It's nice of the passengers to wait until daylight to get injured. Emergency personnel work so hard. They don't need the extra hassle of working late.

wtf is the difference between a UK english keyboard layout and a US english keyboard layout? Looking at one in a video and I cannot spot the diffrence lol

clever mortar
#

£ vs #

#

And others

deft pewter
#

And US puts the @ in the wrong place.

forest edge
#

it dosen't use the the shift + number keys?

#

nm it does

deft pewter
#

Yeah, all keyboards do

forest edge
#

yea thats wierd, looks like those few things only

#

surprised they continue to manufacture for that

deft pewter
#

Enter key is often smaller on US keyboards, giving a little more room for non alphabet keys over on the right

wet pilot
#

a few of the symbols move around in interesting ways. Made things fun when controlling a screen through webex

its silly because everything is mostly the same but its the misses that are fun when you are trying to use a cli

#

weirdest one was working with a Danish customer. Their standard layout is super weird 😄

#

that guy had both key-sets enabled in windows though and would quickly flip to US QWERTY if i needed to do anything

clear ferry

@deft pewter we dont

We do altgr+2

Pi 🤢

deft pewter
#

If a Pi 4 can handle HA, just imagine what a Pi 400 can do.

#

Literally 100x more Pi.

deft pewter
#

I'm seeing those Pi 400's advertised as 'only $70'. Meanwhile, they're £95 in the UK.

#

Even after taxes, that's one hell of a jump.

100 x 💩 is still 💩

deft pewter
#

You beat atx to it

#

That was very... quick maff

mossy badge
#

So this might be a stupid question, but while trying to connect a pc fan (3pin) to my rpi 4, I got some smoke from the fan. Now im not able to get any ip, or any display on the screen when trying to connect the rpi 4. I tried flashing many different memory cards, also tried swapping from one memory card which worked on a rpi zero to rpi 4 and that gave me a ip from the zero but not on the pi4. Did I fry the pi when I messed with the fan?

clever mortar
#

You let the magic smoke out 🎉

clear ferry
#

@forest edge apparently 0.1 per 100k deaths here now per day, compared to 3 for UK and 8 for france

#

So we are apparently blooming

mossy badge
#

@clever mortar So connecting things to the GPIO pins can actually fry a raspberry pi ?

clever mortar
#

If you short the wrong things...

#

5V going where it's not supposed to go is bad

mossy badge
#

So this is what I did, I connected a 12v computer fan with 3 pins on the gpio. the pi was connected with 5v 3a power adapter

#

then smoke came out from the fan..

clever mortar
#

Well, which pins kinda matter 😉

light trout
#

naaaaah

clever mortar
#

Also, whether a 12V fan would work... 🤷

mossy badge
#

hehe.. So I used the 5v and the ground and maybe I switched them around...

#

Didnt think that those pin was that sensitive.. damn

#

That was a waste of 100$

fathom sparrow
#

pretty much all circuitry is not meant to have voltage/current go through it backwards.

mossy badge
#

but there is no current in the fan?

#

I mean that is just connected, there wasnt any external power on that

fathom sparrow
#

but if you line pins up incorrectly it sends current down the wrong path

It's a real shame you sobs can't hear me play monkey Island themes with church organ right now

deft pewter

Is she not a bit young for you?

clear ferry

pss, she is the same age as me 🤣

doing her masters in her mid 30s yall

deft pewter
#

As a Brit, 'school work' is something you do when you're in compulsory education.

clear ferry
#

Is it not compulsory when you need it to get the job you want though ?

#

🤔

deft pewter
#

'job you want'? Nah

clear ferry
#

I need to start working on my christmas lights soon

#

so they are done till christmas

#

or done until dec 1 would be the goal

deft pewter

You doing DIY stuff?

clear ferry

Yeah, I have 900ish WS2811

plus a couple of hundred WS2812

#

And I need to find time to buy christmas presents to tink and the boys

deft pewter

I'm looking foward to seeing what you do.

