Wait in america can you transfer money between people for free? Since I've heard its not popular at all there

scenic radish
#

yeah

umbral cliff

(Like here if I want to pay a friend or pay a tradie I just get their bank details or phone number and pay, usually is in their account within 60 seconds)

We just do it in the bank app here, no third party stuff involved

umbral cliff

In some countries

#

Yes

#

I don't pay to use it abroad either

umbral cliff

Only third party thing here is what’s called EFTPOS or Osko, but that’s just a group effort by all the banks in australia

I actually have an old style roof antenna in my attic now for OTA television.

#

clear ferry

Is ota television in the US all digital too now?

pure tundra
#

I have the same but outside but it comes through the coax holes that the cable companies punched over the years

green inlet
#

Correct. All over coax

clear ferry
#

They killed the analogue TV distribution here over a decade ago, and FM was killed 5 years ago

green inlet

Yea, pretty sure OTA is all digital. I have had that antenna for close to 10 years now

yeah its atsc1.0 here for now which is digital

#

atsc 1.0 digital signals can be very low quality when they stuff a bunch of "channels" on one channel

The first thing I managed to do at the moment is with the help of the mount Windows folder group, which I see in the browser through the media files, and I also arranged the viewing of the cameras via Home Assistant. Here take some Steve Balmer

The system has up to 16 Cells, with CPU and memory, those can be connected to up to... 12 drawers if memory serves right

The HP Superdome is a high-end server computer developed and produced by Hewlett Packard Enterprise (formerly Hewlett-Packard). The latest version of product, "Superdome 2" was introduced in 2010. Superdome 2 scales from 2 to 32 sockets (up to 128 cores) and 4 TB of memory. When introduced in 2000, the Superdome used PA-RISC processors. Since 2...

Hmm @clear ferry would spending US$33 on a Xeon E3 1225 be worth it over the i5 currently in there?

E3

umbral cliff

(Keeping in mind im in good ol aussie land where everything is $$)

I'd just change to a recent i7

that said, the users who will buy it will just click install on 9000 addons anyway and bog it down to a misfit

umbral cliff
#

I was gonna say it could be useful as a one click setup, but a RPi is cheaper and would do that

#

For a very basic smart home setup

dusky plank

that was almost the point I had, I just used 5 cameras as examples

clear ferry

Now I have to order a EV charging box for my home though

gotta find the best bang for buck

umbral cliff

Look at you with a fancy EV

Here I am driving a 21 year old car (granted I am only 23 lol)

I did not buy an EV

#

I did buy a PHEV though

umbral cliff

Nice and cheap.... Ugh I hate how limited and pricy australia is

clear ferry
#

I will buy an EV as a second car in a few years probably

umbral cliff

Ah nice!

#

I would get an EV but theres limited charging support in Aus

#

I do however have plans to convert my car to be EV in the future sometime

Look at the optiplex 9020s or 7040s. I just got a 7040 mt i7 with 32gb of ram for under 300 shipped on eBay. The 9020 sff are very reasonable

umbral cliff

I wanted a PC with a full size slot, have an old optiplex too. They're still expensive here unfortunately

If you can get your hands on a HPE Edgeline 300 or 1000 those are also good options, especially the 1000 witha m710x cartridge

which is pathetic these days

And it's heavily overpriced

And it will stop updating in 4 years

umbral cliff

What do you mean about the 10%?

And the updating too? SInce apple is usually decent for update length

#

@trail crag Moving here.. its not a case of 'design' .. its more of a case whereby it 'works on debian' and not on anything else.

trail crag
#

@carmine geyser it works on anything else, it's just not supported

#

There aren't the resources to follow along with whatever choices other distros make

#

So a base was chosen, and even then, still not the intended project

carmine geyser
clear ferry
#

Is it? From someone who installs a couple of thousands servers per year, Ubuntu is not very common outside desktops

#

Do not mistake a computer for an actual server

#

Home assistant is server software

carmine geyser
#

people at home dont use Debian - they have a server and run multiple things on it

clear ferry
#

We don't?

carmine geyser
#

"You'

clear ferry
#

Lots of us have for over 20 years

carmine geyser
#

dont confuse 'You' with others..

#

I have a Cisco lab at home.. but I dont mandate people use Cisco at home

clear ferry
#

So you work in IT seeing hundreds of different customers environments per year?

#

Ubuntu isn't very common outside of desktops

#

And isn't great for hosting server stuff

#

At least not reliable

carmine geyser
#

I differentiate between 'Enterprise' and 'Home' ... not server and desktop... Enterprise is solid software, home is whatever the user wants within reason

clear ferry
#

Hosting something usually comes with requirements from the software vendor

#

In this case, debian

carmine geyser
#

Hosting yes... Home tinkering is something different

You do you

carmine geyser

differences in views.. thats what makes this world wonderful

And mostly the reason why I still have a well paid job

Damn, I missed today's argument

#

I like my choice of debian

clear ferry
#

It is the sensible choice

#

Or at least one of the sensible ones

umbral cliff
#

I just stick with Ubuntu because it’s the one I know best

Ubuntu is way better than debian for desktop

But for server use, debian all the way IMO

No

cursive veldt

I’ve been running with Ubuntu server. So, Debian is better for running openHAB, HA, frigate nvr , and other things?

clear ferry
#

It is a better choice overall for server based situations

#

Due to being more restrictive in packages / kernels and more

#

You want stable

Not latest

Alright, I’m going to dive into that. I’ll soon be changing from a pi to a actual PC.

I use a Coral AI accelerator

ok seperate processing

@scenic radish you start with io0 grounded and once started up do you take it out?

You can keep it connected during the flashing process, but you don't need to

It just needs to be grounded at boot

that will help with hands if i can
