There was actually an interesting article where someone power-capped a 12700k at 25w
feel free to share it
the m1max draws 40w and destroys that i5 12
intel is practically dead
Alder lake is actually very, very efficient. It just boosts stupid high by default 🤷♀️
I love that their load temperature was only 30c during that test. lol
the thing is, intel has to decide which road they want to go
efficient cpu's or fast cpu's, choose one
They can do both, honestly...
intel: yes
You're going to see power-capped 12th gen CPUs in laptops
just put more power into it
And they're going to perform amazingly well for the amount of power they sip
bulldozer
12th gen is literally both. It's a big.LITTLE architecture. lol
This i5 I'm sitting on has 6 big cores and 4 little cores.
It's power efficient because of that, more than anything
Big.big
In intel's case, it allows them to fit 4 little cores in the same amount of die space as one big core, which is how you get a 10-core i5 that only uses the equivalent die space of a 7-core all-big-core CPU.
they should have done that back with 6th gen cpu's
For laptops, that means they can prioritize little cores while on battery and save power. For desktops, that means they have a bank of additional cores they can access for highly-threaded workloads. Kinda a win-win
yeah especially since most applications only have one or two main threads
e'yup. You don't actually need that many big cores
In fact, Raptor lake (13th gen) is slated to have the same maximum of 8 big cores, but doubles the little core count from a maximum of 8 to a maximum of 16
for now tho, the cpu's i have are fine for my tasks
So we'll have a 8+16, 24 core / 32 thread Core i9 hit the market some time late in 2022.
Hah, CPUz happens to have my old CPU in their list of reference processors. That's... one hell of an improvement...
What a difference 7 years makes >.>
That's also a lot of years
Heck, it is almost the average age of the #330990055533576204 userbase 🥳
My only real complaint is that I lost some memory bandwidth and PCIe lanes vs. the old platform
Going from 7 year old HEDT to current-gen non-HEDT still isn't an across-the-board upgrade, sadly
There's a reason HEDT systems are so expensive. They have features 7+ years in advance >_>
PCIe lanes went down from 40 to 20 (granted, they're now PCIe 4.0 and 5.0 rather than 3.0), and memory went down from 90 GB/s (quad channel DDR4) to 50 GB/s (dual channel DDR4).
I really wish Intel had brought quad-channel DDR4 down to mainstream desktops for 12th gen. It'd be kicking DDR5's ass right now...
in the end all that matters for me is, that the pc is affordable, donst consume tons of power and works well enough for my day to day tasks
why didnt you go for a ddr5 mainboard?
Because you literally can't buy DDR5 right now...
Also, 1st gen DDR5 is actually kinda' crap. Good DDR4 can still match it on clockspeed, with better timings.
DDR5 will (eventually) scale well past 6 GHz, where it'll outperform DDR4 handily... but it's not there yet...
why did you bought it rn then and not waited for a month or two?
DDR5 won't be available in a month or two. lol
Maybe some time near the end of 2022... maybe...
There are major supply chain issues surrounding the power regulators that go onto DDR5 memory sticks.
DDR4 has power regulation on the motherboard. You buy all the power regulation you'll ever need for your DDR4 RAM when you buy your motherboard.
DDR5 has power regulation on every individual stick, and the power regulators are about 10x more expensive. There's currently a 35 week lead-time on getting an order of said regulators.
ouch
So yeah, if you place an order for the power regulators right now, you'll get them in about 9 months
luckily i'm not in that bubble anymore
I already had 32GB of DDR4 from my previous system, so I just reused that and called it a day...
understandable
12th, 13th, and 14th gen are all currently set to use the same socket, and all of them will have a dual memory controller supporting both DDR4 and DDR5
I imagine Intel is anticipating issues with DDR5 supply for some time to come...
there are lead times on LOTS of hardware. Major supply lines are broken due to limited production facilities of certain items.
I mean, yeah, though that doesn't seem to be impacting intel (or DDR4) all that much
Probably helps that intel makes a lot of their hardware in the US
also helps that intel got their own fabs
Yup, 2 more are about to come online, and they just started construction on a 3rd. All of them in the US.
they did deprecate hardware ahead of time quite a bit on the lower end
Because they shifted capacity to their more up to date/higher value products
Isee that apple and samsung are getting heavily into neural processors in all their latest phones. My question is this:- How come the likes of Intel and AMD are not doing the same for their cpu lines?
Because you can just install a PCIe card with waaaaay more AI processing power than any ARM SoC
Nvidia GPUs, and Google Coral TPUs, for example
but apparently even the likes of the humble r-pi is impacted by supply shortages.
but are those gpu's and tpu's programmed for ai like a phone is?
it's just matrix multiplication at the end /shrug
the futureof computing is definitely AI
One would hope they use the same high-level language, sure
r-pi is one of the first to be impacted. they have no stable supply chain
ehh. It's going to be part of the future, but not the future
I mean, yeah, Nvidia threw a ton of weight behind AI to make raytracing workable in real-time. lol
however the upshot of the supply chain problem is the rising prices of electronics.
Modern real-time raytracing is actually fairly coarsely rendered. They use dedicated AI processing hardware on the GPU to fill in the gaps, rather than actually rendering at full resolution.
@subtle pasture is that actual ai - or just huge paarallelism required for raytracing?
They use both. They raytrace a course frame, and then use AI to upscale it and fill in all the gaps between the rays.
Because apparently it's faster to use AI to finish the frame than it is to actually raytrace at full resolution
judging from how long the cpu tracers in stuff like blenders take...
@glacial knot Putting on my futurist hat you are correct it will be part of the future, because "computing" as we know it today will cease to exist. Replaced by ai that can run stuff all by itself. Whether that is for the benefit of mankind or not is to be determined lol. Any access we need to compute power can probably be dialed up (cloud wise) from right inside our skulls with implants at an early age!
The left half is pre-AI denoising. The right half is after AI is done with it.
They aren't even casting 1 ray per-pixel
it'd be too slow
thats hard to tell as the border of the two halves are at the shadow line - and pictures in the dark are notoriously lousy to start with
It's dark because they filled the non-casted area with black rather than gray
It's pretty obvious that AI is doing a fuck-ton of heavy lifting there...
yeah - but you are under the roofline of the building whereas the right half is out in sunlight
if the picture was all in sunlight or all in shade just saying it would be better for the example
much better !
I still think the first example was obvious 🤷♀️
Their AI denoising algorithm is pretty impressive
yes it is
because apple is all about that unified memory
what then is samsungs reason?
android is finally getting it because they now see the limitations of trying to do everything in google's cloud
