Hi guys, I don't know if this is the right channel to ask, but I'm really struggling with Let's Encrypt. I tried to follow the guide on the home assistant web pages and some of the post found on the forum and so on. My ISP has an integrated DynDNS that I can turn on inside the router, so I do have a myowndomain.com that points to my IP address. I would like to use it without DuckDNS, as all the posts/guides combine DuckDNS and Let's Encrypt. Can someone give me a quick hand? I'm missing something

I'll give another try @teal lotus I guess I did set dns as challenge instead of http and someway messed up the hassio as I couldnt access to it anymore somehow.
note when you set a base_url under http: in your configuration.yaml you'll need to access even locally over https://

Hi, anyone had issues with customize.servers after updating to nginx add-on 2.6?
mine doesn't seem to care about the config that is in servers: nginx_proxy/*.conf
(also updated HassOS from 1.12 to 3.9, but everything else is working normally)
Esphome question: it has been a number of releases since I used this and lots has changed. I wrote a yaml based on another file that was working. It validates. But when I save and open to edit I get 404. Something simple wrong?

While i am back to home and i am really confuse. my duckdns working fine and public ip correct. So I am still unable to access because my BitDefender found suspicious connection blocked. Next I tried Add to exceptions and trying to open browser then they says about ssl expired . Okay I tried to process to visit risk on my raspberry pi .
I double checked my SSL expired until April 2020 and my Adguard saying "Your SSL certificate is expired. Update Encryption settings."

So I open a new esphome dashboard event. Copy previously working code and the modify for the new device and hit save. The window closes. If I click on edit it says “404: file not found”
so assuming you tried doing it again and it fails, have you tried creating one of something else to see if it fails as well?
I'm not 100% sure how it saves those, you'll see a file name ect but I don't believe it actually creates a file with that name, instead I think it saves that data in something else and just refers to that as that file. so with that in mind, if it fails to save anything you may have something corrupted.

@plush hawk This plugin is now part of the default HACS store.
you shouldn't have to add the repo to HACS, it should be in the list. I found the weather card under Plugins. You simply install it from there rather than adding the repo.

did you add a card to lovelace using like one of the examples provided? https://github.com/kalkih/mini-graph-card#example-usage normal for custom cards you would pick the Manual Card option then place the code.

everytime I try to do a "git push" from the configurator add-on I get the following error

Hey guys! Does anyone have an idiots starter guide for Eclipse-Mosquitto? I am having issues with auto discovery and have a feeling is because announcements have happend and now stored in the MQTT broker.
But how on earth do you clear the broker if you are using the home-assistant (previously HASSIO) addon?
Reason for me not manually adding them via yaml is due to wanting to utilise the GUI as much as possible for ease of life.

I am creating a home assistant add-on: a wireguard client. For the moment it has been very simple, but I ran into a problem that is blocking me. At the beginning when I launched wg-quick up it said "ip6tables command not found". I have been unable to get ESPhome to connect to an ESP8266 board. When I try to "compile and upload" I get "ERROR Connecting to 192.168.1.227:8266 failed: [Errno 111] Connection refused" but when I look at the logs (within ESPhome) it says it's trying to connect to a different port

In the add-on conffig, I left the port section as the default (empty) bc it said it wasn't necessary for hass.io ingress

@remote oriole Ok - all cleaned up - that was messier than my configuration.yaml file...but anyways...
So here is the board I have, and what I have done so far: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FJ77MZ9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It came with instructions on setting it up through an app - so I did that first to get it onto my wifi so I could set a static IP. This worked fine. Once static IP was set, I installed and configured the ESPhome add-on; I'm on an VM install if that matters. Only change to the add-on config was false to true for ssl, since I am running through duckDNS to get external. From there, I added a new node via the add-on within HA (gave it a name, selected generic ESP, entered my wifi SSID/pwd, and it created the node. THen I jacked a bit of YAML from Dr Zzz'z vid on garage door controllers, saved it and compiled and uploaded - and see the "ERROR Connecting to 192.168.1.227:8266 failed: [Errno 111] Connection refused"
@muted fjord ok so in order to use esphome you need to flash the device with esphome. Your gonna wanna look around at a few different sources such as one like this (plus more) to get a better understanding https://youtu.be/soKuma8DJWQ I'm not sure what the device you bought came with but it won't work if it's not esphome and that's why you get errors.

Im having what sounds like a similar issue, I just updated the supervisor (hassio) and now my conbee2 is not showing under devices, Im using zha not deconz but it seems like its an issue seeing the stick not the integration
The integration works fine for me. The stick even shows up in the webapp but I get reconnects all the time in the deconz logs. And one out of two times, if I restart the deconz add-on, the device is not found.
Weird is that not more people seem to have this Problem. I mean alot of people use these solutions and if there is a problem with a recent HA update more people would complain.
Why can't i use secrets in add-on configs? I just tried to replace the password in the SSH addon with a !secret ssh_password instead of 'password' but the UI complains about that being invalid YAML?

