Anyone else trudging through the ITNation virtual conference today?
@subtle pasture , had to google. You are leaps and bounds ahead of even me ๐คฃ
My filter occasionally works ๐คฃ
@dusky plank Hogfather is pretty good btw
I'm thinking of ending things also looks good, haven't had time to watch it yet
Reminds me, I need to watch Grave of The Fireflies
@green inlet I wasn't sure if you were talking about ITNation or CBT for a second there...
What, you mean he didn't mean ITNation ?
He just started out with docker!
He's an IT professional now
Docker... yet another double-entendre...
I don't blame you, English slang is a nightmare, even for native speakers
technically it is half french I guess
I thought you mentioned docker on purpose ๐
Fun fact: (almost) any plural noun in the English language can be used as slang to refer to breasts
those are some pretty nice guitars you've got there mam
it works with some better than others, but yeah...
oh wow those synthesizers are huge
I've heard someone un-ironically use "headlights" before
Cutlets?
"Cutlets" is slang for silicone bra inserts, because they look like chicken cutlets ๐
@clear ferry I dunno, you might get away with "drums" or "horns"
And context is important
Because it's English, so context changes everything
that pedal board cable routing going in to a delay pedal before being compressed and overdriven through hot tubes
yeah, that'll work
This conference is killing me...
Dude has a nice mic on his desk... he's using the crap bluetooth mic in his ear
idiots I deal with use their integrated laptop mic and then type on their keyboard and constantly ask people to repeat stuff
or their cooling fan kicks on
like really?
buy a $30 set of Plantronics headphones with a decent mic
When I do training with both in room and remote attendees I usually hang my Bose QC35II around my neck, that works really well for a mic, and I have the speaker connected to a speaker in the room
finally a thing i like in windows, audio output/input settings and options are solved excellent
thx รฆtixbae, 3 seeders left on hogfather
Yeaaah, the audio stack situation on Windows is a lot more straightforward than Linux
You either go through the Windows audio stack (which is all OpenAL now), or you use WASAPI to talk to the audio hardware directly
one thing I don't get is why my headphones change to a crappy 92,000hz voice mode when in meetings. cannot change that apparently
what headphones ?
maybe it's webex :/
cisco ๐คข
happens on jabra and airpods
Might be your VOIP software, yeah
I have no issues with audio in teams
thankfully I only have one customer who uses webex
and I seldom call them
You can uncheck the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device"
See if that helps
i tried everything so far, pretty sure that was included... nothing helped I think this is really webexs fault
Its installer is also quite shady, you don't need to confirm anything - it just installs itself. somewhere... I've read that they hired the zoom guy which managed to do that for the zoom installer
were in the midst of switching to ring central
:rip:
one of my departments is in the midst of getting rid of ringcentral
@dusky plank Bluetooth headphones?
I have the same issue with mine. feckin annoying.
airpods yes, the jabra not so
So, your bluetooth audio devices show up as two separate audio devices
One of them is a "communications" specific device which has a lower bitrate
and tends to be force activated when the mic is enabled
or this one, i dont remember
yeah.
I have to disable the comms intended one and use a separate mic so i can keep the good audio quality lol
well with windows, if the comms intended audio sinks are left enabled, teams will default to them, resulting in the shit audio stack
discord will do the same
and skype
and my voip application
if anything touches the mic and headphone meant for calls specifically, quality goes to shit ๐
have to do this in windows to stop it:
and every large windows update -- the major version updates -- undoes that.
feckin annoying
I have no issues ๐
I'm in probably a dozen calls that I speak in per week
Including when I call @scenic radish for some sexy time
๐
I switched to using a podcast mic setup, and haven't looked back. Audio quality is way better
same
That's scarily close...
Anyone around familiar with Ubiquiti hardware? I'm building out a new house, and the subcontracter I have to install the networking wants to put in a CloudKey. Is there any real benefit to installing it vs using the community addon?
Well, it's dedicated hardware
When you break your HA host that's not impacted ๐
I wouldn't run it through HA
Whats Greta Thunbergs take on home automation in general and Home Assistant in particular?
I run my Unifi through docker fine on a different machine and just bought a cloud key for my father so he doesn't have anything to deal with
Does it actually do processing? Or is it just a configuration interface?
It tracks data for you and is more than the cell phone app will do for you by a lot
https://share.busheezy.dev/PMvmCu.png all sorts of things
Unifi will alert you if your AP detects RADAR from a plane flying overhead, I have found
๐ธ
Apparently WiFi is allowed to use those channels if it doesn't detect RADAR
so if it detects RADAR, it moves to a different channel
Causing issues with your local airport is generally not good
isaac, as for as the cloud key, I would just have a generic server running docker instances of jazz
then you can put UNMS on it as well
IF you have that
but you can just spend the money on a device that can run all sorts of docker images rather than a cloud key that can run only Unifi
if you have the ๐ง
https://hub.docker.com/r/linuxserver/unifi-controller this is the one I run
I like linuxserver images
That seems to be a common reaction ๐
why does the cloud channel appear so dark for me? is it dying?
Thanks @night zodiac
ooooh thx
np issac. @daring kayak the cloud key is definitely something ideal if you just want something that works without any fuss
which is why one will be arriving at my fathers this weekend
I tried messing with his "server" and after 5 minutes of his keyboard not working I was over it ๐
I definetely don't want fuss - it's for a customer, not me - but on the other hand I don't want to punch too many services through from the internet
well if it is for customer, cloud key is the winner for me
I think you can even add it as a remote site for managing your customers
@thin drift #frontend-archived
thanks mstone. I almost replied!
lol
lounges
no idea who this is a picture of
Sorry about that I tried looking for the right tab but didn't click one
cloud is evil
hey all, trying out Home Assistant in my new home. Ran Openhab on a RPi at my old condo and now (FINALLY) installed all the insteon switches at my new house and a new unraid server. excited to get started!
Whats Greta Thunbergs take on home automation in general and Home Assistant in particular?
bump
I reckon it'd depend on how carbon neutral your setup is.
Done in a way that reduces consumption? ๐ฅ
Done in a way that increases it? ๐คข
bump
@dusky plank
why does it matter or who cares about the kid lol
i give a shit about her but I would like to continue skiing and she's the one in charge now
It's statistics of average homes with smart homes / without them I would like to see. Does it impact much or is it even worse maybe
pretty sure co2 wise it's meaningless, also all the shit we buy needs to get produced, transported
pointless topic
But how much energy/material was used in the things you automate with? Deciding if you're carbon neutral isn't easy.
this
Pointless topic? Not at all. If no-one talks about it, nothing changes.
I mean I think we can talk about energy savings without referencing some little girl that I give a shit less about
pointless topic co2 wise, if you care/want change there are REAL thigns you can do
She's got people talking about it. She's doing something positive.
well that is why I asked why we talk about that little brat
her thoughts?
Doesn't matter that she's a weird little kid. She's making a positive change in the world.
ok
This topic is borderlinig politics