32x32 at a guess.

clear ferry

deft pewter

Nope... those are 8x8 🤦‍♂️

forest edge
#

@clear ferry you gonna buy a lot of those matrix and put them together to create a jumbotron to watch 24 hour trains in your back yard?

clear ferry
#

Not a bad idea

#

I should power down my greenhouse soon though

#

but suddenly we have 12c degree weather

forest edge
#

lol power down. you should stop heating your outhouse from the sheer heat of too much voltage flowing through too small of line

clear ferry

psssh, power is $0.003 per kwh

#

I'll survive

are you using dig uno for the leds @clear ferry ? I just built a few myself which makes it very easy to set up LED strips

hey, totally unrelated to anything. What is the going rate for the Tooth Fairy these days? our oldest just lost her first tooth today
@ebon heath there is a going rate? i hope parents aren't slipping hundreds under kids pillows lol

@shy forge If you want to show your appreciation through money, Nabu Casa is the way to go, I believe.
@low harness THX

ebon heath
#

i dunno, i feel like i got a dollar worth of quarters in ~1987 when i lost my first, so with inflation that is just like $2.50 or something today

low harness
#

In Sweden it used to be a 10 kr coin (about US$ 1) because that was somewhat "golden".

forest edge
#

f that put a quarter under there

ebon heath
#

well i have $1.25 in coins, or a $2 bill my grandma gave me probably 25 years ago

low harness
#

That may still be the color if the 10 kr coin... I can't remember last time I used physical money, and most or all coins were replaced a few years ago.

forest edge
#

coins made sense cause back then they were actually silver. paper money makes no sense at all

low harness
#

We also used to put the tooth in a glass of water. Putting it under the pillow always seemed strange to me.

ebon heath
#

a gold coin seems like a good idea, and somewhat novel

clear ferry
#

Yeah, last time I used physical money in Norway was.... Probably 2007

forest edge
#

@clear ferry didn't think you guys could afford physical money

clear ferry
#

Come back to me on Wednesday

low harness
#

Actually, my father in law keeps sending me money for my birthday. Really anoying - can't get rid of the stuff, so I just pile it on the desk most of the time.

#

I also keep a coin around to open my apple keyboard to replace the batteries, but that's it.

forest edge
#

I always keep some cash around, came in handy on several occasions. not everything takes credit cards or checks lol

ebon heath
#

with the power outages here in california i tend to keep a bit of cash on hand just in case, but yeah rarely ever use it

low harness
#

For those few occasions we have a service where you can send small payments to a phone number.

#

Many small shops don't accept cash around here anymore.

#

Taxis and stuff wouldn't touch it with a 3 m pole.

forest edge
#

weird, small shops here actually prefer cash over credit lol

#

but they take credit, most the time the cash is for person to person transactions, craigslist etc

#

then there are the occasional vending machine or whatever

#

altho I have noticed those take credit cards now too, many of them

ebon heath
#

the other thing, we're thinking of starting to give the older kid an allowance to start to teach her about money

deft pewter
#

$20/week 👍

ebon heath
#

lol, i guess we're poors cuz theres no way they're getting $20/week

deft pewter
#

How old are we talking?

ebon heath
#

she's 4.5

forest edge
#

lol allowance. make them get a job that is the best way to teach about money

#

4 and half is plenty old enough for stick pick up lol

deft pewter
#

At that age, they don't need an allowance. Just give them a couple of dollars when you go to a store. Get them to work out what they can/can't afford with it.

ebon heath
#

yeah i was thinking of doing like a Chores board and if she does all the chores she earns her allowance

deft pewter
#

I don't think I got an allowance until well after 10 years old.

forest edge
#

I never got one at all

deft pewter
#

Yeah, it's not unusual to not have one. You'll always hear about the ones that do, mostly because they'll brag about it.

ebon heath
#

my dad used to pay me a nickel for every pine cone i cleaned up before he mowed the lawn. until i found the huge pile where he dumped the pinecones in the woods and filled up from there

deft pewter
#

I see so many kids at malls buying pretty expensive stuff without their parents around. It's crazy.

