clear ferry
#

@last dirge yeah, for me this is really not very much different from a regular week

tidal bronze
#

@dull chasm current setup with around 100+ devices. 50% of ESP connected to AC mesh units

dull chasm
#

ac mesh ? i havent looked at them

#

i got 86 devices 54 which are wireless

tidal bronze
#

54 nice! you are getting there 100+ wireless devices ๐Ÿ™‚

last dirge
#

I'm to the point where my ASUS router is aging and starting to have issues

#

need to do more WAPs

tidal bronze
dull chasm
clear ferry
#

Been very happy with the Linksys mesh points I bought does what I need

dull chasm
#

of course gateway is not reporting all clients

clear ferry
#

And if I need more I have 25 aps I can use for random stuff in my garage

dull chasm
#

damn @clear ferry send a couple here

tidal bronze
#

Linksys? Mannnnn brings back memories

dull chasm
#

oh not linksys

tidal bronze
#

Good ol WRT54G days ๐Ÿ™‚

dull chasm
#

no doubt but them damn things were bullet proof

#

@tidal bronze you have any idea why that esp in middle would not recieve communcations .... i could move 1 foot from under bed and it was fine

clear ferry
#

These are the velops, deliver 500 Mbit to my laptop without hickup

tidal bronze
#

If you are already running nano-hd get a AP AC LR. Turn off 5G and load all the 2.4 ESP on to that. You will be very happy. @dull chasm

clear ferry
#

Three of them for $130 when I bought them

midnight adder
#

lenovo smart clock

#

good investment or useless

last dirge
#

what makes it smart?

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze I really should bite the bullet and deal with opening up a wall/ceiling to put in a WAP

#

@midnight adder seems meh

midnight adder
#

i wasnt sure just asking haha

last dirge
#

could buy a Fire tablet for about half that and stick it on a little stand

light trout
#

Anything "smart" is most likely not a "good investment", but that does not mean they are useless

#

As for that clock spesific, I want one

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge yep worth it.

orchid rose
#

That doesn't use the Google smart display interface does it? I'd just get one of those instead

last dirge
#

@orchid rose the hub, you mean?

orchid rose
#

yes

light trout
#

I don't think so

orchid rose
#

or the alternatives

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze my problem is that my entire downstairs area except for a half bath has one contiguous ceiling

#

so if I have to patch and paint the ceiling, I have to do the whole damn ceiling

midnight adder
#

i want some screen on my night stand

last dirge
#

where do you put your phone at night?

midnight adder
#

dont want to use my ipad for it

#

on the ground next to me lol

#

i use it as an alarm clock

#

i dont have one

green inlet
#

Who needs clocks these days with Alexa/Google?

tidal bronze
midnight adder
#

fair

orchid rose
#

People who don't want to ask what time it is

last dirge
#

my 5GHz attenuation between floors is pretty shit

midnight adder
#

woman @green inlet

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge on in the middle might not work great. I would put 1 up and 1 down.

midnight adder
#

sorry to all smart home woman out here

#

yet my gf wont accept it

#

to use google

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze unless the range is exceptionally good, I'd have to put one in the garage too

green inlet
#

Yea, I get that.....my wife always says things like, โ€œturn off the bedroom lightโ€. When she can say, โ€œAlexa........turn off the bedroom lightโ€๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

tidal bronze
#

I do have one in the garage ๐Ÿ™‚ @last dirge

last dirge
#

I had to put one out there to get signal outside of my garage door so my car was happy

midnight adder
#

๐Ÿ˜›

last dirge
#

aluminum door with a wood facade

tidal bronze
#

I have 2 outside the house and 3 inside @last dirge

last dirge
#

but you live in a palace

tidal bronze
#

You can try one outside the garage

clear ferry
#

What I want to know is, is @valid halo ok

valid halo
#

Someone's worried about me?

clear ferry
#

@last dirge just go LoRA

valid halo
#

I am currently alive and not in hospital

last dirge
#

@clear ferry for what?

