cedar chasm
#

The Enterprise was real, and was travelling at relativistic speeds that whole time?

deft pewter
#

There aren't going to be many TOS actors around for much longer.

cedar chasm
#

They were on television, they are IMMORTAL!

deft pewter
#

Uhuru and Sulu are still around.

deft pewter
#

It's nuts to think that we're watching shows acted out by people that were born a hundred years ago.

#

DeForest Kelley (Bones) was born in 1920 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

clear ferry
#

Or more

deft pewter
#

Yeah. If you bring older movies into this, true

#

TOS is almost as old as atx.

cedar chasm
#

I watched Zack Snyder Justice League.
If you watch it in the "mini series" format, part by part, it's a totally non-offensive thing that exists

deft pewter
#

Non-offensive, yeah. Unentertaining... yup...

cedar chasm
#

Funny thing is I'm pretty sure I saw the first cut but I remembered like 15%

deft pewter
#

He's said it's not intended to be watched as a series. He intended it to be 4 hours of mindnumbing boredom in a single sitting.

cedar chasm
#

That's just silly

deft pewter
#

Haha. You only need to remember 15% of the original cut because that's about all the overlap there was.

cedar chasm
#

I remembered spoiler and spoiler

clear ferry
#

Reminds me of the Stephen king mini series of the 80s and 90s

cedar chasm
#

but not spoiler

deft pewter
#

My second biggest complaint (after the ridiculous length) is the amount of plot holes and unexplained back story. In a short movie, I could forgive that... in a 4 hour fucking long movie, why so many gaps?

cedar chasm
#

My main problem is I'm getting to old for this shit

deft pewter
#

Wife pointed out about 2 hours in that it wasn't even clear who the enemy was. Original cut had that nailed in the first act.

cedar chasm
#

Also, I get that they are people of action and can't wait for government intervention

#

but when they were firing missiles at that one point I was thinking, wouldn't you at least tell the worlds air forces that if they had any missiles to spare, they could fire them at the following coordinates, ktnx

#

An essential vigilante plot hole

#

If you are no longer involved in morally ambiguous vigilante justice, but world saving activities, you should try to widen the circle as much as you can or you just have a savior complex

deft pewter
#

It's funny. If you look online, there's so much praise from the fanboys that you'd think people unanimously think it's a masterpiece.

cedar chasm
#

It's one of those things..

deft pewter
#

It is indeed a thing.

cedar chasm
#

I keep up on Star Wars stuff because I have nephews and nieces.
If they end up embracing it, I'll still be "dialed-in" enough to be able to hold a conversation with them.

#

But it's been a while since I accepted a new Star Wars thing wholeheartedly

#

That extends to the Mandalorian, which it seems everyone loves

#

It had it's moments

deft pewter
#

What about everyone's favourite?

cedar chasm
#

but the adult in me had trouble suspending disbelief at key points

deft pewter
cedar chasm
#

In the current climate, I do not feel comfortable commenting on Jar Jar Binks

clear ferry
#

static schooner
deft pewter
deft pewter
#

I like the Mandalorian enough that I made the main motif of the theme tune my ringtone (for the 3 times a decade someone phones me).

#

I still haven't watched the second season.

cedar chasm
#

I mean, again, for the purposes of maybe connecting with my nephews/nieces, it's awesome.
For the purposes of my own sanity, there are so many episodes where I was like "but why didn't they just?!" "And how come that person just went really far out of his way for no apparent reason"

#

Oh to look upon the world with un-jaded eyes of a child

clever mortar
#

Run a DnD/similar campaign, and you'll realise that people do crazy ass stuff all the time

#

Yes, sure, we'll ignore all the obvious stuff in front of us, and go off on a wild goose chase that starts a world war

deft pewter
#

DnD?

clever mortar
#

Yes...

cedar chasm
#

Presumably the NPC-characters in the Mandolorian shouldn't be in it for teh lulz

clever mortar
#

That's fine, I'll summon a deep one to eat your SAN instead

cedar chasm
#

at least they don't realize that's why they do things

#

but this is taking a franchise for children/ young adults too seriously

#

bless anyone that finds joy in it

#

And keep bestowing blessings on the Disney Corporation, in their hour of great need

deft pewter
#

I don't think it was ever aimed at kids.

cedar chasm
#

Can't say for certain

#

When the marketers got the whiff of it, they retroactively turned it into a toy commercial

deft pewter
#

Meh. That's unfair. Of course they'll want to sell merchandise if it'll make money but the movies/shows themselves still stand on their own.

cedar chasm
#

Don't get me wrong, what you are saying is exactly how I feel about the original trilogy

#

From the Jar Jar-Saga I was out

#

and cynical

clever mortar
#

Eh, if I enjoy it I don't really care. Market the crap out of it and make money elsewhere ... doesn't bother me

cedar chasm
#

I also watch tons of commercially viable properties,

static schooner
#

This, as long as the marketing doesn't compromise the story. Sometimes it seems clear that elements are in the movie to sell toys

clever mortar
#

If I can suspend belief enough to enjoy Starship Troopers, after having read and enjoyed the book, I can handle a fair dose of embedded marketing ๐Ÿ˜›

Which theme park?

