Stick to your racks
We're trying to make the world a better place, one selfie app at a time
You're just converting electricity into heat and photons
And making lol pictures with fiber cables
What do you think is a fair amount of notice to give for leaving a job
And what the contract say, if you have one
If those do not apply, a single ๐ should be enough
people leave their jobs ? ๐ค
๐คฃ
I don't have to give any notice
But I do want to potentially keep the freelancing door to them open
More money for less work doing only the stuff I want to do :D
Australian labour laws are pretty non existant without a union established industrial award
common courtesy, at least in the US, is two weeks
but yeah, there is no loyalty anymore so do whatever you want lol
last time i gave a two-week notice, they shitcanned me four days later
nice, got randomization in my halloween lights too
iM sO rAnDoM!!!
can't really go wrong with 2 weeks
its the "standard" in the US but in most states there's nothing stoping either party from walking with no notice
I think i have 3 months
3 months?
Yup
oh they have to give you 3 month notice?
Correct
yeah, other countries have laws that force employers to not be terrible
lol
Must be nice
and better is the competions rules for american companies, had a collegue go to a competing company, that meant our company had to pay him for 6 months and let him go the same day, and that company had to pay him for 6 months and he couldn't work there for 6 months because of competative information
Must be nice ๐
lol that's a weird one
storage manager for the country
they usually sit on info about products that are 1 year out
oh, and if I get sick, the state pays my employer so they can keep me paid
I don't have to be afraid to get sick ๐คฃ
i mean, we have sick days and short- and long-term disability lol
i guess it depends on your employer though
Not everyone though
and if you're hourly/salary
I can take 3 days, 4 times a year without a doctors notice
a lot of people misuse that
I mean I probably wouldn't, but there's nothing from stopping that from happening
thankfully i work at a company that is not absolutely terrible
yeah, I have had 5 sickdays in the last 12 years
but I have flexible hours, I work when I have something to do
and work a lot ooh
i have "unlimited time off" subject to management approval
took about 80h so far this year
but i also work from home so i don't take as much sick time
yeah, I took 180 hours off last year
we have unlimited sick days, but not unlimited PTO
I tend to do 50% of my hours as compensation time off, the rest is full paid
of course, if you abuse the "unlimited" sick days it would be obvious
but I only worked 250 hours overtime last year though
I have had closer to 500 most year
and 700 some years
What are people using to organize/display/etc their photos? Looking for something that's already containerized, preferably.
I vote to name 0.101.1 the "WKQX update"
i'm partial to WWDC
howto add windwos hdd/ssd status and temparture to homeassistant?
seems like a #330944238910963714 question
Had to do some last minute changes to my Halloween porch
The camera refused to change state when movement happened, so had to install a Xiaomi motion sensor quickly

