Vote for whoever aligns closer with your views

distant jewel
#

Voted for Macron instead of far-right extremist Le Penn

#

with number can't they count from 2nd onwards?

umbral cliff
#

Your number 1 still gets money from your vote

distant jewel
umbral cliff
#

What?

#

If you mark anything other than 1 to X on your ballot paper it’s counted as invalid and ignored

distant jewel
young sigil
#

But you just wasted your vote.

umbral cliff
#

Correct. You can also just make up an excuse to them and they’ll accept it and you don’t waste your time either

#

Hell request a postal vote and say “oh I sent it” when they ask and you won’t get fined

glacial knot
#

takes me about as much time as voting in person o.0
though that's because I live in sight distance of the polling station

distant jewel
young sigil
#

Well that's good.

distant jewel
clear ferry
#

Reminds me of my MIL, just doesn't respond to customer satisfaction surveys when she isn't happy with a vendor

#

that'll show them

distant jewel
#

Why you are allowed to take a photo of your vote?

#

At least your vote should be secret.

young sigil
hushed basalt
#

There's a difference between private and secret

#

Or secrecy and secret

#

Basically. You can tell or show anyone who you voted for

glacial knot
#

no

#

sane secret vote systems explicitly prevent that

hushed basalt
#

But you can't attempt to reveal or coerce the reveal of someone else's vote

#

Why

#

Australia has been carrying on like this fine since Federation without problem

#

I think you're imagining problems

#

At least we don't have those crazy electronic voting machines

umbral cliff
#

The people counting your vote don’t know who you voted for

umbral cliff
hushed basalt
#

NSW is also the most corrupt state in Aus

umbral cliff
#

Lmao

hushed basalt
#

So it tracks

#

But if someone wants to walk me through a hypothetical of how taking a photo of a piece of paper in your private booth will lead to the downfall of democracy be my guest

glacial knot
umbral cliff
#

What?

hushed basalt
#

I don't follow

hushed basalt
glacial knot
#

various protections manifest in a ban of doing something voluntarily to prevent coercion. Talking about who you voted for is fine. Providing proof is prohibited to prevent coercion.

hushed basalt
#

I've never seen or heard any instance of that happening here, and I doubt anyone I would ask would say anything differently

#

I mean people who post photos are just attention seeking/needy,

#

I don't think I've actually come across any photos that weren't invalid votes

low harness
low harness
glacial knot
#

works the same for employee protection
I'm allowed to work overtime, but only within limits. Going over will have legal implications for me, my direct supervisor and the company as a whole
while that is annoying to some degree, it makes sure that nobody in their right mind would ignore the protections. On any position

#

express stated goal there: combat "voluntary" excessive overtime by company culture and/or promotion paths depending on it

forest edge
#

did i read above that you all have to pay to vote? or was that a reference to a fine?

static schooner
#

Compulsory voting for national elections was introduced in Australia in 1924, following a pronounced fall in turnout at the 1922 federal election.

clear ferry
#

we have right under 80% turnout mostly

#

which is quite good

low harness
#

80-90 % in Sweden. Election day always being a sunday and providing free busses or taxis for people who can't get there by themselves probably helps.

forest edge
static schooner

it would be epic

there is already so much complaining about people having problems being able to vote.. it be chaos lol

55% for Sweden, 40% for Finland, yikes

Norway isn't eligible since they are an EU colony

low harness

Yeah... that's bad

finite atlas
clear ferry

We are sane you see

#

Economically independent

#

still need to abide by stupid EU rules though through EEA

finite atlas

imo norway did it right with not joining the eu, less stupid rules they have to follow

low harness
#

Whenever anyone says that I run off to google to find stupid Norwegian laws and always come up disappointed.

#

I mean, there are lists, but all of them make perfect sense or are the same in Sweden.

clear ferry

Yes

#

we are quite sensible people

low harness

It's illegal to read your spouses text messages. Ha! Silly norwegians and their propensity for perfectly reasonable personal boundaries!