Automation tested and working at 13:00, HA was not restarted since 12:00 and there was no changes in the yaml files since 12:00. but since 21:00 its not working ๐ No reason, no changes.
#automations-archived, you say?
@deft pewter I does not want anything, just chatting in lounge bro.
I dunno. Felt more like a monologue than a chat... and if it develops, it'll surely be into a HA support chat.
Bring it back, quick
Please don't use the support channel to think out aloud. Go through the basic troubleshooting steps and then highlight the specific problem that you are facing. We don't have access to your system and it is hard for people to imagine what may be going on.
It's still there, Tinkerer's senile mind just forget the right command.
Could be worse @bitter zinc I chose google wifi, and like it ;)
Lol yeah. Itโs pretty hard to change settings though, like I want to have vLans but with Google WiFi itโs not really practical
And itโs Google. Who knows if they are stealing all my information๐คทโโ๏ธ
I don't count in python, it does that for me ;)
@bitter zinc this is what we have proper access points for
Lol yeah
I guess i have to throw out the box of access points I have in my garage soon ๐ค
Since @clever mortar didn't want them
Not my fault they're from the dark ages ๐
Oof
They were more current than what I replaced
Oh yeah, still newer than what I had, just not as new as my AC units I bought
I was thinking AX, but I don't have any AX devices, and Wifi 6e just got announced
Does it have 5gji?
This may be a dumb question, but is there something like a 5G router?
Probably, there's 4G ones
Not comparable
Oh
5G != WiFi
Well, wimax is somewhat comparable
Does your internet speed affect local control or is that just the speed of your router?
Depends, usually not, or at least not noticable
None
This ^
Assuming you did everything correct up until that point
Well, yes
HomeAssistant can reboot my modem via locally-controlled smartplug if the internet goes down, lol
So for 99% of folks on this Discord, that'll be heck no
And do not have Trรฅdrfi gateway
I can close all ports and still use HA without nabu casa ๐คทโโ๏ธ
I can close all and still access with it ๐คท
thats propably what i mean ๐ remote
Nabu casa ๐
Beats needing to actually read docs, and actually doing stuff myself
๐
@light trout Kinda with you there. Heck, I read through the docs for doing it without Nabu Casa, and the recommended configuration didn't seem particularly secure to me...
Required forwarding ports directly to HomeAssistant, rather than making a reverse connection to AWS
Building custom commands and Flash Briefing require your Home Assistant instance to be accessible from the Internet with HTTPS on port 443
Yeaaah, not gonna do that. It should use a reverse connection...
I have tons of stuff exposed on 443
ddos intensifies
๐
The only thing I have exposed on 443 is a reverse proxy server running in a DMZ VLAN, and that's hidden behind CloudFlare
Which I use to connect Plex to its cloud service
@clear ferry Sorry I have a properly designed network? lol
Eh, I've hosted stuff online for... 22 years, you'll survive
If you know what you are doing
I'm not exposing HomeAssistant directly to the internet, no way.
I know what I'm doing, which is why that's not happening
fail2ban and call it a day
The correct way to do this is for a HomeAssistant to make a reverse connection to AWS, which is exactly what it does when you use Nabu Casa
Make the sick face all you want, doesn't change the facts ๐
The correct way to do it is to assess the risks and take appropriate measures, not go nuclear out of the gate ๐
It's hardly nuclear if just signing up for Nabu Casa does it the right way ๐
Opening ports directly to internal servers is a nuclear option, imho
Directly? Nah
what do you want more? a waf?
port forwarding is kind of "direct" in my understanding, but it isn't though
Port forwarding funnels all traffic bound for a specific port on your router's external IP address to a specific port on an internal device's internal IP address
ok
Do anyone know the terminal codes to turn off the sim pin on a mobile dongle? I got it setup on home assistant with a sim card so I can send sms if power goes off (ups), but need the sim to be without pin
https://askubuntu.com/a/244771 should do
This guy made it work :P
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/haaska-alternative-without-exposing-rpi-to-the-internet/59583/5
I thought that I would close on this confirming that the idea of using an outbound ssh connection from the HA RPi out to my own EC2 server, and then simple ssh with port forwarding + reverse-proxy in an existing NGINX installation to expose the HA API to the Amazon Skill has w...
hey, I use haaska
Reverse SSH to their EC2 instance so no port forwarding is required
@clever mortar selinux=off
selinux == hell
haha
nooo you can't just disable selinux
haha permission escalations go brrrrrr
chmod -R 777 /
(but really, SELinux isn't that tough, you just need to label appropriately and mayyybe write a module here and there, but most of that can be done just by piping audit.log to auidit2allow)
and it saves you from dumb shit like having php being able to write to / ro whaever
Sometimes security is not too important and 777 works, but donโt make it a habit
Too many companies solve issues with root and 777 like docker issues etc. Thatโs just being lazy
yeah, you can also run docker with selinux enforcing, but like every howto out there starts with "disable selinux" which is also just lazy
I think it comes from Linux not being good at describing security faults. It doesnโt work, people try this and that than give up. If Linux was better at verbose give feedback on why it doesnโt work I think it would be less laziness. I had issues with no access, even how I changed rigts and users, and error being cryptic. Itโs no doubt people are tired of trial and error
time to figure out a way to cover the power button for my desktop. my 15-month-old has gone up to it and shut it off twice on me today ๐
Duct tape
pull out the cable to the button
Electric diode. Learning the hard way
and use HA with a zigbee button out of reach to WOL it ๐
The kid'll just find the button
What you really need is a webcam and some computer imaging. Make up a ridiculously complex dance that the kid can't copy and have HA toggle the power only when the correct dance is detected.
NFC tag maybe
When the TV is on, I can ping it, and a quick port scan does indeed reveal that I am talking to the correct device
What about cec power instead
I would like to power my tv on independently from my media pc
And I'm not really too quick to go to a workaround immediately tbh ๐
have you turned on in the TV's settings?
other than that you can try sending the magic packet to your broadcast adress
in the webostv module documentation, it does state this:
On newer models (2017+), WakeOnLan may need to be enabled in the TV settings by going to Settings > General > Mobile TV On > Turn On Via WiFi instructions.
But I don't have this option in my settings
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
you should first find these settings in your tv
it's not in general
๐คทโโ๏ธ
this is from a random website, not my pic
but I don't have that option in general
To be able to turn on the LG smart TV, you will first need to identify your tv model. This feature only works with 2016-2020 models with the option "Mobile TV ON".
If you own a recent and...
Maybe just over Ethernet. I had some similar issues on an LG myself over WiFi
No os update?
lemme check
Do you have WiFi enabled? I think you need to enable it even if youโre not connecting through it
weird
It also seems that different stores carry different models of TV, especially like big box stores, will get a slightly different model so that price match doesn't work, and sometimes they'll be missing one dumb feature to differentiate. It just might not have WOL
802.11 is on, but not connected to anything
different models of the same tv that is
My webos TV works fine, just got to follow the docs, and understand how magic packets travel if you have vlans, docker in non host mode or bsd jails
