The part about automation->mode not being valid makes it seem like you created automations under 0.113 and then downgraded

hallow raptor
#

@viscid orchid Which is correct.

#

Enter and leave zone wasn’t working properly after upgrading so I downgrading back to 0.112.4. I did however delete all my automations and start over in 0.112.4 after downgrading.

sly kindle
#

@hallow raptor you restarted HA after seeing the "OK" in the logs for duckdns?

hallow raptor
#

Yes with no success.

sly kindle
#

is it actually restarting?

#

you see it lose connection, etc?

viscid orchid
#

You still have automations that require mode, so it’s probably failing the check and not restarting

hallow raptor
#

No I don’t lose connection. Can I post my automations code?

viscid orchid
#

You said that you deleted all your automatons, but it’s clear from the log that you still have some and they rely on a feature from 0.113

#

Something is fishy

sly kindle
#

there's a config check that happens before a restart. If an error is found, it won't restart and you likely have a notification in the lower left corner

hallow raptor
#

I deleted all from the automations. I didn’t physically delete the coding automation.yaml

sly kindle
#

open the automations.yaml file

#

is it empty?

hallow raptor
#

No. All my automations are in that file.

sly kindle
#

so you did not delete all your automations, heh

hallow raptor
#

I did from the configuration>autiomation. Then I redid all the automations. Maybe something didn't delete properly.

#

Can I just delete all the coding in there and redo it?

#

I deleted and it's rebooting now.

sly kindle
#

you can cut everything out and paste it all into some other file if you want to recreate it later

hallow raptor
#

I'll just recreate them.

#

Couple things I wanted to change anyway. Awaiting reboot now.

It’s WORKING’

Does Home Assistant support mstream ?

If you can log in to your HA container with terminal, you could run ha info to see information about the architectures your device supports.

#

I'm sure it used to be displayed somewhere in the UI too but I can't remember where.

wheat shadow
#

Running "uname -m" returns "armv71". My question is, I thought armhf was a reference to armv7, and if so why are there two images

cunning wolf
#

Can't help you there, sorry

#

I'd probably go for the armv7, no idea why they made two.

wheat shadow
#

I'm wondering if one is meant to be armv6 for older rpi devices

cunning wolf
#

Perhaps, though officially nothing below a 3B+ is supported.

#

Well, not recommended, anyway.

wheat shadow
#

Eh, they have armv7 and armhf images for all the containers so I guess I must just not fully understand the difference. 😄 A google search indicates they're the same also. Would be interesting to find out what the difference is.

#

Running "dpkg --print-architecture" returns armhf. I guess armhf might simply be referring to anything running armv7+, while the armv7 image isn't compatible with armv71+?

I'm having a bit of a problem with autodiscovery and Mosquitto. Until now I have been using some tasmota devices, and simply by pointing those devices to Mosquitto and giving the correct credentials, they were automatically discovered by Mosquitto and added to Home Assistant.
Yesterday however, I installed P1 Monitor and also pointed that towards Mosquitto, but no new devices show up in Home Assistant. What could I be doing wrong? Note: I don't really know what is needed for autodiscovery, since it automatically worked for my Tasmota devices, and I'm also a layman in MQTT. So I might be overlooking very basic things.

I'm trying to use the hassioaddons traccar image for docker (https://hub.docker.com/r/hassioaddons/traccar-armhf), however I'm getting an error which crashes the container on startup.

"curl: (6) Could not resolve host: supervisor"
"ERROR: Something went wrong contacting the API"

I imagine it's because I don't have the supervisor installed (installed home assistant in container). Is it possible to use these images without supervisor?

formal pine
#

I'm not sure, as I don't use it, but in general, even if you install your own Home Assistant Core on, say, Ubuntu + Docker, you can still run everything via Supervisor and get it all to work. In general many add-ons expect the Supervisor REST to be present; for Ingress, for config.json, for probably lots of things that I'm not thinking of off the top of my head...

#

That will still let you run other things on your Host OS, but let the whole HomeAssistant ecosystem work mostly as expected

wheat shadow
#

Right, so might be worth moving away from the container to the supervisor approach. Do I remember hearing that supervisor is less of a focus for upgrades/improvements than other install methods?

#

This is what I was thinking about

#

Don't really want to move towards this unless it's likely to be supported in the long term

In regards to the motioneye add-on and the uploads of motion detection snapshots I finally got it to work with google drive!! Although whenever motioneye is restarted the link is revoked and have to create the key again. Is there a way around this? Ideally I'd still like to create a nodered flow to alert me to telegram of motioneye alerts but had no success yet.

#

@wheat shadow addons are for installs with a supervisor.

wheat shadow
#

Yeah, figured as much. Is it likely that you'll move away from supervisor support in future? I don't really want to set it up if it's unlikely to be around for long

cunning wolf
#

After the initial announcement that the supervised version would be deprecated, there was quite an outcry from people still using it. I believe the official decision is that there are no longer plans to deprecate - by extension, I'd take that to mean there's still going to be plenty of support for it.

sly kindle
#

@wheat shadow The HA OS install uses docker and the supervisor. They are what define the installation/project. Duplicating that install on an OS of your own choosing is where things start to go wonky. So that link above defines what is supported for such an install.