Phones mostly use AI for image processing, at this point. Makes things like facial recognition faster.
And I'm sure it's being used for image processing from the main camera, as well
Maybe also some background noise suppression for calls 🤷♀️
image/photo and doing the voice assistant on device
hah and that
my recipe app has a ML model now for when the metadata way of grabbing fails
Ah yeah, voice recognition. Being able to do that on-device is so much better than having to upload all audio to the cloud for processing
so even websites trying to stop me from grabbing that cookie recipe get scraped now
That's one of the reason 3rd gen Amazon Echo devices are so much faster than 1st and 2nd gen. They do way WAY more voice recognition on-device
I imagine part of the reason you aren't seeing AI acceleration built into x86 CPUs is because x86 CPUs are so much faster than ARM SoCs that they can just run this sort of thing in software...
Eh? An x86 CPU can do voice recognition no problem
my 2w google coral runs circles around an i9 Desktop with image processing
Yeah, and for large bulk operations, you'd use a TPU or GPU
But you really don't need a dedicated TPU for the Alexa app to work on a PC...
ah yah, I have been with apple for soo long that I forgot that the GPU has the TPU
Works just fine using CPU-based voice recognition
And Windows Hello also manages to do facial recognition without dedicated hardware
you can always do it without the dedicated hardware, its just not power efficent
Yeah, but it doesn't necessarily need to be power efficient if it's not a long-running bulk operation
Logging into your PC with your face only happens rarely
Yeah, you're not an average user. lol
@subtle pasture every apple photos user does this 😛
even my mom without knowing she does
I've processed photos for years without a TPU. What are you using it for?
its doing object recognization, people recognization, identifying text in a photo and OCRing it along with handwriting
Ah, see, we're doing completely different kinds of image processing. lol
well when I get to image editing, its nice to be able to easly grab a person
I'm sitting here with lightroom and photoshop not knowing wtf you'd need a TPU for
Generally the bottleneck with OCR is the speed at which you can scan the pages, not the CPU...
An x86 CPU can OCR a page long before you can finish scanning the next one
Hey you don’t know whether someone might have a stupid fast scanner 😛
(I imagine a photo based one might be rivalling)
Yeah, I've seen fast book scanners. They're not that fast
the handwriting identification is a ML model
paper has physical limitations. lol
The Project Gutenberg book scanner is brilliant, though
my god, paper.... we have to scan a lot
because other regions cant get their shit together
and even nicely printed on a paper page the ocr gets it wrong.
heh, is handwriting recognition that slow? I've been using it since 2003 in applications like OneNote
And computers in 2003 were slow as balls compared to today >_>
usually inaccurate as hell
The quality would be different though even if the speed is the same
Handwriting recognition is fast and accurate I’ve found recently
it's pretty magical handwriting into OneNote and watching it convert into editable text in real time behind your stylus.
But old style required more accurate handwriting
Handwriting recognition is very different from OCR because you have another dimension of data.
It was actually pretty accurate if you had a stylus and were writing real-time, because it had all the pen-stroke information, rather than just the pre-written handwriting.
going back to the phones using the ai cores for photo processing. Phones now have 4+ cpu cores as good as desktop ones of a couple of years ago. Surely they dont need to use the ai when the standard cpu's are capable?
I could never get into oneNote, I hated the page freeness
Also the fact that some people (like myself) have terrible handwriting
@subtle pasture oh thats a completely different story
At least in the old desktop version you could force it to only be A4 page, etc
if you are writing into the app, thats easy to be accurate
Was quite nice
sucks on a phone since it does not text reflow
now I do everything in markdown
but yah, processing handwriting as you draw is easy, from a scanned document is HARD
joke - why do doctors dictate to medical transciption machines? Answer - cos even OCR cant read a doctors handwriting!
Well depends on how the scanned document is. If it’s nicely formatted text then that’s easier than if it’s chicken scratch
The real issue is overlapping characters or rows
You have to try and separate that out when you're dealing with a scanned page of handwriting
Im happy that my phone and laptop can do all of this virtually live without being a space heater
Now I'm curious how much AI processing grunt intel's integrated GPUs have. Hmm...
You know what they say... ```
I
do
not
know
where
family
doctors
acquired
illegibly
perplexing
handwriting;
nevertheless,
extraordinary
pharmaceutical
intellectuality,
counterbalancing
indecipherability,
transcendentalizes
intercommunications’
incomprehensibleness
They slap one of those on every CPU, these days
I must admint that I havent yet tried it with my desktop, but it should be capable
Ah, yup, there it is. Intel GPUs have "dedicated Xe Matrix eXtensions (XMX) matrix engines, which offer hardware-accelerated AI processing."
So intel CPUs (the ones with integrated graphics) do have AI processing onboard 🤷♀️
Any intel CPU with an "F" suffix lacks an iGPU, yeah
not the half dead cpu's (celeron etc)
so that rules out a lot of laptops
laptops are more likely to have integrated intel graphics than desktops, though?
if you do a /cat/proc/cpuinfo - what do you need to grep to determine if it has it?
It probably won't show up there because it's a GPU. lol
well cpuinfo list a LOT of stuff including some extra instructions sets etc
Also worth mentioning that the intel GPU tends to get disabled if you have a discreet card installed
that is bios dependent
Though you can generally twiddle some options in your BIOS to get both at once
@dusky plank I'm well aware, but that's the behavior I've seen out of practically every computer I've ever touched
Install PCIe card? Intel GPU vanishes unless you specifically enable it.
I have one right in front of me, igpu disabled but still shows up and is ready
Man, their hardware used to be fantastic
it still is
that's just a stupid bios in this machine
setting igpu to disabled was the only way to have all gpus show up (igpu and 3 pci gpus)
Are there any linux wizards around that understand fuses and docker?
I built an image that holds blobfuse and want to bind a local volume to the container's data directory (/localdir:/data)
That does not fail, but files don't appear at the host. Where I log onto the container and navigate to the data folder, all files are retrieved from storage account, but only visible in the container itself.
I clearly don't understand how this works, maybe you can enlighten me a bit?
tell what exactly you want to achieve in the channel of your install method
is this your ha container? because then
otherwise off-topic fits^^
nope, not ha, hence in offtopic
kk, my bad
restart the service you want to view the files from inside the container
what service is that exactly?
I found a repo that has similar code: https://github.com/jeffreybreen/docker-ubuntu18-blobfuse
blobfuse is in the container, mounting the fused folder to a host directory outside the container.
blobfuse info: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/blobs/storage-how-to-mount-container-linux