#

They certainly don't appreciate money.

forest edge
#

like grade schoolers with smartphones lol

ebon heath
#

she has a piggy bank with coins shes found or we've given her from time to time, i dont think she's ever spent money yet

deft pewter
#

I could afford a new phone every year. I still only get one every 3-4 years. Giving a schoolkid a new phone? Hell no.

clear ferry
#

I always keep some cash around, came in handy on several occasions. not everything takes credit cards or checks lol
@forest edge
Actually everything does, even kids who collect money for school trips take money by mobile

forest edge
#

thats messed up

clear ferry
#

And stores disencourages use of physical money above $100 unless absolutely necessary

forest edge
#

on so many levvels

#

a world where everything is digital will turn into a nightmare one day

clear ferry
#

Yeah, I don't see physical money coming back here ever, it'll die out with the current 60+ers

ebon heath
#

i only pay for things with gold bullion

clear ferry
#

Mostly anything is digital here already, I don't receive physical letters anymore, only actual mail I get that isn't parcels is new credit and debit cards

#

All bills and communication from companies are email or digital mailboxes

deft pewter
#

What's the difference between email and digital mailboxes? 🤔

clear ferry
#

All medical documents are in my digital mailboxes

deft pewter
#

Like... having to log in to an account on their site?

ebon heath
#

my mom sends the girls homemade post cards every week, thats about the only physical mail we get that isnt junk

clear ferry
#

@deft pewter government run digital mailbox for anything sensitive

deft pewter
#

Our government is full of luddites. We're only just moving to online tools.

clear ferry

I still have nightmares about online banking in Ireland

#

It was in 2007 like online banking in Norway in 1997

deft pewter
#

They have money in Ireland?

#

I thought they still bartered potatoes.

clear ferry
#

Don't mess with the boxty @deft pewter

forest edge
#

no currency at all is scary to me. I get the ditch the penny effort and all but I like having some cash around

deft pewter

No paper currency isn't the same as no currency.

#

I'd gladly be free of paper money. Hate having to carry it just in case.

clear ferry
#

Sonoma is a gray from the city of lud though@deft pewter

forest edge

physical currency is what I meant

clear ferry

I use physical currency when I travel, just because it is fun

But seriously, haven't used it here since 2007

clever mortar

While I usually have some money in the wallet, I almost never spend cash

deft pewter

I still prefer to use card when traveling.

forest edge
#

@clear ferry so what do you when you want to pay the neighbors 12 year old kid for mowing your yard? ask for thier paypal account?

clever mortar
#

The only time I have has been at the coffee shop by the office

clear ferry

@forest edge ask their phone number

#

deft pewter
#

I've had the same cash in my wallet since March. I know this year has been unusual but it just shows how little we need cash.

forest edge
#

to what?

low harness
#

There's another thing. I haven't carried a real wallet for ten years. Just one of those card case things.

forest edge
#

are kids born in norway with a bank account?

clear ferry
#

Most have it from atleast 9 years of age

forest edge
#

you see my point don't you? that's dumb lol

deft pewter
#

I loved ditching a bifold wallet for one of those super slim ones, thomas.

#

Room for 4/5 cards and a couple of notes. That's all I need.

low harness
#

I set up savings accounts for my kids since they were a few months old.

deft pewter
#

When they raise the NFC limits more, I'll stop carrying cards.

clear ferry
#

No it's not dumb, I've had my own account since I was 7

#

And that is 30 years ago

forest edge
#

savvings is diffrent and those are generally not accessable till a certian age

low harness
#

They'll get access to it when they turn 18.

forest edge
#

see

#

so when a 12 year old makes money from mowing they get zip till 18 lol

deft pewter
#

Had my first 'debit' account when I was 11/12. It was a stupid Visa Electron or something that barely anyway recognised.

low harness
#

Me too.

deft pewter

Birthday money went in, birthday money got spent, then it sat empty the rest of the year.

Not sure which install you're using? If you have system_health enabled you can check Configuration -> Info, or see the following.

  • If you're using HassOS, flashed an image, or booted a VM with an image you're using #330990055533576204

  • If you installed Linux and then ran a script to install HA and have add-ons then you have #330944238910963714

  • If you're running docker commands or use a Docker manager and have no add-ons then you have #449717345808547842

  • Finally, if you use pip to install or upgrade you have #551864459891703809

@clear ferry Yeah, I've given up on running Linux on my laptop. It's honestly easier to boot Windows and run Linux in a VM

#

Linux is missing switchable graphics support, and has some weird power management issues, which results in it being stuck on the Intel Integrated GPU and only getting about 2 hours of battery life (at best).

