Actually, that is pretty close 😂

Just add some gators in

Exactly

#

I knew it

#

Git her done @dull chasm

unkempt night
#

Hey, would it be worth doing a fresh install of HA since I've been running a HA server for the last year and a half, lots of stuff changed since then

dull chasm
#

LOL i will bet lots of money ....i have more guns than u

#

and ammo

#

@unkempt night possible then you can add back little by little ..or just read change notes

unkempt night
#

Yeah thats what im thinking

#

I've been keeping up with change notes

#

I'd imagine there is traces of previous intergrations that no longer work etc

clear ferry
#

I have 0, you win @dull chasm

dull chasm
#

LOL

#

@unkempt night i see your point thou ...with fresh your instance will be up then you can test little by little with added configs

unkempt night
#

I'll be honest the only automations I have right now are smart plug notifications for my washing machine etc

You mean "the south" Vasiley? 😂

dull chasm
#

yes louisiana ...we still have parishes (instead of county) based on the church

clever mortar
#

@unkempt night Try the relevant install method channel - HA related questions are off topic here 😉

clear ferry

Norway finally separated state and church a few years ago

#

I still had to opt out of being a member of the church, for the third time...

well it is seperate just we follow the church and never saw a reason to change

scenic radish

@clever mortar the fossil collider is a nonstarter for me. You were right, it only supports notifications from 13 apps. They're supposed to release support for a longer list of apps by the end of the year but it's still terrible. Such a disappointment

#

I can't buy it and just hope they release support for all apps, that'd be dumb

clever mortar
#

Yeah.... need to wait and see what they actually do, vs what they promise

Not bad

#

@clear ferry no idea I'll add One back on a bit

clear ferry
scenic radish

i like the to watch atxbyea lot, but the lack of notifications is a total deal breaker

shame too because it's 30% off on fossil's website, making it $135 before tax

Last time I was in a locker room with older men, they started whistling Take On Me by a-ha.
Surprised me a bit, until I realized that song is 35 years old, and those old men where my age back then...

scenic radish
#

that music video is pretty cool

low harness
#

I love it

scenic radish
#

it's like a fever dream

#

as the discord preview probably indicates

final acorn
#

does anybody knows some complex software which will be able to retrieve from folders/metadata tags/dbs all files filtered by date&time, gps, metatag name etc

#

for example: Give me all images with John

#

another example: Give me all documents created before 01/01/2020

#

I want to be able to see documents (pdfs, docs, xlsx, txt), images (png, jpeg, bmp), videos (mkv,mp4, avi..)

low harness
#

Those are waaaay different problems...

clever mortar
#

Google though... they did sell a search appliance

low harness
#

Any OS can sort by date. Lots of programs can do gps coordinates for pictures. Saying if John is in a picture is... tough... and processing video in the same way is a whole other level.

#

Didn't they kill that in 2018?

clever mortar
#

No idea, I don't know anybody that actually bought it

scenic radish
#

Didn't they kill that in 2018?
certainly sounds like google

clever mortar
#

Nah, if it really was Google it'd be when did they kill it

scenic radish
#

true lol. also tinkerer i think instead of buying the collider i'm gonna hang on to my PTR for dear life and buy a pixel 3a xl instead

#

i'm hoping it goes down to $379 on amazon like at best buy, google store, etc. because i have $100 in amazon credit

#

and i'm currently still on the OG pixel xl

clever mortar
#

Snap

#

I debated getting a 3A XL in the current sale, but... there's nothing really wrong with the phone

scenic radish
#

yeah i like the pixel xl but the lack of future updates now is gonna be a killer for me

#

guess a custom rom is always an option, as long as it doesn't kill google pay

clever mortar
#

Oh, I agree, but I'm only going to worry about that with Android 11 - at which time the Pixel 5 will be on the horizon

scenic radish
#

that's a good point

#

given google's recent work with the pixel line though, i don't have much confidence...

