yes
What do you mean by you tried both HACS and manual installation? Neither worked? I've never had to do a manual installation; HACS has always worked for me. (And I have 68 items installed.)
Yes. I know how to use HACS. What happened when you tried installing?
i just uninstaled and reinstalled, it worked thats wierd
Alright ive tried again today
My cursor dont hover over the button
but still when i click it opens the light setting yk
Hi All, running HAOS with the influxDB-addon from the store. Can i show a influx-dashboard in my home-assistant without using grafana?
Hm the issue is that i dont use tap action but i dont seem to get it corrected though
when i use tap action the picture dosent appear
does anyone know if there is a better media folder browser addon thing for HA? The built-in one isn't hugely nice to navigate (ie keeps defaulting to grid mode amongst other things) large directories of media (using it to record and store camera motion clips etc).
Having an entity from analog sensor with the battery voltage in mV (integer) and without unit_of_measurement. In the mini-graph-card I want to display the Value in V (divided by 1000) and showing the "V" as the unit.
Do I have to create my own sensor to achieve this or are there other/better ways?
Hey all, if I submit a Browser Mod popup service call to all browsers, how does it behave for browser's where the app is not open?
Do they not see the popup or does it show next time they open the app?
it's a pop up within the ha browser mod tab itself. if that's not the currently visible tab then you won't see the pop up
no idea if the popup will be open when you go into it next, never used it before ...I imagine it's easy to quickly test tho, right?
It will not show up.
Looks like maybe a bug? I would maybe open an issue, either in frontend if that's stock HA, or in your custom card otherwise.
No i fixed it. The script makes it load when theres a missing entity
I'm wanting to replicate the look of my Echo Show device on an Android tablet using HA sensors. Can someone tell me if there is a way to take Lovelace cards, make them full screen/full view AND resize the components within to fill the space?
Not sure if that makes sense or not but I have been able to get some of these to show up larger but the icons and text are the same size but the space between is increased to fill the space. Ideally I'd like the text, icon, and space to scale based on the device screen size
Does anyone know how to make a container card display the inner cards in a "flex" manner? Maybe there's a specific card for this or it could be done using card-mod? To clarify, by "flex" I mean a layout similar to how chip cards display when you have multiple of them.
I use custom:button-card to layout whatever I want tbh ^^
Can someone may try to answer my question from above?
Or am I in the wrong channel?
But isn't that a single button?
Or just single "card". I want multiple cards in a container. I did take a quick look at layouts for custom:button-card but it seemed like the layout was for inside the card itself, not the layout between multiple cards
yeah. Or use custom:layout-card. They do similar things, though the latter is better with media_queries
I guess it depends on how "big" you want your layout to be, which makes more sense. I'm working on this card at the moment. That's a custom:button-card
Ah let me take a look at layout card. I thought that card controlled the layout of the whole view, but it looks like it can be used as a card itself.
On the topic of button-card though, do you know if it supports icon "badges" like some mushroom cards do? Where there's a smaller icon in the top right of the icon itself
Not as a true/false option that I'm aware of, but it's easy enough to make it yourself with custom_fields
Oh yeah looks like there's even an example of something that looks like a badge in the docs: https://github.com/custom-cards/button-card?tab=readme-ov-file#custom-fields
I'll give that a shot
Search through your raw dashboard yaml for mod-card
It just looks like you miss-typed it as mod-card
I cant open the raw code
Why?
I dont know, I tried following a youtube guide
translated : The UI editor is not available in YAML mode.
English?
The UI editor is not available in YAML mode.
Oh sorry
Got transfixed 😅
Oh ok, so you're already doing YAML mode. Well go to where you pasted that YAML and look for mod-card
nope
It kind of sounds like you might be getting ahead of yourself though since you said you got this from YT. You might want to go back to basics and get a deeper understanding. I think using mod-card as a card itself is not a suggested pattern and the use cases are quite rare
Also if you're doing yaml mode you really should know where to find your YAML
Styling cards without an <ha-card>element
Oh interesting, it's called mod-card though? Huh
i need to find the yaml file through explorer
found it
what is going on
is this broken?
Ill go fo another one and see if it works
Yeah actually if you have it in your resources then I'm not sure
I do. So it might be outdated or some
Beautifyl as alway! 🙂
is there any way to add another line that will show what movie/series/episode etc is playing currently?
i'm looking at this documentation, but can't seem to implement it - https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/core/entity/media-player/
Can yaml size affect the speed of dashboard rendering? I have a Dashboard which on 18 sub view and 4248 lines of code. Its rendering is getting annoyingly slow. Does it make sense to split it into multiple dashboards or should I look for the cause elsewhere?
Translated with DeepL (https://www.deepl.com/app/?utm_source=ios&utm_medium=app&utm_campaign=share-translation)
Seems plausible, I would try and see.
does anyone know what service is used to stream a nest WebRTC (new gen doorbell) to cast?
It'll be a lot of work to just try it :D.
Sounds like you should start by playing around with more simple things first.
Also, your browser console output would help.
installed mini media remote and have a few questions:
- is there a way for it to pull what's playing on amazon prime? or is that beyond its capabilities
- i would like to have those temporary shortcut buttons open specific roku tv apps - netflix, plex, etc. not sure how to go about that/if it's possible
Can someone tell me how to make the custom button card take up the whole view?
styles:
card:
- height: 100%
In a mini-graph-card the current value of my battery, which is an integer in mV, but without unit_of_measurement. I found, that I can set the unit by myself in the card, nut I want to display it not in mV, but in V.
Can I somehow devide the value by 1000 using the exisiting sensor and not creating an own?
Did you look at the documentation of mini-graph-card? Has a value_factor that might do it.
thx, must have it overseen
Feature request: It would be great to have date/time pickers as cards available in the dashboard! Bram (on the release party live chat) mentioned they're available in ha-form, but I'm not sure there's any easy way to use that (I googled a bit and only saw instructions for building custom cards using them, and even that sounded somewhat fragile).
My use case: I have "light alarms" for rooms, where the lights turn on at a specific time. Think: setting an alarm for the cookies being done in the oven, or waking up with gradual lighting in the morning but at an abnormally-early/irregular time. I'd love to be able to set these from the dashboard, but the only way I could find that didn't have a popover was a custom "time-picker" card, but this doesn't unfortunately look consistent with the rest of the UI and also doesn't support dates.
Loving all the updates!
What about just input_datetime in an entities card?
Am I the only one experiencing card-mod (after 3.4.1 update) styles been applied with small delay (100-200ms probably) causing all the styles to "pop-up" after the card was initially rendered?
That kind of works, but you can't set it without clicking and then having a popup, which is just too many steps when I'm, e.g., cooking. Something like the climate tile temperature setting, or what I have now with "time-picker" but also for dates
I have a mushroom-entity-card with my mobilephone_battery_level. This card automatically shows different icons depending on it's level and charging state.
From the yaml representation of this card
- type: custom:mushroom-entity-card
entity: sensor.mobilephone_battery_level
name: Mobile phone battery
I cannot see where all this info upon the icons comes from. Are they within the sensor attributes?
Hi. I would like to use a custom "pure lovelace" card (here it is for reference: https://github.com/jmcollin78/solar_optimizer#in-addition). However, I don't really get where I should add the lovelace code. What is meant with # To put at the beginning of the front-end page ?
HI,
I have an error that I don't understand :

thanks in advance for your help
this first part of the code is put in the root of dashboard config yaml
(or edit mode > 3 dots menu > Raw configuration editor - from UI)
Check Decluttering card readme: (since it's one of 3 custom card that he uses there)
https://github.com/custom-cards/decluttering-card
Thanks for the pointer to the decluttering-card, that really helps.
Trying to use the “entities” card to show attributes, but getting this error instead: unknown type encountered: Attribute
Whats your card yaml?
type: attribute
entity: media_player.living_room
attribute: Title
prefix: 'Title: '
should look like:
type: entities
entities:
- entity: media_player.living_room
type: attribute
attribute: Title
prefix: 'Title: '
Thanks! I’ll try that
That worked, except now I see the entity on both rows. I’m guessing I’m running up against the limitations of the standard card and will have to look at custom cards if I want more control?
Possibly. There's also media control card to look at.
Yeah - thanks. I was playing around to see what kind of integration is possible. I’m thinking of an integration with TMDB…
how can i organize my Overview cards to stay down the middle of the page on my desktop. looks perfectly fine on the mobile device but its all over the place on my laptop screen
hi
still battling this issue, both redmi pad and surface pro having trouble showing custom cards
lol this is messed up, now even on the computer, if i go on a new chrome profile, its acting the same as the tablets
on my main chrome profile it works
@icy patrol I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
NVM; got it.. spacing issue..
Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone could help me out. I'm trying to center the Spotify icon when the player is idle, but I can't figure it out. Giving some padding will get the icon centered on desktop, but on mobile it looks very different.
Also, when the music is playing, it looks fine on desktop as on mobile.
Here is my code: https://pastebin.com/zwpaJ10u
one of the templates I'm trying to get to work has custom_picture: /local/images/rooms/exterior_v2.jpg. where do I put the images in the file system for that path to work?
did you try:
state:
- value: idle
styles:
img_cell:
- justify-self: center
- align-self: center
icon:
- color: white
name:
- display: none
beautiful, thank you for the quick reply!
Yeah, did that. No luck. It changes nothing.
you'r grid looks right. Since you are using min-content, when the other stuff is hidden, the row with the icon (1fr) should take up space of the whole card, and then you should be able to center it. At least in theory... ^^
Could it have to do somthing with the grid inside the custom_fields?
which is - grid-template-rows: 1fr min-content min-content for when the entity_picture is showing
what if you also hide the label when idle?
good thinking, but no difference 😦
I have not worked so much with entity_picture so maybe it behaves differently. what you could do otherwise is use the img_cell as placeholder for the image. Just set it's background to you spotify logo image. And add opacity: 0 to the icon.