#

that looks like embedded stuff

clear ferry
#

Can be applied to mostly anything

last dirge
#

my car needs the wifi

#

for those sweet sweet firmware updates

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge you can actually try one in the top floor ceiling and one outside.

clear ferry
#

Make a pringles antenna

last dirge
#

cantenna?

#

what's the proper name for that?

clear ferry
#

I had a friend who has a Tesla and parking 20 meters from the house, he built one after asking me and got firmware upgrades going lmao

last dirge
#

Yagi?

valid halo
#

Oh man

#

Teslas

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge I don't think using the ASUS as the baseline for penetration is a good idea ๐Ÿ™‚

last dirge
#

Teslas FTW

valid halo
#

The more I hear about them the more I'm glad I can't get one.

clear ferry
#

Shitty cars, nice concept

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze I'm not, I'm using my other WAP as a baseline

tidal bronze
#

Which one?

last dirge
#

my desktop that's almost directly above it has about 50% signal degradation

tidal bronze
#

hmmm

last dirge
#

it's probably ~10 feet to the side

tidal bronze
#

do you have lead lining ๐Ÿ™‚

last dirge
#

heh

#

I haven't tried changing the placement of the antenna on the desktop

clear ferry
#

I even have full coverage in my concrete garage from the floor above jesus

last dirge
#

it's an ASRock motherboard with an external antenna

gentle ferry
#

hey guys, what motion sensors do you recommend? (zigbee / zwave)

tidal bronze
#

So from desktop about 18' to AP ?

clear ferry
#

@gentle ferry Xiaomi 4 lyfe

last dirge
#

@gentle ferry what stuff do you already have?

#

@tidal bronze closer

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge nothing at all, i'm just starting to make a list of what to get ๐Ÿ˜„

last dirge
#

then either

tidal bronze
#

That might be the AP antenna config itself then

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge either what?

last dirge
#

@tidal bronze it's also mounted vertically which could be screwing with stuff

#

@gentle ferry either zigbee or zwave

green inlet
#

Pick an ecosystem and stick with it.

last dirge
#

either one's going to need a radio to talk to the network

#

just see what else is available for whatever protocol you think you want to go with

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge yeah I meant what specific brand/model is recommended. I will be using HA, and a zigbee/zwave stick

last dirge
#

the one that ticks the most boxes wins

#

I haven't heard great things about that combo stick

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge it was the one that was recommended in here

clear ferry
#

Cc1352 + Xiaomi + tradfri, great budget, great functionality

scenic radish
#

@last dirge i've had good luck with it at least

last dirge
#

@clear ferry can you do tradfri without their gateway yet?

scenic radish
#

rumor has it there was a bad batch of them made about a year ago

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge no info on radiation pattern on that AP datasheet ๐Ÿ™‚

clear ferry
#

Of course @last dirge you always have

last dirge
#

oh, cool

scenic radish
#

guys let's all ping @last dirge

last dirge

clear ferry

@last dirge @last dirge

scenic radish
#

Brian LONGNAME Cribbs

tidal bronze
#

lol

clear ferry
#

Atleast his name is long PepePopcorn

tidal bronze
#

wowza

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge do you think sticking to a specific protocol is a better idea?

clear ferry
#

His car is short

last dirge
#

@gentle ferry if what @scenic radish said is true, they may have fixed the issues with the stick I was familiar with

#

in which case, it doesn't matter

gentle ferry
#

I see

green inlet
#

@gentle ferry , also depends on the number of devices you plan on having. The more devices in a single protocol, the better the mesh

last dirge
#

yes

tidal bronze
#

Not really

dull chasm
#

@tidal bronze i went ahead a got another nano and a LR ....if it dont work right i am billing ya

tidal bronze
#

sure thing

scenic radish
#

i'm heavily biased toward zigbee but i do have a couple z-wave devices

dull chasm
#

twice amount of parts ....pain and suffering ...labor .....

gentle ferry
#

@green inlet so far, only thing planned are switches and motion sensors (for controlling said switches)

scenic radish
#

anything that i can get that supports zigbee i'll probably go zigbee, but if there's no zigbee version, z-wave it is

green inlet
#

You wonโ€™t stop there....๐Ÿ˜‰

tidal bronze
#

@green inlet I run. Wifi, zigbee, zwave and zwave plus not a single issue.

