Doesn't even need to be a good level shifter, just use 2 resistors to divide the voltage and throw a diode on there to protect the Pi.

Oh! one other issue with relays and logic is bounce

When the arm inside the relay engages, it doesn't stop moving immediately, which can lead to multiple small pulses going out as it bounces off the contacts inside the relay

Not a problem when you're turning on a lightbulb, but BIG problem when you're trying to use it for logic.

Each setup I'm making is customized to that computer, last one I did is a packard bell. A rf outlet for power on, the off code in ha will trigger the pi and then the pi will shut it down and wait then send the off code for the rf outlet lol

And the amount of bounce you get varies from relay to relay, and with wear, so some might work fine while others have issues. Some might start out working fine, but develop issues after a number of cycles.

DVB-T is one I guess

that is the most popular here, although I would say probably 60%+ is via fiber starting 2006 or so here

good old coax \ docsis all the way is basically dead, and since 2009 most installations were hybrid with both FTTH and coax deployed to new installations

Mostly docsis only lives in the bigger cities city core where it is too costly to redeploy ftth to old apartment complexes, and they do fttb and coax internally

Oh, I had to check ,we started turning off analogue transmission in 2008 for TV and 2016 for radio

it is all digital since

new landlines were phased out in 2009, and not possible to renew ptsn or isdn lines since 2019, with no option to get repairs on those if they fail going forward

3g networks were started powered off in 2019 and 2g is... supposedly powering down from 2022 it seems

3G is still in use here, for now, as is 2G. 3G will go sooner than 2G, but there's no fixed timescales AFAIK, just what individual operators decide on, based on the contracts they have.

I wouldn’t stop getting quotes till you are satisfied though....I had a main line break. First guy 17k new main line. Second guy 15k new main line. Third guy, I can scope it and if we find the leak, fix it, 750.00.

my main issue is the second company that quoted a lower price didnt think i needed to replace some ducts

even after i explained my scenario

basically there are not enough return lines and not enough air blowing over coils

so it blows too cold and literally water drips out of vents

on top of that.. unknown to me the evap drain line was clogged for years and only half ass unclogged

so taht was allowing even more water/moisture to go through ducts

so over time i think the metal ducts (rigid) have literally rusted out

which then allows for the insulation to get wet from where rust holes are

which then reduces r value

until bam, ceiling fell

i've done a LOT of research and there is just no way that the existing ducts arent completely fucked

further, both companies want to replace the rigid ducts between floors with fucking flex duct

which 1. cant be properly cleaned and 2. isnt suggested for long runs due to the design of it

(each riffle of flex duct acts as a little baffle and slows down airflow

however rigid duct is 3x more expensive according to both companies

literally the more i learn about my setup and the option i have the more i wonder about which candle would burn the place down faster