Maybe i'm wrong, because when I say icon: - display: none it hides the spotify icon, so I don't think its the entity_picture (my bad).
I could try the img_cell als placeholder, whould I just use the - display?
is there a way to make these options all be hidden for specific users?
browser-mod can do it, per user or browser
ok thank you!
Hi guys im going insane, i have a DIY MQTT thermostat and i see that the 2024.1 update claims to have updated the thermostat card and they even show the screenshot of the temperature having decimals but i cannot reproduce that in any way, it still shows 21°C. Any way to show the decimals ?
Anyone using the new radarr+calendar integration? Curious on how it looks
morning, does anyone know if there is a better media folder browser addon thing for HA? The built-in one isn't hugely nice to navigate large directories of media (using it to record and store camera motion clips etc).
Hello, how to get correctly state of component translated to my language? I'm using {{ states(entity) }} but in the UI is showed locked instead of Czech zamknuto
Morning all. Can anyone tell me exactly what this means? Does it mean the browser cache? Thank you
indeed it does
or the app data if your on a application
been at this for days, cant find a solution
this what im getting with auto entites card
only on the wall tablets + guest profile on chrome on the computer
on my main chrome profile it works , looks this way .
Thank you
Don't think jinja templates can get translations
I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask, but any ideas why HA would return an empty response for recorder/statistics_during_period?
This request is made by ApexCharts and it only happens with a certain MQTT sensor. If I try to plot CPU usage, for example, it returns expected data points. 2nd picture shows the data from the sensor I'm trying to plot, but getting an empty response for.
there is supposed to be the battery icon there. but the code is outdated. is there a solution to it?+
Are you sure statistics are being recorded for that entity? Try adding it to a statistics-graph-card and see if it looks good.
I was just looking through the developer tools and stumbled upon the statistics tab, the entity I'm interested in isn't on the list
Please ... share text as text, not as images
Alright sure
It needs a unit of measurement and a device_class to be eligible, probably one of those is missing.
Sorry state class I mean
@vast crane hmm, it's an MQTT sensor defined in the config
- name: "Boiler room power"
unique_id: "...-boiler-room-power"
state_topic: ".../state"
availability_topic: ".../availability"
device_class: power
unit_of_measurement: "W"
ah!
add state_class: measurement
thank you! it shows up in the statistics tab now, I'm guessing it's going to take a bit before data is gathered.
yep, that's it. Curiously the custom:mini-graph-card card worked regardless, I'm assuming it was doing all the calculations client-side
@vast crane You can use any text as a unit of measure
Yes? (Not sure what this is in reference to...)
how do i make a card show decimal points values ?
i have a bar card displaying entities and their values, something makes it lose anything past the decimal point
You've specified decimal: 0. You probably just need to set it to 1, 2 or whatever you need
https://github.com/custom-cards/bar-card#options
Does anyone know how i can add the battery icon into my person card?
Is there a way to add a manual counter to a dashboard?
Via this dashboard I want to increase and decrease the numerical value of that counter.
Copy code icon of wifi for battery icon
Then change wifi icon with battery icon
Can anyone send one i can use instead?
No i just wanted to show that i cant copy the wifi icon part to the battery
I have a button card with a input_button helper. but when I tap it, it doesn't make a button press, it opens the info popup where i have the "press" field. When I make tap_action to execute the automation I want to run, it does not use a trigger_id as required.
The input_button docs have a missing lovelace example.
hey guys im using mini graph card from hacs to get these three stats in one card, but dont know what those two values inside the marked green boxes are. They seems to only appears whenever is move my cursor over the card and they are a bit annoying, any guess how can i get rid of them ??
make the tap action call-service using the button.press service including your button entity_id inside data
tap_action: action: call-service service: button.press data: entity_id: input_button.tool_supl_run_automation
it doesn't work with either data nor target
Try changing some of the show options? Not sure which one it is you want, maybe average and extrema? https://github.com/kalkih/mini-graph-card#available-show-options
the service call would be input_button.press
how does one enable themes? It used to work when i've tried to use them in the past, but now in my userprofile options themes are greyed out. i have some themes installed still via hacs.
Upgraded to latest version and now can't change the temp in thermostat for my tile card. When changing temp says not valid preset mode even though I'm not changing preset mode...
did you do this? https://hacs.xyz/docs/categories/themes
I today find that there is a "decluttering_template", very helpfull, since I want to have similar modified cards in several rooms. Then I came to the point placing my template cards into a yaml-file and include this in my dashboard. This does not work, since include is only available in "yaml-mode"
Can someone tell me or point me to a page to know, how I can switch to yaml-mode?
If I do this, is this valid only for one dashboard or for all (I want still the graphic mode for prototyping and having fast results)?
An can I convert my current dashboard to this yaml-mode?
@timber coyote thanks, those were labels. i have disabled them through labels available show options -- labels. another thing that noticed is it only shows minimum maximum and average values of the very first entity entered but not for other two.
yes, I've just noticed that was commented out for some reason (not sure why as I didnt do that) and they seem to be working now for what its worth. anyone know of any nice themes (which aren't on hacs)?
I am using minimalist UI and was wondering how I can make the custom card templates availble in other dashboards. When I use the custom button card as a custom card in the dasboard ui it says that the custom template card is missing. How do I reference this? The card works fine in my Mimimalist Ui dashboard.
you would need to add each template in your raw configuration file. That's going to be a lot of code...
I am wanting to reproduce this as a view that I can show on an old android tablet. I am mostly new at this and am looking for advice on what cards to use for something like this. Can this be accomplished using the grid layout card and use a few custom custom button cards with templated values assigned to different parts of the grid?
yes 🙂 or better yet, use just one button card and skip the layout card.
hmm. As stated, I'm pretty new at this. Can you link any similar examples that I can use as a guide?
yes the card codumentation is great. After you've scrolled through it, take your time to study this example. Look at each component in the card and compare it to the grid in the yaml below. Once you figure ount how it's all connected, you'll be making your own layouts in no time 🙂
https://github.com/custom-cards/button-card?tab=readme-ov-file#custom-fields
Thanks for the link and the push forward. I certainly appreciate it. I'm really getting sick of Amazon showing me stuff I'm not interested in. This is part one in rolling my own echo show. I'm hopeful that wakeword support for android is not far off and then I can selfhost my voice assistant with display once and for all.
best of luck! IF you have a good weather integration with all that info as attributes from your image you should be able to make this card with just that one entity + some templating to fetch todays date ofc. you can start a thread if need help further down the line
First snag. Trying to convert this to use with my sensor which has attributes:
</ha-icon><span>CPU: <span style="color: var(--text-color-sensor);">${states['sensor.raspi_cpu'].state}%</span></span>`
to:
</ha-icon><span>Temp: <span style="color: var(--text-color-sensor);">${{ state_attr('weather.home', 'temperature') }}%</span></span>`
I'm getting a syntax error. Is that the wrong way to try and pull the attribute? It works in dev template testing area
Looks like you're mixing up JS and Jinja
🙂 I'm sure I am. I do a search for JS home assistant attribute?
I don't use that card, but maybe states[xxx].attributes.temperature ?
</ha-icon><span>Temp: <span style="color: var(--text-color-sensor);">${states['weather.home'].attributes.temperature}%</span></span>`
Got it. Now I think I can do some things!
Quick question on entities card. If I am not mistaken, the entities card also uses sliders. But which attribute makes the card show the slider?
I believe it must be a number or input_number domain, and if so it must be either mode: slider, or maybe mode: auto and have some discrete number of steps
Ah, then there is no way to force entities card to show the slider e.g. for a climate entity or for a dimmable light?
I'm guessing that's not a thing, unless you have some custom resource that can do it.
Okay, thank you 👍
Guess I will have to figure out how to style the slider-entity-row card then 🫣
Does anybody know if in an entities card populated with auto-entities, the friendly_name can be displayed as name:?
I know you can do
type: custom:auto-entities
sort:
method: friendly_name
filter:
include:
- entity_id: climate.eq3_*
options:
name: this.entity_id
But that displays the entity_id.
Since templating is not supported, maybe there is a different way of getting the friendly_name instead of entity_id?
Tried stuff like this.entity_id.friendly_name or this.entity_id.attributes.friendly_name with no success
thank you! works now. very confusing that both exist.
I miss that this is not documented on the input_button page, but the other input_things don't have that included as well (not as much needed in these cases) and I don't feel comfortable enough to propose a change.
Is it possible to change the Subview title font style using card_mod perhaps?
I'm guessing it's done by the theme style.css
hello, how i could make a lovelace.reload_resources, i haven't this entry on 3 vertical ... of lovelace after choosing modify the dashboard, and inside dev/services i don't find lovelace.reload_resources ?
I don't understand. What are you trying to reload? Themes? You can reload all yaml or all core config, if that helps.
Does anybody know if card_mods can use html tags? Trying to change .text-content and would like to make some part subscript)
.text-content::after {
content: 'Normal text subscripted text'
}
@gloomy iris no, all that reload doesn't make the job, even after a global restart of the machine which support HA, i have found : we need to delete the .gz corresponding of the .js file updated, add a version to the ressources files under lovelace update, then clear the browser cache, restart the session (no need to restart HA)
Not sure what you were actually trying to do. Your first post read quite cryptic.
HEllo all.. i am trying to find a nice, sleek solution to this. I have made this
but the temp and humidity don't line up... so on different platforms it looks weird. but i can't seem to find something that would make it on one card.. make it that small and be able to look like this.
ideaS?
@silent wind these people might help with that
I think im getting it..
@silent wind
can someone tell me where do i paste template code?
That's not "template code"; that's the yaml for a card.
Custom element doesn't exist: button-card.