@sly kindle I am running my HA from a virtual box on windows. Does it count as a docker container?

acutally base_url is deprecated

that's not what you want to add, it's the ssl_ lines which point to your certificate files

That's what you should have

and yes uncomment it, but don't leave a space in front of http:

To answer your other question, if you are running a vm of HA OS, then it is using docker, yes.

hexed compass

  ssl_certificate: /ssl/fullchain.pem

@sly kindle Changed to that and now the server isn't coming up after a reset.

Has anyone got the NUT add-on to work on hassio?

onyx olive
#

Where is the influxdb database stored in HassIO? My addons folder is empty.

cunning wolf
#

Inside the add-on itself.

#

Add-ons are Docker containers. Think of them like a mini virtual machine.

onyx olive
#

So SSH-ing into HassIO wont find the addon?

cunning wolf
#

If you can SSH in to the host, you'll be able to see what Docker containers there are and how big they are.

#

Alternatively, install the Glances add-on.

#

Actually, I think Glances only gives a total addons size, not per addon. 😦

onyx olive
#

Since I have HassIO in an VM I would think I could get access to the host there. But If I hit enter in its terminal it just asks to log on to HA and not the host system.

cunning wolf
#

That's intentional. You're not supposed to go poking around the host or add-ons really.

onyx olive

Glances looked so cool Im gonna install it anyways

cunning wolf

If you use the community Terminal add-on, you can run docker images to see sizes.

onyx olive

Is the community one better than the offical one generally? I couldnt really find the differences.

cunning wolf

There are many differences, and they're all listed in the documentation.

#

The main reason I'm suggesting it is in that list too:

Has the option to access the Docker instance running on the host system.

🙂

cunning wolf

You can't do that with the official one. The official SSH only lets you get to the HA container.

For example: I'd like to store all real-time sensor data for about 30 days, all hourly averaged sensor data for a year and all daily data indefinitely. I have found some guides on how to average data for one property of one sensor, but I even have some problems trying to set that up, let alone automating that for all sensors. For example, I don't really know where to enter the commands.

I think its because one of my addons was ip banned; ip_bans.yaml:

#

Hey all! So I recently moved to a new place and have realized that I am now behind a CGNAT. Was hoping someone could help me choose which would be better suited for remote connections to various devices within my LAN.
Wireguard or Zerotier?
I have a local ubuntu server running HA and it's various add-ons (NginX, Node Red, ESPhome etc..) as well several other docker containers such as Plex/Radarr. Also have several other devices in my LAN I usually connect (couple RPI's and DIY devices).
Anyone familiar with the two?

boreal bane
#

you're just looking for remote connectivity or what?

deft lake
#

Yeah. And I don't have access to my ISP supplied router to do any port forwarding.

boreal bane
#

can your ISP router be put in bridge mode?

#

I'm assuming that you have your own router asking this

deft lake
#

I don't think so. Don't have access. I have my own router I would wish to use but I would still need to use theirs (it's an all-in-one gateway/router/wifi AP)

boreal bane
#

what ISP, what country,

deft lake
#

Gigamonster fiber in US

boreal bane
#

your ISP's SSL cert expired

deft lake
#

lol I know Gigamonster is shit now that I'm using them..

boreal bane
#

no, that's not what I was saying at all lol there was something stuck in my keyboard

deft lake
#

What are you asking?

boreal bane
#

I edited my comment I was trying to make

#

I would get on to their support and ask

#

because from a brief look at the website its saying using their router is optional

deft lake
#

I've tried calling to see if I could get access to the router. No go.

boreal bane
#

that's not what I said LOL

#

call support and ask if they can put it in bridge mode so you can use your own router and not theirs

deft lake
#

Yes. So I've called twice and asked to speak with a technician. Each time they said they'd have a tech call back. Never received a call..

#

Will be calling tomorrow AGAIN. I will ask that question.

boreal bane
#

it seems awful dumb to not allow port forwards

#

we have an ISP here that's CGNAT, they allow you access to the CPE

#

but it doesn't matter because packets will never get to you to be forwarded LMFAO

deft lake
#

I know. That's basic stuff to have for a end client to have. The person I talked to trying to get in contact with support was dumb AF

boreal bane

well when you get on the phone with support let them know their SSL cert for their website expired yesterday also

Looking for some help understanding MQTT. I have MQTT broker installed, but I don't see any way for me to add devices such as light switch and sensors. I want to be able to share the state state of devices with other system and HA instances.

#

Am I missing a component?

sly kindle
#

what are your mqtt clients running?

#

tasmota?

median agate
#

So I have no MQTT clients, this may be my missing component, my goal was to publish states of my zwave and zigbee devices with my other HA instance.

sly kindle
#

while you could use mqtt for that, you might check out @cunning wolf 's link there instead

#

There's zwave2mqtt for example, but that will only cover your zwave devices

#

I use that remote home assistant for sharing one HA instance's Z things with my main HA instance

median agate
#

@sly kindle what you have is exactly what I have been looking to accomplish, but have got some flak about this not been a get approach to creating a failover HA instance.