Well there was a total of 15 kids on the door ๐

we're just about ass to ankles back here. maeby, do you want to hop on your cousin's lap there, please?
who'd like a banger in the mouth??
Squeal like a pig...
Things got real weird when I stepped out for a minute...
I did, don't think I got through the latest season
I thought you meant Mr Wendell n stuff
these icons look very serious!! ๐
how come we cant get something like this for the automation tab?
honestly would make my life much easier
when you successfully root your Fire tablets and flash them with LineageOS instead of the dumpster fire known as FireOS https://media.giphy.com/media/wAxlCmeX1ri1y/giphy.gif
I don't know the difference
But if it's anything like Prime video it's probably a steaming pile of garbage
There's no way I would pay for Amazon prime video, the only reason I have prime is for shipping
I get one because of the benefits of the other
Prime video reminds me of those stalls in the middle of the mall
That sell crappy movies
That's the sort of crap that's on there. At least in Australia
The Boys is literally the only prime original I've liked
Good Omens was fun
Agree to disagree
You're entitled to your own opinions, as long as they're the same as mine
StOp lIkiNg tHinGs I doNt LiKe
probably influenced my enjoyment
Good Omens just felt a little BBCish to me
Like doctor whoish sort of tone of production
having tennent probably didn't help that feeling for you
ant didn't render well with darkmode ๐
phoenix project sounds familiar
Hello all, I just purchased my first home and am fairly new to the home automation scene. The home came with A nest doorbell, thermostat and smoke/CO detector as well as a rachio sprinkler system. I just ordered my first raspberry pi and I want to know whether homebridge or Home Assistant would be the better route for me. I don't mind troubleshooting (I'm a software engineer by trade), but I do want to make this as seamless as possible. I also have a wife who is somewhat reluctantly supportive of my smart home endeavors, so I prefer a system that would cause the least amount of friction in terms of reliability. I realize this is a biased crowed being the HA discord, but nonetheless I would like to hear your thoughts. My main goal is to be able to control everything with siri and the home app.
nest currently isn't supported due to google breaking the api
ranchio is though
i'm not sure if google also broke the homekit integration
Yikes... That's really good to know. So sounds like a no go for either currently?
home assistant integrates with homekit, so you would potentially have better compatibility in general if you bring that in
say if you want to pick up hue or zwave or esp based things in the future
assuming you're married to ios
if you are open to using google assistant, i think that supports everything directly. ha could be used to do more complex automation
HA could also be used to expose local only smart devices to GA/Alexa/Homekit
probably not very helpful, but that's all i got
It was very informative. Thank you. I'm currently pretty sold into the homekit/ios ecosystem, but I think I need to do some more research for the sake of the benefits of being platform agnostic. Buying into zwave etc. sounds like a good a idea... I've heard some great things.
HA can be used to bridge the gap between zwave and homekit
i use it to connect up to google assistant and the wife is pretty happy with it so far
we're full android here though
HA lets you go further than that though. You can set up fairly complex automation so that things happen automagically
Right, right. Really bummed about that Google thing though... Not willing to shell out more money to replace all the nest products that came with the house. Google home doesn't sound like a bad idea though. My buddy who's a google engineer showed me how easy it was to throw up his baby cam on his chromecast equipped TV. I was in awe.
if you go with chromecasts, HA can tap in to those too to replicate that behavior with any camera that supports streaming
That's awesome. Well.. Sounds like I left with more questions that answers. But at least I do feel pointed in the right direction. Thank you and goodnight phnx!
haha welcome to the deep end. Good night and good luck!
@rustic lily Homeassistant is pretty elegant nowadays
I think hass.io is even easier
I find homeassistant is easier to get stuff working than a miss mosh of cloud services which may or may not work together
I didn't confuse them :p
Homeassistant is pretty elegant nowadays ... I think hass.io is even easier
๐ค
That makes it sound like they're different automation tools, not software and an install method for that software ๐
I think it's like saying
Kubernetes is pretty elegant nowadays, I think GKE is even easier.
Anyways, maybe it's a marketing issue :D
Mustang is a good car, Ford is better
I'd have said:
Kubernetes is pretty elegant nowadays, I think GKE is an easy way of using it.
Homeassistant is pretty elegant nowadays ... I think hass.io is an easy way of using it
installing it* (the way you use it is identical)
I'm 3 cups in now ๐๐ฅณ๐ฅ๐
If I get 3 cups in it likely means that the world is on fire
Feeling nitpicky today, Tinkerer?
Today? No
It's not limited to today
Every day? Yes ๐
There's too much confusion around Ha* as it is, perpetuating it doesn't help newcomers
Mind you, that's what happens when everything gets named the same ๐คท
I... don't know what to say to that... it's not quite ironic... ๐ค
At least one of the problems are disappearing with the deprecation of hassbian.
A bit, anyway, though it'll still be around for years to come I'm sure
There's still HassOS, though. Which doesn't really need to be named anyway.
I suppose it depends on how close it is to the underlying OS it's based on
Based on buildroot, since that contains mostly nothing, it's a big difference
It could just be called hass.io-supervisor or something and be hidden from the end user.
That is one of the containers
Just have two services
Homeassistant in machine code
And a fully managed service!
No in between
Compiled Binary and a SaaS. :d

So anyone use anything to manage their photos locally (i.e. no cloud)?
(I know I asked yesterday, but I'm thinking not everyone scrolls up ๐ )
Nah we just ignore you ๐
Jk, I don't do anything. Google Photos works well for me but I'd definitely consider a local option
i also don't take many photos to begin with
@mystic dagger nextcloud here
With a SMB mounted share , that gets rsynced to a second site
Going to get it backed up to Google too when I have time to integrate that