Try refreshing your browser and clearing your cache. (I'm assuming when you say you installed custom:button-card, you used the HACS method.)
(Reference: #general-archived message)
yes i installed using hacs
i paste the code into the card
not sure if this goes here or in #general-archived, but after enabling the http integration with a valid ssl_certificate and ssl_key, the web interface doesn't seem to start
the observer says connected/supported/healthy
Do you have the inkwell template the card is looking for?
i have the code idk where to paste it
i pasted it in the raw configuration editor idk if it'll ruin anything or not
let me try again now
Did you follow the syntax for it?
https://github.com/custom-cards/button-card#configuration-templates
Scroll down and look at the example code.
i messed up
the oveview tab is gone lol
it seems to work but broken
but i lost my overview tab
@silent wind I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
oh, you can't use homeassistant.local if you have an ssl_cert and key set? that seems silly.
how can i fix the name basem...
can i make it appear fully?
Your cert is for a real domain name, right?
yeah
Then, yeah
I can access the webui from my domain
As expected
kind of annoying that you can't access homeassistant.local if you have ssl set up
You understand it, right?
not really, no
Anyone know any good videos about getting started with making HA dashboards?
it's also annoying that it doesn't auto upgrade to https 😵💫
most people use a reverse proxy like NGINX to connect securely when remote and not when local
like, if i type my domain without using https:// then it just resets the connection
You can't expect the cert to support both names
annoying that it can't do the basic thing of upgrading to https tho
That's a rewrite rule
It seems like you really wanted to use NGINX and just didn't
So switch
i don't know how 😭
can someone help me withe the name part
i tried looking up how to set it up and could not find any good documentation
u know anything about text alignment?'
What’s going on? Perhaps I can help. I host HA (and other services) on a local machine in my apartment, and I use a VPS whose only purpose is to be an Nginx reverse-proxy back to my apartment’s server.
i'm trying to set up pi-hole and home assistant through nginx proxy manager
Oh. I have never heard of that project. Is the problem because Nginx is running on a separate machine other than your HA and PiHole setup?
HA is running in a VM with its own IP, PiHole and Nginx are on the same network
though i'm having trouble getting pihole admin web interface and nginx to play nice
Ok here’s my recommendation , and this is true for just about any homelabbing or programming you do. Start out small, and then add functionality. My homelab started out as Nextcloud running on a VPS. The Agile method will do you wonders. So focus on getting one system working first.
well i had ha and pihole working together
and then i tried to set up the reverse proxy
Why is Nginx not playing nice. What’s it doing?
pi-hole uses lighttpd instead of nginx
maybe i can set pihole on a different port 🤔
That shouldn't affect the reverse-proxy.
HA in the docker container on my homelab is surely using some sort of WSGI server, yet I still connect back to it.
no i mean like
only the pi-hole admin interface or nginx can run simultaneously
i changed the pihole port to 8080 instead
@true galleon I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Some things will be different, as I just copied and pasted that from my own Nginx configuration for HA. You also probably won't have the CLI version, but hopefully the gui options look similar. And your SSL stuff is probably automatic. Mine isn't.
There's also supposed to be a colon here: proxy_pass http://localhost:8080.
oh btw, how do i figure out what ip to put in to trusted_proxies for http
On what service?
It will be the IP address of the device hosting Nginx.
hmm, i did that and the websocket didn't work
There's also a specific HA configuration you need.
the use_x_forwarded_for one?
Anyone using bar card ? id like to add here another sensor value, anyone knows how its done ?
In HA, you need the following in configuration.yaml:
http:
use_x_forwarded_for: true
trusted_proxies: 10.0.0.1
10.0.0.1?
10.0.0.1, in my case, is the Wireguard IP address of my remote Nginx server.
ah
So it will be the IP address of the server that hosts Nginx.
so if my server was on 192.168.4.42, that's what I would put?
If Nginx is on 192.168.4.42
It doesn't matter where HA is, in this case.
However, if it's on a VM, you'll probably need to ensure that the VM has access to the host's network in some way.
the vm has an ip of 192.168.4.72
Depending on how your virtualization network is set up, the VM won't be able to "see" that IP address.
is there a way to inspect what IP addresses are probing home assistant?
What's the IP address of the Nginx host? Are they on the same subnet (the subnet is the part after the /, usually a 24).
I am not sure. I run HA core; so my setup is quite different.
Subnetting is more complicated than that tbh. I honestly don't know a better way to explain it without it being a long wall 'o text.
oh i figured out the issue
i had to toggle websocket support in nginx proxy manager 🤦♀️
Hi! Is there some way to overload some actions to use different target? For example I have switch but on hold_action I want to show more-info for different element
Or different way: how to open device board (with all controls, sensors, configs of device) on hold_action
Or how to open some specified Entities Card

can i remove this?

@fading musk I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
how do I set the height of a custom button?
i'm trying to view images directly through the media browser in h-a, but i see that all images point directly to 127.0.0.1:28765, which of course turns into a connection refused
what images?
guess i have exactly the same problem as this guy
images from motioneye, for instance
which is under share/motioneye/Camera1
under card: in the styles:
i have a couple of sensors from esphome. neither of them has specifically set the icon, but when i look into developer tools and states i see that one of them has an icon configured (icon: mdi:arrow-expand-vertical). the other one has no such attribute set and that automatically use a battery icon that also reflect the amount of percentage. meaning that the icon will dynamically change based on the %.
i want the same for this other sensor, but i can't figure out how to unset this icon setting?
Actually I managed to solve it by setting square: from true to false
sorry for the crytic, i should have been more explicit, my 1rst post was about to find a way to relaod lovelace ressources, after some updates using file editor in the .js code for a plugin stored in config/www/XXX (not from the repository)
Do you know how I can set the background color of the whole grid?
I set it in the card section and i get these rounded squares
No I'n not familiar with that card
@zenith stag helped me a few weeks back, on how to make this into a button card instead of a grid card.
#1185873894159171605 message
have a look there, and you might find a way that can help you out 🙂
anyone has a recommendatio for the picture-elements card?
I want to reuse the camera_image entity in one of the elements without manually restating the entity_id... reuse of a variable such as {{ camera_image }} or {{ this }} would be ideal
That sounds like what HACS also needs to do for the new integrations to work. And that (simply) requires a restart. So if everything is setup correctly, a restart should be all that is needed.
And if the resources are frontend, then I think not even that is needed, because the frontend tries to access the files when the dashboard calls for the respective card/mod.
Moved my previous question to the community thread after much trial and error and finally finding the solution 🙂
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/card-mod-add-css-styles-to-any-lovelace-card/120744/5659?u=alexsr700
Totally noob question here: Is there a way to design cards and UI using Webflow and then use the designs in HA ?
I do not believe that is possible, there might be a way... but not that i know off.
You can use css, but on individual cards using card_mod or other forms of styling
have you tried using the custom:button-card?
Not yet, I am just asking question ahead of entering the HA world 😉
I'm looking through the docs of custom button card. Can someone explane what the two highlighted items are? Specifically what is min-content and 1fr? Can't find mention of them outside of in the examples
a bit of searching has brought me to a page that describes.
https://css-tricks.com/introduction-fr-css-unit/
I have a snow javascript file in my config. When I add the resource to the dashboard, it activates snow falling on top of HA. Is it possible to make a toggle switch for this? Like a toggle helper I can use to turn the snow on and off?
Strange link behavior in markdown card. It always redirects me to my dashboard.
type: markdown
content: '* [Test](/local/images/test.jpg)'
title: Test
Do I need to specify a default viewer somehow?
what would be the most efficient way to modify #card-header across the entire dashboard? i come from a css/sass background, but surely there has to be a better way than card-mod on every card
i am also keen to know haha
You can use card_mod on themes. That way you can make the changes global
someone can tell me why I have two time this in my menu ?
Minimalist serves you with two types of dashboards. You can disable them in the integration options
Sometimes card_mod auto removed after finish edit markdown card.
I just had this problem this afternoon with the latest Hass.
I tried cloning a card with card_mod. Then try changing the format and Save. And that card lost its card_mod
morning all, my selected theme seems to go back to default regularly, what can i check to see why this is happening?
Anything in the logs?
Unrelated question of my own at everyone :
I love the idea of using card_mod: &ref_1 and then referencing it. But is it also possible to add to a referenced mod?
I.e. call it with card_mod: *ref_1 but then adding another, once off mod? Kind of like making ref_1 the basis and adding to it.
also, can someone else confirm if this is the case (bug or intended i'm not sure.. if its not just me that is) ... when opening a generic camera feed object from the media/camera folder or from the entity itself, it doesnt automatically start playing when doing it on the android app. if i do it from the web gui, it does start playing automatically.
nothing i can see 😦
There is a card_mod debug mode, but I have never used it so I do not know if that would help find the problem. (In case you are using card_mod in your theme)
I am assuming it is not linked to you using a specific card or after you open a specific dashboard?
Is it a self-made theme or a downloaded one?
ok, i'll look for debugging somehow. i was more wondering if there was some kind of global option that is overriding it or something. i've not really used themes before,
just any theme (ones i've installed from hacs)
You could check the source repository/github if there are any issues. If you have not been using it for a while and the theme has not been updated in a while, maybe there was a breaking change in frontend.
Post the name of the theme here. Maybe someone else is using it also and can help.
IIRC per device user settings (I think theme is one of them) is reset if you clear caches or log out. Either of those apply to you?
oh is it? thats pretty useless then 😕
not sure if cache was cleared, maybe, I'll keep an eye on it.
maybe cache clear is not the right term, I think its whenever you just delete the stored data for a website. not sure exactly
Hey all, sorry about the noobness of this question, but I'm still learning my way around YAML.