I have no idea what service you try to make run or build
but seeing a windows icon in combination with docker 🤢
don't get fooled by the icon, this is all on a debian host
it allows a directory to be mounted to cloud storage
it's got to be awfully slow
files are cached in RAM, then sync'd to the cloud in the background
why would you do these cruesome things?
because I hate myself
get some help
At least you're honest
trying to understand stuff.. but hopelessly stuck so, yes, probably better to abandon this miserable idea before someone else gets hurt in the process...
Thank Dog
it'll be Beta Friday, though
hopefully the camel will still make a Friday appearance
Did I hear correctly, no release today?
The camel ate the release
To anyone who has issues with Google home hub freezing with a gray screen
Factory reset did not work
Unplugging the cord 11 times did

Mine randomly reboots at least one per week
Never had issues with it before today when I moved it for washing the kitchen
You shouldn't wash the kitchen with your google home hub
Made something just for you atx
Not a fan?
So the Twitch integration is just if someone is live or not, does anyone know if its possible (even with other software) for stuff like subs, bits, etc to automate actions within HA?
4 thread devices on my network 0.0
Oh… this is interesting, they show up on my network with an ipv6 address with a mdns multicast
Anyone interested in actual networking? I’m moving to Austin Tx in a month or so. Anyone in that area? #texas #austin #meetup

look what i found!
I don't think I've ever seen one that's not Apple branded...
I had a load of them, none were Apple. Then again, that was checks calendar a long long time ago
i have them aswel!! just with bigger capacities
Never seen a microdrive before, but I still see plenty of CF
Hey, we even have a wiki article for a hp one
Hewlett-Packard HP3013/3014, nicknamed Kittyhawk, was a hard disk drive introduced by Hewlett-Packard in June 1992.
It was the first ever commercially produced hard drive in a 1.3 inch form factor. The original implementation (model 3013) had the capacity of 20 MB. A 40 MB model called Kittyhawk II (model 3014) was eventually introduced, with ...
The story of HP Kittyhawk is described in a Harvard Business School business case "Hewlett-Packard: The Flight of the Kittyhawk", and is a case study in the book The Innovator's Dilemma by Clayton M. Christensen.

Microdrives were used in the Palm life drive, near the end of OG Palm's life cycle.
Dang it
Acer n10 here, cheap ass
I got a delivery :0
off topic question here
does win11 really worth the try or should i stay on win10?
found w11 smoother than 10 on my XPS laptop as well. Only thing broken is F5 VPN client software.
and even F5 can be sorta fixed if we turn off some of the security controls ona test machine
thanks for all the feedback, i dont know if im going to make the switch yet, im going to investigate a little further
Dual booting or VM is the best way to try
dont touch a system, if it aint broke
stay on 10 until its EOL
personally, i'll move in 2024 or so, when windows 11 LTSC is released, the actual stable build and not the public beta test program
Win11 is great tbh
Interestingly, I just upgraded to new hardware that passes all checks for Windows 11 compatibility, and Windows Update has yet to offer Windows 11 to me
Meh, I can wait. intel 12th gen actually seems to work just fine on Windows 10 🤷♀️
which ones exactly?
those nanoleaf
I ended up paying $15 per bulb
multicolor as well
not ha ready yet sadly
or might be, I need to see what is exposed since it is on my wifi network through the homekit border router
New COVID restrictions say I should have fewer close contacts
What if I have 0
Should I kick the wife and kids out
just the kids
Go live in your igloo

