agree @noble pivot - part of me wonders if someone is keen. my thought initially is to charge a % of hardware costs, and some time to sit down with them and help get set up, and hand over the keys (more of a consulting gig - if they are technical enough) - in a tech bubble here, so chances not terrible

That would depend on how old the "original" devices were, if you could still get tham and what was available at the time. Tech dont stay still for long. You might not replace working devices but that does not mean you would buy the same again.

Basically, if you're seeing transcoding on your own local network, you're trying to play a codec your client device doesn't support, and Plex is fixing it for you.

Squishing it drastically reduces the final video quality in a lot of cases, and leaving it as-is requires the video player actually read the aspect ratio flag...

Plex actually maintains a database of profiles for each client, and transcodes when deemed necessary. Can you check which profile Plex is loading for your device?

You can edit it on the server side if you believe the devs got it wrong, it's just XML

#

You may also be running into Plex using the device's native media player, while Kodi uses its own internal media player (which allows them to direct-play more formats using software decoding)

i'm old enough to be able to admit if i screwed up myself but this was a fully functional device at the roof on a mast with no changes since initial setup and it started to cut out connection couple of times (either that or the provider, hard to say at this point, monitoring was subpar at the moment) and then failed completely, the device seemed to have done some hard reset to itself.

Most providers also don't seem to much care anything further from their infra so it was actually quite amazing to be reporting issues with their network connectivity when they didn't see it themselves. This was a problem for us because the sold us both co-location/hosting AND the internet connectivity so from a customer point of view it was their fault anyways (nor we can report issues of the isp straight to isps)

Hi all, new here. I am weaning off of Wink and decided to go with HA. I am on my 4th and successful attempt to get HA up and running. The trial and error process has been valuable as well as all of the online info readily at hand. 1. Don't bother with Windows and a VM due to trouble with consistent USB detection/assignment. 2. Using a PI-3, works very well but I started with an old Micro-SD and it was taking a long time to do anything. 3. I bought a fast A2 V30 Micro-SD and learned it is an absolute must. 4. Snapshot restore on a new install works! Up and running and learning as I go. I have a handful of devices moved over and now to tackle the 20 or so Lutron Caseta devices and automations. Challenging, yet fun and rewarding.

Hey all... i am very new to home assistant its been probably 3-4 months... i was using dunkdns port forwarding to access my home assistant... yesterday someone tried to login to my home assistant I got a failed login alert... i freaked out and stopped duck dns and went back to my ip address way of accessing... is ip adress way of accessing safe? If your all up to date with security patches, have good quality passwords etc you should be fine. as Tinkerer says, dont panic. I look at my logs I have probaly 50-100 login attempts per day to my stuff at home.
