I'm happy

cunning onyx

that meeting is my angry hour.

umbral cliff
#

The cyber sec part of GRC, the more interesting shit

glacial knot
#

ah. Our security team has competent people πŸ˜‚

cunning onyx
#

The kind of security "engineers" who can't explain public/private key encryption

glacial knot
#

at least I only talk to those^^

umbral cliff
cunning onyx
#

the kind of security engineers who are like "I've been wanting to try out linux!"

#

shoots self in brain

glacial knot
#

I can't explain the specifics of how ECC or RSA function either. I just know how to use them

cunning onyx
#

it's enraging to deal with them.

#

you have to explain everything ten times.

#

and then next week it's like they get brain wiped and you have to re-explain everything.

umbral cliff
glacial knot
#

reset to factory defaults helps becuase they can't leak any of your vulnerabilities

umbral cliff
#

What if they forget the exploited vulnerabilities too

glacial knot
#

well, RSA is easy since iirc. it's just modulo and exponentiation in practice. I just don't care about it enough to remember

cunning onyx
#

They only see the spreadsheets that the parent company hands them

#

or the "security scorecard report"

#

meanwhile there's NTML exposed to the internet and they do nothing.

umbral cliff
cunning onyx
#

but HSTS isn't turn on for this URL!
Thanks an API...

#

Yes, there are no http headers because there is no http...

#

"Well it needs to have HSTS turned on"

clear ferry
#

API me like one of your french girls

umbral cliff
#

Are you sure your company hired security personnel and not trained monkeys in a suit

glacial knot
#

for ECC I know that it's based on discrete logarithm. But that's about it
I do care more about generalized group theory than specific operations

cunning onyx
#

They couldn't afford trained monkeys, you know how much that training costs!?

umbral cliff
#

Okay untrained monkeys in a fancy suit then πŸ˜‚

cunning onyx
#

instead they hired some boxes of rocks in skinsuits.

#

You can really hear those rocks clacking around in there! They must be good!

glacial knot
#

and probably pay them well. Security engineer is better paid than average software engineer

umbral cliff
glacial knot
#

jup. Never needed the detail outside a lecture either way

#

and there we just used it to show why the padding is relevant and how to attack RSA done "correct" without padding scheme

cunning onyx
glacial knot
#

oh I know people that make more than they deserve by the simple fact that they are paid πŸ˜‚

cunning onyx

hushed basalt
#

These captchas are just for training ML anyways

#

It's why Google doesn't do the 2 words captcha anymore

orchid rose
#

Is that true btw or just urban legend? I never bothered to look into it

hushed basalt
#

One word was known and one word was unknown, and they used captcha to get humans to classify the unknown word

#

Now their OCR is good enough they are making you click on...

#

Stop signs. Cross walks. Buses. Bikes...

#

What sort of Google tech could find that training useful

kind jewel
#

I have not been able to find instructions for posting some code snippets here. When I post they get sent to Hastebin site. Appreciate any help.

Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:

Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.

Thank you very much. SO I suppose I would add a link to that site in my message ?

static schooner

I stopped bothering with a detector when I got a ticket based on a laser that caused the detector to spring to life when it was already too late. That was in the mid-2000s

#

the only thing that it seemed to offer is an indication that you haven't been caught, but even that seemed hit-or-miss, depending on the detection method

clever mortar
#

Average speed cameras are becoming more common here, where you've basically got a number of cameras along a stretch and your picture is taken and timestamped at each, and then the system works out your average speed between cameras. Detectors don't help with those.

I always thought the "speed limit enforced by aircraft" or similar was a bit excessive

I've never seen an indoor tank in a house

young sigil
# forest edge you outbackers just sit the tank outside to bake in the sun huh?

In the cooler parts of Aus this used to be the case. New builds are indoors now and a lot of older installations have retro-fitted insulated enclosures. Heat pump HW for the win. With a little automation to limit the heat exchanger inlet to outlet differential (for efficiency) and a Legionella pogrom once a week I'm down to about 1.8kWh per day for hot water. And that is done in the middle of the day when there's plenty of solar power. So essentially free hot water.

you can use environment variables inline

sudo dc up -d

cold marlin

sudo dc restart homeassistant

clear ferry

but just add your user to the docker group

#

if you want to use stuff inline with aliases you could do aliashere $envvariable1 $envvariable2

#

yes

#

sudo usermod -aG docker $USER

cold marlin
#

pretty sure everything i did is owned by root D:

clear ferry
#

then log back in

#

that doesn't matter

#

but you should change your docker folders to be group owned by the docker group imo

#

then make it inheritable

#

sudo chgrp -R docker /path/to/docker/persistent/volumes

sudo chmod g+s /path/to/docker/persistent/volumes

the guys in the video were really impressed with how well the ev was able to tow it, but that ambient noise, no damn way I would tolerate that lol
