Fallback is the plan, but it's not clear yet exactly how OpenAI would control HA. My guess is we'd "teach" it to return intents in the prompt.

Yea I reckon you could have the initial prompt share the right format for responses. Eg a JSON object or similar

Besides JSON, another option would be to teach OpenAI to convert commands into something Assist can recognize, e.g. "illuminate lamp in den" to "turn on living room lamp"

My days of telephone go back to pulse dialing, You would turn a crank on the wall mount box to drive a magneto which would make bells ring on the party line 🙂 A One wire system.

So wht does that have to do with the Year of the Voice? Well even in those days the first thing spoken was "hello". With the GrandStreem all is heard is a ding if quick enough to get the phone to the ear 🙂 A nice enhancement would be to have a "hello" or a "how can I help" when it becomes off hook. It is a natural thing to either hear a hello or say a hello when first picking up a receiver to start the conversation. Just a thought 🙂

One additional supportive feature would be having the captured request sent to the assist dialog display. May be helpful to the user to see what HA thinks you said 🙂

We plan to allow people to customize the various tones 🙂
These are just audio files, so they could be anything (including "hello"). There is currently a tone when you pick up, one when you're done speaking, and another if an error occurs.

@ripe horizon Thank you for your prompt response. Fully aware of the current tones as am using the GrandStream interface. Hard part was finding my old phone to have HA listen. 🙂 Enjoyed the last video, very informative! Have a great day 🙂

A more organized person than me would certainly have a roadmap 😄
No progress yet on fallback intents, but you could use wildcards and sentence triggers to forward sentences starting with a specific word or phrase to OpenAI.