clever mortar
#

I'm not ready to buy a phone without a fingerprint sensor

#

Maybe the face unlock won't be a train wreck next year

hushed basalt
#

@final acorn kyno can probably do what you want

#

It's not free but it's good

final acorn
#

thanks guys

#

just I wanted to implement, for example I have a problem with my bank account

#

I enter home, and say hey Alexa, give me my records from bank from period 01/01/2020 - 01/03/2020

#

or my friend come to me, and I want to show our photos/videos

#

I need just some ultra heavy-duty complex prgram for all of that

#

and above of that user management, permissions etc

#

I was thinking to buy qnap nas

scenic radish
#

@clever mortar can't give up the fingerprint sensor. it's dumb but my fiancee has the 3a xl and i'm jealous that she has AOD and i don't lol

Really now Gizmodo? you sound surprised bro...

scenic radish

that should have been obvious to them when amazon put alexa in a microwave lol

something that you always have to physically interact with to use

unreal orbit
#

That is until they release the Echo Bot that can go grab your food for you

low harness
#

The fact that you have one forced interface never stopped people from adding another, stupider, one...

rigid quiver
#

Also most microwaves have way too many number buttons. You could easily remove half of them.

low harness
#

Like when pumping gas, and you have to move your hand from the physical number buttons where you just typed your bank pin, take off your gloves in the freezing cold, and select a pump number from a touch screen.

rigid quiver
#

I know of one chain of pumps here that use the same keypad for both.

low harness
#

They all used to!

scenic radish

pump number?

#

never had to do that

low harness

Then someone decided they had to have a touch screen, because give me your money, that’s why!

scenic radish

i just have to enter my zip code for my card

with the physical keypad

unreal orbit

Some states don't even allow people to pump their own gas

@dull chasm I won't respond to that out of fear that the discussion will get too political 😉

things like that dont have too ...its just as simple as people need to work and a couple cents per gallon is worth it

#

i am not a political person at all but people need to support them self's regardless of skill/education

unreal orbit
#

The topic by nature is political because it's a situation being created by government regulation

clear ferry

@scenic radish you are allowed to pump your own gas in your state?

scenic radish

yessir

#

in most states lol

unreal orbit
#

AFAIK it's an East coast thing

scenic radish
#

there are like 2 that you can't for some...unknown reason

clear ferry
#

In the United States, gas jockeys were often tipped for their services, but this is now rare as full-service stations are uncommon except in the states New Jersey and Oregon (counties with more than 40,000 residents), the town of Weymouth, Massachusetts, and the town of Huntington, New York, where retail customers are prohibited by law from pumping their own gasoline.

dull chasm
#

oregon started it

scenic radish
#

so strange

unreal orbit
#

Oh my. I can taste the entitlement

clear ferry
#

Oregon natives pumping their own gas

dull chasm
#

it actually came up in discussion of retial envoriments ....more retial is moving to self serve (checking your self out etc) store still charges same amout for product but pays out less in labor .... so they toke it vote and it won ....

clear ferry
#

I wish there was more self service, we have slowly adopted it in Norway the last 6+ years

#

In stores that is, and kiosks

wet pilot
#

the self serve kiosks are obnoxious sometimes

clear ferry
#

And even in gas stations we can buy windscreen wash and cleaning at the pump

wet pilot
#

i want a konami code to get it to STFU and run like a normal checkout

#

let me scan everything and then check the weights at the end

clear ferry

Yeah, I remember the grocery kiosk robotwe had in my hometown in... Early 2000s

dull chasm

i hate them ... i like real people ...but the i am very happy with the vote system ...i will go with and be happy with the way the vote goes ...that is how it should work

It was buggy as hell

they want you to do the work but they don't trust you to do the work

Hello

scenic radish
#

@trail crag does ipv6 really even matter for devices on a local network? i understand why it will eventually be needed for WAN, but why would devices on a LAN even need an ipv6 address?

#

i'm guessing it's because the router would need to use ipv6 addresses on the LAN if it's using ipv6 to connect to the Internet but still... couldn't there be a clever way to use ipv4 on LAN and ipv6 for WAN?