Nice rack
Hi anyone own google smart display? I have a question about settings
Yes
Its there somewhere in setting options for developers? Something like on android developer options?
There's a decades-worth of upgrades, right there
@finite atlas im going to have to try to access the nano leaf openapi via the ipv6 address exposed via homekit thread
Also, props to past-me for saving my old motherboard boxes. Was able to re-box even the oldest board in its original packaging.
And I'm noticing Asus hasn't really altered their packaging all that much in the last 10 years.
Logo + Model information (framed between two horizontal lines) + circle with a highlighted feature.
don't change it if it's not broken
Focus has changed from VRM to RGB though

Yeah, which I promptly disabled. lol
This board has RGB headers all over it, and integrated LEDs. You could create a pretty blingy system with it... but my case is a black monolith with no window.
There's no real point in keeping the RGB enabled
BUT HOW WILL THE DUST MITES RAVE INSIDE?
Filtered intakes, no dust 😉
i mean, hepa? cause i mean i have filtered intakes, theres still small ammounts of dust
You are the dust source Bored :D
^
Silverstone filters, not sure what grade they are
But I haven't had to dust the inside of the machine in 3 years so...
i need some then, lol
It also pays to make sure you have (slightly) positive case pressure
slide my finger on the top of the monitor yeaaaa me to
Otherwise you'll suck dust in from every crevice
oh there is deff positive case pressure
3 140's on the rad sucking in, and 3 140's on front
1 exhaust on back
I'm running 2x 140mm intakes and 2x 120mm exhausts, which basically ensures the pressure remains positive
2 intakes on the front, one exhaust on the back, and another on the side.
Side panel fans rock, and case manufacturers need to bring them back already...
I more meant the side panel fans that sit right over your expansion slots
My side panel fan removes a fuck-ton of heat from the case when the graphics card is working
Do a vertical mount that puts the GPU fans right up against the side panel, and have a cutout for the fans to breath?
Cold air intake for your graphics card 👀
webcam in the case :D
yeaaa. you should listen to her mostly tho
This is what i am slowly doing for airflow
1 done, 1 to go, but to cold right now
LOL, better then my old case
also don't look at the bottle, that for when i need to forget 🤣
I remember seeing photos of people modding Shuttle style PC cases to take dual-slot graphics cards
thats shoved in a corner, forgive the photo
Straight up U-shaped cutout in the side panel for the GPU heatsink to hang out of
Lulz, Norwegian newspapers are now keeping a counter on top of their webpages with Omicron cases confirmed
that name make me think of the alien planet in futurama
omicron persi 8
yup yup
LUUURRRRR
:D
what are you talking about, this is still 2019 donchaknow ?
there will ALWAYS be a new virus, so this whole sensationalization should really stop
cant we just get back to normalness at this point?
tbh, i don't have a life, this isn't much different
i just get to justify wearing mask without talking about CCTV
the new job im going for mandates vax
and i didnt really wana get it, but 8 dollars more per hr is worth it
holly molly
hey doc just squirt that in the trash and fill out my card please
french salary really suck XD
If only everywhere would mandate vaccination ;-)
against stupidity?
I'll pay you in Baguettes
or every single little virus that pops up?
i mean, i am out of fresh bread ... so i'll take it i guess :D

if we didn't had to cancel other hospitalisation to heal covid people i wouldn't care much. But yea, my neighbor couldn't get her breast cancer treated during last wave ... not cool.
is Norway thinking about closing border ?
I still have something planed in early February
(what a dumb question, i have something planed, of course border WILL be closed... )
We have mandatory quarantine for specific countries and if you aren't vaccinated
well we will see :)
i was talking about my plan to move there at work...
a colleague was confuse, saying that it was cold and people weren't very social with stranger, but suddenly cut himself and said "Oh, that's right, you actually like not having friend's"
he did took a nerf dart in the jaw soon after
wooo my new denon x1700h just came in
awesome value avr if anyone's looking for one
I used to have a Denon before it died on me. It was great and I loved the Audyssey stuff
moved here bc its not exactly home assistant, but does anyone know if duckdns supports you using 4th level domains?
Forth level domains, wth
Something about wildcard forwarding
i genuinely did that and jack shit came up 😦
jesus christ, all i have to do is set it in nginx, i was so sure i would have to change something in my duckdns docker image or something
