so i looking for something what have SSD and good specs for today and the future
If you don't invest in the other parts (ram/cpu/motherboard) that is a waste of mony
thanks seems sweet
there's no way to connect a ssd to a pi?
i like server which picked @unreal orbit but its must be used for a good price
You can conect a SSD to a pi using the USB bus @orchid rose But I don't see any point of doing that
im connected msata ssd with ssd expansion board https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Raspberry-pi-X850-mSATA-SSD-disk-expansion-board-supports-1TB-USB-3-0/32882203690.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.27b0222enw6uQU&algo_pvid=97c7f83b-2729-4734-bed2-cc4417fd5bd2&algo_expid=97c7f83b-2729-4734-bed2-cc4417fd5bd2-18&btsid=35cdabe6-6a94-46ea-bbb9-a80c87de4222&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2,searchweb201603_52
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.com
maybe, but for the price of the smalest one you can find, you get 10 quality SD cards
ah, okay fair enough
Are you suggesting planning on SD cards failing?
Meh, ssds are overrated, I run 45 vms on spinning drives 😛
what about NanoPi M4 https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=234
But SSD in all of my workstations and laptops yes please
all of those higher priced pi's etc start getting way too expensive for me when you need to add the power adapter, storage, case etc as well while you can get a used NUC for a bit over 100€
in theory I could run hass on an old pc I have but the 100W idle power consumption is a bit much
100w idle doesn't even give a dent in my total house consumption 🤷
not all of us run super computers 24/7 in our houses 😉
Just yesterday I used 85kwh 🤷
if I plan to install it to someone, it should be new. Buy a NUC in your own home is a good idea, but for someone else to install, you need a standard low-cost solution.
how you calculate daily consumption, can you share?
Where I live you can check that on the the service providers site
Or you can go look at your meter
https://www.udoo.org/udoo-x86/ that seems interesting
I get it per hour in an app from my power company
I had 6.54kWh yesterday. Having 100W PC running at the same time would increase it fairly heavily 😃
ok, i have a sonoff pow to see real time consumption
Seems may has been between 75 and 115kwh per day 🤔
That board is almost $200... you could buy a new PC for that much
200 for the cheap one
February was 110 to 140 kWh per day
And it has no case, no power supply, and no storage
32GB EMMC STORAGE
You could buy two Chromebook for that price and run ha with redundancy
And still have the same specs
yes its not cheap
Overpriced and pretty useless🤷
@unreal orbit anything would be possible I guess in the Linux beta shell, it is just running Debian in a VM
I can try for you 😂
But I don't see why not
Depending on how it exposes the network though 🤷
that would be a cheap option if it works and is easy to set up
I'll try to get ha running on Itanium while I'm at it 😛
Not saying I would do it in prod, but that might make a good dev station
@unreal orbit Google says yes, I'll try on my Chromebook after putting the baby to sleep😉
Not 😴 with the 🐠 that is
anyone having problems with TTGO Camera with Mic esp32 board. Can,t get camera to work. I have set the pins for the mic vervsion but camera fails.
i have a question I am somewhat new to Homeio. I have it up and running but i dont know how to get this script into home io from GitHub
Homeio?
This is Home Assistant. There's an install method called Hass.io (see #330990055533576204) but no homeio
Welcome back @clever mortar 👋 😄
Thanks, I think 😛
Sadly it looks like nobody burned all this down in my absence... 🤷
Next time I'll leave thermite and matches 🤷 😉
That could get exciting 😄
lol yes. hassio
All components are built in to Home Assistant, no matter how you install it
You don't "get" any component in
(ok, there are a couple of exceptions, but those are image processing components)
so the link on github are image processes?
No
I guess long story short how do i connect my light switches and control them? I use to have it on IFTTT
GitHub is where the project is developed
And, from the fact that you found it in the dev branch, the answer is wait for it in a release
Once it's in a release, just follow the instructions in the component's documentation
Actually, looks like 0.85 had it 🤔
i think it has been released
I dont know what to do from here I've been on this site you linked to.
To enable Plum Lightpad support, add the following lines to your configuration.yaml file:
plum_lightpad:
username: YOUR_CLOUD_USERNAME
password: YOUR_CLOUD_PASSWORD
Well, then swing over to #330944238910963714 and we can help
But it's exactly what @unreal orbit just posted
Hah, homeio, the perfect wordmashup that makes no-one know what you are exactly talking about
What's worrying is what you get when you Google it...