#

You can't leave your car by the roadside without marking it with a reflective triangle. Well, duh! Have you been to Northern Europe in the winter? Finding an invisible car on the road is one of my nightmares.

clear ferry
#

You mean in perpetual darkness of winter

low harness
#

It's illegal to die in Longyearbyen. At least that's something.

clear ferry
#

Well

#

It is illegal to die on Svalbard

#

not just Longyearbyen

glacial knot
#

it's illegal to die in quite a couple of places

I bought the OVs of SpyxFamily. They are fully furigana, which makes it pretty comfy

because you only consume kids shows 😂

clear ferry

At first I read futanari

#

That was wrong

glacial knot

you ignored me calling Katakana Katana and then that 😄

#

I've been reading half german for 20 years now

#

because there is a german dwarf that is married to a norwegian cartoon character

clear ferry
#

So, since insurance is totalling my car, I'm guessing I'm gonna buy an EV

glacial knot
#

is that your secondary?

clear ferry
#

Yes

glacial knot
#

Polestar next?

clear ferry
#

Probably not

#

Leaf is the likely candidate now

#

2019\2020

#

Since it will only be used 1-2 days a week, for medium commute to train and or capitol

glacial knot
#

isn't that tiny?

clear ferry
#

It only needs to fit 1 or 2 people, or 1 person and a kidseat

#

The eUP! was too small

#

the ID.3 and the eGOLF are too expensive

glacial knot
#

do they at least have mroe range then?

clear ferry
#

The eGOLF is either 200\300km, the ID.3 is 420km, the Leaf is 385km, the eUP! is 220km

#

all in summer

#

the Leaf also starts at 60% of the price of the ID.3

#

eUP! was €13k, eGolf starts at €22k, fully specced leaf is at €28k and ID.3 is €35k+

glacial knot
#

that eGOLF range his horrible o.0

clear ferry
#

The New eGolf is 300 in summer

#

but only 200 in winter

#

which is, just not good enough

#

The leaf is 385\280 respectivly

#

the ID3 is 420\320

#

and the eUP! is 220\140

#

according to the tests I've seen

#

So, leaf is almost as good in range, as good space, much better price and has a better track record

#

better in all regards

#

Question is, is it good to drive

glacial knot
#

how much power does the leaf have? 90ish HP?

clear ferry
#

215bhp

#

340nm

glacial knot
#

uhh, fun

clear ferry
#

Eh, it'll be a slowpoke compared to the XC90

glacial knot
#

for anything <100kph? probably not by much

clear ferry
#

The XC90 does 0-100 in 5.6seconds, the leaf does it in 7.3, not that much different tbh

#

I was expecting 9seconds

static schooner

No excuse for electric cars not to be much faster

clear ferry

The EV6 was interesting

#

but fuck is it expensive

#

€65k after subsidies

glacial knot
#

If you don’t get the GT version, you’ve got a 0-to-100 km/h time of just 5.2 seconds (long-range option) or 6.2 seconds (standard-range version).
The 5.2 should be the 168kWh variant

Home Assistant automatically switches the lights on and off based on nearby devices and the position of the sun.

It is currently able to do the following things:

 * Clone the repository `git clone https://github.com/balloob/home-assistant.git`.
 * Copy home-assistant.conf.default to home-assistant.conf and adjust the config values to match your setup.
   * For Tomato you will have to not only setup your host, username and password but also a http_id. The http_id can be retrieved by going to the admin console of your router, view the source of any of the pages and search for `http_id`.
 * Setup PHue by running `python -m phue --host HUE_BRIDGE_IP_ADDRESS` from the commandline.
 * The first time the script will start it will create a file called `tomato_known_devices.csv` which will contain the detected devices. Adjust the track variable for the devices you want the script to act on and restart the script.

umbral cliff
#

Since PT & walking & biking is cheap compared to cars

forest edge
umbral cliff
#

Yes that’s consumer uptake, not the point of EVs entirely

#

You need consumer uptake

#

Because those who can afford a new car then Onsell and you have people who aren’t as rich affording a second hand car

forest edge
#

it's just proof that the majority of people aren't asking for EV's

#

they are buying them to save on cost in other areas.. in norway at least

umbral cliff
#

You say that, yet why would they be popular in places without subsidies then

#

The cost that’s not going away is petrol

#

So of course people would save on that

#

Also the whole charge at home with your own solar

forest edge
#

well the question I posted above is your answer

#

so in countries where the goverment dosen't make EV be a no brainer, people buy petro instead for the majority

umbral cliff

Solely on petrol savings

you sure about that?