it's a OLED65C9PUA that I bought from best buy
like one or two letter difference, OLED65C9P, OLED65C9PUA, OLED65C9AUA etc
I'd be kind of surprised if this is some odd model that happens to not do wol
I know how magic packets work and all that ๐ I'm broadcasting it on the correct network, and I'm using the right MAC
I just copy/pasted the MAC from arp
Iโm just surprised about the webos on that tv. It doesnโt look like the regular web os. What version is it?
@late gate it's on version 04.70.12
Strange. It seems like a regular tv. Why it doesnโt have the regular ui Iโm not sure. Have you tried the apps to see if you got more options? I know itโs hidden menus on LG tv but donโt remember the remote sequence probably possible to google
Phone apps
interesting, the mobile TV on setting is in another place
I think I might just be running an old version
I am chatting with LG support, and I think they are just... wrong about this
@late gate are you using wired ethernet on your TV to do WOL?
I think i had similar issues yes. I donโt use wol anymore though but remember webos was quirky. Donโt you have WiFi to try?
Mine turns on half the time
the other time it doesn't turn on or it doesn't get registered
Have you downloaded the app and confirmed you can turn it on with that.
The HA docs are wrong you don't need ethernet
Less hazzle getting a Logitech hub hehe
@hushed basalt I don't need ethernet?
I got the app, but for whatever reason, it can't find the tv
I can ping it and port scan it, though
if the app can't find it you have bigger issues
Reset the tv maybe
Ethernet is great but it's not necessary for WOL
Where is good place to start, I know programming but not exact way hass works
Want to create a home dashboard/automation type system
Preferably video tutorials
I don't understand the question
Home Assistant is already a home dashboard/automation type system?
@hushed basalt WoL as in "wake on LAN"?
Wake on LAN generally won't work over wifi, and requires ethernet...
well that is policatilly incorrect and i demand resolution due to lan is not specificed as wired or wireless ...i am upset
The device that sends the WoL packet can be connected via wifi, but you'll never wake a wifi-connected device
And while WoWLAN is a thing, it's rare to actually see a WLAN chipset support it
@dull chasm its late stop demanding
@tidal bronze hey its only 20:17 hours ....i still got :15 minutes or so and i am having a very enlighting conversation with @subtle pasture
Thank you
Stay in your Lane ๐คฃ
I thought that was a wide open demand ๐ Sorry this time I couldn't read between the lanes
i am having a very enlighting conversation with @subtle pasture
@dull chasm you said one thing.. doesn't take much for you swamp people does it. ๐
@forest edge He slipped into my DMs ๐
Oh boy
oh, hope you got alot of soap
hey i am going to bed but you can ask i was very smart and entertaining .....bhh @forest edge
what you southerners do behind closed doors is something no one else wants to know about
@forest edge hopefully @dull chasm can decode that without his glasses.
this rm4 pro is neat but shit at the same time lol
and how you add crap is crazy lol
What are you trying to control?
well I got it working for the basic shit I wanted it for, but the damn thing was able to learn rf from other crap but the unit isn't made to just receive rf unless in learning mode which is bleh!
wish I knew how to convert base64 to rf code lol
After months I think this weekend I am going shopping at the salvation army store.
Gotta check what old vinyls are available
pretty sure none that would be in the pristine condition you would adore and sleep with lol
You won't believe how many unopened ones I've found
being LA, you are right, i don't believe lol
but then again, i was unware the Wiggles soundtrack was put on vinyl lol
prime stuff just arrived ๐ฅณ
Hi guys, anyone seen this? https://www.lifx.com.au/products/lifx-switch
have you lost yours?
180.00 for a switch ๐คข
That's AUD, so make it USD400!
or something
Also, what kind of psycho puts black switches on white walls
that looks horrible
and it looks the size of a small child
morons with black walls
All the walls in my house are black
No way that is 400.00 USD. What a deal
assuming I upgraded the pi to latest firmware... rpi-clone should make a bootable usb which i can use right away to boot without sd is that correct? It's not booting in my case :/
pi ๐คข
Prob only if you have those switches
ordered.
What model pi?
4
This section contains documentation with technical information about the Raspberry Pi hardware, including official add-ons and the Pi itself.
Not sure how you get to raspi config with a new usb boot drive. Guess you need the card for first boot
Auh, looks like you set it in the firmware flash.
yep I had the boot option missing in raspi-config, it's now available after a update..
is there an "in-wall" thing I can buy that will convert an existing light switch to a zigbee device?
ie. I want the light switch to no long switch on/off the power to the circuit, but instead become a zigbee device and send the on/off signal to HA
but I don't want my family noticing the difference
or to fuck with batteries
do they cut power to the circuit?
they would have to turn off the light...
so I already have a house full of hue bulbs
I would prefer that they stay "up" all the time
ie. they're always powered
this is why mixing smart bulbs and smart switches don't get along too well ๐คฃ there is probably options for that
I just do smart bulbs for everything, and automations handle the rest
and smart switches where I have fluorecent lights
yeah that's what I like too
noone touches wall switches in this house, we have automated lights based on doors and room occupations
but I think my wife would like a manual option as well
how do you manage room occupation?
roomassistant?
sensors?
is the tv on ? we are there, is the door open ? we are there
Track behaviour ๐
I'm converting some motion sensors from my old alarm system into HA now for even more granularity based on movement
Room assistant is great for tracking devices, but if folks leave a phone in another room, it just became a chocolate teapot
So, motion sensors, door sensors, state of media players, lights (when manually controlled), etc etc etc etc
Oh, and add light sensors ๐
Well, yes, you need to use a collection of things, since a single report is less likely to be accurate
Motion sensor could just be the dog
TV turning on could just be the nightly check for a firmware update
Aye, Samsung
๐คข
About 3 to 5 hours after you turn it off, at night, it'll goes briefly online
Screwed up all my automations until I realised that ๐
Yeah LG does not do that
I need to figure out why my bitwarden rust install doesn't like my email settings
I use the same settings for my nextcloud installation
bitwarden was hella lot smoother than lastpass tbh
do you guys have any recommended zigbee wall remotes?
I have a couple of hue and ikea remotes, and they're fine but not amazing
I only use a single remote tbh
a ikea on off, that sets the house in awake or in sleep mode
but that is just because we get up early with the baby
I need to figure out why my bitwarden rust install doesn't like my email settings
you masochist
nevermind
what have I done now ๐คฃ
i swapped it in my brain
though the "rust" one is the big one
so yeah, bitwarden_rs is cool ๐
yeah, the regular install method was shite
See the pinned messages in #zigbee-archived @tight ermine
a colleague pointed me to it since he didnt know docker at all like over a year ago... tried to install the default one
we're using it at work and i'm using it with a selfhosted instance privately too
ever since
if only the goddamn ldap importer would be actually good
but apparently thats a upstream issue
no sync, no groups, no nada... only "check OU and import the user accounts"...
time for some pasta ๐ ๐งโ๐ณ
Why isnโt there a filter per entity or similar in History view? For example I might only be interested in one entity history past 3 days

