unless you have a good reason you want the devices merged, just go with the disks on their own for now. You can play with mounts to manually make sure you use the storage on the device you have more left over on

Just going to chime in, if you do decide to go ZFS, it is a bit "special" in that you shouldn't do it on hardware raid cards, you cannot use SMR hard drives etc. If you do it it right, it will look after you, if you do it wrong it will be a dumpster fire

I'm really positively surprised by btrfs, actually. People kept saying raid5 was terrible, but I've been running it for over two years now and it's stable as a rock. At one point I switched one of the drives so my configuration went from 10+10+4+4 TB to 10+10+10+4 TB and it just kept trucking even during the resync.
And that's with terrible maintenance. For the first year and a half I didn't even scrub it.

They only switch the light on and of and interrupt the motion sensor in the room.