Let me know if you manage to get anything working, I love my nanoleaf bulbs but being thread means they’re some of the only lights not in HA
That does cause riots though. Look in Melbourne, vaccines required to work or go into non essential shops and people protest and also end up abusive to others
It’s a shitty situation because poor retail staff get harassed
i have thread stuff connected with the homekit controller, it is working
Wait how, the bulbs refused to detect on mine
first step would be to check if your device is listed in here https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/27292#issuecomment-968997838
else add it and wait some time
Once that’s done, do I just unpair the bulbs from HomeKit and repair them through HA?
😂😂
These the nanoleaf essentials bulbs?
its somehow connected with homekit, don't see any traces of it using a integration though
Since if I can get them on HA that would be amazing
How did you add them to HA, was it just click add HomeKit device?
it drives me nuts rn, I cannot see myself how that works
😄
OH, they are homekit switches
I love how sometimes our best answers to things is essentially ‘magic’
i trigger the switch in homeassistant, homekit has a automation which triggers the device
outsmarted myself
Also is HA ever gonna support thread? Or is it just one of those in the roadmap things
ex-amber project talks about thread, I have no idea
I would rather stay away from thread in general
these devices are the next generation with cloud connectivity in mind
Isn’t thread meant to be offline communication though
they call it that - in the end it's IP communication
Here I was thinking it’s basically an evolution of zigbee
Given the current thread stuff looks to be all local anyway
it's the next backdoor to your home lan, some security gurus say
paranoia you say
its hypponen's law
Noctua sent free goodies 👀
They went above and beyond on the packaging for this. It could have been some hardware in a plastic bag
I wasn't expecting a fully printed box with a foam insert
It looked like a VESA mount for a monitor, but then I read the insert and saw the scale next to the keyboard/mouse
Noctua is really good with that stuff. If only their products didn't look like British food - beige
arctic fans keep me from having to waste money on noctoa 😉
hot take
They make blacked-out versions of all of their products now
"Noctua Chromax"
I know. It's one of the things I'm considering for CPU right now
I'm slightly intrigued by going with AIO just to try it out and go with extra gamer cred
performance wise it makes zero sense
There are tests done and noctua is great but not worth the premium for performance vs cost.. we’re talking 2x-3x price difference lol
For a fuckin fan
I'm running Phanteks fans on my Noctua cooler
That's fair, but their customer service with upgrades etc is top notch so it's not nothing you pay for
They... weren't actually that much cheaper than Noctua fans, tbh
But they have similar build quality, so it kinda tracks
Oh, no, the fans they INCLUDE on cases are completely different
Like, literally, they use different (cheaper/uglier) fans as their included case fans
The fans you buy from them stand-alone are way nicer
Yeah my panteks were three-pin too. But at least they are rgb lol
I have a couple of noctua fans, but I don't think I'll be putting those in a case with a window.
I don’t do rgb on my pc other than the cpu cooler that came with my ryzen
Tell that to any OEM with low-end products. lol
Maybe I will
RGB is mostly for memes, but the ability to integrate it with HA is quite nice so I don't have to stare at them in the middle of the night
I use wled and strips for that around the house
But for pc.. I don’t go look at it
I use it lol
It turns out the phanteks fans (and probably most others) are just WS2812 strips so you can control them with wled or something like that
I think my case even came with some led stuff that isn’t plugged in
I use my rgb's just for check general temps
green blue and red all through the day
I just let stuff burn 🔥
blue burning your eyes 90% of the time
Lol
how is blue not cold 🤔
when working with range scales the typical colors are green > blue > red
otherwise when you look at it you might forget what color means what lol
fair fair but with temps it would feel more logical to have blue and red as the extremes, but maybe that's just me
you could get away with blue > yellow/orange > red maybe
That’s how I have my 3d printer
When heating or cooling blue to red
And vice versa
That strip (warning loud video)
Then red to green for competition %
you should try Sirocco fans for RV's, approx $200 for a 12v fan with a clamp!
This is hands down the best smart/addressable LED strip I have ever seen! The video really doesn't do it justice, but if you want the pinnacle of LED technology available today, this is it!