gentle ferry
#

@green inlet you are 100% correct, lol

green inlet
#

Yes @tidal bronze but you probably have 300 devices in each protocol

#

๐Ÿคฃ

clear ferry
#

Closing in on 100 ZigBee here PepeLightsabers

last dirge
#

I'm small time with ~40ish z-wave switches

gentle ferry
#

so I guess my question should be, what brands/models do you guys use or had the best experience with for switches and motion sensors (both zigbee/zwave, doens't matte) ๐Ÿ™‚

#

since i'm really new. to the automation game, i know nothing

tidal bronze
#

@green inlet lol not there yet. 100+ wifi, about 80 z wave plus, about 40 zwave and 30 or so zigbee

gentle ferry
#

im not familiar with brands and what they can provide

#

all i want is stuff that doesn't connect to the outside 3rd party shit

green inlet
#

I just counted, 28 zwave devices including my usb ๐Ÿคฃ

scenic radish
#

@clear ferry damn son. how many of each device type do you have?

last dirge
#

power adapter or something else?

tidal bronze
#

No, wifi bands

green inlet
#

You guys are all going to get some 2015 disease from all the signal bouncing around your house ๐Ÿคฃ

tidal bronze
#

I agree lol

#

Oh and about 8, 433Mhz devices as well.

dull chasm
#

@last dirge thats the exact one i just ordered

gentle ferry
#

is there a room specifically for equipment/hardware?

scenic radish
tidal bronze
#

@gentle ferry no one method is the RIGHT one. You have to do some research, trial and error to find the best for your needs.

clear ferry
#

@scenic radish most tradfri lights, but the rest Xiaomi sensors, door, motion, buttons etc

scenic radish
#

ah gotcha

#

i have 23 zigbee devices, 11 of which are lights

gentle ferry
#

@tidal bronze got it, thanks

clear ferry
#

50+ are lights here

green inlet
#

Itโ€™s like anything else, ask 10 different people in here and you will prob get 11 different answers

last dirge
#

@dull chasm are you doing PoE?

gentle ferry
#

haha

green inlet
#

Everyone likes what they like

dull chasm
#

yes

gentle ferry
#

btw, does HA run ok on a pi2?

last dirge
#

what switch?

green inlet
#

I have been happy with zwave

last dirge
#

or are you using injectors?

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge comes with the POE adapter

clear ferry
#

PoE 4 lyfe

last dirge
#

questions on the listing say it doesn't

dull chasm
clear ferry
#

@gentle ferry no

last dirge
dull chasm
#

this will go on 24 port

last dirge
#

that's a lot of coin on switches you've got there

green inlet
#

I would get a pi 3 at minimum but I guess it will run on a 2

dull chasm
#

well they are the home runs to rooms and shed etc

clear ferry
#

@last dirge don't make me pull up my switches lmao

tidal bronze
#

@last dirge that's BS. What power supply? It only has a POE port lol

green inlet
#

56 ports

#

๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

#

Wouldnโ€™t know what to do with 45 of them

#

๐Ÿคฃ

#

Ok, maybe 40

clear ferry
#

You should see the 768 port switches I install then @green inlet

green inlet
#

At your house?

tidal bronze
#

๐Ÿคฃ

dull chasm
#

@green inlet adding another switch for 8 more to master bedroom ..... i dont have enough ethernet wires run to each room

clear ferry
#

No, I only have 96g+8xg+4fg in my core, and 24g+4xg in my distribution lmao @green inlet

green inlet
#

I saw a post somewhere where a guy building his house had like 350 home runs. Just in case๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

clear ferry
#

If I built a house now I would have atleast 4 runs to every room

#

Probably more

tidal bronze
#

@green inlet are you talking about me? lol

dull chasm
#

@tidal bronze no shit ....how many runs to each room ?

tidal bronze
#

8

green inlet
#

Ok, 4 runs to every room would mean, like almost 100 room house

gentle ferry
#

@clear ferry damn, i have one lying around. Gotta buy a pi4 I guess

clear ferry
#

Or a proper machine

dull chasm
#

damn i expected 16 ๐Ÿคฃ

gentle ferry
#

@clear ferry lol, so a pi4 vs docker on an older machine?

clear ferry
#

Latter

green inlet
#

@gentle ferry , when I first started, I would agree with you. If you even think you are going to grow. Might as well get a NUC and just be done with it

#

Although my current system runs absolutely perfect on a pi3

#

These guys just like to have penis size competitions.