#

WAN WAN WAN

rigid quiver
#

There is no nat in ipv6 and there is no good way to tunnel v6 over 4 for clients. Ipv4 just needs to die.

#

There are decent ways to do ipv6 to v4 translation but not the other way around.

scenic radish
#

Ah gotcha, makes sense.

#

forgot about the lack of NAT with ipv6. that's certainly nice

clever mortar
#

My HA server can be reached, externally and internally, over IPv4 or IPv6 - it's pretty neat

clear ferry
#

IPv6, played with it since ludeeus was born

#

Not yet comfortable with it

storm summit

ipv6 is a hoax

hushed basalt
#

It's a Chinese back door

scenic radish

ipv4 addresses are certainly easier to remember

hushed basalt
#

I need to go full ipv6

#

But my router doesn't support it. Sigh

#

Plus I don't understand it so I'm not sure where I would be leaving myself vulnerable

strange vapor
#

Native IPv6 is easy until you have to talk to IPv4.

#

I run a native IPv6 network where the biggest pain points are NAT64 and DNS64.

#

Oh, and MySQL was evicted as it's permissions setup was a pain for IPv6.

#

On a related note, give a server a name starting with a number, and try to grant it privs in MySQL....

#

It will fail when you attempt to connect.

#

MySQL will parse it as an ip due to it starting with a number.....

#

This is a known "security" feature and won't be fixed!

wet pilot
#

rofl

same in maria?

strange vapor
#

Haven't tried. Moved to Postgres and haven't looked back.

hushed basalt

I think number as first character breaks a lot of things

strange vapor

Postgresql's IP and JSON types make life easier, and I have some PostGIS fun going on as well.

#

@hushed basalt Fair, but justifying it as a security measure is sub optimal!

scenic radish
#

I have ipv6 enabled on my router but I don't think it's actually doing anything lol

#

My ISP supports it

strange vapor
#

@scenic radish By bulk, most of my traffic is IPv6 due to Netflix, Youtube and VPNs to servers.

Almost 30% of Google's traffic is IPv6 these days.

#

No more IPv4 available via normal allocation means, and Carrier Grade NAT will only carry ISPs so far. Expect to see more and more mobile carriers in particular start dabbling in IPv6

scenic radish
#

guess i'm glad i have an ipv4 address through my ISP... at least for now

strange vapor
#

A lot of ISPs already considering removing public IPv4 from residential connections. If you want a public IPv4 you can pay for the privilege by upgrading to Business!

Won't work as expected if your "public" ip is an RFC1918 behind an ISP NAT!

strange vapor

It's coming 😦 IPv4 are becoming a valuable commodity. The established ISPs will start selling off a load of subnets as they're now valuable, while most residential behind NAT. After all, most users really won't care as long as they can get their social media and streaming services. Meanwhile, new ISPs will push IPv6 hard as it's cheaper!

hopefully comcast is as reasonable as other ISPs when they inevitably switch

young sigil

I also do not understand ipv6. Can you use it for a public address and keep the internal network nice sane ipv4?

scenic radish

apparently there's no real way to route ipv6 to ipv4

#

😄

young sigil
#

No ipv6 to ipv4 NAT? Well that's just mad.

scenic radish
#

Yeah I'm surprised that can't be done. ipv4 addresses are easy to remember. ipv6 are... the stuff of nightmares

wet pilot
#

i thought 6 -> 4 was fine but going the other way was the problem

clear ferry
#

What did you dream? It's alright we told you what to dream

#

@young sigil would have been even better if you said MAD !

young sigil
#

Is that some sort of TLA?

clear ferry
#

Yeah, atleast for Comware IRF it is what is used for split brain scenarios where all stacking links are down

#

I just call it mutually assured destruction, but it is called something else in comware

#

But it really does mutually assured destruction, no links come up

#

Come to think of it, I think I have installed some servers that calculate for met.no so I'm intertwined with the HA project, six degrees of separation and such

hushed basalt
#

No more work!