Fire up Linux in a VM on top of Windows, and suddenly I get 11 hours of battery life, and have access to both GPUs...

odd kindle
#

ok, esxi installed on usb. NFS storage set up. Downloading an ubuntu iso

#

So far I'm not really more happy with it compared to proxmox. The ui is a lot nicer tho

subtle pasture
#

Dunno if this applies to your setup, but ESXi supports NFS multipathing

#

And it's way easier to get working than iSCSI MPIO

odd kindle
#

@subtle pasture no idea what you just said 😐 You have to remember that I'm basicly a 5 year old that happen to know some english 😛

subtle pasture
#

NFS multipathing and iSCSI MPIO (Multi-Pathed Input/Output) allow you to aggregate multiple network links together for additional storage bandwidth and redundancy

#

So, if you have multiple NICs on your shared storage device and your ESXi hosts, you can make use of them for more performance and link redundancy

odd kindle
#

Ah right, I do have multi nic on my little nas but not on the esxi "server". Atm I'm just focusing on playing around with the softer part of it all

#

I'm not planing to actually switch to esxi in any way right now. But it can't heart to have seen it in action for a bit 😄

#

If I decide to do anything I'll read up more as well.

Thanks for trying to teach me tho 😄

👋

subtle pasture
#

I like ESXi a lot, though it does assume you have a more "enterprisey" hardware config

odd kindle
#

that is super appreciated

#

Yeah, I definitly get that you'd want to run this over proxmox at companies

subtle pasture
#

The biggest place where that assumption by VMWare shows up is probably in its local storage support. ESXi has zero support for creating LVM / BTRFS / ZFS volumes (basically no support for software RAID)

#

They assume you'll have either a really nice hardware RAID card for local storage, or shared storage connected via iSCSI or NFS

#

Or you're going hyperconverged, and have decided to do vSAN

clear ferry
#

Vsan 🤢

@clever mortar Eh, not before kernel live patching was a thing. Linux server reboots for major security patches SHOULD have been common if you were doing your job right...

clever mortar
#

As I said - thing you chose to do

forest edge
#

My experience of *nix in general has been that restarts were a thing you chose to do. With Windows it was chosen for you.
@clever mortar I never once had windows force an update on me. I know it's a thing cause plenty of people say and post it but I have never experienced that

subtle pasture
#

Yeah, you can choose not to install major security hotfixes 👀

clever mortar
#

I had some Windows systems force it, and others that just went kaboom

subtle pasture
#

That's fun

#

lol

fiery sorrel
#

kaboom is the norme

#

i only had desktop force it on me

subtle pasture
#

With Windows, you can control patching with group policy (assuming you're using Windows Server + Windows Enterprise Edition)

fiery sorrel
#

once i had a nice "cortana as crash we will reboot the computer" full screen popup ...

subtle pasture
#

Home editions (Home/Pro) have less control over updates

fiery sorrel
#

i had no " NO" button

forest edge
#

maybe windows is AI and it knows people who would skip and skip and skip and for them it just gives you no choice lol

clever mortar
#

You can control that these days - Windows didn't always give you options

forest edge
#

win3.1?

#

I always remembered options

clever mortar
#

NT 4.x too, and I think 2000

#

Too often it's thank you for installing X, you'll now reboot

subtle pasture
#

Eh, Windows NT through 8.1 had pretty extensive Windows Update controls in all editions (possible exception to Home / Home Basic / Home Premium editions)

#

Windows 10 janked it up by taking away a ton of control for all editions except Server and Enterprise

fiery sorrel
#

oh i found a screenshoot of my popup from an old dir

#

french sadly

#

basicaly, you log off now, or you log off now

subtle pasture
#

Heh, interesting

forest edge
#

maybe bill gates hates french

subtle pasture
#

I know Microsoft will force an update if you're on a build of Windows that's no longer supported

forest edge
#

maybe the language pack didn't include the option for skip lol

fiery sorrel
#

XD

#

i have so many weird screenshoot in that folder

night zodiac
#

I'm moving to a new place so I get to waste tons of money on new devices.

fiery sorrel
#

you didn't move with them ?