- I have a bunch of battery sensors gathered using https://github.com/maxwroc/battery-state-card#secondary-info
- I want the secondary info for each to be the type of battery (which I'm using Battery Notes https://github.com/andrew-codechimp/HA-Battery-Notes)
- I'm using https://github.com/thomasloven/lovelace-template-entity-row this to generate secondary information
However, it's not showing! Is there something fundamentally wrong with my code, or do custom cards (like the Battery State Card) not able to work in conjunction with Lovelace-template-entity-row?
I just want it to display "CR-2032" (or whatever it might be) underneath
Thank you 🙂
I'm trying to figure out how I can launch the 'companion app settings' from a navigation's on_tap. Use case: I have a full-screen layout for a wall-mounted panel/tablet, so I don't have the hamburger menu to go into settings.
I figured that the link is #external-app-configuration, but if I navigate to that, nothing happens. Is there a service or other work-around I can use to open the settings page (not the built-in configuration, as the panel user does not have access to that).
I believe you are asking for YAML Merge Keys. I can’t remeber if I tried them myself or not 🙂
They should support additional keys. So maybe I need to play some more and place the key (or is it an anchor?) behind style: rather than behind card_mod:.
Strangely I updated a card earlier using those keys/anchors and when I edited the file again later, the keys were replaced with the code. I thought those keys would remain permanent (so reduce the characters of code significantly)
Im working on a wallpanel tablet and i want a fullscreen player to show whenever i play music in my house. That automation works. For the player im using mini-media-player but when i use that in a panel dashboard, the player is shown in a 1:1 aspect ratio. How can i make the mini player show as 16/9 aspec ratio
type: vertical-stack
cards:
- type: custom:mini-media-player
entity: media_player.spotify_username
artwork: full-cover
toggle_power: true
scale: 2
aspect_ratio: 1.56
You can have as many anchors as you want and name them whatever upu want (in a yaml dashboard). In the gui they will be changed to the naming you posted earlier
In the gui they will be changed to the actual code as soon as I hit save. Is that what you meant?
I thought I could maybe use them to reduce the amount of repeating code, but seems not 😦
Hi everyone
I am trying to display a pdf in a card but for some reason the iframe does not show the contents of the pdf no matter which scale I use.
Does anybody know why? Do I need to specify a reader or something inside HA? If I open the file using a markdown link, the file opens.
@gloomy iris I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
Hi all, is there a image card that allows me to display an image on a another server
...except the image that gets added has a different name...so in essence it would have to display the newest image in the folder.
Is it possible to "clear" the value/field of an "input_number" from a script or other means, so I don't have to manually delete the previous value before entering a new one? Best I could do is set it to "0" but not ideal as I still have to delete the zero.
question please, i created a group that contains multiple script entities in it
how do i run the entire group ?
Turn it on?
when i put the group entity in a card , i dont have a run button
That's not a typical use of a group
so what is the way to do this ? lemme show you
down below is the individual light script
above is the grouped one
i want to have a run button like the one below
that will run the script on all my wleds
Make a script that calls the other scripts
wont it be a sequence that way ?
or is there a parrallel option ?
there, found it, thank you
It's more flexible, as a group would always be sequential
also, the RUN button is black colored, hard to see with my theme, can it be changed to white like the rest of the text on that card ?
Does anyone know how to get frigate camera feeds to work in the "area" card on the normal lovelace ui? The cameras are working... if I put a camera card on the UI, or view the feed from the device list, it is working... and I have my "bedroom" cmaera assigned to the "bedroom" area.... but it comes up with an image missing in the ui...?
I've a glance card and would overwrite the tap_action to display the heater card in a popup. Any tips how to do that?
Has anyone tried combining the custom batter-state-card with the newish Battery Notes integration (via HACS) within their UI? If so, what did you end up with in terms of looks?
Hopeing to get some ideas and all.
im using this card for rgb lights on my strips
https://github.com/bokub/rgb-light-card
trying to make a card that will look the same as the individual strip card but a click there will send the color change command on all the other strips
this is the individual one
this is the main where i want to add the color commands
this is the code for the individual one, i tried going like
entities:
- light.entity
- light2.entity
but it wont accept it, any other way i could try ?
Is it possible to do padding on a vertical stack in card? I need a padding:20px
Hi guys.
is there any custom card to add a 3 option toogle to the lovelace?
Like this
mybe with the mod-card and css like this
NOTE: card-mod only works on cards that contain a ha-card element. This includes almost every card which can be seen, but not e.g. conditional, entity_filter, vertical-stack, horizontal-stack, grid.
Source
Workaround: Styling cards without an <ha-card> element
Cards that don't have a <ha-element> can still be styled by using the supplied custom:mod-card card.
Is this normal to have all these errors on inspection through chrome?
You can make something like that with the custom:button-card. You would need to setup configuration with states to establish "activated/not-activated" styles. You may have to get a little tricky with the coding if you're trying to match to an attribute or state of another entity.
Here's a portion of how I make a button "light up" when the attribute matches:yaml state: - operator: template value: |- [[[ return states[variables.var_entity_id].attributes.brightness <= Math.floor((variables.var_value + 5)*2.55) && states[variables.var_entity_id].attributes.brightness >= Math.floor((variables.var_value - 5)*2.55)]]]
would love to use the number in the settings notification in a button somewhere, but tbh, cant find a way how to do so. would anyone here know how to get lets say a custom: button-card to show that number?
reason: I hid these 'system' menu items, and moved them to my 'developer' dashboard in a button-card grid. Only caveat now is I miss those notifications. Having them on a button-card would bring the complete functionality to a priviliged section for the admin, and no-one else to see...
I was actually looking up a related subject a little bit ago. This is a template that counts how many update entities are on. {{ states.update | default([]) | selectattr('state','eq','on') | map(attribute='entity_id') | list | count }}
yes, but thats easy 😉 because those have enties we can template.
those notifications have more than only updates (I think?)
not sure though, but dont the repairs endup there too?
and newly discovered integrations....
I mean, if the notification on the tray can see/count items, we should be able to do that too using a button-card frontend template
complication would be though, that I've hidden that menu-item, so a js command referencing that would not work probably
Pretty sure integrations does not get counted into the settings counter. I have two discovered integrations that are not correlated with the number of updates available (shown with the settings counter). But I do have a single notification for the devices (integrations) found.
You could expand the template to produce a count of everything you want (so, Settings + Notifications).
I have a sensor with 3 timestamps and in the UI using format:time. One as a state, the others as attributes. The state does not get converted to time, the attributes ones do. It used to work before it got integrated yaml-free. I don't know if it's me or something with the changes to UI mode and if it has to be reported to integration maintainers.
- type: entities entities: - entity: >- sensor.swiss_public_transport_1 format: time - entity: >- sensor.swiss_public_transport_1 type: attribute attribute: next_departure format: time - entity: >- sensor.swiss_public_transport_1 type: attribute attribute: next_on_departure format: time
yes, I think I can start there. thx. newly tracked network trackers are also in the notifications afair.
You can look at what the frontend does
https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/blob/dev/src/components/ha-sidebar.ts
would be nice if we new exactly what gets counted in the settings cunter
great!
now can we count issues in a template?
uhmmm, dont think I have that somewhere yet
JS yes, probably Jinja no
js would suffice, for the notification on a button-card
I think...
its great to have that function there https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/blob/90965a4f4db29fdb03647c16c9000c6bcdc99244/src/components/ha-sidebar.ts#L548, its exactly what I need on the button.
The updates counter is at Line 342.
if we must (rather not) we can probably check Spook to count issues?
right, think I have enough to create the template in HA, and on the button in JS referencing that, or even JS alone, and have conditional coloring for it in the menu/view icon 😉
thanks for helping me!
Ill start with```
{% set issues =
states('sensor.active_issues')|int(default=0) %}
{% set updates =
states.update
| selectattr('state','eq','on')
| list | count %}
{{issues + updates}}``` and go from there
1st effort, needs further finetuning, but fully functional
@fiery ledge I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
hey friends. I'm working on displaying who is live on twitch in a dashboard card. I have the integration working fine, but I have over 100 sensors that I'd like to put in an entity filter card (display sensor only if the state is streaming). While I could type in every sensor, there must be a better way to grab all the sensors related to the twitch integration and use that instead. That would also mean anyone new I follow wouldn't need to be added by hand to the card. Must be a clever solution to something like this.
Ever since the latest update is anyone experiencing issues with card-mod? The train used to move from right to left but now it’s static.
yes apparently you are right, I did not know that. Well, yet another reason to go full yaml😅
maybe it ran out of coal.....are you using it right? 🙂 or did you just write style: ?
elements:
- type: image
image: https://www.freeiconspng.com/thumbs/toy-train-png/toy-train-png-23.png
style:
animation: blink 5s linear infinite
width: 80%
Is there any way to change the behaviour of the Android App with regard to graphs? If you tap on a graph to try and get the information from one point on it, it opens another graph. Even if you click "Show More" and set a timeframe for the graph, if you tap the graph to find the value of a point on it, then it opens another graph again. Making it very hard to get a point on the graph without ending up selecting text somewhere with a long press which seems to be the only way to prevent the opening of multiple graphs.
Hi, I would like to determine the number columns of the raster card in function of the width of the dashboard. For this purpose I would like to know:
- I there a variable to get the current width of the dashboard
- Is it possible to perform a calculation like floor(width/50px) in Yaml?
It sounds like custom:layout-card and media queries would be easier
Good evening everyone 🙂
I am seeing completely weird behaviour in my iframe card.
When I enter a template as url, I see a card on that dashboard 🤔
- type: iframe
url: '{{ "/local/recipes/" + states("input_text.recipe_selection") + ".jpg" }}'
Whereas entering the file path+name directly works
type: iframe
url: /local/recipes/test.jpg
Templating in the webpage card is not documented, but if it was not supported, I would have expected a 404 error.
No you can't, but there are PRs being considered to improve this behavior for mobile.