#

I have HA running in Synology and a linux box.

sly kindle
#

It's not for failover.

#

I use it because a pi with a z stick is something I can put physically in a better location in the house

#

My main HA is a VM running on a box in the basement, and the range is bad from down there

#

You should just try it for yourself. It's easy to undo.

median agate
#

the synology has a zigbee/zwave stick, the linux box is connected to my veraplus controller. The vera controller is down quite often which in turn prevents certain automations to fail.

sly kindle
#

Is the other zwave stick active?

median agate
#

my think was that by having the all devices shared between the 2 controllers they would be complementary to each other if one goes down for a while

#

yes

sly kindle
#

That could be why one is going down 🤷‍♂️

cunning wolf
#

Isn't the whole point of mesh networks that there's a single coordinator in charge?

sly kindle
#

and you have two

median agate
#

the z stick is not connected to the vera controller, but to the synology. The Vera controller have been going offline sporadically. yes Mono, i agree that one controller is all that should be needed, but what happens if that one goes down and does not reboot and you are away from home and can't address the issue.

#

It could be the military in me, but I like backup plans

#

😀

#

In order to mitigate the potential for a collision, could I write an automation that checks the status of the vera controller and if it fails to respond then the zstick would take over managing all devices on the network.

pine atlas
#

Hi there!

I am running the latest version of the esphome add-on (esphome-hassio-amd64:1.14.5) and I am having a dns resolution error.
esphome is unable to lookup the ip address of any esp8266 at home.

For example garage_door.iot.local exists, but if I open a shell in the esphome-dashboard docker container I cant resulv the name.
a ping to the esp8266 ip address returns succesfully.

TESTS
the docker host has the dns server configured correctly:
ha:~# cat /etc/docker/daemon.json { "dns": ["192.168.100.1"] <- that is my internal dns server }

To run a test I am doing:

`ha:~# docker run busybox nslookup garage_door.iot.local
Server: 192.168.100.1
Address: 192.168.100.1:53

Name: garage_door.iot.casa
Address: 172.16.16.2`
with that I know that a docker container is using the correct dns server.

Then if I do the nslookup from the esphome-dashboard container it fails to find the entry, its using this:

15ef4d2f-esphome:/# cat /etc/resolv.conf search local.hass.io nameserver 172.30.32.3

sour oar
#

@pine atlas other add-ons (when it's super, super important to get right) give you a chance to set dns servers in their configuration tab. see: Wireguard.

quickly looking through the ESPHome API, nothing stood out until I ran into this configuration section. i don't know if it would help to use this in your case, but it's a start, maybe?https://esphome.io/components/ethernet.html?highlight=dns

#

on the bright side, that local nameserver indicates that your HA add-ons usually can talk to each other just fine.

pine atlas
#

thanks for checking, that ehternet config is for microcontrollers managed by esphome, unfortunatelly is not a docker image configuration, but you are right, that 172.30.32.3 dns server is correct since it wires the rest of the infrastructure together. I am not sure where the problem is

#

that service must be dnsmasq running in the docker host right?

#

nope, there is no dnsmasq running there.. apparently is the systemd-resolve servicce

hi everyone, not sure if this is the proper channel to ask for some help regarding nginx rev proxy issues? I'm stuck, and can't see what I'm doing wrong. I have duckdns & nginx ssl proxy addons installed and configured. somethingsomething.duckdns.org properly points to HA on port 8123, but now I'm trying to add a folder redirect to my bitwarden service, but whatever I try, it keeps failing.

@willow vortex Are you running home assistant from usb?

willow vortex

torn seal
#

I usually restart or shutdown before, because often it doesn't start again if power gets removed without shutting it down before

I have it connected to battery backup, but I have to guess the updates have made it boot better, because I sometimes accidentally remove power from it

willow vortex

@amber nymph add-ons are services you add to your system from the add-on store. These are services which run in containers alongside Home Assistant which is also running in a container. There is no reddit add-on that I know of. You might be referring to #integrations-archived . I changed router and from sd to ssd and find wireguard not working. Duckdns has correct ip address and i have configured
WG with the sub domain inserted to example config. I also updated phone app and new QR code as well as reinstallin WG in HA and repeating these steps In unifi I added port fwd from anywhere/51820 to HA at port 51820 and enabled this rule it looked like the FW rule was added automagically in the Phone i see handshake failed how can i trouble shoot this further or plz suggest step to try

I enabled parental control in AdGuard and tried going to adult content. AdGuard says it blocked the page but Chrome opened it without issues. Why?

cunning wolf
#

Did you visit that page recently before it was blocked?

onyx olive
#

Nah

cunning wolf
#

Likely story 😉

onyx olive
#

haha

cunning wolf
#

AdGuard prevents DNS requests resolving if they're blacklisted. Your computer keeps a cache of recent results so it doesn't have to request them every time.

#

It's still in your computer's cache. Clear that and try again.

onyx olive
#

Ok. Thanks. I might have tried the domain immediately after enabling parental control.

