I can't even upload pics also
People have lived

Also yes to prevent people posting code as an image . You can upload to imgur if you want
Post your issues in general and someone will help when they have time
Best to ask in the support channels and then wait for someone who has the knowledge and time.
Good movie
Okay? Unsure what relevance that has
Darren wanting priority support
Too bad the SLA is 365 days
Who lessened it? Why was I not informed! đ
I aim for 99% downtime
@clear ferry Cake or I will call your ISP and limit your internet to 36kbs
No, don't force me to normal American internet speeds, and 200kb maximum transferred per month
oh yes
At least it would be considered Australian broadband
Hey weâre faster, and donât have data caps either
We used to have them years ago, doubt anyone would accept it anymore (plus so many ISPs even if some do it others wouldnât)
What? No monopoly on internet per area with price fixing ? How dare you call yourself little America
One thing the NBN did well, pushed infrastructure to be public so all the private companies can use it and do whatever they want
It was a little heil on the far right
Ninja Warrior, Raccoon Edition
how massive is that thing or are those miniatures
Looks like it's as "big boned" as I've gotten during Covid

I got cake!
I think that raccoon did too

Love that you also renamed something to canola oil because it was offensive
Also fewer letters

It uses a Rest API. I probably wont get around to it. But it's an interesting thought is all.
Thinking to clean the smaller ish server rack tomorrow. Im thinking ups on bottom, but not sure if power strip should be bottom or too. What have you done?
ups bottom, because it likes to be dominated
power strip, where everything still reaches it, but i'd prefer the top due to plugging cables in more easily and not having to crawl down
this better be an entire book Aleks lol
you've been writing for like 15 minutes

Please use a code share site to share code or logs, for example:
- https://dpaste.org/ (select YAML for the language)
- https://www.codepile.net/ (select YAML as the language)
- https://paste.debian.net/ (you guessed it, select YAML as the language)
Please don't use Pastebin, since it can randomly add spaces to the main view. Please also don't share text as images since it makes it harder for people to help you. Remember that others may have colour blindness, impaired vision, etc.
If I can fit then from top 2x 220v fans (I have then and easy to speed conntrol, tgen unifi 24 port POT,, then a patch panel and a UDM Pro below soZ under i need a shelved for synology ds1520 and a expansion for it (stikk new in a bix. Decent shelf for home assistant
Any thoughts?
no clue, try your best
in the end, it dosnt really matter (the order)
Mods get an SLA of 730 days. So Iâll get back to you in 2024 đ
so basically the normal waiting period for any aussie needing any type of support
Iâve never had to wait for support
Ups should be at the bottom, less chance of you dying than if it jumps from the top shelf onto your face

I should get more reliable cameras for my backyard so I can post snippets of the raccons who trek through here at night to taunt michelle lol
Please do!
I would say get some dahua full color ones (colour images in low light)
But you would be fine with black and white cameras for the subject matter đ¤Ł
Oh no, the thermostat of my refrigerator is defect, now i have to use a smart plug for that
Until the spare part arrives
Not sure what i should think of that
How can be a wlan frequency spectrum be so crowded
I've seen worse
smort home appliances
If you're in a dense area its not abnormal
Bought these Tuya TRV's ... AVOID!
they work over zigbee... and link just fine to HA.. they just don't seem to control radiators properly.. No matter what the settings are, the radiators are always on
just a friendly note..
its not crowded... there are only 3 non-overlapping channels,
Some Tuya zigbee are quite decent
Yes, roughly 0.2%
Iâve had about a 90% success rate
90% of 0,2% would be like 0,18% right?
So far I've only seen one good Tuya product
And that is the one me and @shadow prawn ordered
I've got nice tuya based zigbee downlights, good tuya zigbee based door sensors, and a good tuya zigbee rgb strip controller
Only one of the door sensors had a fault, it drained battery very fast
Does the lights behave in groups?
Oh plus a tuya zigbee blind motor
None of the ZigBee stuff i have responds to group commands
They're in a group and respond as the group
You have better luck than me then
Only went with these downlights because they're the only australian approved zigbee RGB+CCT downlight that I could find
So far been very happy with them
Nice colour and good white colours
What is the socket?
They're downlights connected to a normal mains outlet in the roof
The classic new australian downlights
Yes. Other end of the ballast is the 240v plug
They work well
Its seems to be enough to interfere with my raspberries, so that i have interuptions in my music stream of my snapcast server, also some problems with my zigbee network, have to examine whatâs the reason
just use more power to broadcast your wifi signals than any other
That sounds like what most unifi users do
I consider to add some extra wifi antennas to my raspberry zeros
Really sad that they do not have 5ghz
But i love how people on the internet keep askinâ why their raspberry pi zero (2w) cant find their 5ghz network đ
i'd prefer to use ethernet anyway
just use USB
You mean, adding an 5ghz dongle? Thought about that.
It does not have that, and i do not have cable in my kitchen and bathroom
sucks to be your kitchen and bathroom then
@clear ferry you finally gone and done it.. made it on youtube. https://youtu.be/AVYWhB0oGWM