#

or them with you ... i don't care XD

night zodiac
#

It is much larger than my current place 😛

clear ferry
#

I need a larger place so I can buy more stuff

#

🏇 🏇 🏇

clever mortar
#

So, bulk order from AliExpress then 🎉

fiery sorrel
#

i had a very small room, but still moved the dell r620 from under my bed to my new house !
i sleep so much better

forest edge
#

I need a larger place so I can buy more stuff
@clear ferry you know what my suggestion of this would be..

night zodiac
#

I'm in a very tiny apartment currently and moving to a three bedroom house

#

I finally have a reason to buy a robot

fiery sorrel
#

vacuum one i hop

fiery sorrel
#

because i'm playing "Detroit become human" and hell i don't want to see real robot anytimle soon

night zodiac
fiery sorrel
#

be weary, not rootable, hard to get the token for

night zodiac
#

I'm not worried about that but thanks for the heads up

subtle pasture
#

Yeah, I almost went Roborock, but saw how much of a pain they were to integrate with HA

#

"I'll... just get a Roomba"

fiery sorrel
#

i have a roborock s6 and a irobot 980

night zodiac
#

Yeah, I don't think I will benefit much from integrating it with HA

fiery sorrel
#

irobot is dumb... roborock is hard to integrate

clear ferry
#

Had no issues integrating my roborock

night zodiac
#

I just want to forget about it and have clean floors, no need for nerdy HA shit

fiery sorrel
#

Had no issues integrating my roborock
@clear ferry S5 or earlier ?

clear ferry
#

S5 yes

fiery sorrel
#

then your token don't get reset when the device ping the internet 😡

night zodiac
#

I have one concern. there is one part of the floor I am unsure if it can get over fine. It is like a transition between wood and tile

fiery sorrel
#

my s6 work very well over transition

#

i have a 1.5cm gap

night zodiac
#

I wish I measured it. it is definitely larger than that

night zodiac
#

I will form some type of ramp for it if I have to

vocal cave
#

looking for a GU10 socket with colors, Hue ones are super expensive..

fiery sorrel
#

that will be nice of your feet as well :)

vocal cave
#

100€ for 2 hue gu10 😭

forest edge
#

@night zodiac most floor transitions are angled?

odd kindle
#

I've not dared getting another robo, our last slaughtered a carpet and broke a big mirror 😦

night zodiac
#

It was just like a piece of trim over the tile to wood stuffs I think

#

I might have remembered it being bigger than it is

fiery sorrel
#

you know you have to feed it dust once in a while @odd kindle , or it get hungre and mad

clear ferry
#

My S5 traverses my 3cm door board

night zodiac
fiery sorrel
#

3cm seams a lot but they have big wheel

odd kindle
#

@fiery sorrel yeah it was our mistake :/

night zodiac
#

I didn't take a pic specifically of it but you can kind of see it

clear ferry
#

Yeah, the lift is huge on the s5

night zodiac
#

lol, Sonoma

#

we had biscuits and gravy today and I thought of you

forest edge
#

lol

#

as long as it wasn't that UK shit or whatever

night zodiac
fiery sorrel
#

@odd kindle did you see the Roombo game ?

#

was it like that ?

#

just so i prepare my shootgun ... i don't have any shootgun ....

night zodiac
#

I committed to a couch today for the new place. That was stressful.

fiery sorrel
odd kindle
#

@fiery sorrel haven't seen the Roombo game no

night zodiac
#

We finally decided and then found out it won't ship for a month

odd kindle
#

@night zodiac what food is that?