#

Cause now I googled sex and found a domain that made adguard pop up and say parental control 🙂

Hi everyone. This morning (early) my system crashed. I have been running mariadb as my recorder for some time ... but now when the system fires up mariadb 'bonks'. This is the error I get:

#

020-08-08 12:15:47 0 [Note] InnoDB: If the mysqld execution user is authorized, page cleaner thread priority can be changed. See the man page of setpriority().
2020-08-08 12:15:47 0 [ERROR] InnoDB: Missing MLOG_CHECKPOINT at 3066289257 between the checkpoint 3066289257 and the end 3066289152.

#

and then it shuts down.

#

Looking for ideas on how to solve.

cunning wolf
#

The DB may be corrupt. I'd back up the config, remove the add-on, reinstall the add-on, plug your config back in.

#

The DB is only temporary anyway, so it shouldn't be any great loss.

obtuse crow
#

@cunning wolf - what do you mean - back up your config?

#

the config in mariadb supervisor?

cunning wolf
#

I mean go to the config tab of said add-on, copy all the text you see and keep it for later.

#

perfect .. just wanted to confirm 😉

I am running HA via docker ontop of an ubuntu server. Where does HA and subsequent addons store all the data?

hmmmm. That bonked all my data 😦

I did say the DB is temporary. Whatever was in there would be purged in X days anyway.

Anyone available to provide some ideas/pointers for newbie MQTT setup? I've got addon set up, a client device configured with HA user data and the IP/port to broker, have configured HA MQTT for autodiscovery, have confirmed the device is on wifi (same network as HA)... but the device is still not getting an MQTT connection.

sly kindle
#

@raw pier what is the device?

#

is it running tasmota?

raw pier
#

@sly kindle It's a nodemcu

sly kindle
#

what does the configuration look like for this?

raw pier
#

I'm assuming that the IP for the MQTT server is the same as the HA (and then set port to 1883). Is that right?

sly kindle
#

yep

raw pier
#

And I'm assuming that any user set up in the HA user area can be used for the MQTT user that the device uses. Didn't do anything special to set that up.

boreal bane
#

yes but you don't need one user per device

sly kindle
#

well, I'm on my phone but I'm looking for where that supports discovery

boreal bane
#

you can have one MQTT user on all devices

#

and use clientid

#

@cunning wolf that was one of the first things I learned on this discord LOL

sly kindle
#

yes, any user credentials in HA can be used

raw pier
#

that makes sense. Still don't get why I can't get the device connectedd to mqtt

boreal bane
#

what do your MQTT addon logs say

sly kindle
#

if there is no discovery support on that device's side, you'd have to enter it manually

boreal bane
#

and does anything else connect to MQTT ?

raw pier
#

It says that 1883 is open for listening on ipv4 and 6. And that 1884 is open for listening.

#

Then it says New connection from 172.30.32.1 on port 1883. (have no idea what that is)

sly kindle
#

that's home assistant

#

most likely

raw pier
#

ahh

sly kindle
#

internal docker container ip address

raw pier
#

Also says: [13:26:19] INFO: No local user available

sly kindle
#

that's fine

#

does it say "found <your user>" anywhere?

#

oh I guess that would only show if the device connected. nm

raw pier
#

No. It says "found homeassistant on local database". But also says 1596918380: Warning: Mosquitto should not be run as root/administrator.

boreal bane
#

that's fine cj

#

it always says that

sly kindle
#

yeah

boreal bane
#

but if it found homeassistant it's connecting

raw pier
#

ok. it all SEEMS fine...but I can't figure out how to get the connection

boreal bane
#

to something

#

did you restart it since?

#

I know i've had to restart sometimes to get the MQTT addon to behave

sly kindle
#

did you add it in yaml?

raw pier
#

i've restarted the addon and the HA a few times during this

sly kindle
#

did you add the light using platform: mqtt I mean?

raw pier
#

@sly kindle I've got:
light:

  • platform: mqtt
    name: Lamp
sly kindle
#

and all the rest?

raw pier
#

Yes, all the stuff that was listed in the config from that github repo

#

I checked the config and it says is fine.

boreal bane
#

"fine" doesn't mean "will work"

raw pier
#

Clearly 🙂

sly kindle
#

you know you could put wled on this nodemcu and have an easier time 😄

raw pier
#

WLED?

sly kindle
#

No mqtt needed. Integration for wled just needs to be added

#

yeah you flash it with wled

cunning wolf
#

WLED = 🔥 🔥 🔥

#

The integration isn't perfect but it's so easy to work with and you have other options for more advanced usage.

sly kindle
raw pier
#

I'm using this as an excuse to learn about mqtt and it seems like it is really close to working...except for the connection 😉

#

WLED looks cool though.

cunning wolf
#

It's got a really easy setup too. It creates a captive access point you log in to and do all the settings via the UI.

#

If it breaks and can't connect to your network, you haven't bricked it... it'll revert to being a captive AP again.

patent copper
#

Using the Nginx Proxy Manager, how can I create an Access list that allows access from anywhere?