#

๐Ÿคฃ

clear ferry
gentle ferry
#

@green inlet my current home "server" is an old thinkpad (i7 L620, 2GHZ and 8GB RAM), so far satisfying all my needs

#

lol

green inlet
#

That would be better than a pi2

gentle ferry
#

yeah I bet, I don't use CPU intensive stuff

#

it's running several services

green inlet
#

Auh, not dedicated to HAss

#

I like the pi because of its small footprint. It can be hidden away and not taking up space somewhere

gentle ferry
#

was thinking of HA in docker

green inlet
#

That would be for another channel

last dirge
#

I put in 4 runs to my media center

gentle ferry
#

I have a pi3 running pi-hole and unifi

last dirge
#

I almost immediately had to add a switch

green inlet
#

Bump to a pi4 for Pihole, or even a droid, and use pi3 for HAss

last dirge
#

my receiver, IR blaster, ShieldTV, and WAP ate them all up

gentle ferry
#

@green inlet good idea, but do you think that HA in docker isn't good enough on that system?

green inlet
#

I donโ€™t use docker so ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธ

last dirge
#

docker on a Pi is asking for problems IMO

green inlet
#

So we can get on to more important things like me WFH for the first time in 30 years

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge no, i meant docker on the thinkpad i mentioned above, in addition to some "home" services

#

haha

last dirge
#

oh

gentle ferry
#

@green inlet what do you do? i mean anybody working in IT has WFH as normal

clever mortar
#

Depends on where you are, and who you work for

last dirge
#

I run a NUC with Ubuntu

clever mortar
#

WFH is not normal for most of the world ๐Ÿ˜‰

last dirge
#

and dockerized a bunch of stuff

green inlet
#

During the day....I sell candy to small children.....at night i part-time as a pimp

#

Canโ€™t do that from home

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge i really want a NUC, but then considering of building a small AMD case

clear ferry
#

WFH doesn't work with military IT lmao

gentle ferry
#

@green inlet haha, i'll try to guess

#

so you're a sales guy during the day, and hosting online services at night?

#

@last dirge how do you manage your backups? a separate machine for that?

last dirge
#

backups of what?

#

hass config?

gentle ferry
#

of everything ๐Ÿ˜„

#

your life ie

clear ferry
#

Multiple places

#

A backup is useless unless it is atleast two copies

midnight adder
#

or 3!

clear ferry
#

Most go for three

last dirge
#

my hass config is kind of convoluted

#

my secret stuff is symlinked into my home directory from a separate NFS mount from everything else

#

rsnapshot backs that up

#

the rest has its own rsnapshot backup as well but is also a github repository so I can sync it that way

clever mortar
#

My backups are:
0) SD card images (for Pi)

  1. Local (on box) snapshots if appropriate
  2. Local (network) backups (rsnapshot) - multiple destinations for critical stuff
  3. Cloud backups (rclone) - multiple destinations for critical stuff
#

Local covers normal recovery. Cloud covers fire/theft/other disaster

gentle ferry
#

I use borg backup, really good stuff

#

cool

last dirge
#

@clever mortar what provider are you using for your cloud backups?

clever mortar
#

I'm using B2 and Google

#

B2 for the bulk, Google for the bits of duplicates

#

I think I'm finally paying more than $0.50 a month for my B2 usage ๐Ÿ˜„

gentle ferry
#

I don't use cloud, even tho I should

#

for a 2nd backup ie

clear ferry
#

I currently have 5TB in Google cloud for $20 a month,so far happy

gentle ferry
#

hmm not bad

clear ferry
#

Gonna move 10TB more there when I have time

gentle ferry
#

do you have to pay more if you want to download yoru stuff?

last dirge
#

does Jungle Drive still exist?