From what i've heard from some other cities electric busses is, that they are putting NMC (pretty violent chemisty) cells on top of their busses, without cell level fusing and just enough cooling for when in use, but not enough if one cell decides to commit suicide.
So when one shorts itself, it may short the others too, causing a chain reaction that cant be cooled. pikachu surprise face

Jesus, I'd forgotten about that one....When I had my electrician do some work on something, he found that the clowns that put an aircon in (ducted system) had used one feed of a 3-phase system to carry 25amps. Apparently, I had melted BP connectors and sloughed insulation. It's bloody lucky I didn't have a fire. They are out of business so wasn't worth pursuing. My sparky ran brand new feeds to the ducted system (both units) and the split system as he found they had jumpered the split system from a powerpoint below it. I'm very lucky and have an excellent aircon company that looks after mine now.

fallow glen
# umbral cliff Like I wanna make something that utilises an esp chip, is there anything that ne...

Well, pretty much...It just depends on a few things.. Analog inputs are usually only 1, digital - a handful. Built in wifi is excellent to use, I usually buy the ESP-01N chips which are specialty but are pin for pin compatible with the Grid Connect crap that Bunnings sells. I just reprogram them and desolder the old one, solder this in and Bingo - a grid connect device that no-longer relies on the cloud

#

For most other things, I just buy some knock-off D1-Minis and use those

umbral cliff
#

Yeah was thinking of just testing our custom circuit board development by doing something involving a ESP

fallow glen
#

I started with D1-Minis. Don't buy them from Jaycar, they are 20-30 bucks a pop. Order from China

#

They are great for prototyping plug in, blow it up, plug another one in.

#

Only downside is pins ONLY will take 3.3v not 5 so you have to be careful

umbral cliff
#

Yeah just wanna try doing the circuit board part too. Since seems interesting

#

I have no clue how the fuck to design a circuit board, so really wanna muck around and try some lol

fallow glen
#

Yeh...it's fun.....Until you hook up a feedback of 5v to the gpio pin accidentally and then you throw it away and put in a new one 🙂

#

The only downside is etching at home.....I hate it. Chemicals everywhere, yadda yadda.... It's ok for mucking about but eventually I would order some made. But I have to learn Eagle or similar design software first.

#

I generally buy little mini-solderable breadboard layout PCBs and jumper them myself

umbral cliff
#

Yeah would be ordering from China. Fuck doing it at home

that article states "way hotter" but a properly vented attic will only be 10-15degree's hotter than the outside during summer

Our roof gets to 60 in summer (on a 30-35° day)

type of roof and ventilation also plays a part

We're not talking about 5% here

Also btw I tried running the split system at my apartment to check for heating, over 1 hour the temperature in the room went up 0.5°, the electric radiator increased it by 2°

hushed basalt
#

We're talking like doubling costs having handler and ducts outside the thermal envelope

least that way if you end up getting caught in the middle you can tell the police you heard it was bad from someone online but you never would have imagined it being true

My only issue now, flights are too crowded

forest edge
#

feel like a sardine in business class do you?

#

you poor thing, maybe you should opt to ride in the cargo hold

tidal bronze
#

Forget business same on first. Just that first time fliers just makes me go hmmmm

#

Was in North Dakota earlier this week. Welp that was fun. Lmao

forest edge
#

why because people get scared being in a tin tube flying hundreds of feet in the air?

tidal bronze

Actually it's about carry on luggage and that epic game of will it fit ? 😆

umbral cliff
tidal bronze
#

Same here but it's just funny and annoying to watch. Specially when 1st class suffers.

forest edge
#

f first class.. bastards need to have people's crotches shoved in their faces

umbral cliff
#

You can fly first class without being rich. Either have the company pay for it, or frequent flyer points