Ok, fair enough
Hey can someone tell me if there is a quick and easy way to make my switche behave like a button? (i want the switch to go active for lets say 3 seconds then go to off again)
In HA, in hardware, or ...?
If in HA are you talking about in the UI, or elsewhere?
create script.my_dirty_workaround
Or replace the switch with a momentary one
never mind found an easy way :S Automation turn off after 3 seconds ๐
Sorry my brain is overworked
so just monitor for state change of the switch?
I think this is what i did yeah
Only thing I got to work out now is a way to "detect" when someone uses the dorebell...
what kinda doorbell
mine uses mains voltage, I just clamped a fibaro switch I had laying around to it
@steel crag I am curently living in a flat. Plan is to have a videodorbell at the flat dore and to make the "intercom smart" The shelly 1 will basicly the dore buzzer (when i finaly find the contacts on the intercom) but I need some way to get informed when the Frontdore bell is pressed
tap the intercom wire?
Dang, I tryed out running my own docker registery and retagged all my containers ๐คฃ
Of cause I removed the other containers ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
now I know how to do things right ๐คฃ of cause I have to fall on my but first
We all learn more from what we get wrong, than what we get right ๐
well we are on our butts laughing
Even if the learning point is don't do that again
so no shame in being on your butt
like I learned it's faster for me to reinstall HA from scratch than it is to restore a snapshot
๐
๐คจ ๐คฃ
I just would have hoped that I pulled a clean backup first.
I also like the from scratch. But integrations is a clickops expirience
tink: last 3 times I tried, kernel panic
And this is why I don't run that method...
Something as simple as restoring a backup shouldn't kernel panic your host
well, I maybe have a system I can use
but the pi has GPIO built in, etc etc etc
it's also kind on my UPS ๐
Running on a Pi doesn't change anything ๐
either way, I'm loving the new release on the pi now
I once heard that there is no 'ing' form for love in english.. is that correct?
๐ค
that the reason this topic arised back then
'loving' works as both an adjective and a gerund in English.
loving ๐ค Nope, never heard of the word...
Clearly you need better sources @dusky plank