Smart home automation simulation wtf
Then I shouldn't be surprised, they make farm and goat simulators, and People buy them
🤣
Evening all
I know farmers, they think that anybody who wants to play with a farm sim needs to try an actual farm 😉
I want to buy a python programmer simulator, so I can pretend to be @light trout for a day
try google, much cheaper 😉
I've seen his code... it being a sim would explain much 😛
Then again, I've seen my code... infinite monkeys explains more 🤷
Shit, you should see my code, it looks like fifteen toddlers shit all over a white nursery 😛
if it works it works 😉
That's my theory for coding
I never said it worked either 😞
Need a sarcastic string for a user error, got any sugestions?
1D10T is the traditional
PICNIC is another
B0110CK5 is good, if you know your slang
I can work with that, thanks 😄
Feel like a shameful dog, you've messed up by eating the salami again
I've never met a dog ashamed of eating things it shouldn't
Ashamed of being caught, yes 😛
Come to think of it, that line sounds like a badly translated Chinese error message
🤔
Like when I service the XP12000 array once
The note said dont head up, injury occur can
Damn Japanese people and their warnings
Yeah, I've read lots of oddly translated manuals
Though, the things I write are probably hard to translate, as I tend to use "relaxed" language to make them less boring 🤣
First time I wrote a user guide, the language was simple, but also slightly jokey
I got pulled to one side and read the riot act over "not being professional" 🤷
Yeah, that works 😄
Oddly enough, the feedback from the target audience on that version was rather good 😄
Ah, if it's boring, nobody reads it, or remembers it
where do i put this :::::
To enable Plum Lightpad support, add the following lines to your configuration.yaml file:
plum_lightpad:
username: YOUR_CLOUD_USERNAME
password: YOUR_CLOUD_PASSWORD
@lone vale Please, read the channel topics and ask that in #330944238910963714
As you've been told already before now 😉
I actually enjoy the belter language they have in The Expanse, it's simple and effective
Simple is good, but as a species we don't seem to actually like simple language
At least, that's the only way I can explain English...
Their, they're, there... all sound exactly the same, and mean totally different things
I don't suppose anybody is having problems with iCloud Component, are they?
That'd be a thing for #330944238910963714 😉
This channel being For chat around things that aren't Home Assistant related...
I'm learning Japanese atm, and its... actually quite simple gramatically, easier than most languages imo
Not like Thai where if say a word that goes UP at the end it mean pig, but if you go DOWN at the end it means... something different 🤷
Ah, tonal languages I think they're called?
yes, I only know of Thai and Mandarin that are like that
I remember a day reading up on such things, because there was a book about it to hand (and nothing else to do)
Then you have Finnish, where if the preceding verb was bent to the past, THE NOUN IS NOW FEMALE
or some other strange shit 😄
eeeh, I've upgraded 32 ESXi hosts from 6.0 to 6.7, upgraded firmware of all nodes, upgraded vcenter and kept history, and not a single of the 1400VMs were impacted, score 🎉
Nice
The vcenter bit is the bit that usually fails hard because of some component or some database entry that is gone to shite
Bare metal has issues, but that's not one of them 😉
And you are doing that on a Friday? You must hate life
yeah, the vCSA is very good, the windows vC is a fucking mess
@light trout I'm upgrading some of norways biggest betting systems on sunday, what can go wrong ? 🤷
I'll take a bet on that 😉
I've only taken down an airline booking system once in 12 years 🤣
Give the odds for it and I'll make a bet 😜
@clever mortar does my odds increase or decrease if I say it's running on Itanium hardware with OpenVMS software ?
Still sounds like plug 'n' pray 😉
I took down a development company once, but it was 11oclock so they just asked if it was back up until after lunch
I nodded
And it was 🤣
I've taken down a few things in my time, and once or twice it was even deliberately 😄
I would never gasp
My favourite was doing the cluster failover test, where I got approval to just cut the power to the primary node
As I argued at the time, that would happen for real at some point, so we may as well check it works
haha
It worked, and that exact situation hit a year later when some idiot cut the power
To the whole DC
Reminds me of these mock videos the company made years ago, they still make me cringe and chuckle at the same time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMCHpUtJnEI
Oh, I remember watching those 😄
Love that I now get commercials on youtube that are as badly worded as the "There are single moms in your area waiting to get..." but for technology stuff 🤔
"There are single prosessing units in your area waiting to get.."?