Officially finished

young sigil
#

So you are now an officially unemployed hobo? @clear ferry ohhh that MAD.

strange vapor
#

@scenic radish You can get an IPv6 only network talking to IPv4, I go to FOSDEM in Brussels every year, and their wireless network is IPv6 only. DNS64 and NAT64 at the edge allows communiction to "Legacy" IPv4 endpoints 🙂

In relation to the FOSDEM network, a couple of years ago, they made the main FOSEDM network IPv6 only and FOSDEM-Legacy as dual stack. They have lovely Grafana dashboards during the conference which should number of clients on each and what they are in terms of OS/Manufacturer.

When they went IPv6 only, the main casuality was Andoird!! Android at the time wouldn't bring up an interface if it only had an IPv6 address. Every other OS didn't really care.

clear ferry
#

@hushed basalt that is not what she said!

strange vapor
#

This was pointed out publicly on stage during the closing session, and there was lots of Google and Core Android devs in the audience.

hushed basalt

#

So I'm just back where i started

#

Hakko has a god awful interface. Weller catches on fire and has a garbage stand

clear ferry
#

We had an awesome smd solder station at school, complete setup was $40k class I think, it even had solder sucking in the iron if memory serves right

young sigil
#

If you can afford it and dont need the portability the JBC is out of the TS Miniware league. I have a Hakko DS whatever and agree. I just set the temp and forget.

#

Pretty sure I mentioned I'm in love with the Metcal stations we use at work. $$$ more still though.

clear ferry
#

I should reach out to some music contacts of mine and mention that my workbench is usable again

#

I miss troubleshooting amps and stuff

young sigil
#

Don't do that musos are worse than yachties when it comes to paying for work.

clear ferry
#

Pff, usually they pay me in music equipment

#

Which I approve of ASpfft

#

I talked to some guys at a local music shop they said that mostly all amp repair was done by one guy in Oslo, and he hardly ever has time

#

Must be an untapped market

strange vapor
#

@clear ferry Do whata friend of mine does, go to local car boot sales and their equivs. He gets old amps and effects cheap, repairs them and sells them at a nice profit.

clear ferry
#

As a hobby it is a great side business catparty

strange vapor
#

He has gone to three days a week for actual work!

#

And the rest is a hobby that makes him money!

clear ferry
#

@strange vapor tried advertising for that, but people in Norway are fucking idiots, they want full retail price for a broken amp

strange vapor
#

Strangely, he won't take in other people's gear to fix at a price. He prefers to buy old stuff where there's no outside pressure to get it fixed.

clear ferry

what are some good WAF systems for interfaces? I've been seeing lovelace for desktop browser, and i see some apps (ie, Ariela) that claim support for lovelace (although I don't understand what that truly means yet except maybe reading panel configs, but it certainly isn't the same UI right? wouldn't lovelace have css for mobile built-in for mobile?)

Anyway, just looking for something i can throw on a tablet for quick, clean, sexy ui access

WAF = "wife acceptance factor"

The best is always automation 😛

steel urchin
#

yeah i have a few fun ideas i am going to try for automation, and i'm on the hunt for good cheap physical switches for lighting/dimming... i'm not sure what the correct term is yet, but i'm hoping to find a remote or button wall plate (ie, looks like a switch but battery operated) that can also assist.

But then I want a nice UI for overview, and per-room control, along with a global scene control for most commonly used scenes

i'll keep looking, but always looking to hear "stay away from <xyz>!"

Hey me again

#

Gonna paste, please note I’m not too bothered about intergrating with HA right at this moment.

So I’ve been eying up the Tado system for a while and finally bought it once it’ll Black Friday deals dropped! I managed to buy Tado V3+ starter kit with wireless extension kit & the quad TRV pack for £270! Bargain!

However... I found a deal this morning I couldn’t pass up on. Nest WiFi kit (router and point), Nest Hub Max, Nest Thermostat E + Heat Link & a Nest Mini for £310. Yes... £310...

To clarify I just got into the Nest/Google Home Smarthome after years of being with Amazon.