awww yeah don't forget the shite hearts โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

or do like the Islandic, who don't use foreign words
and create new ones
I mean, I like that, but on the other hand... the English language is as lazy as any good techie ๐คฃ
Donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaftskapitรคn
yeah it's long... but not really a word
same in norwegian, we do NOT split words, but younger people who are highly influenced by English split norwegian words
which is fucking ๐คข
Like.... driving school == kjรธreskole but if you split it it becomes kjรธre skole which basically means drive a school
reliefpfeiler is nice, it's also a palindrome
Hi, still running .104, if it aint broke dont fix it kinda approach. Should I update to .116 ?
if it aint broke dont fix it
I personally would call it "The longer I wait the harder it becomes" approach
hmm
Yeah, that's why running nightly is the easy option
ok, ill take the plunge and hope everything still works after I press update :D
hey I'm running a ancient piece of software with possible security holes and software errors that will cause to fail down the line, should I upgrade ?
Yeah, that's why running nightly is the easy option
@light trout Same! ๐
na, my lights turn on and of when I want to... don't want the wife to get mad that stuff around the house doesnt respond anymore ;)
Also known as the question I get with hey I'm running the critical company financial systems on a HP Netserver running windows 2000 and with a HSG80 storage platform, should I upgrade or is that fine?
updating OS now, then homeassitant core next