Suuuuuuuuuuure 🤣
If only there were single processing units in my area, or megabytes of ram that were willing to...
that would be something
I could go for a couble of megabytes now 😛
I agree, I'm leaking pages already, need to refill with more megabytes
Speaking of megabytes
One of many wonderful commercials John Cleese did for Compaq Computer Corporation in the mid to late '80s. A very rare find and a treasure for any John Clees...
Now, I’m no fish balistiologist (at least not since th... anyway), but that trajectory looked odd...
Yup 🤣
@light trout why don't you ever "play" Visual Studio Code like Frenck ? 🤣
Or any other IDE
@clear ferry Playing pico 😦
What I do is not playing, it's work 😉
I'm not an "alcoholic" I'm a "hard working coder" 🤣
something like that 😂
Possibly off topic. Is there a tool that I can use to send a message that will redirect that message to the recipient's preferred method of communication. For example, if I send an e-mail, I want recipient A to get the message via Slack, recipient B to receive a text, recipient C some other form...etc.?
How would it know?
The only way to have that happen would be to build a broker, and have people register their preferred method with that broker
Do you mean doing that in HA? I can picture a way with input_text and template automations
But it's not pretty
"have people register their preferred method with that broker" is the step in that plan that will fail
people generally don't care
I like him(her?)!
I say that sometimes. Does that mean we're friends?
Works for me 😄
Slipknot had it right all along anyway https://open.spotify.com/track/0Y2i84QWPFiFHQfEQDgHya
there is a xkcd for EVERYTHING
is HA there?
Of course https://xkcd.com/1319/
Hey, I found tinkerer https://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/listening.png
how my wife sees my work on HA
Nice, I've gotten three offers from Indian recruiters on LinkedIn lately, the problem is I know those companies pay atleast 50% of what I make today and they see every employee as expendable please contact me for more info , no thank you
but the indian outsourcing companies are blooming pretty hard in Norway
They are? 😱
@light trout , yes, you're right. People generally don't care, so they don't make the choice. The "client's" expectation is that you'll develop a relationship with them such that you'll know and care more about them than they care about you. It's a customer service issue at a personal level. If I really want to make an impression, I take the time and put in the effort to make sure I know how you prefer to receive messages. Then, I utilize a tool (a broker, such as you've mentioned) to transmit the messages on my preferred sending platform to their preferred receiving platform. I as the sender would take responsibility for making sure the system is sending to the right platform for each person, because, as you stated, they won't care enough to make the choice. They would prefer that I just simply know what they want to receive. (Same problem Facebook has in developing the algorithm that's responsible for displaying content on our walls.)
@light trout TATA just got a big deal, and Cognizant and HCL have been big for years
Wipro are pretty big too
There are atleast a dozen more of them, but the names elude me 🤔
I see so you will actually do the job to utilize a tool like that, I have not heard of anything for the sender to use, but there are muliple platforms for the reciever to use, where they get all their chats in one client.
If it where me I would probably create some thing (in python 😄 ) that would act as a broker, store name + targets in a json file.
There are allready python libs for almost any communication channel out there already (includung SMS and email for the old legacy users).
@light trout It would be like when website asks you how you preferred to be contacted. I'm looking at Zapier and Ifttt but I think you're right in that I may have to learn how to script it myself. sigh and I'm too busy working on my HASwitchplate to do that today ;).
so @unreal orbit I'm currently running HA on my Chromebook 🤣
but it uses NAT from host -> LXC
Just followed the standard VENV install, and it's running
and I reach it from the chrombook itself via http://100.115.92.200:8123
which is the internal NATed address
lets see if I can change it away from NATing and use DHCP passthrough..