Hi Fredrik, I checked the layout-card project on github and it seams that it isn't maintained any longer. Hence I would like to stick with official cards. Any suggestions on my questions?
Have you considered using apexcharts-card?
oh where/how can you tell that?
I think a lot of people are relying heavily on it (me included) so hope that is not the case 😅
And many open PRs and bugs
I think Thomas's cards have simply reached a state that is pretty stable. I doubt he would let them die 😉
IF it were to die I bet Nabu would make sure to update the features in the grid card or something.
Well, the repository does not look very promising ...
Until then, show your support and use layout-card 🔥
I feel like this wasn't the behaviour before November 2023 or so. Pretty sure when I upgraded from an October build to November/December build of HAOS/Core and a newer mobile App update that this behaviour became apparent and made it more frustrating to use Graphs. I use a phone to control/check HA all the time, I rarely use it on a computer in a browser, so I get this behaviour all the time unfortunately.
Hopefully the PR's help with this for mobile use.
Can anybody think of a reason for this behaviour`?
Hello, I want to add a bunch of graph cards for specific entities based on names. Any tips on how to do this? I manually typed in 3 graph cards, but i want it to auto populate entities and make new ones show up automatically when i add them
I was trying to use auto-entities but it doesnt like this particular graph card...
How did you try?
Yeah this behavior was added around that time. I think someone added the PR as a desktop focused idea (where there was no action on click, so it was a nice additional behavior), but then missed to consider the mobile experience. There were several complaints and now it's working through to find an alternative solution.
Hey guys I am new to HA and wanted to know if it is possible to make a dashboard that just has a video stream of the babys room and temperature overlayed?
I can add a web card to pull the feed in but the crops 90% of the video off as its a 1920x1080 stream
just curious if I should use a differnent card type. I am just pulling a stream from frigate using the following URL
http://192.168.86.232:30058/api/Baby?fps=15&motion=1&h=1080
Looks like I can use a picture entity.. seems to work better
Then I cam pull in my sensor stats into that to overlay
can yall share me your graph or somehow how yall setup to monitor ping or something to a certain server
idk what im doing wrong mine only showing nan
im not even brown
Area card can get you temperature overlayed over a video feed.
@silent wind If you're using the Ping (ICMP) integration to create a binary_sensor, the state of the entity will be either on or off (connected/disconnected, if Show as Connectivity is set), hence the NaN (not a number). The trip times are available as attributes.```yaml
type: custom:mini-graph-card
entities:
- entity: binary_sensor.internet
attribute: round_trip_time_avg
show:
graph: bar```
thanks for the reply how do i do that graph like you made?
oh wow it worked instantly
so in this case what does that number mean?
round_trip_time_avg - the average round trip time
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/ping/
i basically got 2 isp to monitor ping and latency like meraki dashboard together with a aws server
i've been going thru that page for a few days now idk why i'm not understanding it
this how it shows in meraki
i wanna be able to monitor wan 1 and wan 2,both i got fixed ip from isp
and another ip address which is a aws server
trying to make this design of graph idk why it doesn't work
I think the hard part is going to be setting up HA to be able to route traffic appropriately through WAN1 and WAN2 in order to get an accurate reading.
can i just get a ping to the wan 1 ip and wan 2 and together with the aws server?
You may have to click Save in order to get it to update itself. I noticed a few times when I made changes that they did not take affect in the editor.
oh oke is it ok for me to pm u?
broke it
is there any other way other then a binary_sensor?
Something tells me it is not going to be that easy. I imagine if you try to ping the WAN2 IP, the traffic can just go out WAN1 and then make its way to the WAN2 IP. That IP address, I assume, would only be useful externally. I found a question when Googling: How do I ping WAN 2?
sensor:
- platform: template
sensors:
ping_sensor_google_com:
friendly_name: "Ping Sensor Google"
value_template: "{{ state_attr('binary_sensor.google_com', 'round_trip_time_avg') | default(0) }}"
should i add that to my configuration.yaml?
yeah it says ping to the wan 2 static ip which is what i'm trying to show
That was recently deprecated. I still have the remanents in my configuration.yaml. ```yaml
binary_sensor:
- platform: ping
host: 10.10.10.6
name: "Unraid"
scan_interval: 120
count: 1
- platform: ping
host: 8.8.8.8
name: "Internet"
scan_interval: 120
count: 1```
oh oke that was made by my partners
gpt and bard 👀
ur saying i should try this code and add it to configuration yaml?
deprecate - to withdraw official support for or discourage the use of (something, such as a software product) in favor of a newer or better alternative.
The yaml version has been deprecated in favor of the Ping integration.
I see so whats the newer way of doing it?
do i configure something from here?
I assumed that what you already did to create the binary sensor.
yep
i'm still lost idk what i'm doing so imma not mess with the configuration.yaml
There's no need to put it in the configuration.yaml. In fact, HA will convert it to the integration and tell you to remove it. That's why my example has been commented out. I'm not aware of alternatives to the Ping integration.
so i can't make it show a graph or anything?
i followed ur code back
type: custom:mini-graph-card
icon: mdi:speedometer
unit: ms
entities:
- entity: binary_sensor.google_com
attribute: round_trip_time_avg
show:
graph: line
type: custom:mini-graph-card
icon: mdi:speedometer
unit: ms
entities:
- entity: binary_sensor.google_com
attribute: round_trip_time_avg
show:
graph: line
does this means it's pinging there?
You can combine them into a single card, if you want. ```yaml
type: custom:mini-graph-card
name: Ping Times
align_state: center
entities:
- entity: binary_sensor.internet
attribute: round_trip_time_avg - entity: binary_sensor.unraid
attribute: round_trip_time_avg
hours_to_show: 24
show:
fill: false
points: true
labels: false```
The integration handles the actual pinging but you should see the graphs update periodically.
btw this seems nice seem to work is there any chance can i make it show the ip in the graph of who it's ping?
seems to work
can i also display the ip ?
or what other ways i can display them?
Each entity can be customized such as adding name: WAN1
https://github.com/kalkih/mini-graph-card#entities-object
hey thanks for this page was looking for a list of these stuff
this ping and the cmd ping to google.com shows different result slightly is it normal?
If it isn't anything drastic, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure there's many factors that could be factored.
like the aws server i'm pinging is 13ms avg on cmd and on home assistant it's showing 1ms
maybe the update interval is not fast enough?
any idea how to make it look better? arrangement etc?
im not sure now, i kept getting errors. The only one I can get to work is if i use entities cards and get a list of numbers. But I cant figure out how to get graph cards to show instead
anyone from Edmonton Canada get Waste Collection Schedule working?
Combine related sensors into single graphs to reduce how many you have; show_state: true can be used to add an individual entity's state. decimals: 0 in the card will reduce the number of decimals shown. Moving away from the default Masonry layout style and using lovelace-layout-card can give some more flexibility of the placement and sizes of cards.
If you like the look of the little graphs in the 4x grid, consider yaml show: icon: false state: false
wait i gotta install the lovelace-layout-card? and use something like horizontal stack or vertical/
?
You'll still be able to use the stock cards; it's another option.
oh so it's 2 different type of cards?
i tried using just the horizontol stack but idk why its small any way i can make it wider?
i changed it back to the vertical stack but i gotta scroll abit to see the bottom ones
hmm anyone willing to give me a hance with Waste Collection Schedule.. this thing is giving me a hernia
So, I have four ecobee thermostats integrated in HA and visible on my dashboard using the default thermostat card. However, I see some strange behavior which I cannot explain.
Let’s say the temperature is currently set to 68F and I want to raise it to 70F. Regardless of which card I use, or how I adjust the slider, when I raise it to 70, it immediately slides back to 69.5 once I release the mouse. Now, when I go to adjust it again, it will only adjust to 69.7F and not 70. It’s like something is happening behind the scenes that I cannot explain. This happens when I use the sliders on the “arc” or when clicking the + or - button.
I wonder if this is something specific to ecobee thermostats, or is all thermostats integrated to HA act this way.
Whatever temp I try to set, let’s say I move it from 68F to 70F, it immediately jumps back to 69.5F, then when I try to move it again to 70F, it will set it to 70.2F. I don’t think it is a function of the card, as all cards (standard, mushroom, and others) have the same issue. If I change the temp on the thermostat itself, I don’t have the issue. It sets it correctly in HA and on the device.
Also, when adjusting the temperature in HA, how do you control the hold time. On the thermostat itself, when I manually adjust the temp it will ask me “Hold for 2 hours”, “Hold for 4 hours”, “Hold until next transition” or “Hold Indefinitely”. Adjusting via HA does not do that, so I am not sure what the default behavior is, and how I would override it.
Ultimately, I just want to be able to set my thermostat to XX.0 and XX.5 degrees and have it stay at the temperature I’ve selected, not change when I release the mouse or click off it. Any ideas what might be the issue?
Is there a known issue with the new and improved to-do list not allowing editing of the entries? If I click on an entry I get an edit window but it is grayed out so nothing can be changed
Nevermind - it works if you go into the 'to-do' section of the main menu. My problem occures in a list that is in a dashboard
Looks like the issue is with my original to-do list that existed in the olden days. Supposedly it was converted to a new to-do list but this is the second time that this older list has had issues. Lists created since multiple to-do lists could be created are working fine. I will make a new list and move all entries over.