I definitely don't need it
that wasnt the question ๐
Hello everyone
i'm thinking about using my old laptop for Home Assistant or maybe i get the new Raspberry PI 4, the older ones were extremely slow and the SD card was a downside i think
Extremely is a bit, well, extreme, but not speedy would be true
I ran HA on a Pi3, using an SD card, for nearly three years
i also am using a 3 B+
the webpage loads quite well ?
Fine
quite well
But, really, if you're spending all the time in the UI, you're doing automation wrong
โ
The UI that gets the most use here is Google Assistant's UI - on phone or Home Hub
HA's interface I use purely for admin purposes
i will indeed test it on a newer raspberry i had the older raspberry B
i've developed my frontend to be used as a mobile app
Yeah, pre Pi3 sucks - and that's why the docs tell you not to ๐
but mainly HA is for automation for me
As it should be
@clever mortar i'm surprised that the pi 2 isn't listed as "not recommended"
it runs on a Pi 2 ๐
I mean, it's fine for testing
But, if you want to run in production on it, you're mad
that's what i mean
everything before the 2 says "not recommended for more than testing"
like a...pube?
revved up like a douche deuce, another runner in the night
Or if you stay in the todash
Perhaps you just walked through the thinny and will meet your twinner soon
seems like english, not parsing that though
But I for one has not forgotten the face of my father

English... is full of words that are just weird
also @wet pilot, i just had my first spontaneous home assistant restart for the first time in a year. and it's all because of you. YOU MADE ME UPDATE!
And then there's defenestration
i know that one
I see I am in a crowd that cannot parse richardbachmanish
i was happy on 0.95.4 dammit
@scenic radish psh
you threatened my purple name

get a UPS?
PEBCAK for sure
i'm not even home atx
@wet pilot probably should. like i said though, i can't figure out if it actually was an outage
sitting happy on 101.1 now ๐
Easy, check the uptime of the rest of your server farm
๐

@wet pilot oh, the WKQX update huh?

you do realize that to anyone who hasn't read the dark tower books or has forgotten them, you just sound crazy, right?
so i ordered another pack of wyze contact sensors... and they sent me two packs. contacted them, they told me thanks for the honesty but go ahead and keep them

So while looking at the FTTP plans I discovered getting it with a phoneline is very expenive becuse Line Rental is expensive, but i have found out that a lot of home voip providers are cheap, But reviews of them are far and few between. Anyone in the UK have any experince with them? and have you found one you like?
I've used SIPGate on and off over the years, no issues with them
@clever mortar they looks quite good, and Luckaly have number porting
They provide some inbound numbers I use - we've moved enough that it's handy to have "local" numbers for friends to call
My family would need to keep our current number as it is listed in out churches phone book and a lot of the older members of the church call it so it would be peferable to keep it
Also means that when you're away, you can have your mobile manage the number too
yeah
thats the main reason i want it, The ISP(Zen) i want to move to also provides a fritz box that will also enable us to continue using our dect phone with a voip provider
probably becuse we are both talking about zen
Is it very broken
On my box it caused it to fall over eventually, out of RAM
Im tempted to not even use the box as a router, just use it as a VoIP bridge, as i allready have a pretty competent router
I've been very happy with Zen though, proper smart techs when you run into issues
Ive read on a pfsense fourm when i was googling if you could have both ipv6 and ipv4 that they are quite good too
Yeah, they've been IPv6 capable for a while now, and IPv6 + IPv4 by default for at least 3 years
Probably 4+
I run dual stack on my home network - I can reach HA over IPv6 ๐
Had a Fritzbox for a while, but replaced it with a Draytek.
Native dual stack from the ISP which is handy.
The Fritzbox wifi was, em, shit!
Yeah, I've found it to be underwhelming
I've an old AP that's still in use, until I make my mind up about whether I go Microtik or Unifi
That should happen somewhere around 2050 or so
Ill probably use the OpenWRT running router i currently have and just have the fritzbox for voip dect stuff
i can't access my setup remotely at work because my workplace blocks dynamic dns providers ๐ฆ
gogo ip
So, buy your own domain, they're cheap ๐
or that
was thinking of doing exactly that
i took the nabu casa approach and made my duckdns domain a random string of characters lol
and used a high port number
security by obscurity
It works
I've had my access on a random port from the start, and I've had less than a dozen probes over the last 3 years
that's good to hear
it honestly baffles me why people don't use high ports more often
it adds no difficulty to the setup
Because many folks have HTTPS == 443 stuck in their brains
And don't get that the computer doesn't care
yeah that's true
sipgates tarrifs are good
For much fun, run an OpenVPN server on the same port, doing pass through ๐
interesting
Huh, sipgate is a german company
9โฃ9โฃ9โฃ
1โฃ 1โฃ 2โฃ
Huh, arround since 2004, they look pretty firm then
@clever mortar do you pay for incoming calls?
No, they get the usual termination costs from the calling company
ah ok
Im tempted to signup now to try it out and port the number when we finally move isp, they look quite good
they block international calls by default. YES.
@scenic radish Was visiting a company where they were doing the same block. Their security person who called in to unblock the url I wanted was very annoyed when I ahad already got around it using DoH....
๐ฌ ยฃ30 porting fee
@strange vapor lol i love it
@scenic radish He REALLY didn't as there was some severe company politics happening over in the introduction of those device, Palo Alto I think, and having a random person off trivially bypass it in front of 50 or so of their engineers wasn't going to help ๐
I bet he didn't ๐

