it take a few seconds?
yes, almost immediatlely....I can porvide a screenshot video if you like?
That would be great ๐
Got it
It might be crashing on the Thread syncing but hard to tell
Do you know how to install an apk file? The upcoming beta actually has a setting to only do Thread syncing, no Matter, so we can know for sure which is causing the issue
I've installed apk files before, yes, I think its simple....lets give it a try
You can download app-full-release.apk from https://github.com/home-assistant/android/releases/tag/2023.7.0
It will update your existing Home Assistant app
Once that is completed, there is a new option in Settings > Companion app > Troubleshooting > Sync Thread credentials
may I ask...im not on my home network, does this matter?
Err it should fail then, but not crash the app
I'll also test the flow when not connected to a home network ๐
great..updating....
ok updated and now will trying to add the matter device again
I'm sorry it does the same thing...maybe a restart?
Can you check the Thread option in the app settings?
^
you may have got something...soon as I pressed that, it crashed again
ok
another video?
ok
Thanks for the quick responses btw, much appreciated
just ping me if you need more testing...
my phone is Samsung A54 5G android 13
5.15.78 kernal
if you need that information
Can confirm a crash when not connected to the home network that isn't being handled properly
I need some time to fix this but if you try again at home it hopefully works without crashing
ok! this makes sense....I will confirm with you when I get home in about 5 hrs
Fix submitted
I'll be asleep by then but good to know for sure