How do I delete the original 'shopping list' to-do list. All other lists have a delete option if you click on the three dot icon in the top right corner but this list is missing the delete option
what's the right way to set a default global theme? 🙂
Call frontend.set_theme on HA startup seems like the only way
Is it possible to create a button card , telling me how many days remaining until garbage is going to be collected? Out from a google calender event ?
did you check my garbage card? It's using the HA calendar. I'm pretty sure you can add google calendar there too
Oh ok thanks
here is the template sensor I use to display the days left:
- sensor:
- name: Garbage Collection
state: >
{% set t = now() %}
{% set midnight = today_at() %}
{% set event = state_attr('calendar.garbage_collection', 'start_time') | as_datetime | as_local %}
{% set delta = event - midnight %}
{% if delta.days == 0 %}
0
{% elif delta.days == 1 %}
1
{% else %}
{{ delta.days }}
{% endif %}
Is there a way to remove the energy dashboard from the sidebar? It serves no purpose for me at the moment.
You can go to the user profile and select Edit Sidebar
Thanks!
So this states how many days its left until collection, but does it state what kind ?
I can do it with making 4 different calenders though. just hoping there was a way to use spesific names in the calender
It outputs days left until the next event in that calendar, nothing else
Thank you good sir 🙂 i will make good use of it!
well shit 😛
the sensor name is not surrounded by qoutes
should be 'sensor,garbage_matavfall' right?
did you check the sensor is working in dev tools?
yes indeed. its 3 days until collection, according to the sensor
i changed the name to your names, just to make sure i did not spell it wrong
i might try a reboot of HA?
hmm strange, that should not be needed. I usually only reload the configurations
try changing from counter: | to counter: >
as I have it
no change
it might actually be my template.. i will check again
the error message disapered, but no card comes up. i will restart
The error is asking for an entity field, nothing to do with the counter template
You are right @lyric prairie , i fixed it with setting the sensor inside the template file... not wanted but it worked.
I will search for the error, i probably put in the wrong path somewhere
ah ok it was looking for this identity
yeah.. my spelling was not on point there 😛 my bad
workes fine now 🙂
just need to find out why its not loading the fonts 🙂
quick question.... is the background color of the light theme supposed to be dark grey?
it should be a bit darker than the background if I remember correct. I have updated the theme myself so mine differs from the one on github
sorry misread...the background should be light, almost white
Hey there! Is it possible to define custom templates for cards? I have this uptime/hard drive monitor for a few of my services, and if I were to ever update it I would love to have to change the yaml only once (and not for every card of the 8 services). Is that easily possible?
necer mind good sir, i found the issue
If you use custom button card or build your dashboards in a code-editor you can
are you using the top theme? that does not support dark/light mode. It has two themes in it that you switch between. THe bottom one, created by another user, you can switch
https://github.com/fredrikpersson92/minihass/tree/main/theme
How would I do so? :)
Quick question:
This used to turn the icons of humidity battery etc different colors but doesnt anymore. Whats wrong?
I used the top one, and choose theme with your automation and button in header
Card-mod had an update with some syntax changes, check its' release notes
that worked, I hope?
can I do that with other cards as well? Or how would I use yaml anchors then?
i used minihass in the automation, and set the mode to dark og light, and did not work..
it does work if i use the bottom one though, but both themes (when i select then manually) gives a grey background color for some reason.
theres probably no way to define this sensor only once right?
Not that I'm aware of
Lovelace doesn't have variables or anything like that
Anyone know if decluttering-card works with entity rows? Got a custom entity row setup I'd like to reuse.
Alright, no worries. How would I best create my dashboard then? I'd like to use layout-card to make it responsive, so I'll need to define the whole dashboard in one HUGE yaml with every card in it right?
That's usually how it's done. There is stuff like https://github.com/thomasloven/hass-lovelace_gen but most people just manually build their config I think.
You can split your dash into separate files and use !include I guess
I'll be using the VSCode addon then to make it easier, thank you!
How would I then reuse the card I have defined (my custom uptime card) and overwrite the entity only? Is that possible with anchors?
If you want to reuse your cards, I'd suggest https://github.com/custom-cards/decluttering-card
It allows defining a card template and reusing it in different places with input variables
Turns out it does work for entity rows too 🎉
Anyone know of something like decluttering-card but with better variable support? Ideally it'd be closer to button-card's templating support (custom JS, overrides, etc)
does it allow the use of variables in jinja?
decluttering-card doesn't use Jinja
Ah right
It just replaces it anywhere it finds it I think
So it should do
Hmmm, is there maybe another way? Someone above said something about anchors for cards
Those don't let you replace values. decluttering-card should work for what you want as long as it's finding/replacing text.
Hey Guys, can anyone of you tell me how I can get the Mushroom entity card, vertical layout to look like this: Title on top, icon in the middle, secondary on the bottom:
Anyone know if it's possible to apply a style to a custom:layout-card ? I've tried using card_mod, but I'm either doing it wrong, or it's just not possible. I have to cards in my layout-card, but I want to apply a style to the layout-card itself. Been bothering me for days.
Hey there.
does somehave the same frontend problem after updating to newest version?
dont know how to fix this
clear your browser cache?
i did
restart ha and mac + safari
compinion app on iphone and mac also looks like this
some details are visible
what a joke xD
Problem solved!
i redownloaded the HACS integration mushroom.
thanks also for fast response
?
https://github.com/thomasloven/lovelace-card-mod/releases/tag/v3.4.1 Need to update to the new syntax
Legend this work thanks!
card-mod only works on cards that contain a ha-card element. This includes almost every card which can be seen, but not e.g. conditional, entity_filter, vertical-stack, horizontal-stack, grid.
Styling cards without an <ha-card> element
Cards that don't have a <ha-element> can still be styled by using the supplied custom:mod-card card.
@dusky haven It's possible... and I've used styled layout-cards for many years now. Adding background images, etc... However, the method I used is now deprecated and in need of a more current solution. My repo has examples of how this is done, but I'd highly recommend not going down that road. 😵💫 I'll tag you if you'd like once I get the code structure into the 2024 version
...but yes, definitely doable 🫡
I know, I was just hoping there was some kind of hack that would make it possible. I havn't tried the mod-card yet, but it looks like that's a possibility. I also need the style to respond to changes in entity states. Yea I know it's a tall order 🙂
Couldn't hurt. Go ahead and tag me.
I'm still looking for help with this... Is there a better place to post my question? Thanks!
Is your system consistently in F? Almost sounds like maybe it's doing multiple F->C->F conversions or something.
Just guessing.
Someone else suggested that, but everything is in F.
I might ignore the cards for the moment and just try some service calls. If you call climate.set_temperature 70, does ecobee respond with a different value?
Pull up developer-tools/state after the service call and see what the attributes of the climate entity are reporting.
If it does, than that's not a frontend thing and you would have to go dig into the ecobee integration to understand what it's doing.
If service calls work and the frontend cards don't, then open an issue on the frontend github to get help to triage further.
Does that give you enough of an idea what to look for next?
Yes, thanks a lot. I just need to figure out how to make a service call. I am new to HA but will use the search function 🙂
Wow, interesting. Works perfectly when I change the temp via script - the state updates correctly AND the card in the dashboard shows the new temp setting correctly.
How do I change the title and Icon of the dashboard?
I used the UI Minimalist dashboard as a base as I couldn't find where I could write my own in yaml in vscode
that looks correct. Did you refresh? reload the configuration?
even restarted home assistant and tried another browser
you will need to go to the minimalist configuration options to change those
sounds like not the way to do it then. How can I define my own dashboard using vscode then? (HA default yaml editor is nice and all, but I'm missing the "collapse" feature when writing a large dashboard)
never heard of, where's that?
That's because its a dashboard generated by the minimalist integration which runs a python script to change those values
Any other yaml oriented dashboard should be setup according the official HA docs
oh wow, I've never seen that haha
cheers
How can I define my own dashboard using vscode then
https://www.home-assistant.io/dashboards/dashboards/#adding-more-dashboards-with-yaml
anyone know how to ad a 3rd "if" into a scripty thing?
I have:
if () {}
else {}
But i want a else if () in the middle.. but i cant mange to get it working
Only the if and else is working for me:
if( variables.restavfall == "0")
else if( variables.restavfall == "1")
else
if(){}
else if(){}
else{}
should work fine, but it needs something to return
for some reason this doesn't really do anything sadly
yeah i have all that, i just did not want to paste the whole code 😛 but for osme reason its not
The contents of ui-lovelace.yaml should go into configuration.yaml
Without the template code I cannot guess what else can be the problem
its ok, i found the issue... spelling.. again hehe
I know Fredrik once tried to tell me to check for spelling issues hehe my bad
yes I think we need to set up an auto-reply for any messages coming from BerrisNo
"check your spelling"
once or twice 😂
i got it working though, out of 4 different calenders hehe
maybe this can help you. You can just place the new dashboard next to the old one.
is it possible to ask for confirmation before toggling a switch ? its the coffee maker and i dont want to start it by accident and do not want it to start without confirmation that there is water in it 🙂
big button card has an option for that: https://github.com/custom-cards/button-card?tab=readme-ov-file#confirmation
hmm but that is uggly and takes alot of space 🙂
no? what do you mean
this is how it looks now, and the big button is just a big button ... 🙂
I don't see a button
Hey, is there a way to deactivate the second query for deleting in the to-do list?
well that is how it looks now .. but there is no security in turning it on or off, while this is what i see when i make a "button" card...
takes up half the screen for something that feels quite stupid tbh 🙂 seen they have been requesting confirmation action on toggle switches for years 🙂
You can add a popup to turn it on
@hard blaze the toggle swith or the button ? i dont want the huge button 🙂
you can just put the button in your entities card then it will be small
humm ok how the heck do i do that? cant find how i do it 🙂 im kinda new to this thing 🙂
well... the huge button you can style yourself if you use a customization card, then use "more info" as a popup of you dont want it to togle if you "miss klick it" while scrolling
ignore me, i miss read your question, stefan is right 🙂
ok, so next then, what is a customization card? 🙂 something i have to write myself?
cant find anything on that 🙂
you don't need that
mushroom cards can also do it, if you prefer those. Example for my light:
type: custom:mushroom-light-card
entity: light.kamer_stefan_bureaulamp
tap_action:
confirmation: true
action: toggle
so many options 🙂
im sure there is, but lets start in the end of, what type of "card" do i add to the screen before i start customizing? 🙂
realy hard to get a grasp on this when im totaly new 🙂
ok, gonna research it some but now a tractor is here to lift my new compressor .. woohoo 🙂
There are some really good guides on youtube if you want ot check that out.