@Tediore I dont know much about UPS but I know AIMS sells rack-mount lithium iron phosphate batteries and inverters. I dont know how code compliant it is, but you could store a few kwh of batteries without it being a huge deal I think...
Just got a phone call for one of my businesses that the alarm was going off. Looked at the cameras and its the freaking cops breaking in looking for someone
Usually they just ring me I deal with them every day. Will be an interesting conversation later this evening.
If any of you guys homelab, let me know. Got a pretty neat server I found Iโm trying to help promote. Not sure if Iโm allowed to post in here so DM me for the link.
@static plinth thanks for the tip, I'll take a look
@rapid musk you should be ok as long as it's not spam/self-promotion
it worked
Thank you
tediore what I'm thinking about with a rack-mounted inverter is hours of backup rather than minutes, Also kind of interesting to thing about distributing batteries through the house rather than having them all in one place
Yeah that's an interesting concept for sure
Yeah why have the fire risk in just one location? ๐
Good moaning
It's 1:30pm here but I just got up so it's morning.
Lol yikes
Right. Everything is ready for the world cup match on the 3m screen tonight. Lamb backstraps marinating, BBQ kind of clean, beer on ice. Now who's tradesman's entrance do I insert this pitchfork in over the utter shambles called scenes in 0.101?
"kind of clean" lol
You don't want to remove all the flavour.
u rite
Also I haven't used scenes so I unfortunately can't rel8
Roll back?
That's what I've done at least. But I'm running a Hassio install, not sure how you installed HASS
he didn't upgrade yet
as far as i can tell, either the change wasn't intended and this is a bug, or it is a bug that it ever worked that way
Ohhhhhhh gotcha
It looks intended to me. Read the additional information here: https://github.com/home-assistant/home-assistant/pull/27182
ah
Seems like they want to make it match the available state attributes
Which I can understand I suppose but that's a pretty substantial change
so reading the PR and the related closed issue, looks like you're stuck then
so colorname you could probably fix by putting in the hs/rgb/xy colors directly
color temp seems like a miss though
unless that maps to one of the color things too
I think I can use mireds instead of kelvin as that appears in the light attributes
Yeah I can. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mired Just making a conversion spreadsheet for my temps now.
that might be what the platform does in the background anyway
I suspect so.
Ok I'll put my pitchfork away for now. Geez there's a lot to change though.
i thinki understand the decision. more warning would have been nice though
that was completely missed. The PR wasn't tagged breaking until after because it wasn't caught

So I enabled remote access again with duckdns, etc. I could have sworn to cast local audio I could just change http://my-ip to https://my-ip in the URL for the media files, but that doesn't work...I have to use the base URL. Am I crazy or has it always been this way?
To clarify, before enabling remote access, I was able to cast local media to my Google Homes using http://my-ip/dir-to-mp3