#

The only goal is to provide basic authentication in front of a service

cunning wolf
#

There's a section to create Access Lists in the addon's UI. Set up your usernames/passwords for basic auth and then make your first allow rule 'allow: all'.

#

Once you've created it, assign it to whichever proxy you want.

patent copper
#

I was so close!

#

It seems the Proxy neded to get the list set after the list was edited to update settings

#

Thanks!

slow heath
#

Anyone know the file where an update for an add-on gets triggered? Trying to override an addon to download an earlier version. (or if I delete and then install it again)

cunning wolf
#

I think your best option is to restore that addon (and nothing else) from an earlier snapshot.

#

The system isn't really designed for you to pick which versions to install.

slow heath
#

Yeah I don't have that. Didn't make one :/

cunning wolf
#

Today's lesson, take regular backups 😄

slow heath
#

Yeah, already doing for future for sure!

cunning wolf
#

I'm out of ideas... see what someone else suggests.

slow heath
#

Guess I just wanted to know where the code was that points to the URL to download the dockerfile. I can then just switch the dockerfile URL

#

Since the addons are docker containers, right?

cunning wolf
#

But that's all managed by Supervisor, so it's going to just update itself again. Like I said, see what someone else comes up wtih.

slow heath
#

Hmmm. When I go to supervisor I see updates sometimes. It asks for manual update of addons. Does yours update automatically/

cunning wolf
#

I don't mean that. I mean whatever list Supervisor maintains will be updated automatically.

slow heath
#

Yeah, that's fine. I need to edit an actual addon not remove it from installation

dense spadeBOT
#

404 Error for docker usually is a result of one of these things:

  • The image tag you are trying to use does not exist (if this is the case you will see the word 'manifest' in the error)

  • There is not enough space left on the device to download the new container.

cunning wolf
#

Could be that it doesn't exist. Could equally be that there's not enough space left 😉

steel mica
#

well I have more than enough, at least 100 gb free so it must be that it doesn't exist

cunning wolf
#

Maybe. If you're familiar with Docker, you could try setting up that image on another machine.

#

Just to see if it finds it.

steel mica

not really familiar but I can try

cunning wolf
steel mica
#

i've never been so lost I can't lie

cunning wolf
#

Looks like it's an ExpressJS app that just makes it easier to interact with the Google Assistant SDK. So technically, you could make those calls yourself... maybe not with out-of-the-box HA REST calls though.

steel mica
#

I know a bit but I guess not that much

#

I think I should just give up

#

what os should I run that on?

#

I usually never get this stuck but man, this is tough.

#

i want to be the most efficient

cunning wolf
#

Well it'd run on anything that can run NodeJS... but if you're not used to doing that stuff, there's a lot to learn. That's why people turn to add-ons - you just install them and have everything you need.

#

Try again later in case it's just something funky going on with the connection. You say you have enough space, so assume it's a 'normal' 404.

steel mica

I understand

I shall try another time

prisma portal
#

Hi guys is it possible to create or change the boot priority for the addons?

simple prawn
#

sorry, first post on discord and have spent half a day on this already - is anyone familiar with setting up BlueIris motion sensor with MQTT? I read the tutorial here (https://community.home-assistant.io/t/blue-iris-integration-tutorial/71863) and watched the video from TheHookUp's channel. The test ping from BlueIris works (it shows up in my MQTT logs), but I'm not familiar enough with MQTT to know if my settings in my configuration.yaml file is what's causing my issue. Motion is properly detected in BlueIris, but it does not show up in HA.

cunning wolf
#

If it's communicating via MQTT, your first task is to check whether all the messages are appearing on your MQTT broker.

simple prawn
#

I just ran a test ping using the BlueIris interface and this showed up in the Mosquitto broker logs, I think that means there's at least a connection?
1597001401: New client connected from 192.168.4.57 as BlueIris (p1, c1, k20, u'mqttuser').

#

My MQTT broker has no devices listed in the Integrations tab though, so I don't know if that's a separate or related issue and whether I have to add a device first

cunning wolf
#

Forget about HA integrations for now. Either use a standalone tool like MQTT Explorer to connect to your broker or tell HA to listen to all topics.

#

Do something that should have Iris send a message and see if that message appears.

#

I prefer MQTT Explorer over HA's method since it has a good UI.

simple prawn
#

ok let me watch a tutorial on how to use MQTT explorer and will come back - I guess I just don't really understand MQTT at all and am just following the instructions in the tutorial, so there's probably something my config file that's mislabeled

#

I downloaded MQTT explorer, logged on to my MQTT server, and the only thing that's there is a $SYS folder with a broker in it (and a ton of sub-"folders")

#

the subfolders have a ton of information in brackets like (24 topics, 468 messages, etc.)

viscid orchid
#

Don’t worry about all that

cunning wolf
#

When Iris does something, do you see a new message?

simple prawn
#

when I go to Edit MQTT server settings in Blue Iris and hit the "Test" button, a BlueIris folder shows up with (1 topic, 4 messages) with a sub-folder saying app = starting
when I go to my individual camera and hit the Lightning button (which is a test ping in the Blue Iris interface), a new sub-folder shows up called Cam1=On under BlueIris folder in MQTT explorer