With custom-button card you can use that
struggling with a few custom:button-card variables here https://community.home-assistant.io/t/lovelace-button-card/65981/7077, do I really need that intermediary variable on the card background instead of using the global variable directly inside the gradient?
@quiet pilot this works fine for me:
lovelace-background: url('https://cataas.com/cat')
Why are you using /config/themes? That doesn't sound like the public path for the theme?
I've made a theme which is just:
test:
lovelace-background: center / cover no-repeat fixed url('https://cataas.com/cat')
And that works, so I'd say it's your image path.
is there any directory locally that the image path wont return an error for? i dont have a CDN for my image
You could put the background image in the config/www folder and it's exposed at /local/
type: custom:button-card
entity: switch.shellyplugkaffebryggaren
tap_action: toggle
show-name: true
name: Kaffe
confirmation:
text: Are you sure you want to restart?
icon: mdi:coffee-maker
state:
- value: 'on'
icon: mdi:coffee-maker-check
- value: 'off'
icon: mdi:coffee-maker
The icon changes if the state of the switch changes, but how can i toggle the switch from the button ? 🙂
thanks
What do you mean by toggle the switch from the button? Isn't that what tap_action: toggle is doing?
it doesnt change the state of the switch
So it shows the confirmation but then doesn't do anything?
i cant find a local directory at /, do i create one?
no, nothing happends at all
Can you toggle the switch normally? Like on the device page?
So the confirmation doesn't appear either?
@timber coyote if i switch it in another screen wher ei have a switch for it now the icon updates so it responds to the switch changing state..
No no confirmation or anything 🙂
No, it's an endpoint that's mapped to /config/www
Ah that tap_action doesn't look right
alright so what do i need to do to be able to display an image to the dashboard's background?
You can just remove tap_action, the default is already toggle.
then it shows the confirmation
Make a www folder in your configuration directory (next to configuration.yaml), put your image in there. Refer to it in your theme as /local/your-image-name-here
And does it toggle after showing the confirmation?
yes
So it's working now?
yup.. 🙂
thanks
but why doesnt it when i define the action myself? 🙂
https://github.com/custom-cards/button-card#main-options because you didn't specify it correctly
tap_action is an object, the correct format would be:
tap_action:
action: toggle
also would it be possible to only show the confirmation when toggling it from off to on ? 🙂
They definitely do
Doesn't seem like it's possible. Your easiest option might be to use the conditional card to swap between two buttons, one with the confirmation and one without.
Hey, how can i solve or are there any solutions that my home assistant dashboard doesnt always fully load on the first try of loading the page (most of the times on mobile apps android and ios but also sometimes the web) entire cards are missing then
Are they custom cards? Like from HACS
@timber coyote hmm that worked .. somewhat .. on the computer i see both cards all the time, on the phone it looks right.. wth 🙂
Post the YAML you're using? Have you tried reloading on the computer?
now it started working on the computer also ... after like 30 secs it updated and looks right
so i guess it needed reloading or something then 🙂
Were you in edit mode by chance? Conditional cards are always shown in edit mode.
might have been that 🙂
Using a glances card, I have lovelace showing that sunset is in "3 hours" - how can I get it display the actual time?
What sensor are you using for the sunset time?
sensor.sun_next_setting
type: glance
entities:
- entity: sensor.sun_next_setting
format: datetime
The possible formats are relative, total, date, time, datetime
Weird that it isn't documented
cool!! THanks @timber coyote didn't know that I can do that!
Neither did I until now 😂
It's documented for entities card, I guess glance shares a lot of infrastructure with that, guess it never got copied over 😕
good guess 😁
How can I add a custom style.css file to edit the lovelace dashboard?
I want to edit the whole dashboard so card-mod isn't an option
Hi.
I have custom:button-card to toggle my garage door.
The door gives open and close states, but is it possible to add "closing/opening" states from when i push the button and until its actually open by a sensor?
You'll probably want to create a template cover.
probably yes 😛 i will swap over to #templates-archived 🙂 ty
yes, sorry for the late reply
Anyone know if it is possible to use drop-shadow in an if statement for background-color of the simple-thermostat card? My current code makes the background orange...
card_mod: style: | ha-card { background-color: {% set status = state_attr('climate.living_room', 'hvac_action') %} {% if status == 'heating'%} orange {% endif %};
Is there a way to add the drop-shadow in there, something like this...
card_mod: style: | ha-card { background-color: {% set status = state_attr('climate.living_room', 'hvac_action') %} {% if status == 'heating'%} filter: drop-shadow(0px 0px 6px orange) {% endif %};
yey! Got it working .. took a while but 🙂
dont know what icon i should use for activating the timer but :p
good job! 😄
this wanst the easiest thing in the world .. never used yaml either 🙂
that table the dude uses too see the attributes etc, what is that and where do i find it? finding it realy hard to find what attributes things have 🙂
-> States
Hey! Is there a way to toggle a resource on/off? I am using magic-snowflakes to get snow falling on my dashboard and want a toggle for it.
https://hcodes.github.io/demo-snowflakes/
Hi, im using the fusion-ha addon for my tablet. It is great. But is there a way to hide sidebar and top bar? I can't use kiosk mode because of it being an add-on right?
if you use google, you can search for alternative kiosk mode or someting... there is something you can do in the theme, i just dont remember the code
or where i found it
With browser_mod you can also hide those
so, i have an entity card that shows the used power from my relays and plugs .. it shows an flash icon at the side, so the entity is sensor.shellyplugkaffebryggaren_energy but it also has an entity called binary_sensor.shellyplugdiskmaskin_overpowering that i would like to use to indicate with the icon if its in over power mode or not .. is that possible? 🙂
now the names match .. i copied the wrong entity on the last one but should be kaffebryggaren_overpowering 🙂
entity: sensor.shellyplugkaffebryggaren_energy
type: custom:secondaryinfo-entity-row
secondary_info: Momentan effekt [[ sensor.shellyplugkaffebryggaren_power ]] W
is the card code
I've added the following into my configuration.yaml file but it still reset the radius of zone.home to 100 after a couple of hours, does anyone see what I did wrong?
zone:
- name: Home
latitude: 52.04112987193958
longitude: 5.645588997107145
radius: 18
icon: mdi:home
I've used this; https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/zone/#home-zone.
Kiosk-mode it not an add-on, its a javascript plugin resource. Not sure if that helps you?
Yeah i know . But fusion was :). But I think I can make it work with browser mod
Thanks for the help
cool. if anything, if you can do it with Kiosk-mode, that would be the preferred way imho, it is much lighter on the system
can i round those values somehow? 🙂
entity: sensor.shellyplugdiskmaskin_power
type: custom:secondaryinfo-entity-row
name: Diskmaskin
secondary_info: Total effekt [[ sensor.shellyplugdiskmaskin_energy ]] KWh
Has anyone else any issues with the default climate card?
it no longer shows the "red glow" when the "Moes" thermostat panel is ON/Heating
mdi:exclamation-thick suddenly stopped appearing. mdi:exclamation still works. Weird?
Well, it works as an icon in Settings/Dashboards. But it doesn't show up in a lovelace button-card.
And now it does work. Argh.
@late anvil I am a bit confused by the frontend. I down loaded "button-card by @late anvil" from HACS and it says to install:
- Make sure the HACS component is installed and working.
- Search for button-card and add it through HACS
- Add the configuration to your ui-lovelace.yaml
resources:
- url: /hacsfiles/button-card/button-card.js
type: module
- Refresh home-assistant.
I downloaded it, but I don't find "ui-lovelace.yaml" anywhere.
I though Lovelace was the UI that installed with HA. Do I have to install that? What am I doing wrong?
don't do that last part. HACS will handle it for you
just do 1 & 2 + clear your browser cache
That's where I think I'm at now. When I add a "custom: Button-Card" to the display, there is nothing in it to configure.
clear your browser cache
and, I don't think it supports the UI editor, so you'll be doing everything in YAML
Cleared Cache, also tried another browser. No help. The pic is what I get. So I have to configure in YAML?
that's normal; that's what RobC said. next line: entity: light.name_of_a_light
Thanks, I really appreciate it. I still a bit new at this. I think I have it.
Does anybody know what could cause an iframe webpage loading error?
Web page not available
The web page at https://www.hellofresh.de/recipes/search?q=test could not be loaded because:
net::ERR_BLOCKED_BY_RESPONSE
Go through the doc to understand the syntax. To start, I suggest working with the Main Options before moving on to State and Style Options. Using JavaScript Templates and Configuration Templates can really unlock what you can do with the card.
Lots of examples here. Scroll through focusing on the pictures, find something that catches your eye, and then look at the code to figure out how the user accomplished it.
The custom:button-card is a very useful card, but the amount of customizability can be overwhelming. I primarily use this card on my dashboard. In fact, I've mentioned custom:button-card about 290 times in this channel. Bunch of code and screenshots if you search.
Is your dashboard running on HTTP or HTTPS? IIRC, if you're running on HTTP, you cannot use a HTTPS iframe. (Not sure if this is your issue, but think I've seen it mentioned more than a couple of times.)
hellofresh blocks it.
Yes, my dashboard is running http.
Hmmm, last time I checked, getting HA to run on https was tricky. Maybe it is simpler now that I am running as docker.
don't think it's http/https
Oh no 😦
Is there a different option to display a webpage?
(other than iframe)
It seems like the majority of websites out there block iframe...