don't blame them with the amount of raid type discussion and help that goes on in here...
sad to see no more support for 32 bit haos
32bit? What is this? 2004?
Not I don't want to ask
But other questions keep getting ingored
Maybe they want to run it on their first gen pi0?
32bit is fine for MCUs
i get errors
And without whatever those errors are no one can help you
Itâs a lot more on topic than the channel that specifically says no support
But no one anwser our questions
That is no excuse. Be patient and spend the time reading the docs trying to discover the answer for yourself. Last warning. Do it again and I will suspend your access for a week.
The prob is docs method need addons
Which is not possible on core
What did I just say? NO SUPPORT HERE.
Complain in another channel, this one is for shitposting and talking about raccoons
Hiii
Yes?
most your shit predates that so you got no room to talk
besides with everything cutting off 32 support not just haos it turns alot of older pc's that could still be used for some things into paperweights
and that's sad
Yeah, I've got an old 32 bit netbook that's fine for light use, but is pretty much unable to run anything modern...
there are a few distro's still with 32 bit versions but they treat those like the bastard red headed step child
but shit like docker etc.. forget about it
I really wanted to turn it into a Chromebook with Chrome OS Flex or similar, but ... 64 bit required
To think that ocal numbers were actually relevant once...
Letâs go back to 2 bit
No, we can't stoop to Sonomas adolescence

I have a relatively small rack , it's only 600mm in terms of depth. That means that whatever you mount to it has to be around 550-570mm deep (assuming cables behind it also take up some space). The rack's back is not removable. Does anyone know , have , or can suggest IF there are any 1U servers with that depth?
In my local retailers shop I can't find any - mainly due to the fact that they miss that filter in their website options -_-

I want to manage my outlook calendar with cli
But I can't seem to find any good resources on it
Wonder if it is possible
Surprised thereâs no IMAP CLI
cli? what is this the 1970's
"You mean you have to use your hands? that's like a baby's toy"
Atx is allergic to GUIs
ugh as happy as i am that flux aka magichome got a whole lot of love this year.. having to go back and redo all of my light stuff is a major pain in the arse
well pretty sure all of his monitors are those old green crt's so gui's don't really look all that good on those
I wish, I miss my HP terminal
yea nothing to miss those old monitors were horrible
I still remember the day I brought home a 19" that weighed a ton and the day I got rid of it.. lifting and carrying the thing is something you just cannot forget
Like Find Waldo but the Michelle version
Nowadays the TVs are just very large and awkward to carry
they may be wider but they are like the fraction of the weight
Oh yeah, just that awkwardness makes it just as hard but in a different way
I heard what I thought was a dog whimpering out back so I went and looked and saw the one racoon in the tree.. wasn't till I looked at frigate that I saw two others running off.. wonder if I was hearing a racoon street brawl lol
I do not agree with that at all.. old 32-36" CRT TV's were not only back breaking (if not impossible for one person) but the overall dimensions made maneuvering through doorways a major pain in the ass with serious risk to hand pinching
I had given away a mint condition old 36" sony brava or whatever.. it was a HDTV in 4:3 format and that thing was too heavy for me to pick up alone.. well more than just lift straight up for a few seconds lol
Maybe the CRTs my parents had were small then. Because it was barely doable by 1 person
Yeah we never had HDTV in crt so probably older and smaller
well even before then alot of older TV's were those console floor sitting ones that weight just as much, but the screens were smaller
I had one of those too that took two people to carry
current tv's are easy.. light and altho when you get up to like the 85" the tall aspect may make carrying through doorways a little harder they are still a breeze in comparison
had an uncle that one of those.. don't even want to think what that sucker weighed lol
If I saw me in a tree I would also run, to be fair
Never seen these tbh, parents have never owned one either
The panels are so thin these days that I'm far more worried about squeezing or flexing it in the wrong place. I had no problem with the weight of my 65", but it was a bear to pick up just by cradling from the bottom.

