#

Oh

#

And opn does?

#

And what would you do with such an integration?

#

I am not interested in displaying a lot of useless statistics, but using as presence detection for certain ip addresses could be very useful

#

Was using the tp link integration until I broke it, so not used it for ages

light trout
#

But that could expand!

#

I have some ideas for it πŸ˜„

last cedar
#

Okay well that is fantastic

#

I would like to see a possible integrstion if using nut server to pull statistics from a UPS

#

Might be able to do that via smtp into opnsense though

#

I only have USB into the router

#

So no network card in the UPS

light trout
#

There are some guides for NUT for OPNsense on their forum

last cedar
#

Yeah, I need to do some research, I realise that

clear ferry
#

opnsense > pfsense

#

I've run pfsense for 15+ years

last cedar
#

I have a current setup that I am migrating atm, a long process

clear ferry
#

they've been overrun by enterprise and greed, so they favour very stale update cycles and no fun

last cedar
#

I have used it for maybe a year and a half, been very happy, but thr community is a lot bigger for pfsense,

#

I guess I am staying opn then

clear ferry
#

mostly any guide for pfsense will work on opnsense

#

just the fact that they have wireguard native is enough for me, nothing wrong with pfsense, they just don't do fun stuff anymore, and if stuff isn't fun

#

we throw it away

last cedar
#

Aha! I have only played with openvpn, no other form of vpn or such

#

I wanted a way in, to my camera server, thinking I might go stunnel though for that

clear ferry
#

I pull NUT statistics from freebsd and raspberry pi , NUT is NUT, so it will probably pull it fine from opnsense too

#

I ran OpenVPN site2site for 10 years, great stuff for that, for road warrior wireguard makes at lot more sense

last cedar
#

It is just a fun thing, if I can't get it to work, no biggie. I was just interested in power draw, but it will be fairly linear

#

Road warrior, as in connecting back to your server at home whilst traveling?

clear ferry
last cedar
#

Not site a to site b

clear ferry
#

Yeah, road warrior == mobile phone \ laptop on the go, from anywhere

last cedar
#

Ah, najs

#

Or as you say. Drit najs

clear ferry
#

We don't say najs at all 🀣

last cedar
#

Your ups batteries are smol

#

Hahaha

clear ferry
#

Yeah, it's only a 1200 and 2200VA unit

#

Oof, and a single AA battery, it seems

clear ferry

I think the runtime numbers are... not accurate

#

🀣

last cedar

I got a 1000VA/800W APC, seems good

#

Yeah :P

#

Thanks for the insight anyway

#

Need to update the ipmi and bios on it. Swap battery, swap psu and hsf

clear ferry
#

I was wondering about the load on my garage ups, it was spiky, but then I remembered I have my 3d printer attached to it

last cedar
#

Gonna run the 340W platinum psu. I have nothing smaller

clear ferry
last cedar
#

Oh, yeah, I guess that can vary a lot

#

Wow

clear ferry

but it is good not to have to throw away a 32 hour print...

Looks like an ekg. Is your 3d printer alive?

#

I'm drinking coffee

last cedar
#

Why drink coffee when there is tea....

#

🀣

light trout
#

I could answer that, but tikerer might ban me

deft pewter
#

Because coffee is the superior beverage.

last cedar
#

Superior on the inferior scale

#

I like how coffee smells, before it gets wet. But that is about it

deft pewter
#

What about eating coffee? I don't have them often (only when I'm somewhere with Ye Olde Sweet Shoppe type places) but chocolate coated coffee beans are delicious.

#

I always eat too many at once and getting a little too excitable though 🀣

last cedar
#

I mean I do drink instant cofee

#

Not tried eating it though

#

I have maybe 1 cup every 3 months ish

deft pewter
#

Ah, there's your problem... instant coffee tastes like πŸ’©

#

Espressos all the way.

dull belfry
#

More espresso, less depresso

deft pewter
#

Well you're bound to be depressed without espressos

dull belfry
#

πŸ™‚

deft pewter
#

I've never understood Irish coffees. I love coffee, I love alcohol... but both in the same glass?

#

And I know it's not as extreme as mixing alcohol with prescription drugs... but you're still taking a stimulant and a depressant at the same time πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

dull belfry
#

Hmm... never thought of that before πŸ˜„ Makes sense

deft pewter

You can even mess up with herbal remedies...

Combining St. John’s wort and certain antidepressants can lead to a potentially life-threatening increase in your body’s levels of serotonin, a chemical produced by nerve cells.

#

@last cedar my power company yes

#

They swap between power companies based on who is the cheapest at a given time

#

Saves me 30-70% yoy

last cedar
#

@clear ferry but it is smart meter based and via api right?