but i am looking to setup home assistant, i have a lot of google homes and other smart devices setup with the home app
will setting up home assistant change/mess with anything
Nope

@scenic radish i thought you hung out in digiblur's discord
I do indeed

i put it in #integrations-archived im just making sure i have right channel
That or one of the dev channels. But you’ll get help in #integrations-archived or #general-archived to find the right channel
It wasn't an actual "custom" entity.
Too cold. I just wouldn’t leave my house 😂
If you want a real white xmas - come to Australia! The sun is so bright its a whiteout! lol
Fun fact - Southern hemisphere summers should be hotter than northern ones cos in our summer we are 4 billion kilometres closer to the sun!

Had to shovel the driveway twice a day
aren't dwarfs suppose to be use to the cold?

anybody interested in a commercial project ... mail me please bugra.keskin@gmail.com
i need a HA consultant and tinkerer for a commercial project

Bonus points if they’re all wired up correctly
@clear ferry what does yours look like?
Donate those to a Cisco lab at some community college yo
Or even better post on r/homelabsales and give away a few at a time as Xmas gifts they pay shipping or local pickup only
It's not mine, I'm not that crazy
I should find my snap of me with optical cables around my head stating I'm John snowden, king betong the firewall
the stupid modem box from vodafone is so bad, I'm actually considering putting it on a smart socket, so I can power-cycle it from HA D:
SOMETHING IS BEEPING IN MY GARAGE AND I CANNOT FIND IT
It’s like it’s laughing at me at 30 second intervals
Sanity regained. It was an expired Nest Protect at the bottom of a box
Did you feel protected?
It clearly did not. It was a cry for help
I was gonna say smoke detector
I was also convinced that it was the smoke detector, but a) it clearly wasn't the one that was currently hanging from the ceiling, and b) Nest usually likes to talk to tell you what's going on
that it was at the bottom of an open box made it really hard to locate
Could be worse. Y'all ever been woken up in the middle of the night by an old Fuby with dyeing batteries that you forgot about in the back of a closet for years?
Sounds like hellspawn
once shined a red laser pointer into an OG firby
it turned demonic
and spoke jibberish
and would wake up completely randomly with no prompt
Alright, who wants to climb my roof and install solar panels?
set them out at the curb with a sign saying, "please install these on roof".. sure someone will take action
just lay them flat on the roof and call it a day
I'm scared to go up there lol, it's 3 floors off ground
I still get $5,000 worth of christmas lights im too chicken shit to install
I think "alive" is the word you're looking for
don't buy shit you cannot install yourself or afford to have someone else install it for you
almost paid someone to hang my xmas lights up this year cause I been too busy with other stuff but then thought I would be too busy to even look at the lights so it would be a waste to put up
Does anyone else think Atlassian and Gitlab need to just stay in their lanes
Like, Gitlab is a great repo and CI service
Jira and confluence are great tools
But when they try and do each others core services they fail hard
ok so is there any way to do fancyness with my rgb strips?
like fading in and out to turn on
and like sync to something
cause im also thinking of getting an addressable strip to play with
found @clear ferry replacement for HA https://youtu.be/aW2LvQUcwqc
The fictional Retro Encabulator device, which uses six hydrocoptic marzel vanes and an ambifacient lunar wane shaft to prevent unwanted side fumbling. We can't believe the salesman was able to keep a straight face.
Addressable > anything
I think I've overdosed on mSG
They sounded like hellspawn wlth new batteries too
3 floors up, ouch
Yeah, scarey stuff. long drop
I have about 4m from the lowest edge to the ground. No worries
3 floors + walkable attic, so almost 4 floors
But 3 stories isn't fun
Just remember
It isn't the falling that kills you
It's the landing
Can you anchor yourself to anything up there?
With a harness that stuff is a lot safer, as long as you have a spotter
If you fall and hang you have about 15 mins before damage to limbs from blood flow loss is a problem
Can the work be done with a mobile platform?
|| I remember once putting a ladder in an 8M scissor lift because we couldn't reach..... ||
Hahahaha
I have a card for all lifts, we can fix it next weekend if you like @left ore
You sort the lift and flights 🤣
hello
is someone here thay can help me with my tv, i have added my tv to homeassistat. but how i make a remote
Hey all. Anyone figure out a way to download an IP-TV m3u to linux with wget or curl?
http://domain.url:port/get.php?username=USERNAME&password=PASSWORD&type=m3u_plus&output=ts
@midnight adder #automations-archived or #frontend-archived
-/ before :port
@clear ferry frontend
Then... Go there?
i have installed a remote as script. so i see now a remote. but all buttons that i press even netflix, the tv turned off
someone here they can help me with that problem?
but what can i DO with them?
lol
i wana intigrate them with something
which is better for hass? VirtualBox, KVM, VMWare or Hyper-V
Virtualbox is fine for random testing, KVM is great if you are a Linux person, esxi is great if you are a vsphere person, hyperv is bile and shit
This is our shitpost den
Look up WLED projects and see what people do with them..
you can do really neat stuff with addressable lights. If fancy is what you're after, definitely go with some SK6812
these do look nice
one idea i really wanted to do, was to get a distance sensor for the stairway, or 2
and have an led strip on the curved stairway
so that the led light follows you down and up the stairs lighting your way
maybe if it's super late night it uses a red light instead of white
Sounds easy enough
ill find a way to fuck it up, dont worry
😉
if i could just get the tas hue bridge to work right with aura sync
so i could be "XXTRA"
Ey, just thought I'd bring to your attention that at least I couldn't get through your verification on mobile
ios, it just sent me on a loop as I pressed "ok, i understand" or whatever, saying the rules have changed and then I'm back at the rules again
worked well on desktop
Air quality monitor in pants. All leds go red if you fart
this is the best idea that has been pitched yet
Hello Friends,
We are a group of researchers at Florida Institute of Technology in the US. We have developed an add on that focuses on protecting the privacy of users on their MQTT devices. We are looking for participants to partake in a study we designed to evaluate our add on. Essentially you will be installing the add on and complete a few tasks we asked you to do. Your participation can help us improve our add on and thus help others use an improved version of it.

can also try proxmox as an alternative to kvm etc.
But proxmox runs kvm
proxmox seems to be pretty popular.. and it's basically debian with a gui right? no reason to be sick over it @clear ferry
tell me you're a greybeard without telling me you're a greybeard
If I only could grow a beard
it's ok.. beard's arent a personality
a lot of people missed that class in high school lol

yes its kvm .... but with flair!
just shave some off your ass and glue it to your face
It just points out who was dumb enough to pay for nitro

