Heh, So, another interesting situation. I ordered a GoControl Z-Stick via Amazon. First shipment, USPS got, tracking showed it never left the building. Ever. So the shipper sent out another one, different tracking number. Once again, for at least 2 days, no tracking updates at all, just label created. So I reported both tracking numbers to USPS as "where's my package",.

My ESP32 design detected so many things that were right there. Direction of door travel, limit switches, so it knew if there was an interupt not by guessing/time, but actual logic.

I tried to use an ESP8266, but it was /not/ fast enough.

Believe it or not, I needed the ESP32 specifically to analyze the analog signal going through the control wire at a fast enough rate that didn't effectively drop the wifi signal.

#

I spent waaaaayy to much time on that for my garage to just die so quickly. LOL

#

I even made my own oscilliscope to analyze that signal!

#

And FYI, that specific signal.... Was the signal of the soft lock, which caused the LED to blink, but left the original button control signals the same. it was incredible timing. 🙂

I’ve decided to revive the topic and say that Home Assistant OS can’t be configured with multiple network interfaces in mind, so those who want to use multiple interfaces such as myself must go with standard Home Assistant Core and forget about addons for good.

I would simply go with a standard Home Assistant Core as you get a lot more flexibility than running Home Assistant OS. The only problem is you have to have a hands-on experience with Linux command line, so I’d recommend going with Debian and modify /etc/network/interfaces as follows (using your favorite text editor such as vi, vim, emacs, or nano):

hehe yeah sound stupid i know but for the sake of reliabillity/backup scalabillity etc it was just the way to go for me

of course all encrypted and secure, probably more that running and maintaining a customzied remote accessible infra at home - at least that were my thoughts

if you dont have a 1vendor local only sensor/actor setup you might end up collection data from cloud services anyway so why clodge your home network with that traffic

but yeah just my thoughts thats the great thing of the project its open do as you wish

(ofc in my solution the vpn is to interact with non proteced local devices - where you dont want to expose such ports to the world)

You need to daisy chain at least 2 of them, and yes, you can see it from 50ft distance. They are pretty bright!

I run them at the lowest brightness (at 1). Only use high brightness for custom messages - that is at 10. It will get your attention for sure!

Guys, I have a pi3b running hassio, and tbh its just fine, though a bit slow when restarting due to config changes etc.
I have a Pi4 that I am considering upgrading to, but my Aotec zwave controller is not working on the pi4.

So my idea was to use my pi3 with zwave2mqtt, and use my pi4 as my main controller for hassio.

Is that bad practice, pro's cons anyone?