#

so it seems like the messages are going through, but only when I hit the "test" buttons for the individual camera or the BlueIris program

cunning wolf
#

Then you've identified the first problem... you need to get BlueIris sending the right information 😉

#

Figure that out, then come back here to see how HA listens to those messages.

simple prawn
#

ok so here's an update - every time I trigger a motion, the total number of messages in BlueIris folder in MQTT explorer goes up (2 topics, X messages) - so it seems like motion IS sending a message to MQTT, I just don't know what that message is

#

my settings within BlueIris are as follows:
MQTT topic BlueIris/Cam1 Post/payload: on

#

those are the only two settings related to the motion trigger in terms of inputs

cunning wolf
#

You keep saying you don't know what's in the folders. They can be expanded...

simple prawn
#

right, sorry! ok so the history just keeps saying "on" "on" "on" every time motion is triggered 😄

#

so I think it is sending the post/payload part properly into my MQTT server!

#

so the connection is stable and I think we solved that part - which then the question is what I suspected - my configuration.yaml probably has something wrong

cunning wolf
simple prawn
#

ok, so is the discord rule to move the conversation into the integrations channel for the remainder?

cunning wolf
#

Yes please

#

You can summarise what you've done so far.

I have MI android tv box which is connected to home-assistant via suggested integrations, so everything works but the state of android tv changes sometimes and third-party apps don’t work.
For this, I have checked the internet and found a solution via addon in ha ie ADB so, I have installed everything and also done with configuration but the problem comes here
I cannot see the new entity in states 😦 don’t know why.
I have checked addon logs and also home assistant logs and restarted many times, everything is ok and they say connected but no entity
And by the way after addon installation, I removed previous media player integration so now even that is not coming I am struck here

how can my problem be solved, please help

Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.

When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:

  1. What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
  2. What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
  3. Is the problem uniform or erratic?
  4. What's the exact error message?
  5. When did it arise?
  6. What exactly don't you "get"?
  7. Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?

I have no idea how the bashio stuff works but it looks to me like the environment in the nginx container is not being populated properly because the SSL variables are all missing in the nginx.conf as well

cunning wolf
#

I also don't understand bash scripts 😄 If you're not bothered about which add-on you're using, the nginx proxy manager is decent.

torn vector
#

might as well just configure nginx myself then

jagged gale
#

@raven tinsel is it possible to use NGINX_PROXY addon to not port forward a port on my router for another addon(bitwarden) but rather to proxy_pass all the requests coming for https:// duckdnsdomain**/bitwarden** to the bitwarden container?

raven tinsel
#

With the core NGINX Proxy add-on, you have to provide config yourself.

#

with the NGinx Proxy Manager add-on, it supports that kinda of stuff

#

however, not all application support behind reversed proxied on a subpath

#

Bitwarden is one of those 🙂, so that will not work

#

However, you can of course, create a second duck dns domain, and handle that as a different vhost on the reverse proxy

slow heath
#

Hey @raven tinsel any chance of possibly rolling back the Portainer add-on until they push the --no-auth fix please? Don't have the older version backed up and see I'm not alone in just waiting for the fix...

jagged gale
#

However, you can of course, create a second duck dns domain, and handle that as a different vhost on the reverse proxy
@raven tinsel yeah you are right man 🙂 the location run was a total fail 😦 the only way for it to work is by registering another domain and that is sad a bit as I would like to keep things nice and easy

raven tinsel
#

@slow heath Fix should be available any moment...

#

@jagged gale Subdomains? They are unlimited active as wildcard with duckdns...

#

e.g., bitwarden.myducdnsthingy, nodered.myduckdnstingy

slow heath

Oh awesome, I just saw that the bug report post wasn't active so figured they forgot about it 😛

Is this where I would post if I have issues with portainer for hassio?

tepid flicker
#

not sure if this is the best place to ask, but i'm having an issue with MQTT. I'm currently trying to send some data via MQTT from a raspberrypi on my network to my Intel NUC running Home Assistant. I have mosquitto broker setup on the NUC and it works fine with Ring MQTT. I started seeing data (I made a sensor and verified it by manually listening to the topic). However, it only updated 37 times. It's supposed to update every 10 seconds, but it stopped after 37 times. I still see the connection being made every 10 seconds via the logs...any ideas?

1597100896: New client connected from 192.168.5.241 as mosqpub|1598-9f3d7255d4 (p2, c1, k60).
1597100896: Client mosqpub|1598-9f3d7255d4 disconnected.```
that pops up every 10 seconds
.241 is the RbPi
and I can't seem to find any errors around that time that would relate to it
cunning wolf
#

In all likelihood, it's the Pi that's disconnecting for some reason.