#

Tbf, it was like 8 years ago. It was one of the first on the market here. Its sensitivity was way wrong, so it wouldn't realize when it started to move stuff and push things around

night zodiac
#

It's "biscuits and gravy" haha

#

this channel talks about it once a month

#

not UK biscuits and gravy

odd kindle
#

ended up somehow eating up parts of a carpet, completly destrying it. And pushing on a mirror so much that it fell over

night zodiac
#

these new ones are smart as hell

odd kindle
#

@night zodiac oh cool! I'd never heard of it before joining this channel. But I do remember reading about it here some time back

night zodiac
#

It's just a pepper and sausage gravy over what you'd probably call a scone or something

forest edge
#

poor people whom never had or heard of US biscuit and gravy. their lives are just a little more sad because of it

clever mortar
#

You're just saying that because you've never tried cucumber sandwiches

night zodiac
#

cucumber with mayo?

forest edge
#

for the same reason I nevver tried raw whale.. I want to keep my food in my stomach

deft pewter
#

I take my cucumbers whole.

odd kindle
forest edge
#

are those freeze dried eggs?

night zodiac
#

that looks Scandinavian as fuck

#

aren't they the ones that like the squeeze tube foods?

odd kindle
#

Knäckebrö med ägg och kaviar 😄

#

@night zodiac been seeing "react" videos?

#

but yes

night zodiac
#

I don't really watch people watch things

odd kindle
#

there's lots of "someone try scandinavian tube spreads"-videos

night zodiac
#

ahh

#

I was some spreads

#

in high school, we had a final project for cooking class so I tried to find the dumbest recipe I could

#

I ended up cooking something called a flying jacob

odd kindle
#

oh 😄

#

that's a classic

night zodiac
#

lmao

#

bananas and chicken?

odd kindle
#

yepp, usually peanuts

night zodiac
#

yeah, we had that too

#

it actually didn't taste terrible

odd kindle
#

cream and then either curry or hotsauce

#

it's really good

night zodiac
#

but getting people to eat it was a trick

odd kindle
#

every single swede will know what that is

night zodiac
#

I am sure I didn't make it very well

odd kindle
#

add some bacon as well for some extra fat. Really good

night zodiac
#

this was like 12 years ago, haha

odd kindle
#

I mean... most swedish food is some what weird

#

we're not really known for our normal food

dusky plank
#

hot dogs?

odd kindle
#

but by that measurement flying jacob is rather normal

odd kindle
#

you want to slice tha banana 😦

#

and the tricky part is for sure not to over boil the rice

deft pewter
#

Why are there mouldy bananas in that?

night zodiac
#

ours looked a bit different

#

those are just ripe bananas, very sweet

odd kindle
#

@deft pewter they've been in the oven for some time

deft pewter
#

They've been in the garbage for some time.

odd kindle
#

but yeah, you do want ripe bananas

night zodiac
#

people usually eat bananas before the sugars develop fully but if you make a banana bread or anything you want to let them brown and get really sweet

odd kindle
#

@dusky plank have you had the ikea hot dogs?

dusky plank
#

maybe too much, yes

odd kindle
#

Lol

#

Do you know why they sell them?

night zodiac
#

I bought a hot dog roller a couple of months ago, lol

odd kindle
night zodiac
#

does this have the quote in it "if you get rid of the hot dogs, I'll kill you" in it?

#

That is what happened with costco

odd kindle
#

No

night zodiac
odd kindle
#

But it explains why they sell them for 5 sek

night zodiac
#

I wasn't exactly right but close

#

now I want a hot dog

dusky plank
#

yeah last one I had it was 50c still, I still crave for them

low harness
#

We were discussing that just the other day, actually.

#

Also, you’re making me hungry

deft pewter
#

They're more like £1.50 in the UK. We always get ripped off.

low harness
#

I didn’t feel like boiling eggs in the middle of the night, ok?

clear ferry
#

I love the ikea vegetable hotdogs

#

@clever mortar if you think that is strange you should see the Danish and their liver paste

forest edge
#

@low harness wtf is that? almost guessed poptart at first but that isn't it lol

deft pewter
#

It's plastic cheese on a rye cracker.

clear ferry
#

I enjoy the liver paste at 1/5th of Danish level, with red beets on top

#

@deft pewter caviar

low harness
#

I prefere pickles on mine.

forest edge
#

I enjoy the liver paste at 1/5th of Danish level, with red beets on top
@clear ferry why you gotta come in here and make everyone sick?

clear ferry
#

🏇 🏇 🏇

low harness
#

It’s caviar on a piece of very hard bread, btw. Atx, what’s torsk in English?

clear ferry
#

low harness
#

tame cove

clear ferry