#

I flew business class last week to Melbourne (our domestic business is basically the same as your domestic first)

forest edge
#

then you'll get to experience the fats dude's ball sack rubbing on your face as he tries and puts something in the overhead compartment like all the other yuppies

umbral cliff
#

Never had that but I’m not going to kinkshame

tidal bronze
#

I would never pay for first. I always get upgraded to 1st. Trying to hit 6million soon diamond status for life. Then I am going to slow down on flying.

forest edge
#

upgraded to yuppie huh

#

i would eat nothing but beans for like 6 hours before boarding

#

no more than 10 minutes after take off the pilots would be trying to break the windshield for fresh air

tidal bronze
#

Lmao. 6k seat for $600 always, not bad at all.

forest edge
#

screw that

#

who the hell actually pays 6k a seat

#

must be a crypto investor thing

tidal bronze
#

Well 80% of 1st class is paid for. So lot of people. 😆

#

Forget the 6k. There is an exclusive tier in my airline for people that spend over $250k/year. 🤣

forest edge
#

shit better be something like that scene in Ironman where the hot flight attendants stripped down and swung around a pole

tidal bronze
#

I would take Alexander Valley cabernet over that.

The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers

Clearly you don't know much at all about Americans or America @clear ferry, and as an American I can confidently say that we don't either, we stopped funding the education system a long while ago.

I'm basic education, but the primary, secondary school education here is quite comprehensive

#

I only have vocational high school

hushed basalt
#

Same I barely passed highschool

cunning onyx

I'm technically a high school dropout who got a high school degree at night school cause they tried to screw me over due to having a freakin' full time job in the IT industry at 16.

See? There was no reason to add "Technically" to that sentence, thanks public schools.

clear ferry
#

Lulz

#

I'm still confident enough to try to communicate in 8 or so languages, I consume information about other countries regularly and I'm leading in my field

#

Education isn't everything

clear ferry
#

But it helps to have a basic one

cunning onyx
#

I remember reading the history books in school and being like "But I know that's not true"

#

what a waste of time that was

clear ferry
#

Lol

#

What

cunning onyx
#

thank goodness I taught myself to code at night and slept through class for most of high school.

clear ferry
#

I slept through my one year of college

cunning onyx
#

I had a math teaching in high school, I'd always sleep through her class, never do any homework, always got one of the highest grades in the class on tests. So one day she passes out the tests and gives me mine last, then sits on the desk in front of me and folds her arms. So I'm like "You think I'm cheating, that's fair." and proceed to spend the first 15 minutes of the 45 minute period going between the first few questions reverse engineering what it took the rest of the class the week to learn, then I finished the test and got one of the highest grades in the class. Afterwards she talked to me and said If I just did the homework I'd easily get an A instead of a C, and I told her I was spending my time teaching myself to code and doing the homework was a waste of time that wouldn't build me a future career. After that she would make fun of me if I was actually awake in her class.

clear ferry
#

It's quite strange how we can get good grades in similar classes but not the other ones

#

I've always been one grade away from flunk in math

#

But I was ridiculously good at chemistry

#

And physics

#

Which are both math based

#

As in, I got a B without ever buying the book or studying, just doing the required hand ins

glacial knot
#

school maths is easy though

clear ferry
#

I was never good at them

#

Got a 4 in secondary school

glacial knot
#

do you have the same 1-6 we got?

clear ferry
#

And a E in high school vocational math

#

Which is simplified

#

We had 1-6 in primary and secondary

#

And A to F in higher

#

I flunked college math even if I got B in chemistry and physics

glacial knot
#

University math was fun

#

but mostly tedious

cunning onyx
#

I always wanted to learn more math, I seem to be very good at it, but math doesn't make money, unix makes money.

IT security, the kind who have six people but can't get fireeye or splunk to work, and it's been years. The kind who literally don't do anything but foward emails and vulnerability scans to the infrastructure team, the kind who can't even run their own meeting, or make their own spreadsheets, so the infrastructure manager runs the vulnerability meeting and generates the spreadsheet.