I’ve already got 3 Nest Hubs, so the Nest Hub Max will go nicely in my kitchen!

This is where I’m questioning if I should go with the Nest E over Tado. How much of a difference does the TRVs make? I wouldn’t be surprised if Google release some TRVs in 2020. I quite like the look of the Nest E over the Tado! Also not having a subscription for geofencing like Tado has would be nice.

Would love some feedback!

Anyone have an Android TV? Just got a new tv, and it seems every app has it's own picture settings, but there is an option in the picture settings to apply to "all sources", but it doesn't work as expected. As I change apps, I can visually see the backlight change values. It's neat that you CAN have different video settings per app, but annoying to be forced to tweak for every app.

wet pilot

I have one but have not noticed that behavior

But then I have a Nvidia shield, not a TV with it built in

lol what is a 20GB share plan?

static schooner
#

but you're getting more! yeah, that was in the news a while ago, mainly just a price increase without advertising it as such

boreal pewter
#

🤷

static schooner
#

if that's the confusing part

steel urchin
#

man i have saved a shit ton of money this black friday

#

so far $8k off retail, which is about 50% off

clear ferry
#

I saved zero since I didn't buy anything 😛

boreal pewter
#

Yeah if you have everything you need it is just looking at things and realizing it has no real use 😛

clever mortar
#

I bought a new Kindle, to replace my 7 year old Paperwhite

#

Which was, quite literally, falling apart

clear ferry
#

I need to call Amazon

#

Because my kindle is registered to an email I no longer have

#

So I literally have to call them

#

I'm a nightmare to buy Christmas presents to since I've had my own income since I was nine, so I have always bought what I wanted when I felt like it 😂 so black Friday is usually nothing interesting, especially since the offers in Norway are pathetic

steel urchin
#

well we are buying everything new this year... couches, beds, tv's, cars, laptops, rugs, clothes, etc.... it's been needed for a while, and with the move we decided it'd be easier than moving stuff THEN trying to upgrade

boreal pewter
#

So you saved 8k on about a 100+k ?

steel urchin
#

on 16k

#

hence 50% savings

boreal pewter
#

So you only got half your list done 😄

steel urchin
#

oh my list is just beginning lol

#

lol i've literally spent over 650k in the last 3 weeks

#

and it's nowhere near done

#

of course most of that is the home itself

#

but no loan this time, so it was a big yikes

clear ferry
#

My house has doubled in value since I bought it, so I'm considering selling and moving tooThinkEyes

steel urchin
#

yeah man

#

that's what we're doing

smoky oxide
#

and here I havent found anything interesting this BF 😦

steel urchin
#

depending on where you live, that can be very fruitful

clear ferry
#

Yeah, I bought it for $230k and I could probably sell for $450 now

steel urchin
#

moving 15 minutes from our house and the cost drops 80% 🤣 screw these property taxes!

clear ferry
#

And I only have $130k left in loans

steel urchin
#

that could be a pretty good move if you're in a good place

#

keeping in mind closing costs are a bitch 😛

clear ferry
#

I might be changing roles in a few years though, so then I might move North and travel internationally instead, then I can pay 1/4 for a bigger house

#

We can sell without help, so zero closing cost

steel urchin
#

i did the travel thing for a bit.. it was cool, but i missed the wife and pups too much and had to give it up

clear ferry
#

Yeah, it would probably be 85% home and 15% travel

steel urchin
#

well you'd likely need to get a lawyer to draft up everything and c.y.a., that can cost about 3-4% of the sale

#

don't wanna sell and then someone comes and sues you for a lightbulb burning out

clear ferry
#

No, we don't need that w

#

We can do it ourselves in Norway

steel urchin
#

ah, different culture... in the US you gotta protect yourself because people love to try to screw everyone else over :S

clear ferry
#

And we usually don't sue eachother outside the us 😛

steel urchin
#

yeah lol

clear ferry
#

We use common sense and country laws

#

Much more civil

steel urchin
#

lol don't get me started please, it's hard enough living here as an open-minded individual

smoky oxide
#

and we dont want to see lawyers getting to rich on our bills

steel urchin
#

yussss, just scored some optiplex 9020's with i7's

#

for dirt cheap!