#

Better to investigate that end.

worldly cliff
#

Hey, does anyone know why portainer on hassio image for RPi4 doesn't seem to be letting me add a container or create one through the app templates? I'm running the 32 bit version. Let me know if any other info would be helpful

jagged gale
#

@jagged gale Subdomains? They are unlimited active as wildcard with duckdns...
@raven tinsel Hmm I didn't find how to do a subdomain to a subdomain, maybe I am missing something 🙂

#

Damn it does it under the hood. I am an Idiot... My intention was to do it by subdomains but for some reason I was thinking I should register it in duckdns
Ohh lordy ... the more we know 🙂 Thanks man @raven tinsel for your help, now I am happy with my config )))

is anyone aware of a calendar server as a addon for HA?

#

i currently have one running on my synology but it keeps the disks from sleeping

#

hence i had the idea to move it over to my NUC which is running HA

#

local access only would be enough

sly kindle
#

not aware of one

surreal crest
#

ok, thanks thats a pitty, would have been quite a cool function

#

hmmm would it actually work if i install the portainer.io addon and add another container running a caldav server?

#

not that i would at the moment know how this is beeing done exactly 🙂

patent copper
#

If running the glances addon, what would be the IP:PORT to use for the glances integration?

patent copper
#

I have tried the host IP and the docker addon hostname and the default port 61208.

#

When setting up the integration I just get Unable to connect to host.

potent lichen

hey, anyone got an idea why I get this when trying to add a new container via portainer? 2020/08/12 01:10:02 http error: Unable to proxy the request via the Docker socket (err=Object not found inside the database) (code=500)

@potent lichen It's an issue with the current Portainer release, waiting on an upstream fix

If you can downgrade via a snap it will work

Hey everyone! I get a 502: bad gateway when trying to access the InfluxDB ingress interface. Addon log is ending with:

[10:03:00] INFO: Kapacitor is waiting until InfluxDB is available...
[10:03:00] INFO: Chronograf is waiting until InfluxDB is available...
[10:03:00] INFO: Starting the InfluxDB...

No errors prior in the log

woeful holly

just wait a few minutes

patent copper
#

More than 10?

15 minutes now, still nothing... This is a complete new behaviour on my system...

stable torrent

I'm just wondering here, but could it have something to do with release 0.113.3?

#

I have also issues, but with the integrations Tado and Meteorologisk institutt (Met.no)

patent copper
#

This is likely addon specific and not connected to the HA release...

stable torrent
#

Ok, too bad

patent copper
#

What worries me is that are no errors in the log... It just seems like the addon is stalled...

woeful holly
#

yeah shouldn't take 10 mins

I have restarted the addon a couple of times... I am restarting the host now.... /pray/

@raven tinsel Any idea what this means? "WARNING (MainThread) [supervisor.snapshots.snapshot] Can't restore Add-on a0d7b954_unifi: maximum recursion depth exceeded in comparison"

I am trying to restore a snapshot for unifi addon and have modified my config.json-file.

raven tinsel

That is not supported sir

However, I have no idea

woven holly
#

Ah ok. Will try to solve it in some way then. Thank you!

patent copper

1 hour, and the InfluxDB i still not up, and there are no new errors in the log....?

potent lichen

@raven tinsel is there an option to fetch an older release from your addons? similar to how you can fetch different releases in HACS?

raven tinsel

Snapshot restore (or partially)

potent lichen
#

in the absence of snapshot

raven tinsel
#

I cannot frabricate snapshots for you

#

sorry

potent lichen
#

ok so there is no option to eg edit any repo information manually to take a different version in the branch? I got snapshots too many so the relevant one that would have helped has been purged already

potent lichen
#

@raven tinsel this is what I was looking for, I downloaded an older release, extracted, pushed the addon folder to addons on hass and then installed from there ...

which showed as dev ...

#

Hoping this question fits best here: Is there any add-ons that have very simple scheduling? I was hoping to create some one-off automations that call a simple service at a specific time (Ex: Turn lights on or turn AC to x)

#

I could create regular automations but I'd have to delete those after they are done

sudden orchid
rugged burrow
#

I actually use node-red for all my other automations but I feel like it has the same situation where the automations feel more permanent.

potent lichen
#

not sure I understand what you are trying to achieve here - so its literally just a one off? why not call the service directly?

#

or use things like sliders to adjust the setting

rugged burrow
#

It's a one off but based on time. So today at 3pm I want to do X

potent lichen
#

I use regular automations for that eg 8pm outside lights on - 6am off

rugged burrow
#

Yeah that's probably what I will end up using. Just wanted to check if there was another solution.

potent lichen
#

you can obviously enable/disable them when you dont want to run them

#

and use another automation, to reset the state to on for the automation so you dont forget to turn it back on

#

just some thoughts

rugged burrow
#

Yeah that could work

void steppe
#

hi all. is it possible to set up a debian with portainer? i use homeassistant os

slow heath
#

@potent lichen Any tutorial on pushing older addon version? I tried to do this due to Portainer bug. Not sure how quick this fix is coming. Issue 2 weeks old and blocking me from doing stuff :/

potent lichen
#

literally as I wrote it, download, extract, copy portainer folder to addons, go to supervisor refresh and it will show as a dev version

#

was easier than I expected

slow heath
#

Where do you extract it to? I guess I couldn't find the folder Portainer was actually installed. Tried searching for the dockerfile

potent lichen
#

you donwload it locally, extract it locally - then move the portainer folder via sftp/ftp/smb over to your homeassistant into the addon folder - before you need to remove portainer obviously

#

thats what I did anyway

slow heath
#

does that seem accurate?