Hey there, does it sound like a bad idea to plan a full zwave lighting without physical switches?
Without switches of any sort of probably a bad idea as far as UX, yeah
And possibly WAF
@prime copper I prefer as much automation as possible, but us humans are unpredictable arseholes, so switch backup is handy.
@strange vapor Sound like a good idea to prepare for it
Even more if the place is rented
Plus if your server is down for whatever reason your lights aren't useless
You could still have standalone zwave remote
Right
But I'll go the retardproof way I guess
that s a bit complicated :p
You can have switches wired to your Z-Wave modules, so that local and remote control works
That's how it's normally done
The tediore proof way!
@clever mortar So the switch is only to the zwave module, is there a bypass?
Not in that setup
If the switches breaks there is no light
:p
Hey guys, mabye a stupid question. How hard would it be to find a pet feeder I can implement in home assistant or build one my self that I can implement
@clever mortar How about a channel with channels?
#channels, placed between #rules & #the-water-cooler
A read only channel, with a list of other channels (including a description (topic)) ?

pretty good idea
That doesn't sound to bad of an idea
#diy-archived could help you build one @abstract hinge - not sure how many smart ones exist
Based on my experience with dumb ones, dogs can take them apart to get the food ๐
Thank God I only have a kitty that is becoming fat
All I just have to fight with now is the tuya stuff not using an esp
Chonkerino
Do I have to pay cat tax?
Yea I was thinking the same
you absolutely have to pay the cat tax
Say that five times in a row
Instructables is crawling with automated pet feeders.
What channel do I need to post it the cat tax
Just strap an esp onto any one of them, and call it a day
Anything not-Home Assistant related is on topic here - as long as it's not banned in the channel topic ๐
that's a mighty fine kitty you've got there
The cat in it's natural state - sleeping
I also have a pic of her waiting for me to get home
Have to search for it tho
When she wasn't a fat chonker
And yes I was planning on getting a pet feeder and dropping a esp8266 or esp32 in it
Kawaii

Pfff, why did tuya have to be a bitch and not use esp's but some pin compatable shit running different stuff
Ffs, found it back they are using RTL chips that are pin compatable with esp-12
Wooop
Today I learned the hard way that you can't simply change the standard "80" host of the let's encrypt plugin to whatever port you want to run the HTTP challenge through whatever port you want
Just clean up all my .yaml files it was so eazy with Frank new vs code add-on ๐
Cleaning? What is that? ๐

Mine only says mamamamamamama and da
Mine is saying dadadadada
But shes been walking for over a month
Free walking?
Born the 18th of October, so 12.5 months? Started at 11ish
EPOCH TIME ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU?
Mine talked more at 9 months than now ๐
Yeah, she walked with furniture at that age too, but it took some time to freewalk
Starting kindergarten tomorrow