#

$300 for 2 of them lol

#

the processor is worth almost that alone!

boreal pewter
#

Guess what, the EU is trumpless

#

Just an idea to upgrade dirt to some gold

steel urchin
#

lol

#

i'm too chicken shit to leave the country

#

to live, that is...

hushed basalt
#

@clear ferry we have stamp duty on houses here

#

On purchases

#

About $20-25k for a $500k house. Down the drain

clear ferry
ocean mirage
#

wouldn't be so much an issue without the extreme commodification of housing

#

I think we paid 12k or so on our 460k house but I could be misremebering

tough igloo
#

Do you remember that one of the reasons for introducing the GST was to get rid of transfer taxes such as stamp duty 😂

#

replacing the previous federal wholesale sales tax system and designed to phase out a number of various State and Territory Government taxes, duties and levies such as banking taxes and stamp duty.

wet pilot
#

Lol it's like 3k for 300k here

#

Annually

ocean mirage
#

We have quarterly rates if you own property, many people would pay around that

tough igloo
#

Plus land tax in a lot of jurisdictions if you also rent the property out. That’s also supposed to reduce stamp duty!

hushed basalt
#

Ha

#

Like how we tell our wives we buy smart home gear so we can automate our lives for more free time

#

Six hours of debugging a week later...

wet pilot
#

Rofl

ocean mirage
#

Eh I got nothing against land tax

#

Jack that shit up until it’s not viable to be a landlord

hushed basalt
#

Yeah there should be no stamp duty

#

Just land tax

clear ferry
#

Yeah, we have land and house tax paid quarterly

#

But that includes water, trash and other stuff the state does

ocean mirage
#

our quarterly rates cover trash, not sure what else

#

water is a separate utility

hushed basalt
#

Council fees really

#

Rates go to the council

#

Stamp duty to the state

#

Everything else to the feds

ocean mirage
#

I guess its muddied here since we have no council, the ACT gov does territory and traditionally council duties

steel urchin
#

hah we're still talkin about taxes... shakes fist

hushed basalt
#

Unless you're rich

#

Then taxes are just something that you pay your accountant to make go away

steel urchin
#

damn, no drops on prices for stuff i was watching.. was hoping switches would go on sale for cyber monday

clear ferry
#

Mmm -11.5c

steel urchin
#

anyone have any input on honeywell vs ge enbrighten zwave dimmer switches?

Xiaomi?

clear ferry
#

No, that is a 433 sensor

tame swallow
#

Hey guys. Anyone have a Line Voltage heating system they use with HA? I just bought a new house that has 7+ thermostats with electric ceiling cable heat and I'm looking for options on centrally controlling them all. The only one I found so far is the Mysa.

clear ferry
#

ooof electric ceiling cable

#

I thought that died in the 70s

tame swallow
#

It's actually not too shabby. The house is super effecient, which it probably needs to be for this kind of heat. I'm more used to forced air induction than electric heat, so it's been an adjustment.

#

I will definitely miss my central air from my last house, though, haha

#

I could probably do with only 6. They claim 26% savings. Even if I could hit 20%, that's about $15/wk, which I would see my return of investment within a year.

tender plaza
#

I don't see how they can give you any savings at all

#

electric heater is just that, electric, very constant usage per heat produced

#

only savings can be done via logic to turn off heat when you don't need heat

#

so the 20% savings is saying, your lazy and need me

#

now a heatpump based water heater, that is, if you don't live somewhere that is cold most of the time, or if you have a tempature stable basement to put it in

clear ferry
#

Norway is probably 70-80% heat pumps, because we have well isolated houses that require extra heating in winter (up to -40c) and cooling in summer (up to 35c)

#

but there used to be a lot of different solutions in the past, electric heating is phased more and more out