#

or do i place those files to addons/local folder?

potent lichen
#

I used it as I was developing it .. to not interfere with the official package

viscid orchid
#

do you not have a backup that you can restore the old version from?

potent lichen
#

I did not already purged

viscid orchid
#

more for @slow heath

potent lichen
#

ohk

slow heath
#

Nope. That was the lesson learned before. But I find it weird there's no easy way of changing version number in some file for the addon to be pulled from

viscid orchid
#

it's not a great solution, but it's the "approved" one

slow heath
#

Especially if the addon is blocked upstream and cannot downgrade any other way

viscid orchid
#

some developers really, really don't want to support older versions

slow heath
#

I hear you, but it simply does not work right now for the past 2 weeks

viscid orchid
#

I sympathize with your plight

potent lichen
#

well you could just republish the 1.2.0 as 1.2.2 rollback and solve it for people without a snapshot if its broken, but thats just me probably

viscid orchid
#

you can make a local addon based on the previous docker tag?

#

I did that for one where the image was deleted

slow heath
#

How would I do that? stick the folder with dockerfile into the addons/local folder?

potent lichen
#

my solution works just fine for what I needed to do so I am fine

viscid orchid
#

lemme look at mine

potent lichen
#

thats what I did and then added to the addon shared directory, started it ...

slow heath
#

Yeah, I mean I don't know where to stick those files 🙂

potent lichen
#

addon on the smb share

viscid orchid
#

/addons for me

potent lichen
#

or when you connect via ftp its addons

#

thats what I wrote earlier

slow heath
#

root@DietPi:/usr/share/hassio/addons# dir
core data git local

#

so addons/local

#

or just addons/Portainer

viscid orchid
#

right. then reload, and I think it'll show up in the Addon Store under "Local add-ons"

slow heath
#

Gotcha. Worth a shot, thanks guys

viscid orchid
#

mine was a ridiculously simple addon (backup via scp) and just has Dockerfile, config.json, and run.sh

potent lichen
#

similar here 9 files and a few folders

#

its basically all the instructions for the compose and additional info

viscid orchid
#

I thought I was screwed when the remote image disappeared, so I'm glad the option exists

potent lichen
#

I thought there was more involved

viscid orchid
#

yeah, I don't want to talk about how many hours I think I spent looking for a harder solution

potent lichen
slow heath
#

Had to clear cache a few times for some reason, but local addons popped up immediately. My goodness why isnt this listed as a fix for now? Thank you @viscid orchid and @potent lichen

potent lichen
#

no worries glad that worked for you

clear mason

I'm not sure this is the right place, but I'm running into a spot of trouble with the DuckDNS/Let's Encrypt add-on. I've got everything working and the logs show certificates being pulled, but I'm not certain how to enable it. All the documentation I can find stops at this point. I have it enabled and it appears to be working, but I'm still able to connect unsecured on 8123 and cannot connect on 443.

snow oracle
#

how are you trying to connect over 443?

clear mason
#

both https://[IPADDRESS] and [IPADDRESS]:443

snow oracle
#

yeah... that'll work, but you won't be secured as certificate is validating your hostname, which is your DuckDNS host
by connecting via https://[IPADDRESS], you should be able to see what certificate is being offered (if you click on a little red icon to the left of your browser's address bar

clear mason
#

I'm not getting anything, though. The server isn't responding on 443.

snow oracle
#

also, you might have to open up port 443 in your router to allow external connectivity to your hass

clear mason
#

This is all going on on my local network. When I enter either of the lines above (https://..) in my browser, I get 'refused to connect'.

#

So it's not even listening on 443.

#

Usually, when I turn on Let's Encrypt on servers there is a button to force https on that machine. LE just gets the certificate.

sly kindle
#

@clear mason did you add the ssl_ lines under http: in configuration.yaml ?

clear mason
#

@snow oracle that's an older blog post that's been updated with the new stuff. Essentially, that's what I followed.

#

@sly kindle nope, that's exactly what I was looking for, thank you. Now to go figure out how to do that.

sly kindle
#

its just a matter of editing the file. if you have samba addon, or file editor addon, or you can use the ssh addon and nano

clear mason
#

I'm finishing up installing the file editor addon now.

snow oracle
#

that older post has a snippet of what to add

http:
  ssl_certificate: /ssl/fullchain.pem
  ssl_key: /ssl/privkey.pem
#

granted, i don't have this... i'm using my own domain with traefik as a reverse proxy

clear mason
#

doh! I'm reading so carefully I glossed over the inset code. Thank you for putting up with my silliness.

snow oracle
#

hope it works!

clear mason
#

Restarting the server now.

sly kindle
#

after adding those lines, you can only use https:// for local_ip:8123 or duckdns url

clear mason
#

Wild, it's still on 8123, but now it's https

#

I'm up on TLS. Thanks guys.

sly kindle
#

if you forwarded 443 to 8123, then you don't need to add :8123 to the end