No, but we can get the popcorn ready
just press update, hope I dont need to ask for help... :D although the name changing did not make it clearer for me what version I'm running now

of course

You would have made a backup in that case ๐
made one when the system was finished and running... never changed anything after that moment, so the backup should be good
Assuming it's not on the system you're updating...
Assuming you can still restore it
is a backup a backup if it hasn't been tested?
(no)
well it still is called a backup
is it a backup unless it is stored in atleast three different locations ? geographically and service wise ?
no
but there is a spossibility it doesn't help you to get back up
It's defintly is
can always wipe the ssd that the berry is running one... and flash the back up... (I think) OS update went ok, now Core.. then test if my stuff still works.. Then try to get some new fuctions going.. want to read out my evohome (which is already happening) and use that for a new function on a infrared panel
Hi! Having huge memory consumption by HA core container. RPI 3B & hassio.
Looks like it's a memory leak: after host reboot it's ok. How to fix it?

Is someone here who has a bit of knowlege about the shelly producst and a few minutes spare time?
#hardware-archived would be a good place, but ...
Don't ask to ask, just ask your question. Then people can answer when they're around.
When you do ask a question, try to provide as much background detail as possible. Ask yourself these questions first so that others don't have to:
- What version of the Home Assistant are you running? (remember, last isn't a version)
- What exactly are you trying to do that won't work?
- Is the problem uniform or erratic?
- What's the exact error message?
- When did it arise?
- What exactly don't you "get"?
- Can you share sample code, ideally with line errors where the error occurs?

sometimes blocked ๐ค
Not sure which install you're using? If you have system_health enabled you can check Configuration -> Info, or see the following.
-
If you're using HassOS, flashed an image, or booted a VM with an image you're using #330990055533576204
-
If you installed Linux and then ran a script to install HA and have add-ons then you have #330944238910963714
-
If you're running
dockercommands or use a Docker manager and have no add-ons then you have #449717345808547842 -
Finally, if you use
pipto install or upgrade you have #551864459891703809

May I ask a question about an issue that recently started occurring when running sudo apt upgrade on Raspbian?
You arenโt in your VEnv are you?
apt-get install apt-listchanges
apt-listchanges is already the newest version (3.19).
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
libtinfo-dev
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove it
which apt-listchanges
/usr/bin/apt-listchanges
Maybe it is corrupt?
๐คจ
dpkg --remove apt-listchanges
weird, yes I'd say corrupt too. does it survive a reboot?

So, apt-listchanges is a Python 3 script ๐ค
Thanks to pdobrien3 I recently successfully installed python 3.9.0

Good news, Python 3.9.0 may not work with HA ๐
it seems to be working with HA

I did.