#

@gentle ferry no, Google's stuff is all hot storage

gentle ferry
#

noice

strange vapor
#

I'm using Digital Ocean's Object Storage stuff, and it just works.

#

Not too expensive either. Definitely cheaper than AWS S3 for my usage.

clear ferry
#

I'm looking forward to deploy some MAPR

gentle ferry
#

what's that

wintry crow
#

I've been wfh for almost 2 years now. SOOOOO much more productive without having to do any peopling

clear ferry
#

@gentle ferry global namespace storage

#

MapR was a business software company headquartered in Santa Clara, California. MapR software provides access to a variety of data sources from a single computer cluster, including big data workloads such as Apache Hadoop and Apache Spark, a distributed file system, a multi-mod...

wintry crow
#

Damn, Linda Lusardi has "the virus". There's a name from my youth...

gentle ferry
#

wow, zwave hardware is expensive

clear ferry
#

Yes, hence ZigBee

#

I bought 3 zwave devices and discovered I could buy 4-5 ZigBee devices for each zwave device and dropped it

gentle ferry
#

oh zigbee is cheaper? sounds good, but why cheaper? is zwave somehow better than zigbee in something?

clear ferry
#

Zwave used to be licensed, ZigBee was open

#

WiFi is even cheaper, if you build it yourself you can get devices for a few dollars

gentle ferry
#

yeah, espXX is pretty cheap, but i was thinking of going the mesh path, I guess i'll have to mix

wintry crow
#

esp8266 can do mesh networking

gentle ferry
#

interesting

strange vapor
#

Having a "Virtual Happy Hour"

Tis a bit of fun!

last dirge

when I started z-wave had far better quality hardware and reliability

gentle ferry
#

anybody tried the ikea tradfri stuff? i can see it's zigbee

#

@last dirge and it's not right now?

light trout
last dirge
#

there's still way better hardware available for z-wave stuff since it just recently went open-source there's not a ton of manufacturers producing low-quality hardware with z-wave radios in it

clear ferry
#

Tradfri 4 lyfe

last dirge
#

with zigbee, there are a TON of manufacturers and you should definitely look for feedback on whatever you're going to buy before buying it

clear ferry
#

Rgb is meh

#

But CT is good

gentle ferry
#

@last dirge got it

#

@clear ferry so I assume you had pleasant experience with ikea ?

clear ferry
#

I have 50+ bulbs

last dirge

how the hell do you have so many bulbs?

#

tons of can lights?

clear ferry

That is just the tradfri ones @last dirge

gentle ferry
#

isn't it a better idea getting a smart switch instead of a bulb?

clear ferry
#

I have more than that

last dirge
#

@gentle ferry IMO, absolutely

clear ferry
#

Can't do circadian lighting with smart switches

last dirge

damn you gigantic URL

clear ferry

Nice a base64 encoded something

clever mortar

Smart switch where there's a switch
Smart light elsewhere

gentle ferry

@clever mortar if not switch, then a smart plug

last plaza
#

If you put a smart switch to a smart bulb, you double the smartness

gentle ferry
#

always better than a bulb imo..

last dirge
#

eh

clear ferry
#

I have 14 tradfri and one gledopto in my main floor living room

last dirge
#

for lamps and such, bulbs are probably just as easy

#

not nearly as cheap as a plug though

#

@clear ferry you should get that checked out

#

gledopto sounds painful

clear ferry
#

And 5 tradfri and 2 yeelight in my upstairs living room

#

And 3 tradfri, 2 hue and 1 gledopto in my kitchen

#

2 hue and 1 yeelight in my bedroom, 2 tradfri in my daughter's bedroom

clear ferry
#

3 tradfri and 2 hue in my wife's office and 3 tradfri in my office

#

6 tradfri in the basement, and 12 tradfri outdoors

#

And come to think of it, 2 tradfri in the WC, and two in the outer hallway PepePopcorn

gentle ferry
#

@clear ferry and how many tradfri sensors you got

#

motion sensors I mean

clear ferry
#

None

#

I have 4 in a box though

clever mortar
#

Their motion sensors are ok motion sensors, and useless light sensors

last dirge
#

most light sensors are useless light sensors

#

unless you pay out the ass for it

clever mortar
#

The Z-Wave ones are great ๐Ÿ˜„

clear ferry
#

I have 3 Xiaomi motion sensors, 5 Xiaomi door sensors, 7 Xiaomi buttons and 2 Xiaomi cubes though

last dirge
#

@clever mortar which ones?