I disconnected the stick from USB and changed to another and then the dilemma began. Zigbee channel changed to zero and it says firmware update: not connected

quick ? - I am trying to check my config with the config checker add-on, but the log scrolls too far for me to get all the info on what needs to be changed (I have a Lot of groups, which I am sure is giving .105 fits). Suggestions?

That is a strategy... Lucky for you, we have automated rollback nowadays. So if the upgrade takes long, please be patient, it might be that the Supervisor is rolling back the upgrade because the core didn't start.
Make sure to create a snapshot though 🙂
i need to dig more into the group thing, since I use groups in AppDaemon to control and see the state of thigns, but I am sure I can get around that
always - snapshots are good, I also copy everything in config to tarball - learned that lesson the hardway 🙂

Hi, I just installed the WireGuard addon. The installation seems to be ok, I can even reach stuff in my own lan from outside, but, when I check what's the IP address i'm coming to the world it will show the one assigned by my phone provider instead the one being used by the Hassio instalation.
Is that the expected behavior?

So Mosquito Broker addon in Hassio/Home Assistant — is it expected that localhost, 127.0.0.1, “homeassistant”, “core-mosquito”, and hassio.local won’t work as the address/broker name in various other add-ons?
After a lot of trials I found “homeassistant” does work for the Ring Alarm add-on; but seemingly nothing but the actual local device IP works for node-red.

I’d much prefer one of the shortcut local host options for a less brittle configuration (read that as: I know I’m going to forget and change my devices local IP at some point)
But why would 127.0.0.1 work when pointing to the broker in the Integration setup, and homeassistant work for the Ring Alarm addon?
For me host names are the brittle config. mdns isn't the most stable of things and another layer. ip address is always IP address. And using IP reservation on the router for the HA instance takes care of changing ips
I do use IP reservation. But from past experience I know there’s a good chance it WILL change sometime in the future

If you add devices manually using yaml then look for them on your states page
But you don't need both the integration from the ui and the yaml config for mqtt:

I am having truobles running ssh addon with autorized_keys. I get the error message "root@hassio.local: Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive)."
I have tried every forum entry I can find (and understand) and every option I can think of. I am trying to connect from a Macbook. Using password works fine.
I have generated keys as per instructions. I have copied the public key using pbcopy. When pasting into the addon however, it separates it to a few lines after pressing save. I assume this is because of YAML formatting to a more readble format?
Can anybody think of anything else I can try?

Hi all, I have been struggling with HomeAssistant for a we while now. Partly due to it's rapid change and finding a tutorial or two that is current. So far have Configurator, MQTT, sama and TasmoAdmin. Hassio is at 3.10.
Issue is with DuckDNS. When I start it, I get this: {

Hi. My influxdb addon keeps crashing upon starting up with an out of memory error. I'd like to investigate but it's hard since the container is no longer up once it crashes. Is there a way to configure the addon container to stay up even if there is an error when starting up influx?

If you used the venv (or Docker) methods of installing HA Core then ... you can't @remote girder
The only option you'd have would be to use the alternative install for HA (Hass.io as it was previously known)
I posted yesterday about issues with the SSH addon and using keys. After pasting from vi instead of pbcopy I got it to work. But today, it's back to "permisson denied". The only difference I can see now is that in the config the key is wrapped into several rows, where as yesterday when working it was only a single row after saving. What can cause this? I am puzzled!
Just updated MariaDB to v2.0. How can I re-open external access? I used to manage my database with 'HeidiSQL' from my computer; but connections are now blocked. Tried adding "host: '%'" to the config, but doesn't seem to work? Any ideas? 🙂

Question on VSC add-on. I am running HA on a NUC but accessing it on a Mac using Firefox. I can drag files from my Mac file system directly into HA using VSC, but I can't drag folders (so I've just been creating the folders manually and dragging files over). Hi All. I cannot get the configurator to be able to push to a remote git repo. However when I use the same ssh method to setup the git pull addon it works well. The configurator fails with a message saying could not read username for github.com. Any help please.

I've installed my new deconz stick and the basics are working. I added few bulbs for start (philips & ikea) and a wireless switch (philips - on, of, up, down) but I can't setup anything with the switch. The switch doesn't work and also I don't see any options to edit something except for adding bulbs to the switch. but the switch does nothing. In Hass.io I only see the battery state of the switch. also in hass.io there's nothing what I could set up. any hints?

Hi all! I'm having trouble with the official Deconz add-on. RPi4, vanilla Hassio install on brand new sd-card. I'm getting this error message in the hypervisor logs:

Thanks. Maybe i think i have an issue because of my set up. My HA box is set on a google wifi. But my google wifi get its internet connection from my ISP box. So i sat up a static ip and the port redirection in the google wifi, but not in the isp box, maybe i have to do that too ? (noob inside, sorry)
usually the ISP modem/(router) is set as a passthrough. so as long as your google wifi is set as the dhcp and not the modem you should be ok

i am trying to reinstall Influxdb using addon(used it a few years ago, but not with any recent versions of HA). All seems to have gone properly, but when i try a query only my darksky, lennox and sun entities are showing up under States, not all my expected sensors. Will they just take a while to show up (i.e. next time they report a changed value) or am I likely missing something?