She knows how to press my Xiaomi switches
Wow we don't start kindergarten that early
I remember going to kindergarten. That's how late it is
Unless you mean you're starting kindergarten tomorrow
In that case I think you might be a lost cause
We usually start around one year, because maternity leave is roughly one year, but since my wife got no maternity leave and I got all of it we have held it off a little ๐
My daughter presses a Xiaomi button every morning to wake up the house ๐
We get 40 or 50 weeks leave from the state
But with new rules at work I will actually get 26 weeks extra from them if I get another kid
Lol just got a picture from my father, it appears to be snowing quite a bit
Where is your Unimog now
Pff, old school quattro 4 lyfe
Thatsalotofsnow
Where did my car go
I've been in the US when they got about 2 meters of snow - that was enough fun
Nice, we had an idiot in a Tesla last night who crashed into two barriers because he was driving on auto pilot and probably wanking off
@clever mortar did it look like this there too? https://www.google.com/search?q=tromsรธ+1997&safe=off&client=ms-android-huawei-rev1&prmd=imsvn&sxsrf=ACYBGNRcMYJK7CPuCDdKCxduPoykydW7Vw:1572771209307&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjrlvmp1c3lAhXiy6YKHaCDDjMQ_AUoAXoECA8QAQ&biw=360&bih=664#imgrc=4Wzv11wCO4doPM ๐
Damn that's a ugly url
๐คฃ
Not as bad as that, but literally we couldn't find the car in the car park that morning
It was just a field of snow, with bumps where the cars had been
In the UK we rarely get snow like that. Half a meter is the end of the world, and if you're in the South of England 5 snow flakes is a disaster ๐
imagine 5 โ in here at the same time, that would also be a disaster
Anyone with Unifi network(usg,...) HA on Nginx and Nextcloud? If UPNP is enabled it block Nginx, if UPNP disabled, nextcloud do not work? This was working before Unifi, also Nas OMV was working-this is no go on Unifi now, wont even start. Why is so much problems on Unifi?
Nextcloud works fine without upnp on proper networks ๐
Tell me more, please! Unifi should be proper network for 1k? But i have doubts:) It is NextcloudPI wich need UPNP
1: Disable UPNP.
2: Fix your traffic (routes and ports)
3: Be happy
๐
Routes? Ports are fixed, opened for nginx, also try to open for nextcloud
If your nginx is in front of the nextcloud you shouldn't need to open anything
I have 80 and 443 pointed toward my frontend Apache server, and 15 webservers behind that
I think I have a total of 7 firewall rules if memory serves right, everything else is drop and no upnp
yeah i know, it works on other networks, only Unifi make problems. If is UPNP disabled, Nexcloud work only at home, If UPNP enabled, then nextcoud works, but can only acces HA and samba at home
There are also firewall routes for nginx, should I add manula something?
๐คท don't use nginx and double firewall rules ๐คข
Traefik
delete all firewall routes? I was all working on 2 different router before! only this USG is messing, hate this Unifi
return it then
Pfsense 4 lyfe โค
Been using it for 15 years except for last year I tried untangle, but I came back home
I am a Noob not an expert! But this starter things, should be working anywhere!
๐คท
I usually hear more problems than working things when users come here with unifi questions
Neighbor has it, uneblivable how much problems has he now. And this should be some profesional networking? And fro this price, over 1k E it is a joke
I haven't paid a $ for my network equipment the last 20 years, except the Linksys mesh WiFi I bought last year ๐
I have also router from ISP and bought only wifi mesh from tp-link, two AP for 80e
You should probably contact Unifi support.
If you dind't know, this is not it
I have a nice Unifi setup with multiple ESSIDs and VLANs which just works... Beginning to wonder if I've just been lucky!
I used to have a Cisco network from 2004-2008, then I moved over to procurve, and from 2013 and onward I've run a hybrid procurve, comware,Cisco network, and pfsense through all iterations ๐คท
Combined lab and production
As all enterprise networks usually end up being
Keep it relatively simple, and they're usually fairly OK. As soon as you start using the "enterprise" features which were mostly demanded by Sales people as extra line items, good luck!!
Are there any pi size boards with dual 1G network I can use as a pfsense box?
Looked at those, would be cheaper to build something
But I run it on a AliExpress computer now, paid 1000nok or something
With my luck, import tax on that would be 5K...

I paid no tax, they marked it as value $25 ๐
I usually tell them to do put a low price on it
I have the 4gb60g edition
I should look for a triple display Ali machine on 11.11 for my desktop
Pro tip, don't use the SSD you get from AliExpress!! Have bought two similar products over the last few years, and while the main board is generally good, the SSDs have failed on both!
@strange vapor no failure after almost a year here, even run squid on it
@clear ferry Started throwing smart errors after a few months and then failed in both cases, maybe just got a bad batch.
Handily, I monitor for Smart errors, so had spares on hand.
A smart error, should be smart enough to fix itself
Using Prometheus with Node Exporter to monitor the smart stuff on my stuff. As soon as smart errors start appearing, I get an alert.
Monitors a lot more than SmartD ๐

I'm pretty sure I could buy a Dell optiplex to use for pfsense
@hushed basalt anything will do
I ran it on a dual pentium pro back in the day
I grabbed it from a local hospital, the sticker said the hostname was Viagra
When I last ran it, it wasn't even dual core
I think I eventually upgraded it to a Pentium, from a 486...
I ran it on a amd486 for a period
It's very low resource requirement, can't imagine it changed that much over the years
I actually installed the CPU the wrong way, and it said zzzzz and I flipped it back and it worked
AMD is a always wonky