I need to go to the mario theme park in Japan

#

That opened last year

cedar chasm

Haven't been but at least some Universal resorts look awesome

#

that actually made me to put bunch of movies to the watchlist with the kid

deft pewter
# cedar chasm Which theme park?

The ones in Orlando are great. We'll be going again in a couple of years, so there'll be plenty of Star Wars stuff and maybe the new Nintendo stuff.

#

I think the Nintendo park in Orlando is delayed though, so we could miss it.

cedar chasm
#

sigh, travelling

deft pewter
#

Yeah. I vaguely remember it

lapis cipher
#

There was some behind the scenes document i watched about Orlando, it was really cool. One reason was the Harry Potter there, i had flights and hotel already for the last summer to visit London for Potter stuff with the kid

deft pewter
#

I don't actually like the Harry Potter movies much and I've never read the books but the parks are amazing.

#

Getting to ride the Hogwarts Express is fun ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Last time we were there, the newest ride had just opened. Hagrid's Motorbike Adventure or something. Great fun.

lapis cipher

Kid is all into those, has watched all the movies several times and is now reading the books. we also just made one jigsaw puzzle,...

#

IMO the movies are alright and i am happy to visit studios, i've heard nothing but good so very much waiting for myself too, some year..

clear ferry

The Orlando stuff looks good, but I'll wait till my daughter is at least 8 for those I think

#

We will probably go to the Japan ones before that

@magic basin does this battery bank allow passthrough prower ?
I was looking for something that could power my fiber to copper, but i didn't know any powerbank that actualy work as a ups

subtle pasture
#

I just went with an actual APC UPS for all my hardware. They're dirt cheap used. Toss in a new battery, and off you go.

forest edge
#

ebay?

subtle pasture
#

ebay, or just wait for your workplace to toss one. I did the latter

#

My office has the policy of "if the battery dies while the unit is out of warranty, replace the entire unit"

#

So plenty of perfectly good 3 year old UPSs wind up in the e-waste pile

lapis cipher
hushed basalt
subtle pasture
#

I think the biggest issue with battery banks is the fact that your equipment has no way to tell how much runtime is remaining, or if the unit is operating on wall or battery power, and can't initiate a safe shutdown automatically based on these conditions

#

They also have no facilities for automatic safe bring-up of equipment, no way to set minimum charge on the battery before output is allowed, etc.

lapis cipher
#

If that's a requirement then no, banks won't do it, they are mostly good to level the power and handle short outages or moving things around. Suits my current needs perfectly

forest edge
#

yea on non critical situations on something like an rpi the inability to safe shutdown isn't as much of a concern, more benfits than faults

#

I wouldn't put it on my HA but would like on a media client etc

lapis cipher
#

i only added the bank as my psu is crap, it makes raspi happy and also it doesn't drain the battery so the crappy psu is enough. China screwed up my order for better psus after many months so had to fix it somehow

And yeah I think technically not 100 legal in my country either since it's recording the road in front of my house but at the same time no other way to record my front door and my garage door

I never share any of the footage publicly anyway. But seeing him throw PCBs or once it was bulbs over a significant distance off the road to the balcony got me quite angry

i can ping wireguard clients from lan but I can't ping to lan from wireguard clients. http and everything else works.

anybody know what I'm missing? (OPNSense)

fiery sorrel
#

sorry, didn't read to the end

glacial knot

without seeing your firewall rules: no
might be something dumb, like forward accepting inet from wireguard to lan, and all lan to all nets. so icmp gets dropped from wireguard to lan, because it's in neither

dusky plank

looking at how I can export them rules...

fiery sorrel

a lot of people allow "tcp/udp" but forget ICMP

dusky plank

yup

Using hybrid outbound NAT @dusky plank ?

ICMP was missing in the rules

icmp is often misunderstood, even blocked on purpose as evil

fiery sorrel

ohno ! that break internet routing !

glacial knot
#

sadly a lot of people don't understand icmp and block it :/
There's like 2 messages that are worth dropping though iirc.

lapis cipher

even isp's have done that and blocked traffic with whatever excuses

fiery sorrel
#

ISP .. breaking internet ... look ok to me

lapis cipher

on one case they stated "ping has been blocked" while it turned out to be that types 8 and 0 worked (ie. "ping") while rest didn't.. i guess the bar wasn't high when hiring network engineers..

You can mitigate the issue somewhat by using a nicer SSD, but you'll have to hunt for one that actually has a capacitor backed write cache

Yeah, blocking specific ICMP messages makes a lot more sense than blocking it wholesale

Like, as an example, you can disable ping response without killing all ICMP traffic