I actually experienced this on the british embassy. I was laughting my ass off cause nobody took the reference
Yeah, 65â, 30kg, only 20mm thick, bad to handle as hell
Mine seems impossibly thin, like I can't imagine how it could be thinner
But not on the entire surface?
everything but the base, which is the first 5" or so
that usually means that there's some box somewhere else
No not with the lg g1, its awesome
sounds like the Tardis
I guess it's possible, but it's hard to imagine this getting thinner without turning into a flexible screen or being unusably flimsy
it's hard to even get a good on-axis shot without the reflective surface making it look thicker than it really is
Definately not up to no good, I guarantee it
xD

still think this discord needs a dedicated video/content channel for just HA oriented content. Ton's of decent tutorial and just general help type content out there that get's overlooked
Trouble is they go out of date very quickly. The Docs should be your first point of reference. They are kept up to date.
it's not meant to be a replacement plus as new posts continue to be made older posts disappear into the void
but people learn so much better through watching and listening rather than reading that even out of date stuff can be enough to push that extra umph for someone to understand something
Heh, my dog realized he can turn the kitchen lights on by walking in there since I put a motion sensor in. He spent like 20 minutes walking in and out and making the lights turn on/off.
Maybe đ¤Ť
That's power wastage when he keeps doing that
Do something to prevent it
Meh, I'm fine with him being able to turn on a light if he wants. It turns off after 90s of no motion anyways.
Well the price of electricity then
I bet it costs <$10/year
k.
oh don't bring up cost of electricity in here you'll awaken the Troll

We are almost at American levels now
We used to be $0.003 per kWh, bow we are $0.03

Holy crap i do not like the new menu changes in the latest haos
Can you show me
well to be more specific.. i do not like the new branch off for system and the location for the restart should not be where it is lol
The interface should be different on core right?
think it's the same on all
@light trout is HACS gonna get a fancy notification attached to the icon in the side bar for updates?
ohh i like the new look of the automations section in the UI etc
My update sensor is steady on
No updates
And the interface is super different
HACS updates are lumped in with the rest
? you mean the config icon will show x number of updates for HAC updates?
I believe so
They're all updates
Yes
now that would be nice
prob the first release in a long time where it has both hard likes and hard dislikes for me lol
Is any updates released for core
Also what's the latest version of core
oh it's called settings now.. it was called configuration lol
mine shows the number on the bottom right of the icon, not off to the side.. looks better than yours đ
Yeah restart should be in settings. Not dev tools
it's in both places
You are running a very very old version
Weird
at the top right of the system window and in the yaml window in dev tools
@restive vapor are you running core instead of container/ OS?
Core
#general-archived is calling as this is turning into more support than chat đ
Can we rename off topic to shitposting. Less support then đ¤Ł
Yaml exists
Btw what's the reason
What do you mean?
Yaml isn't a cli
Why core have a such old version
Check #installation-archived

I could rename my assistant to Eddie

ugh wanting to simply restart HA and having to go through this new process is making me want to insult norwegians

Poor mans cli
I wonder if HA would work at all in lynx
no thanks, haven't wanted to play Zork in quite some time
I actually have https://github.com/home-assistant-ecosystem/home-assistant-cli installed, though I've hardly bothered with it

The issues are when it doesn't work
Yes
Is portx good?
Define good?
like does the interface looks good and all the function are usable
Looks are personal
Personally on a command line I just use ssh
If I want a UI then it's either X-Shell or Termius
Since SSH exists in any modern os
Why on earth should one use third party clients anymore
Heck, there is even native scp/sftp in windows now
Tinkerer can I get the role to be able to post images in other channels.. I got a feeling I may need to be doing that in the near future