#

They were talking about 2025 when meters were going api based (or possible to api) in Sweden

clear ferry
#

All norwegian meters have a smart HAN plug

#

And power companies have to give the consumer access

#

I paid NOK500 for a premade plug that does that for me

deft pewter

So that's like... Β£3.50?

clear ferry

Β£40 ish smart

clear ferry

Dual power and reliable storage would be a minimum from me

last cedar
#

For a HA box?

clear ferry
#

The first can be passed if it atleast has reliable power

#

If it's going to run my whole house, yeah, it's gotta be 24/7 redundant

last cedar
#

Oh, you were thinking like that, for a whole house.

clear ferry
#

A SoC will never deliver that tbh

last cedar
#

I think solar panels and batteries would be my choice, as things look right now, if I needed that

#

And a generator for longer outages

clear ferry
#

If power is gone there is no use in making it smart anyway

last cedar
#

Smart but dead

#

A solar array is on my house bucket list, not gonna lie

dusty hull
#

On a completely unrelated note. What do any of you think about a product/service that would cost say one-time $15 to be able to run a personal version of tuya cloud that would integrate into HA and other hubs or standalone windows/Linux service to use any tuya device without cloud and China server requirements

clear ferry
#

I would just buy another product

#

That was local

last cedar
#

I personally would go with a non cloud product, over a cloud product with a hack

Or flash the device with tasmota by breaking it open

dusty hull
#

Those comments make me feel old, lol

last cedar
#

Age is just a number

#

Sometimes a very large number

#

Well, I would still personally prefer local only

clear ferry
#

I purposely don't buy cloud products or services

last cedar
#

I don't really feel good with cloud based stuff. But I think most normal people want convenience, most people here want stuff to do as much as possible and don't mind getting their hands dirty (generally)

dusty hull
#

Reason I ask is that, for extreme users only purchasing local only products or reflashing firmware isn't an issue. But they're is a market I believe for beginner to intermediate users that don't want to do that kind of stuff but still want the control of not sending anything to the cloud at all

clear ferry
#

$15 would be too steep anyway, heck $5 would be to steep for such a service

deft pewter
#

So the idea is to buy something cloud-based and then pay someone else even more money to not have it talk to the cloud? πŸ€”

#

Better to buy something local in the first place.

Nvidia has already said it's going to support AMD + Intel + PCIe 3.0 and up

@clear ferry I'm with you on smart locks. Nobody seems to make the product I actually want...

#

I want a smart lock where you can read the current state remotely, and lock it remotely, but not unlock it remotely... like I want it to be mechanically incapable of being unlocked by anything but a normal key

I don't object to remote unlock, but I'd want it to require physically being enabled

Then for the 99.999% of the time I don't need it, it couldn't work

subtle pasture

I'm also a little surprised nobody has made add-ons for locks to just... read their state

The battery life on something like that would be extremely long compared to motorized smart locks

clear ferry

Or just a drop in lock mechanism that only read the state

#

Not with a motor

#

My wife would love that, she always wondered if she locked

subtle pasture

subtle pasture
last cedar
#

How does it look from the side?

#

A single unit, or 2 seperate?

subtle pasture
#

2 seperate

last cedar
#

Must be a states side thing, we only use seperate when it is an extra lock (usually higher up)

subtle pasture
#

So you'd need to monitor that mechanism ^

last cedar
#

Yeah. It isn't a cheap solution but a motorised deadbolt would do

#

And connect it in such a way that the voltage feeding the lock is broken when the bolt is out

subtle pasture
#

Unless all you want/need is monitoring, in which case a motorized deadbolt is overkill (and has poor battery life)

shadow wren
#

if only Wyze had an api

last cedar
#

In which case you can lock it, but only unlock it by hand

shadow wren
#

then i would buy a wyze lock

last cedar
#

That would be a cable, no battery (only as backup if mains fail)

#

A proper motorised deaddbolt solution should have a seperate box called a dac

subtle pasture
#

A cable?

last cedar
#

Yeah

subtle pasture
#

Into the door?

#

Into a giant moving part?

last cedar
#

From lock to the dac

#

A not so giant moving part :P

subtle pasture
#

You generally don't run cables into doors, actuating the door will eventually break the cable

last cedar
subtle pasture
#

I haven't seen a single motorized deadbolt that doesn't run on batteries exclusively

last cedar
#

Stranded cable, and use a metal spiral channel to minimise wear

subtle pasture
#

Yeah, that's a non-starter, lol

last cedar
#

We have installs that wear out the lock after 10 years of heavy use. Honestly, vandalism is the only reason I ever swap a cable

subtle pasture
#

There's no power run to the door (for obvious reasons)

last cedar
#

Yeah, I get that :)

#

There are products that do what you want, but it gets very very involved

subtle pasture
#

And fitting that into an existing door would require... a ton of drilling... and doesn't fill the pre-existing deadbolt hole

last cedar
#

Yeah. We normally modify the hole in the door, and or matching frame.

#

Drill in from hinge side to meet the lock body

#

I think I will use those assa 580 locks in the door. Or a step 40 in the frame. Frame is less work though

subtle pasture
#

This is a double-door. The lock goes into another door, not a frame

#

So.. there's another wrinkle. lol

last cedar
#

You could just put a contact in the other door, a simple microswitch that closes when the bolt pushes on it (door is locked)

subtle pasture
#

or a company could just make a deadbolt with an integrated zigbee contact sensor >_>

last cedar
#

Still an involved installation though

#

Yeah, that too

#

How about a zigbee magnet contact on the door, and a strong magnet on the end of the deadbolt. Depending on the thickness of the door?