Lol
i got it gifted.. i cannot support discord's monetization policy with a good conscience
And here I thought those were all a scam
gif(t)
they basically force server owners to crowdfound for them instead of letting server owners buy w/e options they want
I had Nitro for a while when it was free for three months. Mostly just to spam kappa in this discord that doesn't have it for some reason
i bet it felt right tho
I would never give discord money for anything because they had blatantly lied when they started stating that they would never restrict features behind a pay wall
Just "advanced" features. I don't blame them, it seems like a good way to monetize the service without making the rest of us pay
Posting files bigger than 8MB would be nice, but I get why they would limit that. The emoji limit is a bit of a meme, but it mostly comes down to this server massively lacking on pepes. On most others I can usually find a suitable alternative 🙂
the emoji thing is dumb as fuck
the 8mb file thing is bullshit
what is funny is if you are on iOS client and take a picture from discord's app it wont let you post cuz it says >8mb
but if you take that same pic with camera app then upload via discord upload feature on discord ios app.. it works
some cute fuckery going on there
png vs jpeg probably
i'd bet money it's intentional
Yep. And if you go over to your computer, open up the image you posted, right click and copy it and then paste it in another channel it won't let you because it's too big 🤷
I yearn for the day when the ‘frequently used emojis’ are actually the ones I frequently use
yep
if you already have nitro you could make your own server and have simple names for w/e emojis you want
wonky workaround tho lol
we're probably feeding a giant nsa db with all our fun chats here anyways
not to mention the bad boiz with scraper bots
I'm pretty sure my takes aren't quite hot enough for the NSA bots, so it's something I can live with. You have to draw the line somewhere these days
i draw the line by not letting google/amazon on my lan
local camera storage only.. no cloud
no cams inside cuz that shit is weird
I've sold my soul to Google. They pay well with all the functionality they offer
there was an article that touched on what a person's "data" is actually worth and they figured out that it's roughly $35/mo
i fight the good fight as long as i dont have to go out of my way to do it
and even then.. i sometimes am willing
Even with nitro normal people can’t use emojis from other servers in this server
that's what i was saying 😛
so can wled be loaded on basicly anything tas can?
cause like i got those magic home rgbw strips
which if wled can do more things, like patterns and other functions i'd reflash it
Music momma
if those strips are not individual addressable wled won't do anything more than what tasmota can do
BUT, i dont see any patterns or softstart stuff in tas
you gotta add them yourself. same with esphome
sure there is a guide somewhere that tells you how to do it
Hi Everyone
not home automation related but wanted to vent
the builder of my new house wired my damn HVAC wrong
That why this is #the-water-cooler 🙂
have them fix it? Or does the contract not state proper installation?
How so?
House has a fresh air intake which is a outside vent that is damper controlled
Except it was wired in reverse
So it was closed when it should’ve been opened and vice versa
Pulled the spec sheet of the damper and the controller board to verify
Installation instructions show proper wiring
So I corrected it myself and verified it was operating as intended
mistakes happen
xD
rock is making a direct drop in replacement for the cm4. also making a daughter board that can handle 2.5G. that is gonna be sick
cm4 is pi4 🤔
🤢
you sick face everything but the cm4 with a proper router board makes a perfect router for openwrt or whatever
Hard pass
It might be good as a router for American 100/2 internet with datacaps sure
yea well your running a full rack that draws more power than an air conditioner on 24/7
And no additional services
whats this datacap you speak of? this a euro thing?
Nah, 'tis from the cradle of capitalism
you read too many comics
I haven't read comics in 20 years, so I find that hard to believe
I do read manga though
🤢
well your getting misinformation from somewhere unless your just pulling it out your bum lol
typical omicron cases started in cali.. godamn west coasters
Better get your vaccination numbers above 40% in the Midwest soon
Or else you are gonna be good as incubator for the next version
lol i like how that list of providers that have data caps are from providers i've never even heard of
got money all those providers are solely in alaska
xfinity and cox are the same provider and there is no cap.. they discussed it but there is no cap so that site ios wrong
my friend in NJ has that and his friend has xfinisty so I get updated on that ordeal often lol
isnt alaska part of murica?
yes and no
too many states! we get by with only a fraction of that!
I can only go by what all the other murica people tell me, I've seen a dozen people move of Xfinity recently because of datacaps and poor customer service
We had 19 when I grew up, now we have 11
Much easier
they did a testing thing at one point, cox did atleast where it was like in some cities but was not nationwide by any means
but it got canclled
we have 6 states and 2 territories - so pretty easy too. But we also have approx the same land mass as the US.
I don't blame Alaska for having datacaps i mean your talking in the middle of nowhere lol
a poofteenth of the population tho
But only the same population number if you count snakes and rabbits
you talking about russia?
oh we got LOTS of rabbits even with the snake population! I think they are sick of rabbit for tea lol
australia mate!
oh well you are not the same size as the us lol
alittle over a quarter smaller
Chello comrade chwitecheat
i would imagine much of the outback is as about as developed as Alaska as well
although with much easier access
7.6m square km versus 9.8m square km
Sounds right, everything is 20% bigger in the US to help with calorie intake
yeah - in alaska you freeze to death, in australia you cook to death or become snake fodder lol
just whats between our legs compared to the rest of the world
and yeah total population of country is less than one of your major cities
Actually your average is 10% above the global average @forest edge
Hey in some parts of aus you've got the sharks or the crocodiles 😄
but boy does she like that extra 10%
yeah Calmelb, but not in the outback as he was talking about
why the fuck is all the network shit out of stock
True
you look at routers, sold out, ap's sold out
Outback you’re gonna die of lack of preparation rather than anything else though
Covid or look elsewhere
Unless you’re buying some fancy shit they should be around
looking at the manufactures site
What stuff are you looking for
netgate, ubiquity, you name it
just looking around and seeing sold out on most shit
I guess the chip shortage is still in effect
Still?? Ha, we are going to see it well into next year
I would say it will still be affecting us in 2023 too. Not as badly, but it will take a long time to fix this level of backlog
Especially with everything from cars, computers, phones, tvs, washing machines, fridges, microwaves, etc all needing at least a single chip
We have no issues delivering standard model servers and networking
Different supply chains, different stock levels
It’s definitely affecting everything
(Hell I wanted to buy a microwave and there was barely anything in stock due to covid)
I haven't seen any issues in the electronic shops here
Raccoons can fix the washing machines needing chips problems. Just don't forget to feed us
What if they decide to steal the clothes 😄
It’s definitely an issue I’ve seen here. Even cars are super delayed because of it (friend had to wait 12 months for a new car, normally should’ve been 3 or so)
Time to put a mouth guard in you, no teeth to bite then
Cars are delayed yes, a XC90 was 6-8 months delayed
I aam dreading the new car thing. I have an Octavia on order
Do you play contact sports in your sleep? || I know that they can be for teeth grinding and stuff too ||
Having a three year old in the bed is almost a contact sport
Atx, the nighttime sport player
Got any kicks down where the sun doesn’t shine yet?
I know when I was a kid I managed to punch my dad there once, he told me when I was a lot older and I laughed 😂
For three years yes
🤣
thx for the point in the right direction
Lol this stupid scam again
Thanks for reporting.
i'm curious… how does that scam work?
ne problem
Probably ends up with requiring the code being emailed to you or something.
I've seen someone giving more "details they got after talking to support" where your account would be terminated in 12 hours or something unless you did whatever.
ah
they say they have reporrtet youon steam an you need to add a person on discord a valve supporter and the reporter wants pic of your game pourchase history and with this hey can somho get your steam acond from a real steam suporter or somthing like this
wow
and the discord acounts get compremised most of the times from FREE DISCORD NITRO scams

