hushed basalt

I like the radiant heat

#

If I built a house it would be high performance though so it would never feel "warm" in the slab because it'd cook us

tidal bronze
#

We really never think about heating

hushed basalt
#

But just a nice warmth all round without a fan blowing out of a vent and no drafts is ๐Ÿ‘Œ

#

Temperature ranges here are about 0 to 45 C

#

So you need both

tidal bronze

I think lowest is about 2c

Pff what are these, temperatures for ants

@forest edge don't want to mess with all the existing RF ones. Bond works great. Just that I have 2 x 6 speed ones and want the fan component to control them natively.

forest edge

how many fans on this bond hub?

tidal bronze

5

forest edge

holy hell lol

#

they don't get mixed occasionally? go to turn on one and another turns on etc?

tidal bronze
#

no

#

mainly for no motion OFF by floor

forest edge
#

so the bond thing can't do step control?

tidal bronze
#

bond can do everything, HA is the problem on 2 fans.

#

HA only got low/mid/high. I want 6 speed settings

forest edge

kind of impressed one hub reaches 5 fans lol

How can you get back to where it asks for the username again without killing the session?

clear ferry
#

you can't

#

but you can always send your username in the session, like ssh magicuser@hostname or even in putty you can write magicuser@hostname and get right to the password prompt

#

that said you should look into key auth

#

Yeah key auth FTW

Then you can make an alias that gives you an interactive session by typing one word

SSH in this case

@forest edge burned optical disks degrade pretty rapidly

forest edge

if by rapidly you mean a few decades.. sure

it really falls down to quality of the cd and quality of the burn. i've been access my data on those older cd's of mine to transfer them to my nas after 30 years

last dirge

@wet pilot mine had bays but I removed 'em

undone aspen

I need to come up with a monitoring solution of some sort to let me know. "Hey! Things stopped responding!", because, I just had all my contact sensor batteries die, nearly all at the same time, all between 42%-47% reporting. And one motion sensor, which stopped working which is in a recharging battery.

last dirge

@undone aspen should be easy

#

are they reporting directly to hass or through some other thing?

undone aspen
#

You would think. My SmartThings hub sees the disconnect/offline state, but HASS does not.

last dirge
#

there's your problem

undone aspen
#

yeaaaaah... There is that. LOL

fading zodiac
#

Smarthings is odd

undone aspen
#

Heh. It's funny too, I adopted only a few things in smartthings, which is the hub, which was useful for initially getting started into all this, then the contact sensors and one motion sensor.

#

Heh, I am however, half-tempted to replace my SmartThings contact sensors with Aeotec Contact Sensor 7's, with the 1/2 AA batteries which I have plenty of unused just charging. ๐Ÿ™‚

#

Despite that they don't actually read temperature. LOL

#

heh.

#

I just... Can't believe people would make battery-powered WiFi contact sensors, like geeni does.

last dirge
#

how fast does that eat batteries?

undone aspen
#

hahah

#

I imagine pretty dern fast.,

amber bramble
#

i have a bunch of monoprice zwave multisensors that chew through batteries like candy

undone aspen
#

They CLAIM the CR2 battery lasts up to 2 years. I call BS!

forest edge
#

well crap may have to redact my one post on the forums. for whatever reason the doorbell number isn't increasing all of a sudden.. damn chinese doorbells!

last dirge
#

zwave is completely different than wifi

amber bramble
#

probably doesn't help that I have the temp/humidity reporting thresholds super low though

last dirge
#

zwave can just wake up and transmit immediately

amber bramble
#

yeah

undone aspen
#

@amber bramble Heh. Yeah.

amber bramble
#

which means wifi based ones are going to chew through batteries even faster lol

last dirge
#

yeah

undone aspen
#

I'm just surprised the battery level reporting on my SmartThings contact sensors all got to about 42~47%, and stopped.

amber bramble
#

that happens with zwave devices too

#

they report battery level as % of voltage between 0 volts and 3 volts

clear ferry
#

Smartthings ๐Ÿคข

amber bramble
#

but require 1.5 volts to be able to function, so a 50% battery level report is basically the same as "dead"

undone aspen
#

heh

clear ferry
#

Nice thing about zigbee2mqtt, it reports the voltage

undone aspen
#

So, I should setup an automation to report when they're at 50% or less.

amber bramble
#

that's my biggest complaint with zwave, the firmware on most of the devices is awful

clever mortar
#

And updating is .... largely a non-starter

amber bramble
#

some devices have good battery reporting, but most of them are bad

clever mortar
#

My Fibaro goes from 90%+ to dead in a heartbeat

undone aspen
#

Yeah, my Kwikset Convert is not bad. It's currently around 40% and still not blinking red to indicate low power.

#

My Fibaro motion sensors, yah, those... Are wierd with battery levels.

undone aspen
#

i almost don't even want to buy Fibaro stuff anymore becuase of stuff like that.

shy comet
#

i dont really see a need to root the fire tablets since you can install google play services....would be nice to remove the bloat but thats about it for me

last dirge
#

how 'bout the fact it shows ads?

shy comet
#

you can call them and get them to remove it no need to pay for that lol

#

ive done that on all the tablets i bought from them

#

if one person says they cant do it you hang up and get the right person who doesnt care and does it for you lol

amber bramble
#

i rooted all the ones i have and installed lineageos

#

they are WAY faster

shy comet
#

i only have 1 fire HD7 rooted but its stuck on androd 5.1 due to hardware i tink

#

i followed some XDA guide

#

my other amazon tablest are fully updated with fire OS so i doubt i can root them lol

clear ferry
#

@shy comet @last dirge haha, that is the most American thing I've ever heard, you buy a product that you by default have to have ads on

scenic radish
#

well, you do get a discount

last dirge
#

well, it's a gigantic discount

scenic radish
#

it's optional

last dirge
#

I paid $35 for a tablet

#

that now lives on a wall in my kitchen

clear ferry
#

Rofl

#

That is hilarious

last dirge
#

next cheapest good quality tablet with similar specs was 4x that

#

so buy it, root it, ???, profit

#

or just use software that keeps it awake so it never shows the ads

clear ferry
#

It's still a hilarious concept

shy comet

Amazon knows us consumers very well lol