Minecraft server console in ssh
Disgusting,on multiple levels
why
downside to that logic is the whole putting the moment on pause just to get clearance which seems silly. thus why I asked now cause a hard no or yes wouldn't pause the moment later
sftp
well that was uncalled for
You seem to think I'm required to listen to you
never said that. just don't get why you have an issue to begin with
does caching doh request speed up doh
do you have a TLS breaking proxy on which you want to do that?
well a reverse proxy
But it shouldn't if headers are set correctly. As the DNS resolver does its own caching. Unless you run something really dumb
yeah so no need ?
I'd be surprised if you see any benefit with caching that doesn't inhibit DNS propagation
what should i use for redis then
does homeassistant support it
Only thing it misses is ssh-copy-id which is a weird missing but not terrible
Can be scripted if needed
Oh yeah. Iâm just lazy
I think I have used copy id probably five times in my life
There are usually better ways to distribute keys
SSH CA's FTW
That's one way
When your car is bigger than average Norwegian parking spots
My old A8L was a nightmare to park
cries in germany 0.3⏠per kWh
They look fun to drive
What are they?
reminds me of that tiny car from satisfactory
They look like a gateway to claustrophobia
They would be great to slip between cars
you mean flatten between cars lmao
Basically you can sign the user keys, and tell the hosts to trust any key signed by your CA
(there's a lot more to it than just that though)
Many ways to do it
In deployment you could just make it part of the deployment
For lab environments
Etc
they are interesting. I still need to take the time to look into ssh with openldap for home use though
finally broke down and picked up a cheap 4g modem for my farm. whooping 50mb/30mb speeds.
wondering if I should have just spent more and got something I could throw ddwrt on
Y'all don't have 5g in Missouri?
not in the country
heck only had 3G for the longest time but thankfully got 4G out there now
but 5G won't ever be out there, no way a company will invest putting that many transmitters in the stick to try and give people coverage
yea but your "farmland" is like the size of a football field
heck 5G is only like what? 1k? 2k ft? I could maybe see them doing that for pocket suburbs in the sticks but when the next house is a half mile to a mile away there is noway lol
you need to add a distant meter indicator on that map picture
ok so my farm is roughly the same size as Hvam, assuming that is a suburb not town right?
hard to judge but when i scale down both to 200ft they take up the same space in my browser. not perfectly accurate but still
now if there were that many houses on my farm I could see them putting in 5G but there is only one house surrounded by nothing but green lol
google maps should add in the ability to draw a box and show how many sqft or sqmiles etc that square is
that be cool
how
that is awesome
so when i measure the longest point to point on Hvam it shows 3,918.91 ft (1.19 km)
and on my farm it's 3,911.56 ft (1.19 km)
so it is pretty damn close lmao
They do in australia. Middle of fucking nowhere gets 4G & 5G
Mainly because 3G is dead, so 4G/5G takes up the 2G and 3G frequencies
I believe 4G but 5G? you may wanna look into that
au has some pretty far out there spots lol
4G is like what? 10-15x the distance of 5G
Currently mainly along highways or nearby. But still spreading out. They advance fast for no reason other than for the hell of it
Depends on the frequencies. Which 5G can use the same frequencies as 2/3/4G
Gives the better range
but at what cost in speed?
USA is the only place currently with commercial usage of mmWave
I thought the whole speed aspect was the short wave
You can still get 200-300
Have gotten 500-800 here and thatâs on normal 3/4G frequencies using 5G
We donât have mmWave here yet
200 is not that much faster than 4G, technically here it's suppose to reach upwards of 150 but I assume that's under ideal conditions or maybe just not a cheap modem like mine
What frequenciees are mmWave?
Over 5Ghz
Depends on how far away you are. Iâve gotten 300-400 with 4G
Same location now gets 800 or so with 5G
so only really relevant for outdoor campus net
cbds?
Central business district
I like atx's version more
Think you meant to type that into porn hub atx
you should dunk your head in toilet water for even posting that image
what you call fiber and what we call fiber are two diffrent things
your fiber is our broadband lol
Now I do wonder, do they run different MAC on higher frequencies? Otherwise that wouldn't help too much to support more devices
Unless they vastly increase the number of base stations as well. Which đ¸
Because your fibre is copper cable? And atx is actual fibre?