#

the ones that look like the eye of sauron?

clever mortar
#

Fibaro and Aeotec multi-sensors

last dirge
#

so yes ๐Ÿ™‚

clever mortar
#

The Fibaro looks better when you turn the light down ๐Ÿ˜„

last dirge
#

how long are you getting out of the battery?

clever mortar
#

6 to 9 months on that one

#

So ... lousy

last dirge
#

what's it use?

clever mortar
#

Lives in the living room, handling all the lighting related automations

gentle ferry
#

I bet fibaro stuff is expensive, was just looking at their eye of sauron

#

really nice design

clear ferry
#

My oldest Xiaomi motion is now at 1 year, and it is still reporting 100% battery

last dirge
#

Fibaro seems to be bigger outside of the US

clear ferry
#

They are very big in Norway

#

My friends who just buy overpriced shit like homey buy fibaro

last dirge
#

@clever mortar looks like new ones use CR123s

clever mortar
#

I think that's the one I've got

last dirge
#

they say 2 years

clever mortar
#

I may have reporting set too high for that ๐Ÿ˜„

last dirge
#

I still have a wired alarm panel in the basement

#

may end up just putting in more wired PIRs and use those

gentle ferry
#

@clever mortar so the ikea motion sensor has a short range or a slow trigger?

clear ferry
#

The zwave neo coolcams I have use 123s

clever mortar
#

Oh, sorry, Xiaomi

#

Got my brands mixed up ๐Ÿ˜„

last dirge

they're all zwave aren't they?

gentle ferry

@clear ferry report back after testing those ikea motion sensors

If the site hasn't updated yet, it'll be in the queue

gentle ferry

talking about the Aeotec Multisensor 6

clever mortar

Z-Wave is pricy, because it's a full standard

#

Zigbee is cheap, because it's the Wild Wild West

gentle ferry
#

@sleek void ikea is priced reasonably, i mean $10 for the sensor isn't bad

river rune
#

Zigbee is also a full standard

gentle ferry
#

but yeah i see your point @clever mortar

river rune
#

it just ins't controlled and regulated by a single company

clever mortar
#

Zigbee 3.0 is becoming a full standard

#

Before that, it was far from it

#

1.2 was some vague guidance by comparison

#

With Z-Wave devices all work together

river rune
#

Most of the time... I have had several z-wave devices that continuously disconnect.

#

I have had more problems with z-wave than zigbee tbh

@rain swift RTFM is a well known phrase, used when someone hasn't taken time to read the documentation. Please take time to Read The $%#@ Manual - author unknown.

last plaza
#

lol - look for releases link in there

#

yup - the package I got is different... did you get the battery pack too? I don't have that

rain swift
#

I missed the link at first

#

nope

#

its pretty basic, fine with me

#

I can pick the other stuff i want

#

crazy how small it is

last plaza
#

yup

rain swift
#

there's no room to fit any usb cables I have into it lol wtf

#

may have to rip one up to get it to fit

last plaza
#

you don't need to connect both power and usb at the same time

#

just the USB is good enough

rain swift
#

I thought you did

#

lol

#

well hold on then ๐Ÿ˜„

last plaza
#

I was told to use both, but then it worked with just the USB for me. apparently the older versions require both power and usb

rain swift
#

the manual for mine says to

#

lol

#

but no it shouldn't need to thats dumb its loading up like a flash drive

#

loaded right up in linux, score

#

its complaining about not enough space

#

its only 2meg? lame

#

got it

#

it loads 2 different things apparently

last plaza
#

ah... I never ran into that error - like I said, it took like 2 seconds for me

rain swift
#

yeah, so I loaded it, unplugged it, then brought it back up holding the button down and the rdy file is gone, I wonder if that means it undid itself, how do you verify you're running the firmware?

last plaza
#

the RDY file should be there...