#

So when the bolt is out contact closes

subtle pasture
#

I posted a photo from someone else above who did just that

last cedar
#

Oh, will have a look

subtle pasture
#

Ugly, but effective

last cedar
#

Oh, yeah, nice

#

You could maybe drill the hole a little deeper and hide it in the door

#

But yeah, the majority of our installs are either done by pulling the status of the bolt from the lock

#

Or by pulling the status of the bolt from the frame

deft pewter
#

I don't think I could ever trust a raccoon for electrical advice.

It is a great shame we don't have racoons in Scandinavia tbh

brazen fable
#

I'm just gonna chime in and say my schlague zwave dead bolts have fantastic battery life

shy comet
#

mine go well over a year on 4 AA batteries

#

and on top of that i have 2 weeks or longer of low battery notifications before they are dead dead

midnight adder
#

I think I went through the initial set pretty quickly, but replaced with the li-ion AA and they've probably been going a year now.

#

I like the schlage locks as well

shy comet
#

im just using energizer batteries

#

had duracell previously and they lasted a while too

subtle pasture
#

Quick note about lithium ion AAs: You won't get nearly as much warning before they die

#

The voltage doesn't slowly decrease over time like it does on a regular AA battery, it stays relatively flat, then falls off a cliff. lol

shy comet
#

teh schlage locks do a really good job at annoying you to replace the battery when its low

#

the lock beeps at you for 5 seconds flashing an orange light before unlocking each time

subtle pasture
#

Fun fact: The original Furby has no hardware voltage regulation. It periodically spins its motor, checks how long it took to move from one indexed location to another, and then speeds up or slows down program execution based on the returned speed:

#

Yes, that's Furby source code

shy comet
#

wow lol

subtle pasture
#

That's also why Furby starts to sound like a hell nightmare when the battery runs low. Elsewhere in the code, it syncs overall execution speed with the detected motor speed to keep lip-sync working, and if it can't spin the motor fast enough (due to a nearly flat battery) the sound starts to slow down. It has no ability to time-stretch the audio, so the playback starts to break up.

Has anyone ever made a health check for themselves/family

#

ie. Answer a prompt twice a day, otherwise family will get an alert

#

I would have thought it would have been an app but I can't find anything. I might be searching for the wrong phrases though

clever mortar
#

Haven't seen that, but with integration of sensors around the house, the mobile device, and maybe your smart watch/fitness tracker it should be possible to spot abnormal behaviour

clear ferry
#

people would freak out if I didn't send a meme for a day or two

hushed basalt
#

I'm just thinking for people who live alone, especially the elderly or those taking care of small children,

#

It's good to have a health check that sends up a flare if something goes wrong

clear ferry
#

we had a case last year where a mother and her two daughters were dead in an apartment for two weeks before anyone noticed they were gone

#

we are talking about kids in the age of 10-15

hushed basalt
#

Gas leak?

clear ferry
#

nope, apparent suicide by poisoning

hushed basalt
#

Murder suicide from the mother?

clear ferry
#

possibly, uncertain

hushed basalt
#

I mean, a health check wouldn't stop intentional stuff obviously

#

But my great grandmother was trapped on her floor for over a day when she fell

#

Could of been longer if we didn't live next door

clear ferry
#

had a collegue who lived in an apartment, his neighbour died and was laying in the summer for... over a month

#

he thought the other neighbours cat was pissing in the hallway

#

because the smell was seeping in through his door

hushed basalt
#

Motion sensors would definitely be a lot less obtrusive than a button or mobile prompt but they run the risk of false positives from pets and small children

clear ferry
#

modern motion sensors can be adjusted to not detect pets and small children

#

or... any motion sensor from the last 25 years

Spent $30 on 900grams of shredded 'cheese' today

Dairy/egg/wheat free is so expensive

#

Would be nice to get some of that Norway subsidies for this,

dull chasm
#

is it still cheese?

hushed basalt
#

Well it's made from soy milk instead of cows milk

#

So yes-ish

dull chasm
#

ok so like a steak without the cow

hushed basalt
#

eh, worldwide being able to handle dairy is the exception not the norm

#

It's only really people descendant from Northern Europe that can handle it

dull chasm
#

i would not tell the middle east people that....i saw plenty of milk and wheat turned into bread ... actually some pretty damn good stuff

hushed basalt
#

Fermentation also breaks down the lactose

dull chasm
#

man i would really love to have some pita ....they drank mostly goats milk ...i dont know if thats lactose or not

hushed basalt
#

I'm lactose intolerant but I can handle a lot of yoghurt etc,

#

But my daughter is allergic so it's a no go

#

which she funnily enough inherited from my anglo-saxon/british wife

#

So my daughter is quite possibly lactose tolerant but the dairy allergy trumps that all

dull chasm

Atx, are you using motion eye?

Which camera settings are you using for casting to Google home?

If someone can share his/her camera integration for motion eye, uses duckdns ssl and is able to cast, please share to me in #cameras-archived

hushed basalt