Oh cool I had a display in my dash I didn't recognize @last cedar
Apparently if another Volvo has registered slippery road somewhere I'm driving, my Volvo will notify my that there are slippery road conditions
Also if another Volvo has their emergency blinkers on in the direction I'm driving I also get a warning
That is awesome!
I will go put mine on, see if it lets you know
🤣
Volvo botnet rivals toaster botnet
@clear ferry
So happy with my 63,25 öre fixed price
Is anyone else getting DM's from @Rustam to be invited to a different server? They kinda look sketchy TBH, esp since one's in Russian <@&330946878646517761>
it's just a spammer, block those
does it tell you how far away?
Nope, just beware

Can anyone help a noob with installing the nest integration? something is not working for me and im really lost
Try #integrations-archived .No support here.
well that's dumb. your better off doing what many cars here do, if the outside temp and humidity is within the range to create slippery conditions then it just auto shows the warning lol
It does that too
car manufactures should just stop trying to create thier own ecosystem and instead just utilize something that's already wide spread like google maps
was watching a thing on the new ford f150 lightning coming out next year which is their first all electric truck and it uses something called ford pass which people have to pay monthly for and that is just infuriating
Lol
Like Audi etron
You have to pay monthly to have maps
And adaptive headlights

this is just for thier own version of crap, like finding suitable chargers nearby etc
nothing keeps people from just using something like android auto etc
infact most do that instead of the monthly crap, it's just the fact that they do those that is stupid
FordPass Connect (SYNC® Connect for select 2017/2018 vehicles) is the embedded modem that allows you to connect and control certain vehicle functions such as: Remotely...
I mean come on.. monthly to remote start your vehicle if you don't have the key fob? that is so dumb
Subaru is the same way. we just bought the remote start fob so we didn't have to pay monthly to remote start the forester but I think it's dumb they charge you like that for basic features used through a phone app
Still ouch as heck though
This makes me mad
You pay like 1M sek for a car
Thrn pay to unlock features
Like no, f you. Don't think I will. Thanks
I understand that you pay extra to upgrade a base model (once)
But not reccuring. They are not providing a monthly service to you for adaptive headlights, or a bigger battery
Maps on the other hand I can understand paying monthly for, someone must do something to update them
tesla has/had something like that. where you would pay a fee to unlock features for the car but if you ever sold it those features were turned back off.. shit is nuts
why the more tech gets poured into a vehicle the crappier it becomes
How long did you lock the price for @last cedar ?
ever wonder how some parts in your home and car are made? https://youtu.be/0SY_rnHqcqM
How Radiator Hose Pipe are Manufacture in Local Factory || Production Process of Radiator Hose Pipe
#rubberbraidedhoseproduction #manufacturingprocessofhosepipe #modernmachines
For headlights?! Jfc that should be standard and required in all cars
For matrix led yes
Jesus
Ford connect sound like utter trash as well. Let's hope the market kills it (ditto Audi)
The bookable periods range from monthly and yearly runtimes, through to permanent use are possible (depending on market).
Ohhhh fuck this
Rofl
ahh, yes. Child labour
leave it to Germany to build a car with features, charge consumers accordingly because the car has those features then expect them to pay a monthly fee just to activate those features you done paid for when buying the car lol
Said the guy from Tesla country
tesla is a black sheep
unlike audi and bmw that has been around for ages
none of our domestic car companies do anything that shady lol
we stole the idea from all the american hardware manufacturers :/
people buying all the subscription cross-financed stuff that undermines ownership of their hardware =.=
Also, mercedes did it first =.= With their rear axle turn assist
why would anyone do that?
we can buy our own if we choose lol
Not everywhere I've been told
there you go again.. talking about alaska lol
Like Sonos? Or Cisco? I avoid these kinda things, so I don't usually try to remember which ones they are
yea I think your mistaken or just confused
Cisco even calls it almost the same 😂
there isn't anything we have that has you pay for something with features then ontop of that expect you to pay even more to activate those features that I am aware of
Sure Cisco do that
like what
Switches
Additional advanced features
They have subscription licenses for switch ports on some devices
Per port
your talking commercial products?
which are already priced in the premium category fort what they are
$1000 per on the Nexus 6000
ok yea don't bring up commercial products as an example lol
cars are not commercial products
Everything is commercial in the end
your cotton candy lights aren't
oh right, Intel did it before as well
They did?
How are cars mot commercial products?
how are they commercial products?
you have vehicles that are for the public and then there are vehicles that are not for the public.. pretty clear seperation
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Upgrade_Service best I can find right now
The Intel Upgrade Service was a relatively short-lived and controversial program of Intel that allowed some low-end processors to have additional features unlocked by paying a fee and obtaining an activation code that was then entered in a software program, which ran on Windows 7.
The program was introduced in September 2010 for the Clarkdale-ba...
what the hell is "for the public" supposed to be here? Like military vehicles/generally available?
like semi trucks
the average person wouldn't buy nor really afford one.. they are mainly made for commercial use
yes. And other cars are used for commercial stuff as well. Outside maybe the "supercar" category. And probably even those
used in that manor is not the same as actually being placed in that catagory
Commercial product" means anything other than real property that is or has been offered for sale to the general public in standard or customized form.
So yes, cars
Or even simpler
amp 🤢
Amp 🤢
I expected better from you
appears you are really fishing because you don't like the fact that a non-american company is price gouging it's consumers lol
Not my fault you don't know English well enough to understand what commercial product means

Hm? I don't give a fuck. I just hope that both Mercedes and Audi fall flat on their face with that bullshit