It seems there's a software update but I don't see anything happening when I click the update button. Be nice to me I'm a newbie.

It's time to retire my Dell R610 enterprise server in favor of this <little> bad boy. That R610 server sucks so much power and is so under-utilized. I think this is a good choice. Paired with 32GB DDR4 and a NVME drive... I think it's going to do circles around the 10 year old $10k server for occasional game hosting, Plex, Home Assistant, other docker containers.

I've managed datacenters and systems for 20 years - I need to stop bringing work home with me. The easier, smaller, more efficient methods are the way to go.
in a furry suit
I see all these people with custom datacenters in their garage/office and after the novelty of testing and playing with the product wears off, now you're left with a $500/month electricity bill. ๐
Don't get me wrong - I got a rack in my garage too, but all that legacy stuff (esp that monster of a Cisco router) are long e-wasted.
@cunning shard you can make a hell of a DC power supply with a server PSU though
True, but variable voltage?
@clear ferry +1 for jojo
Finally got my girlfriend into it, so I'm alllll the way back in Part 2 right now
She almost didn't make it through Part 1. The first few episodes are kinda rough :x
@cunning shard with extra parts, yeah
went to a place called UBreakIFix today to get my USB port replaced on my phone
dude was like "this is probably just dirty" so he took it and used a little pick and some compressed air
and a surprising amount of pocket fluff had been smashed in there and turned into a brick
so $0 fix instead of the $80 I was expecting
10/10 would recommend
Totally recommend them for most of my PDA fixes too. Cheaper than sending into the vendor.
@subtle pasture season 1 is best tbh
@cunning shard power costs nothing in Norway, so my yearly usage is 35k kw and ... Currently power is $0.004 per kwh
damn, that's really good.
Yeah, that setup definitely would keep your garage heated!
Eh, only one 2u and a mini itx and mini computer on at all times
Rest is powered as needed
Oh, and the 2x40g switch cluster
Of course

Curious why Opnsense? I tested that and Pfsense and found Pfsense to be better for my needs.
I ran pfsense for 15 years
But they have become stale
And a bunch of wankers
Opnsense dares to be bleeding edge and introduce new features
Interesting - it's been a couple years for me, maybe I'll spin up a VM and give it another look.
I do like the stability of pfsense only updating 2/year. But definitely not bleeding edge at that point.
Opn is great. Been running it for nearly 2 years