#

and oil has been dead for 15 years

tender plaza
#

ya, here in the usa, atleast northeast, it was all oil/gas heat to boilers (or coal if people still had that)

#

but if they where cheap, it was electric instead

#

hard to use a heatpump if your avg temps are at or under -10c

clear ferry
#

no not really, just get a proper heatpump

#

we heat with heatpump only from +15 to -20

tender plaza
#

it is, you would get more heat from electric heaters

clear ferry
#

then we start supplementing with wood at -20

tender plaza
#

I used to design and build gas/oil/electric/heatpump systems at my last job

#

2 or 3 stage heating

#

normally at -10c heatpumps are close to 0 output, at about 5-10c we switch from heatpump to gas/oil due to cost savings tradeoff

clear ferry
#

we have no issues heating here

#

my 15 year old one struggles at lower temps though, but new one is fine

#

heat roughly 100m2 with that single pump to 22-23 when it is -20 outside

tender plaza
#

you sure that is purely, and not with the electric backup heaters it kicks in

clear ferry
#

there is no electric heating in mine as far as I know

tender plaza
#

odd, would be a european thing then

#

atleast here in the usa, they almost always have electric backup heat

clear ferry
#

never heard of

tender plaza
#

due to defrost cycle and if it gets too cold for the heatpump alone

#

use a 2heat thermostat (emerganc heat mode)

clear ferry
#

it just closes itself on defrost for a few minutes

#

then returns to normal operation

tender plaza
#

here when a unit kicks into defrost it powers the w wire, for the electric backup heat

#

so it's not blowing cold A/C air inside the house

#

and the thermostat if the temp drops 2c lower than setpoint, it also turns on the w wire for electric heat

#

where 1c below setpoint turns on the heatpump alone

tame swallow
#

@tender plaza, I don’t agree with the “you’re lazy” argument. Imagine needing to manually adjust 7 thermostats in your house every single time you leave for work, then manually adjusting them again when you come home, ever single day.

clear ferry
#

no idea, the current one I have is a Samsung Smart Home Exclusive 12

tender plaza
#

@tame swallow oh, I didn't say it was simple

#

but at that level, I wouldn't be adjusting all of them anyways, just the room I was in

#

currently I only adjust the bedroom, and very rarely any others

tame swallow
#

Having thermostats that put more control over the house could easily make for a huge improvement in savings, especially with having kids.

tender plaza
#

if you work outside the house, and have dynamic schedules yes

#

work at home, heh, alot more iffy

tame swallow
#

Yeah I’m not at home most of the day, so I could easily drop the temp in the house down. An all electric heated house makes for an expensive electric bill, lol

clear ferry
#

I do a variety of them, some weeks it's 90% home and 10% out, some weeks it is 90% out and 10% home

#

🤣

tender plaza
#

my issue has always been the wife

#

she refuses to adjust it

#

all the smart things are being designed to turn stuff off as she leaves

#

no need for the a/c to be running at 68f when she isn't here

clear ferry
#

I should do some automations with the upstairs AC

tender plaza
#

now, she does bitch and turns off all lights though, and tells the kids they are burning electricity with their light

clear ferry
#

but the wife studies from home, so she is usually upstairs if I'm not there

tender plaza
#

the lights that if left on all month is <$2

tame swallow
#

Exactly my issue, wife and 2 kids that leave the whole house on. Setup presence detection and let the house shut itself off when it doesn't see anyone at home.

tender plaza
#

my upstairs I just leave off, perm

#

I'll automate the upstairs, just so someone doesn't leave it on, but it's the guest suite

tame swallow
#

I wish there were more options for line voltage thermostats, though. The Mysa looks nice, but being the only player in the market makes me nervous.

#

The only other one I found that compares is the Maestro: https://www.stelpro.com/en-US/maestro

tender plaza
#

for an all in one solution

#

half the time here, it's a linevoltage relay, and controlled by hmm, been a long time

tame swallow
#

I have a 2nd Gen Nest Thermostat that I found ways to hook it up with a relay, but I'd rather have something built for 120V natively.