Morning everyone. Yesterday, I upgraded both HA and Mariadb to the latest versions. Now, there seems to be an issue with mariadb and allowing remote connections and for the life of me I can't figure out what is going on. I have tried rebuilding the mariadb container, tried adding a new user who should be able to remote connect, etc. etc. Anyone else expereincing challenges with the most recent upgrade in the mariadb addon?
PS - from the container I can log into mysql and everything looks is fine (passwords, privs. etc). The only issue is allowing remote connections.

in general the official one should be enough for most usecases
however if you like to scan for hardware like bluetooth, access docker directly, install custom packages or run custom services, the community version can provide those capabilities

@low pulsar Yes, it indicated you are using an incorrect hostname in the Home Assistant configuration. Make sure your db_url in the recorder settings is using core-mariadb to connect to.

I am having trouble with samba and a virtualbox running HA... I can see the host computer on my network, but after starting samba it doesnt show up in my network. Do I have to disable the network on host machine?

Hey #add-ons-archived, I would like to setup Let's encrypt to secure communication to/from home assistant. I see there are docs on how to leverage nginx as a verse proxy, however I have nginx running as a reverse proxy on a different machine. How do I leverage the same certificate on both the nginx machine and home assistant? Or can I generate two certificates for the same domain name?
@rough gazelle why not just create another nginx server with a proxy_pass to your home assistant instance?
If your cert is a wildcard cert you could even set up a specific subdomain to go to home assistant
For example, I have my top-level domain going to home assistant with two subdomains going to other things. They're all separate servers in my nginx domain config that just proxy_pass to each service
Hey #add-ons-archived I've updated the VScode addon this morning, but I'm still getting terrible memory-leak and high CPU-use. Anybody else experiencing this? I'm running 0.105.5, supervisor 201 on a i3 NUC. I've tried disbaling GIT, but that doen't make a difference.
@weary stratus I don't see a terrible memory leak. It is a heavy add-on, that is expected though.
It is normal for vscode to use 500-1000mb of memory (even more on bigger configurations).
@raven tinsel Thanks for the reply, must be somthing specific to my config then. docker stats showed 5GB mem used and spikes to 350% cpu. It only starts spiking when I'm actually using the VScode frontend. Is there a way to limit resources for the VScode container. That way I can make sure Hass stays reachable
That sounds unwished for indeed, check the extension output of vscode to see if you can find hints. Any improvement is of course welcome.

the last release of the add-on did improve some things arounds search indexing and stuff
if you run the reset-settings in the terminal of vscode, it will load up the new defaults (restart the add-on after that)
Thinks like databases and stuff are now excluded, which helps a lot as well

it will also show a tab in the terminal window called "OUTPUT"
you can click that
and it will show you output of internal things
on the right side of the terminal window, there is a pull down box, allowing you to select the output of different things inside vscode (e.g., extension, extension host, etc)

@raven tinsel Found it! my config folder was symlinked inside my config folder 🤦. VScode addon is behaving very nicely now.

I noticed a couple of months ago that https://github.com/hassio-addons/addon-firefly-iii exists, and have been eagerly awaiting the moment it will show up in my HA's Addon Store screen. Anyone know when that might happen, or alternatively, how I can go about adding it to my HA instance manually?
i believe you could just put the firefly-iii folder into your addons folder @eager forge
then refresh the addons page. i don't run HA or HA supervised anymore though so i'm not totally sure

@teal lotus with the proxy_pass scenario to proxy requests from a separate NGINX server to home assist, I can definitely do that, but all of the internal connections between the proxy and home assistant would be unencrypted, which I'm trying to get away from. Likewise, via the mobile app, I would have to connect to the local home assist server via http, which I wanted to be secured (unless I do split brain DNS, which isn't favorable just for this one resource)

Is there a way to do end-to-end encryption or does home assistant typically only leverage http internally?
@eager forge It is available in the edge repository, but there are changes upcoming and still in development, so I would not recommend on using it just now.
@rough gazelle When using the reverse proxy add-ons, traffic is on the internal network of home assistant itself

I could add my Plejd dimmers and entities were created in HA but I cannot see status or control them from HA
@teal lotus @raven tinsel not sure I am following the suggestion. The goal is for end-to-end encryption between internet -> NGINX Proxy -> home assistant. I understand how to get NGINX to forward requests to home assistant via HTTP, but I'm not sure how I can use Let's Encrypt to provide encryption on both the proxy and home assistant machine itself.
if you set up a base_url for home assistant with an SSL cert i believe the local traffic will still be encrypted despite giving you an invalid cert warning
@teal lotus so in this case, maybe it's just best to do a self-signed cert on home-assistant and allow the proxy to forward to that, disregarding the self-signed error?

Yes, but when the proxy initiates the connection to home assistant, that could be encrypted, unless home assistant doesn't support a certificate directly on that service. That's the piece that's confusing is how exactly home assistant handles certificates (in this case was planning on using let's encrypt, but that may not be possible with the reverse proxy in front of it)