and same speeds
which is why we don't call it fiber
We wouldâve had about 80-90% if it wasnât for a shitty liberal (conservative) government
Think atx was saying he gets gigabit symmetrical. Youâre not getting that on copper
Not at distance anyway
I don't think atx gets gigabit period
Heâs shown his gigabit speeds
I bet if telenor could decide we would not have symmetrical even on fiber @clear ferry
We do, but I only bother paying for 350/350
If australia can have gigabit then Norway could definitely have it
I had 600/600 but downgraded
I pay for 1000/1000 - 350 is too low
Yeah cheaper to not provide it when the majority donât need symmetrical
I got a seedbox so I need it :p
350/350 is doable via coper
well it is
I only have 100/40 as thatâs all we need. And we wanna save money. Would do 250 if it was like 250/100 or higher but shitty 250/40 lol
while our services don't offer same upload speeds, copper is capable of doing gigabit because our connections are fiber to the pole and only copper to the home, worst case scenario here is more rural areas where it's fiber to the node and copper for a few miles after that lol
Few miles would be crap
thats rural tho
Yeah still doesnât mean they should be <12mbps
so does germany
Australia did. Now weâre spending again to upgrade the rest to fibre
I would be happy if my farm had access to lined internet of any flavor with the exception of dsl
I hope that finally fucking ends. Telekom is starting to switch to fiber at least
god bless our 50/10 connection for 35⏠a month
at least I got gbit/50Mbit
Disgusting
over Docsis =.=
I pay US$80 for unlimited 100/40 lmao
yea, it sucks. I wish we didn't live in the internet 50s
50mb upload with gig down? that's messed up
the fact that you have to mention the unlimited đ
Hey docsis is a lot better than vdsl or adsl
ours isn't that skewed lol
Itâs better than some
bufferbloat is what really kills our internet tho
+150ms on full download, +300ms on full upload
yea, vodafone having shit peering does more to the connection than docsis vs. vdsl
In australia all plans are unlimited with some ISPs offering discounts for data caps. More so for those overseas
Murica special
It started in the USA
just ignore the weirdos that think datacaps are normal /shrug
People still have them there
our mobile is data throttled but not capped
yet all major phone service providers have data caps and no one complains
So glad we got rid of them over a decade ago (for all fixed line carriers)
it never actually started in the US.. they tried but it's been shot down everytime
Here itâs data cap then throttled internet to a couple mbps
I complain. A lot. Sadly it doesn't help much
Seems like thereâs a lot
here its datacap then throtteled to 64 kbit/s
and they don't technically have caps, as that would be illegal. It's just that websites suck hard and break on edge speeds =.=
Edge??
i got myself a 10gb for 6.66⏠a month plan and luckily dont need more
The fuck is that still around for
I have no idea how many GB I got. And I don't pay for it myself
Australia has killed 2G years ago, 3G in the next 3-5 years for the 2 major carriers
don't think that is accurate cause cox is owned by comcast which was the biggest pusher for caps and they were the one's always getting shot down
not sure about at&t tho
I know someone on Comcast with a cap
reask them if it actually took hold cause I have read nothing but them trying to implement it but it being shot down
it isn't. But the way our flatrates work is that it's flat rate for edge speeds. And only up to $cap with higher speeds
Mostly because regulators stepped in at some point and forced no caps when advertised as flatrate. (though this was left open)
They just never cared to update the lower band for the throttling. While it was annoying 10 years ago, it's just unusable these days on the throttled speeds
Yes theyâve gone over it
american's won't fight for national healthcare but you restrict our porn access and there will be hell to pay
Looks like here for my telco, if I go over my data allowance itâs capped at 1.5mbps. Usable for most things day to day (better than 64kbps)
I wouldn't mind 1.5Mb/s tbh.
But a vast downgrade from 50-450 I get on average
as long as discord doesn't fail. Since that is surprisingly bad with flaky or slow connections for being a simple IM
The one good thing australia (in computing) has is a high quality mobile network infrastructure
au is starting to sound more and more like our 1980's lol
Except we are rolling out fibre
And itâs gov owned rather than individual companies rolling it out
So you can go with whatever provider you want
we had fiber ran to node for like 50 some odd years, then fiber ran to pole (in towns/cities) for like 30 years
What about fibre to the home. Which is what weâre rolling out properly now
(And what some properties already have. Like the one Iâm in)
but the thing about usa is.. it can be like that for some places but other places could still be using two cups joined with string
Whilst here itâs going to be standardised. As itâs gov built infrastructure not private company (as in with the USA)
fiber to home came out when google fiber did.. for residential anyways
google fiber changed everything here
So⌠private company
No wonder people in the USA love musk skynet shit. Youâre already used to being controlled by a private company
but with that said, there are some cities here where they built thier own infrastructure where the city owns every aspect of it