According to iframetester, other sites like chefkoch.de also block it
Thanks again. I got a light button to work. I did go over the docs a bit, but I located some code for a light and started with that. I just didn't realize I was supposed to type the code in that line of the button card. Like I said, I am a bit new at this.
why let anyone else get a share of your sweet, sweet advertising pixels
I tried Google, Amazon, Github, Reddit, Plex, Weather.com, and Windy all blocked. 👎 https://www.home-assistant.io works though. 😎
you're a frontend wizard. any ideas how else a website could be displayed in a dashboard?
as far as I understand supposedly the restriction is implemented client side, so maybe there's some ugly hacky browser plugin you can install that would let you bypass it. 🙈
hmmmm, sound like a job for another "Thomas Løven to the dashboard rescue" cards 🤣
Is it possible to sett target resolution when using cast.show_lovelace_view to cast to chromecast device
im trying to fix another issue and noticed in the browser console that there are a few errors. I have been removing my old JS files and resources from the config. But I am still getting these errors, is anyone able to point me where to fix them or why they are coming up?
The login page is blank on iOS with lockdown mode enabled
Disabling lockdown mode for the page in Safari solves the problem there, but that doesn’t fix the app
What's lockdown mode?
Seems to be working after updating from 2023.11
I saw this online
How can I make that meter thingy colorful
Like the speedometer thingy on the right side, tryna make the same thing but colorful, mine is the default blue one currently
ah sorry 🙂
this really cool thank you
how do i make it show continously thou?
also how do i decide the numbers on what should be red yellow green?
is there a proper way to do that
i just copied pasted the code back
his one looks really vibrant
type: gauge
entity: sensor.synologya_cpu_utilization_total
needle: true
severity:
green: 0
yellow: 40
red: 85
is this oke?
There's a forum topic on that. Someone made a generator to create a severity with lots and lots of levels with defined color.
oh thats epic can you link me or what keyword should i try
are u the one who made the cards or something btw? ur name is same or similar
@golden mirage I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
sounds like ur being modest or thats an understatement anyways thats pretty cool dude im just starting out
i have 0 idea or clue on designs and aesthetics so pretty clueless in designing the dashboard
or the ui
its all over the place
I have simple 😄
thank you found it
can someone share which one looks better?
with needle and without and the middle one is using the generator
btw what u think of the needle gauge above which is better with or without?
i has try with gauge but ít only look good when at large size
i see
trying to decide with or without needle
thank you for introducing to the segment generator thingy
i think needle is better
oke thank you
can i change color of the icon ? according to temp or any better way to display this?
I actually did make the needle gauge... based on the most awesome specification of requirements:
lmaooo thats pretty cool stil thou freakinnn epic
my life is all black and white and dull idk how to decide colors
i'm making this for the non tech users so colors is easier for them
Without. It's not a racing car.... 😅
if someone can tell a better way to display this also i would appreaciate
u got a fair point too
what about the wake on lan page any better ways to display it?
u guys are geniuses in choosing colors
right now all is default lol
Can you turn on and off these devices just by the switch? If so, how did you make that work? I'm trying to do the same thing
its just wake on lan off i think you gotta experiment with rpc shutdown i haven't tried that the wake on lan someone helped me
i gotta enable wake on lan first only uses ethernet to these pc
gotta enable in bios and control panel
for windows i got a script powershell that can do it automatically for me
wait let me share it
@silent wind I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
save that as a powershell file ends with .ps1
once u run that
u might need to do this
Set-ExecutionPolicy -ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned -Scope CurrentUser
in powershell as admin it changes the execution policy
also don't forget to enale it in bios
after that in the home assistant part i did this in my configuration.yaml
@silent wind I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
u can keep adding on as many pc etc
then restart it
apologies if some steps are wrong just sharing what worked for me
tried pasting the segment color code here it doesn't recognize it sadly
you can try with card_mod
i think i got that installed but idk how to use it,its from the hacs thingy right?
i dont mind to show it in a different way either
can you share how to do this
ayyyyy its that guy
in discord
same dude
i got it i think
which card you using in there
the default that popped up

i made a new card to test it but idk why my colors aren't appearing
Visual editor is not supported for this configuration:

The provided value for 'entities.0' is not supported by the visual editor. We support (string) but received ({"entity":"sensor.synologya_drive_1_temperature","card_mod":{"style":":host {\n --paper-item-icon-color: red;\n}"}}).
Key 'entities.1.card_mod' is not expected or not supported by the visual editor.
The provided value for 'entities.1' is not supported by the visual editor. We support (string) but received ({"entity":"sensor.synologya_drive_2_temperature","card_mod":{"style":":host {\n --paper-item-icon-color: blue;\n}"}}).
Key 'entities.2.card_mod' is not expected or not supported by the visual editor.
The provided value for 'entities.2' is not supported by the visual editor. We support (string) but received ({"entity":"sensor.synologya_drive_3_temperature","card_mod":{"style":":host {\n --paper-item-icon-color: green;"}}).
You can still edit your config in YAML.
i dont know 😄
@silent wind I have a couple of examples you can look at on my GitHub. https://github.com/dsellers1/home-assistant#card-modding-an-entities-cards-icon-and-icon-color
I use --card-mod-icon-color.
@lyric nymph I converted your message into a file since it's above 15 lines :+1:
I use the custom:mini-graph-card to show different temperatures. Now the graph seems too straight (back to the right in the screenshot), and when looking at the entity graph (HA GUI to the left) it seems to have more variations than the custom:mini-graph-card . What could be wrong?
type: custom:mini-graph-card
name: Endringer, peistemperaturer
hours_to_show: 2
points_per_hour: 0.25
line_width: 0.75
show:
icon: false
state: true
fill: false
entities:
- entity: sensor.temp_peis_temperature
name: Faktisk peistemperatur
show_graph: false
show_line: false
- entity: sensor.peis_temperature_change_per_30_minutes
name: Endring pr. 30 min.
- entity: sensor.peis_temperature_change_per_10_minutes
name: Endring pr. 10 min.
- entity: sensor.peis_tempdiff_change_per_5_minutes
name: Peistemperatur-endring 5 min.
show_state: true
The mini-graph-card has an option for smoothing which the default is true.
Whether to make graph line smooth.
Maybe try setting it to false and see what happens.
the strangest behavor is it shows fine when designing it, but turns flat in the HA GUI
I'm having some problem with custom cards. I've written:
type: custom:button-card
square: false
Obviously that doesn't do anything yet. But I'm getting this error:
Custom element not found: btton-card```
It's like it doesn't see the u in button and I've had this with "card" as well
Well that cleared itself now
Hi, i want to do different instead equal. what is the operator : [[[ if (states["sensor.iphone_53_connection_type"].state == 'Wi-Fi') return "#aaaaaa"; ]]]
!= is the opposite of ==
I want to show my zone in my lovelace card but i always get undefined. That my syntax is correct : return `<ha-icon icon="mdi:car" style="width: 20px; height: 20px; color: #888888;"> </ha-icon> <span>\<span style="color: var(--text-color-sensor);">${states['sensor.iphone_53_geocoded_location'].attributes.zones}</span></span>
What does sensor.iphone_53_geocoded_location show in devtools->states?
states show my adress
it really has zones as an attribute? not zone?
Yes : Time Zone: America/Toronto
Zones: Maison
icon: mdi:map
friendly_name: iPhone (53) Geocoded Location
Is it possible i can't show that value in a lovelace ?
try stepping through in browser debugger?
Everything should be part of the hass.states object.
Ok and there is a way in devtools to retrieve all attributes info or something like this ?
Instead using states tabs
hmm devtools->states shows all the attributes of the entity.
I would just find your card in browser debugger and set a breakpoint, and inspect what you've got to work with
I found the element in debugger : <span style="color: var(--text-color-sensor);">undefined</span>
Is it possible to do a virtual sensor with that attribute on it ?
What I mean is to set a breakpoint on that return line, then when you are there, check in the console the value of:
statesstates['sensor.iphone_53_geocoded_location']states['sensor.iphone_53_geocoded_location'].attributes
etc
oh ok ok
see what is defined and what is not
Sorry i try but im not sure i understand how.. There is a simple way like create virtual sensor
The simple way is not to try to write your own cards, unless you want to spend the time investment to learn how to use the language and tools.
You're sure you couldn't use a stock card, or a HACS card developed by someone else? If you just want to show an attribute on your dashboard there are many ways short of writing your own JS modules.
THe problem i was using a custom:button-card to do a person presence lovelace. Some people use it also. Before i was using life 360 integration and on the device tracker i had all the info needed and they work perfectly. Now im trying to swith to use home assistant companion and the sensor provide to change my output variable in my lovelace card. I was able to add batterye level, wifi. Only remain is that zone thing !
im guessing this is a theme of some sort? im thinking of the cards and titles on them .. anyone know what and how? 🙂
is there a file that I can edit to edit the yaml of cards in the frontend? I know I can do it in the browser, I am trying to work on a markdown card with html and i would much rather use vscode.
Are you familiar with YAML mode for dashboards? You'll lose the ability to edit in the UI by converting a dash to YAML though.
yes. I generally like using the UI. Its just for one or 2 pages I want direct yaml. I guess I can make a new dashboard that is yaml and when I am done setting it up (using vscode etc..) copy it back into place in the "normal" dashboard.
https://www.home-assistant.io/dashboards/dashboards/
You can also add YAML dashboards when your main dashboard is UI configured:
lovelace:
mode: storage
# Add yaml dashboards
dashboards:
lovelace-yaml:
mode: yaml
title: YAML
icon: mdi:script
show_in_sidebar: true
filename: dashboards.yaml```
thank you for sharing let me take a look
I actually tried that, and I am getting stuck. It shows up in the sidebar but it is pre-filled and when I go to menu and try to "take control" I get an error box Saving failed: Not supported