I need to find someone who knows this rf and base64 crap!
tell us more
find a ham operator
on a whim i decided to see if the rm4 could learn my rf temp sensors and it did. but it logged the code and data all into a single base64 string. I just transmitting it and my temp display kept showing the temp that was logged in the base64 lol so it's working, just locked to what is in that base64
after searching yesterday I don't think there is an easy way to convert that string so I can make use of it but someone who knows about rf and base64 could do it
.paste some example
? just look up the broadlink intergration, you'll see what it looks like lol
Heh, I remember looking into the Broadlink RM Pro a while back...
Wound up using a combination of Logitech Harmony Hubs and a Bond Bridge instead
is the bond bridge able to receive and not just learn?
If you put it into MQTT mode, yeah
That completely disconnects it from the cloud service, though
if it can listen to rf signals and react that would be awesome, the one thing the rm dosen't do
I currently have mine configured to use the local API, rather than putting it into MQTT mode, so I haven't tested it
Bond? James bond?
But Bond has extensive documentation on MQTT mode for the bridge
@clear ferry https://bondhome.io/products/bond-bridge/
It's a device designed to clone IR and RF remotes ^
Dat price
I'm currently using mine to control my ceiling fans, which already had legacy RF remotes
@clear ferry The price was significantly cheaper than upgrading 3 ceiling fans...
Just saying, the price was very easy to justify, given the alternative
And I owned one of them
While I still smoked pipe
And walked around in a nightgown
๐ฉ
True story
It can also be used to clone a door/window sensor from a 433-MHz based security system, allowing you to trip your alarm using HomeAssistant
Not a bad way to make an older security system a little bit smarter
It can clone basically any RF device that doesn't use rolling codes
Also does IR devices, but I tend to stick to harmony hubs for those
weird it has a limit of devices
granted 30 is alot but the rm claims to have nolimit
I think the harmony hub can only do 15
Yeah, I can't really think of a situation where I'd be controlling 30 devices with one of these
But the app has support for as many Bond bridges as you want, so...
99 wouldn't be bad if the mqtt mode worked as you mentioned, building something to do both 315 and 433 would cost more in parts than 99
but 99 would be shit if it couldnt lol
Yeah, that was my other issue that sold me on it. My existing fan remotes are an odd frequency
Broadlink didn't even support them
in the US we have 315-439MHz crap lol
I had some 316MHz and 319MHz and some 436MHz lol
These remotes are 303.78 MHz
damn sonoff rf bridge is locked to a very short range of only 433 which sucks ass
The Bond Bridge is the only thing I could confirm would actually be able to clone the remotes
Looks like you'd have to basically tell it to go into device discovery mode to get a read on transmitters
Clearly not the intended purpose of the bridge, heh
be nice if they made a prepackaged device to do this one simple task lol
Which is frustrating, because it can "see" sensors (like door/window sensors) well enough to clone them
So it's just software preventing it from being able to be a hub for sensors
yea
well it has a single rx/tx unit so it can't do both at same time no matter what, would need two which they don't have
On the up side, they've mentioned they want to add rolling code support, which will make this thing a workable garage door opener
Already works with garage door remotes if you have an older one that doesn't use rolling codes
That's what I'm currently doing, as well
I've got a wemos d1 mini with a reed switch and a relay shield
you should reclaim that d1 for other uses and stick a shelly on it lol
I have dozens of unsoldered d1 minis
I threw an ESP8266 out in the garage with a temp/humidity sensor, PIR motion/occupancy sensor, and a relay wired to a spare garage door remote.
Oh, and an ultrasonic range sensor to tell if the rollup door is open or shut
nerd!
Beats replacing a garage door opener ๐
I debated putting a multi-turn pot on the torsion tube so I could know exactly where the door is
so you would know if the robbers had to do the limbo to get in and out?
Mines currently just set up to detect if the door is open or not (and it'll detect it as "open" if it's more than 6 inches open)
if mine's more than about an inch, it shows open
lol same here, open is open
got some super tiny cheap reed switches
I could dial it down to an inch, but false positives are annoying
it's an ultrasonic range sensor, and changes in temperature and humidity actually have an impact on the sensor's accuracy
As the sensor gets warmer, it starts reading objects as farther away
reed switches are cheap and easy lol
No good way to mount one
I have a wired one to the shelly on mine
Sticking a range sensor above the door and pointing it at the ground was easy enough ๐
If the detected range suddenly drops from > 7 feet to < 2 feet, the door is open
I saw someone take one of those wireless door red switches and stick it on a gate hinge and attach it to the door, as the door opened the door reed switch would seperate as gravity pulled down the gate hinge lol
That's actually how a lot of commercial smart garage door opener add-ons work
You mount them to the ceiling so they can do range finding
I debated putting a multi-turn pot on the torsion tube so I could know exactly where the door is
@last dirge great idea. Going to try a hall sensor. I do multi position with time but this would be ideal.
just count the revs
Yep
you can get up to a 25-turn pot so as long as it's less than that, you're good
Then the spring breaks and snaps the pot right off ๐
if it's up, it just goes down
it doesn't release cable tension past "down" so it should be fine
Yep. Nothing crazy. Although never happened to me at aleast.
never?
Hmm no.
I've had several busted springs
"don't make 'em like they used to" (TM)
my current garage door is a 9' door
I think my guy comes every 2 years for maintenance
I've only had a spring break once
and it's "carriage style"
But it was loud AF
so it's got wood on the front of the metal
and it's insulated
there's a zero percent chance of me lifting it by myself if both springs break
I'd guess it's probably 300-350 pounds
@last dirge what type ?
of door?
Opener
I got excited this weekend, two of my remotes stopped working so I thought the opener had shit the bed
Lol
so I was gonna put in a jackshaft opener
but alas, clearing the memory and re-learning them worked
I think my guy comes every 2 years for maintenance
@tidal bronze ๐
get your own hands dirty ya hippie!
Why when it's free.
@last dirge you will be very happy with jackshaft, love the ramp up/down and silent operation
mine's belt drive
so it's mostly quiet
the only noise that'd get eliminated would be the carriage on the track
That's somewhat loud.
well, it's a giant heavy door
it's gonna make noise almost regardless
at my other house it's just a cheap 4-panel aluminum door with a belt drive
it's damn near silent
lol beach wood
Compressed sand
mdf
Not everything is Barn standard
typical cali house, everything is solid cept the entry ways lol
I have no clue even about the front door keys. ๐คฃ never locked. So I guess you got a point.
but your honor the burglar can't sue me over damages to himself breaking into my home, the door was made out of Styrofoam
"aren't you worried about security with your Z-wave lock?"