Americans for some reason only ever think that governments can be evil. And will accept anything and everything done by corporations /shrug
maryland for example has one of those cities/towns
Imagine being told to cooperate and share lines
Why not just let the federal government build it (or at least own it)
of coke?
Then you wonât need to worry about this crap
Major infrastructure should be owned by the gov
actually we think everyone is evil, it's one of those the devil you know vs the devil you don't situations
google map the united states.. that's why
You mean the same area as australia? (Minus Alaska)
The us has the money to do it
They can outsource the building
Make AT&T or Verizon or whoever build it
Then the gov owns it and sells it on
you and these fantasies lol
You mean whatâs happening here?
when your just starting into something.. concept like those is possible.. not when infrastructure has already been in place since it's invention
We had adsl & cable
Gov bought it all
your also paying out the wazoo
You donât complain when govs build or upgrade roads
Why not with another major infrastructure project
your country is not in as much debt as ours either
So? Long term infrastructure is good investment
Especially when the gov can make money on it
but it's not needed
it's not critical
what we have works
sure we bitch.. but then so do you lol
Yeah we bitch until itâs good
I donât bitch about my internet as it works great for what I need
so for the rest of your life then
Sure I could do with faster upload
But itâs guaranteed gigabit down
Through fibre to the home
didn't you say you were data capped?
No?
oh i thought you said that above
I said my isp offers discounts if I chose a 500gb data cap, I use more so I donât take it up (but if my grandma was with my isp she would take it for example)
All ISPs here offer unlimited data
Some offer caps as an option if you want
see there is that wazoo again
all plans with the exception of mobile here are unlimited
Or people who donât need it
Except the ones we talked about above lol
yea but I question it's accuracy lol
I know people with caps in the USA. Itâs correct
another thing you gotta be careful about when it comes to US news.. something might just trialed in a single zip code and nowhere else lol
we have xfinity/at&t here and i never heard anyone mention data caps but since i don't have it nor ever had it i dunno
99% of that list is mobile cariers
So⌠a nationally owned system would avoid that sort of zip code based issues
not really
Why? Thereâs no need to restrict based on zip code if itâs the same system in the end
Unless the isp is being shitty
it's american companies
True
with the exception of desert areas our rural/in the sticks areas have pockets of people.. those people currently like myself have to deal with mobile data because there is noway anyone is going to feed miles and miles of lime to service a handful of people
those expenses just do not make sense
au isn't layed out the same
we have a whole lot of rural areas in that catagory all over
Yeah. Weâre worse. Our population density is a lot lot lower than the USA
my farm should have cable ran to it, but still dosen't cause they don't view the cost of the line being worth the amount of people who would be using it and my farm is only a few miles from the city limits lol
Outside of cities itâs nothing
I'm always amused when Americans try to claim that things wouldn't work. And it's things we've been doing for ages
see here outside cities it's not nothing here
So stop viewing infrastructure as a cost benefit. Same with public transport. Same with roads
stop living ina fantasy
So you would be fine with no road to you because it âdoesnât make financial senseâ?
you brag about making something work yet what you got is worse than what we currently have
Yeah which is why weâre improving to be better than you
there are several places here where there is no paved roads lol
Yeah but thereâs still a path
nah, they want privately owned ones where any toll paid on the road funnels into a single rich person's pockets, instead of a pool to benefit all. The true American way
Thereâs still a route
lol path
as I said, what we have currently works.. hell our speeds on average is faster and it costs us less.. what more do you want? lol
All major infrastructure (roads, electricity, water, gas, internet, public transport) should be government owned, and should be looked at as investments not as money making exercises or capitalism hell
competition does have it's benefits lol
now if we were talking healthcare i would agree with you
but when it comes to amenities thats a whole diffrent ball game
So have the competition as the retailers selling to you (eg operators of public transport, ISPs, electricity companies) not the infrastructure itself
whats the diffrence?
I'd say: Should have basic function guaranteed by govt.
there should be a space for a private entity to out-compete the govt. But basics should always be guaranteed
Infrastructure is often ignored by companies as itâs not worth upgrading, such as shitty electricity grids
you mean, californian fire hazzards?
currently our govment is trying to solve the gap in what companies cover