hello people! is anyone here running a conbee II zigbee module for his/her zigbee devices ?
๐ okay - reason I asked for it here is because I don't have specific technical questions , it was more of a "do you like it or not" - "does it do your job or not" kinda thing!
That's exactly the kind of question to ask there ๐
#zigbee-archived but I'm fine with it using it with Deconz
Ok sure thanks both! ๐
Aes-ni requirement changes things though
My current router is like a $15-$30 7 year old asus with tomato flashed on it
Holds up surprisingly well. But obviously any sort of DPI and advanced traffic management is out of the question
If the Dell 9020/7020 had either a second NIC or a pcie slot it would have been perfect
It's quite a jump to the SFF in terms of size
well, my opensuse tumbleweed upgrade went smooth, but my br0 adapter vanished ๐คฃ
I have had multiple openvpn site to site vpns with a lot of traffic, and road warrior configs too, never had any need for aes-ni and I'm pretty confident you won't miss it either @hushed basalt ๐คท
woot, I actually thought I had a J1900 in my mini itx, but I actually have a J4105
woohoo, just bought some zigbee replacement wall switches and some xiaomi buttons
now it feels real, instead of me just monitoring stuff ๐
@light trout I really like my https://pcengines.ch/apu2c4.htm which has three 1G, 4GB ECC RAM and does AES-NI

what is the price @hasty parcel ?
not bad pricing

What is better option led strip rgbww or rgb cct?
Only difference that I could notice is that rgbcct merged 3 lights into one diode?
I thought those are the same hardware-wise
RGB-WW is RGB with Warm White
RGB-CCT is RGB with two whites - cold and warm - so you can tune the temperature
CCT all the way

Anyone know of any 433mhz PIR sensors that send a low battery warning or a battery status?
Never heard of, that said I've heard of ZigBee users reporting multiple years battery life, I have almost a year on my office motion sensor already
uugh. A voltage sensor and a status message every hour would be nice.
why would you want to know the battery level every hour?
I'm not entirely sure what's your project, but I heavily recommend the $6 Wyze Motion Sensors. They are dirt cheap, work directly with hass, and use RF (so VERY long battery life)
If the battery level goes below 30% the bus explodes
just busted my wife using the space heater thanks to hass energy monitor. heh. it was using almost 1.5 kwh. wow
GOTTEM
anyone play with heat index for their inside temperatures ?
someone was working with that in #330944238910963714 over the past few days
the venerable @last plaza gave him a jinja2 macro to calc it based on a temp and humidity input
yea? do you know if they got any use out of it? I feel like I tried it once and it was a bust.
seems to do what he wanted
HI = (
c1
+ c2 * T
+ c3 * R
+ c4 * T * R
+ c5 * T * T
+ c6 * R * R
+ c7 * T * T * R
+ c8 * T * R * R
+ c9 * T * T * R * R
)
i think i'm confusing things though
that what I got off wikipedia. gives me bizzare results.
to calculate heat index
oh...
c1 = -43.379
c2 = 2.04901523
c3 = 10.14333127
c4 = -0.22475541
c5 = -6.83783e-3 # -6.83783*10^-3
c6 = -5.481717e-2
c7 = 1.22874e-3
c8 = 8.5282e-4
c9 = -1.99e-6
@wet pilot do you notice temps feel different in winter / summer?
like 67 in the summer is warmer than 67 in the winter.
humidity can definitely play in to that
its freakin annoying.
Maybe I need a better quality humidity sensor in my house. I have cheapo xiaomi
and its generally lower in the winter
...and i have a good sensor in the bathroom but people shower in there so its not accurate. heh
My latest amazing automation just got more amazing.
the first iteration was to set a dynamic wakeup alarm based on the time i went to bed..
now it also changes the thermostat settings based on when i'm going to wake up.
best automation of 2019.
noice
Most automations aren't very useful... but this one is a winner.
i'm still partial to my fan automation
house fan?
or is this a fan that vapes 420 and auto deploys it?
That would be funny. put a massive bong in your hvac return.
you would have the best party ever
lol ceiling fans that turn on / off based on presence and set their speeds based on temp
oh yea. that sounds very handy.
...if only my house was big enough for ceiling fans ๐ฆ
lol doesn't need to be that bit
local room fans are kinda nice though
except when you're playing VR
Whats 9' in non freedom units
sounds like a joke
so you're saying UK and USA aren't free? thats messed up
opposite
non-freedom = not free. no?
right SI units aren't freedom units ๐
@wet pilot -2.5c and 80% humidity here now ๐
But no snow... You told me there was going to be snow....

Plasmacoils
Definitely HAARP.
Can anyone recommend a good remote desktop client to access a ubuntu desktop?
Teamviewer
ok. pretty easy to set up?