#

irrespective it should work if you plug that thing in

rain swift
#

yeah

#

its doing auto screen rotation and all so I think i'm good

#

I never turned it on to see what the stock firmware looked like

#

have you used it yet? what temp do you usually run on.

last plaza
#

I did. I used at 400 degrees, and it heated up instantly

rain swift
#

score

#

what are you using to hold the brass brillo type stuff for the tip, do they sell one that is weighted, saw complaints about some of them being too light and sliding around the table

last plaza
#

I have those already at home

rain swift
#

does that all look good, am I missing anything

last plaza
#

I like your survival list there ๐Ÿ˜‰

#

bigfoot camera? ๐Ÿ˜‚ you should have LifeStraw in there

rain swift
#

I have 2 Sawyer minis. :)

#

But the priority now is soldering lol

#

I do need a camera outside the front door, I rent, so kinda limited, have a power outlet, dunno if I like cams that only turn on with motion

last plaza
#

yes, they do. they run on batteries, and only start to capture images when there is a PIR motion

don't worry, you haven't escaped the Purge just yet lol

Lol

Thinking of playing The Purge track through the truck PA system tonight around 11๐Ÿ˜‚

clear ferry
#

I lost no limbs today, and half my hedge is cut

clever mortar
#

Did anybody else lose limbs?

clear ferry
#

That is irrelevant

#

I'm really curious about total numbers of tested in the US vs positive ones, I just saw the UK actually posted how many tests they had done

#

72k tests with 5k positives is high, but not as high as I thought

#

Had a colleague on a conference call mention his state only had 69 positive, but if that is of 100 tested awkward

clever mortar
#

Of course, it's all about your sample

#

If you're testing those most likely to have it based on symptoms, vs random, vs something else

clear ferry
#

Indeed, tbh the test should be mandatory with all the tests they have developed now it shouldn't be hard to implement

rain swift
#

neva

#

I will not be tested, I will not take a vaccine. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

clever mortar
#

0.44 calibre vaccine required then ๐Ÿ˜‰

clear ferry
#

Finally some good news @rain swift jesus

#

๐Ÿ’ฉ

rain swift
#

hahahha, sure, I'm ready lol

#

should have everything I need to start soldering next week.

#

wondering if a flux pen is worth it. I ordered 60/40 flux core .6 solder, and a tin of rosin flux

last plaza
#

@rain swift you better buy all the survival stuff right away ๐Ÿคฃ

rain swift
#

That's a few things I was thinking about, I've got plenty of stuff already, all the way down to faro rods to start fires lol

#

I'm good.

#

Invested in plenty of lead and brass

last plaza
#

I am looking for ideas for my next project. Not sure what to do. 3D printer idea is on the back burner for now.

rain swift
#

I'll get a 3D printer at some point, I need to be able to make enclosures for stuff I build.

#

Not sure what I wanna do next besides learn to solder, and I can't imagine that will even be hard.

tidal bronze
#

Doing some garden work today. Got some new Rose trees

#

Next up planting some veggies. ๐Ÿ˜„

rain swift

No yard work to do in the condo complex

#

I haven't tried to look into audio stuff for the TV in a while, are there systems now with surround sound where the speakers are wireless for the signal?

last plaza
#

@tidal bronze why do you need veggies? You canโ€™t grow meat? ๐Ÿ˜œ

rain swift
#

Veggies are what my dinner eats.

i'm permanent WFH, was an easy transition for me. My wife though, that's been interesting

#

she's a public school teacher and no one is really sure how to handle that right now

clear ferry
#

Do they do any remote school @wet pilot ?

#

I'm Norway it is about 50/50 who have ever done that before, most universities and colleges do remote training all the time, primary / secondary mostly only do it for foreign language students / immigrants

#

My wife's university records every class and puts it online, and my college did that from 2002 onwards

wet pilot
#

they're trying to figure that part out. seems like they want to but they've already canceled the annual standardized testing