so again, there is no diffrence
Agreed. I donât mind capitalism investment and shit in it. But as long as everyone is guaranteed a good service & infrastructure is maintained itâs fine
So why not just have the infrastructure instead of literally paying private companies tax money
your trying to justify the cost of running line to the single man on top of Everest and guarantee quality service
we're already trillions in debt
trade us debt and we'll do what you want
Australian too. One of our deadliest bushfires on record was caused by powerlines owned by the Singapore government (through SP Power) collapsing due to lack of maintenance. Caused the fire
Okay in those extreme services you could have a government owned satellite internet system. Still doesnât change the idea that you should have major infrastructure owned by the government
And internet is now on par with roads/ public transport/ electricity/ water/ gas as a needed service
Yeah line dropped. Sparked. Lit very very dry brush
we already have satellite options lol
it sucks
we even have that starlink but no clue what the restrictiosn on that is
So it works for those who live in extreme situations
Itâs shitty private company owned (and worse being Elon owned)
Like a moped would work to drive cross country. Bloody horrible though
now covid shined some light on problem areas that the goverment is trying to "fix"
so maybe with some luck things will get better
but all things considered we have access nation wide already in some form or another.. just the issue is speed
4G is shit compared to broadband.. satellite may well be called norwegian fiber
So the fcc is wrong? https://www.fcc.gov/reports-research/reports/broadband-progress-reports/eighth-broadband-progress-report
The nation has made significant progress expanding high-speed Internet access in recent years, but further implementation of major reforms newly adopted by the Federal Communications Commission is required before broadband will be available to the approximately 19 million Americans who still lack access, according to the FCCâs Eighth Broadband P...
(Since too slow may as well be useless nowadays)
4G is perfectly fine for home internet for 1-2 people. 50-400mbps down
main issue with the various wireless stuff is latency and consistency
raw throughput isn't all there is to internet
TCP hates loss, as it always thinks buffers are full. Doesn't really have provisions for lossy connections
and I need to check, but IIRC it also really hates jitter. So can't even bundle stuff :/
You can definitely do tcp at higher than 100 ping
Iâve had to use websites overseas a decade ago from australia
i didn't read that, but pretty sure it's refering to the "broadband" access
broadband aka fiber
Broadband is anything from dsl up
oh it works. It just tanks throughput to be way less than wire speed
running fiber to the everst is a slow process with only one person living there
broadband to us is a general term for "high speed residential"
it's been the name we used for eons
and still use it today
it dosen't refer to anything specific.. just the "typical" thing we use
According to the FCC, the definition of broadband internet is a minimum of 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload speeds. Broadband provides high speed internet access via multiple types of technologies including fiber optics, wireless, cable, DSL and satellite.
Barely high speed
and the typical internet provided to most Americans is fiber to pole/node and that is what rural areas lack
which the gov is trying to fix
Just did a 4G speed test 75 down, 36ms ping. Thatâs from indoors where my apartment kills reception
Yeah. If youâre not getting 25/3 then internet just barely works anymore. Thus not fit for purpose
So it may as well not exist
do you know if that tests over UDP or TCP?
and what your technical wire speed is on that connection?
how old is whatever you plucked that from?
it's been like many years since 25dn was a thing
Was from Verizon. But got news articles from 2021 saying that it is too slow and should be updated https://gizmodo.com/the-fccs-definition-of-broadband-internet-is-too-slow-1847257425
but either way 30ishdn is fast enough for rural
Judging from that, it hasnât been updated yet
Whatever Speedtest.net uses, what do you mean by the latter?
3 up isnât though. Should have about 5-10 nowadays at a minimum
I think that's TCP on 8443.
Actual transmissino speed. Which will be the theoretical maximum without loss / congestion control
i get 127dn on 4g in my concrete basement.. but i'm in the city so that is all the diffrence in the world
if i take my phone to my farm and run the same test it will likely only be around 50ish lol
you said it yourself the FCC definition is outdated lol don't even think 3up is a thing
Unsure of that. Think the 4G used here is a theoretical of 400? I donât know
Well given people donât meet the requirements then yes it must be a thing. I said it is an outdated measurement, and by increasing the speeds youâll have more people without broadband
Whilst if I use 4G or 5G in the country I can get over 150
i still consider 30ish broadband hell evenm if the up is only 15-20 that is plenty
the whole goal of the gov is trying to supply efficient speeds for school type work
And the fcc says that 25 and below isnât broadband. Ergo thereâs a lot who are running slower
when you gotta drive and hour or more before reaching any type of populated area the 4g speeds are so nurtured kids can't do online schooling lol
assuming you can even get 4g.. some don't.. and satellite speeds are even worse
which is astounding to me.. you would think they would have figured out how to improve sat speeds by now
i love that LG feels the need to send me emails of useless crap like this
that tells me nothing.. where is the info about water usage and power usage
who gives a shit what mode i use the most
Try intergrate ur washing machine into homeassistant
it is
that don't tell me anything diffrent lol
other than I can see when it's running and make it run etc
Does homeassistant tells the power usage
no the LG integration doesn't have that
at least not for dishwasher, fridges or washer and dryers
Maybe a wifi switch with voltage measure
Can help here
I shouldn't have too LG collects that data already they just don't send it to me. i know this cause I've seen my fridge have it when I had an issue with it one time
Oh
Wait so they actually collect it but hide it? The fuck
yea
they use it to detect "problems" but instead of sending me the data they just say "it's working normally"
What is the cheapest 3d printer you all recommend
Creality Ender for here in the US.. it's the cheapest most good rated one I have found through research
the ender3 or ender 3 pro
3d printer is the one thing i haven't pulled the trigger on yet but keep telling myself one day i will lol
What us plug looks like
Argh no seller offers Malaysia plug
Only us
Guees I need a adapter
You want something that supports 240v
The USA is 110v
isn't that the same as the UK plug?
Actually yeah this
UK is your best bet
Else an adaptor with something sold with a UK plug is best
Plug a 110v device into a 240v socket and youâll have a nice boom
They donât. Adaptors are dumb
Transformers convert
If you take apart an adaptor youâll find it literally just connects the pins (itâs why theyâre cheap)
Most laptop/ phone power supplies can support 100-240v
Send a picture?
Yeah those donât convert voltage
Uk plug looks similar to Malaysia plug
These are transformers
If the plug is the same as Singapore then itâs the exact same as the uk
Thank being an ex colony for that
It's the same
your right.. asshats calling it a converter is misleading
Aha
Rm361.14 for a 3d printer
Not bad?
Unless youâre using a hairdryer or a kettle or a desktop power supply (some desktops only have cheap power supplies supporting one voltage) then itâs fine
although with that said.. pretty sure the ender would handle the conversion on it's own
pretty sure they sell it with an optional uk plug that just replaces the lead coming off the power supply
For an ender3?
Not buying ender
It's too expensive
What are you getting?
You might get one thatâs absolutely crap
The ol you get what you pay for
yea gotta be weary of what you get
i been researching those things for years and the creality has held it's ground as being good for the price the whole time
First time buying
Yeah still worth ensuring it is 240v, especially when youâre someone like Darren who doesnât know the difference
It looks somewhat crap tbh
Yes
But I only print small items
Have you tried looking at the Creality website for price?
Not just whatever your weird domestic market is
Even the cheapest Creality would probably be better than this one
Holy
1737.45 rm
I don't have this much money
ender 3 pro is 236 for me
course it's on sale
those ender go on sale all the time tho
Yeah but I don't have one thousand to buy it
wow only 199 at microcenter.. whooped amazon's ass in price lol
Look for Ender 3. That one is usually around 150 dollars
yea
It's a bit older
the good thing about them is you can print off your own upgrade parts lol
It's still
that ender3 s1 is like the top end of the enders that's why it's 400 bucks
I'm waiting for this to be available after Shitstarter. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ankermake/ankermake-m5-3d-printer-5x-faster-printing-and-ai-camera
Insane speeds from the pre-release reviews.
wtf does the camera do that requires ai?
The biggest gripe the pre-reviewers had was that Anker has no business being on Kickstarter
Looks like that's it
Looking forward to my first 3d models
Cover the camera
kickstarter sucks in that aspect.. people funding already profitable companies
Then it reports
Camera faulty
Print function locked until camera replaced
I'd then try saving money to get an Ender even if it's the cheapest one you get. It's generally worth the money for what you get. Compared to one no one's heard about
Hey it's Thanatos my favourite Greek
Ender is good as you can learn how they work by observing them fail, best regards an Ender user
Mine has never failed
the first iterations of enders had those issues but then when people started upgrading them through printing those issues melted away.. the newer enders don't get reviews of them failing
Hel is always fun
I just want to print now
I can't wait alr
I can't intergrate 3d printer into hass right?
You can via Octoprint