Anybody has used solar pannels as a rain sensor?
apparantly the linux in chromeos doesn't have the kernel modules for bridging @unreal orbit but if you only need it for local testing you can spin up as many containers as you want from the console with HASS
im using the oracle virtural machine, and installed the samba add in. I've located the configuration.yaml
do i just ass this in the file
where do i add this
Example configuration.yaml entry

@clear ferry the guy who writes our cash up system owns his own software development company and he was saying he has like 5 staff in NZ to maintain servers and deal with customers but when ever he has a new job he out sources the whole thing and pays less that 25% of what it would cost him here, says he has one 16 year old who works really fast and costs less than the rest.
Yeah exactly @quartz ether but the price shouldn't always be the factor, we have entire government sectors that are outsourced 🤷 some of them are moving back though after discovering that letting someone halfway around the world have access to control fuel pumps to tankers was a poor idea 🤷
Lol... Thats where common sense should come into play...
Does it ever win over price?
I've seen entire it departments of 30+ people vanish and be replaced by 4 guys who don't know what they are doing, who still have to call me to do the upgrades, but lingers over my shoulder for the entire job 🤷
Conservative governments never care about common sense
Their actions are usually a mix of cronyism, corruption, short sightedness and general repulsion for common people
I've never seen an example of privatisation that actually works
But they know it doesn't work anyways. But their mates get rich buying companies for pennies on the dollar the exploiting their assets as much as possible
Add in some government regulated monopoly on top of that to keep that company running no matter what, and you've got a perfect deal (for them)
I can't sleep :(
switched from Windows to CoreElec yesterday for my Kodi setup, but it seems like I'll lose equalizer by doing this... sad..
sleep is overrated anyway
@valid halo, go to sleep! 😋
@orchid rose Plex 4 lyfe 😘
Kodi is already too limiting for my preferences so I doubt Plex would be for me
Control freak 😜
A lot of people here are control freaks...
once you're used to some level of features it's really hard to let go of them
btw if someone here understands electronics... I have this small pre-amplifier that has input voltage of 9V to 20V. Does that effect the output voltage as well or how do these work?
Maybe? Hard to know without seeing the circuit 🤷
On any linux server you access do the folowing:
1: sudo visudo
2: add Defaults insults to the bottom of the file.
3: save
[sudo] password for debian:
You can't get the wood, you know.
[sudo] password for debian:
No soap, honkie-lips.
[sudo] password for debian:
It can only be attributed to human error.
I hate vi so far - always have first to google the usage 🙈
vi is user friendly... it's just really picky about who it's friends with 😛
As a long term user of vi, I love it, but it's far from easy to get used to. The printed "cheat sheets" can be very handy
http://www.viemu.com/vi-vim-cheat-sheet.gif
Excue me? wtf
I've seen more approachable ones
First result from google
looks like your goole is better 🤣
Some friends are... complicated i guess 😄
just created my first .desktop file 😂
Wait until you discover the power of sed that's hidden inside vi 😉
My wife got such a deam thing - I hope I ll be able to uunlook the bootloader
aaaahhh fufufuf
pressing cmd +c gets deam many At_EOF
I even install bash and nano on HP-UX when I can 😂 damn vi
Whelp
I'm back on Windows on my desktop
I must say it's refreshing to have working Nvidia drivers
And not having to sign my own kernels
Drivers schwimers 🤷
I'd be happy to pay twice normal price for win10 without all the adware and 'consumer experience'
Well Manjaro ftw - No problem with my 1080ti
Only problems with Anti cheat software
that feeling when you spend 4h on new hardware integration and finally get everything to work ... 😄
@hearty depot its the edge cases that kill you with nvidia
Although I'd hardly call daisy chaining display port edge cases. But apparently it is
"If you're using Nvidia you're doing it wrong"
"Just don't use that {broken function}"
Hehe
Linux is a bit of a religion to some people
It's like questioning their bible
And I say this as someone who runs multiple linux servers and desktops. But I'm more than happy to call it out for it's flaws
Pros and cons to every tool
What are you guys using for remote access to Hass? After reading on the site I feel inclined to use the Caddy setup and purchase a domain. However, I'm still diving into this part so I'm open to any suggestions
Me, a VPN for most of it, and a reverse proxy (NGINX currently) along with SSL and my domain for webhooks - along with NabuCasa
So if you use a VPN, do you have to login often from remote devices?
I use always on with openvpn on my mobile, but that is for accessing most of my lab on the go 🤷
I don't really remotely access HA much. Heck, I don't really use the UI much at all
The whole point for me is automation - if I'm pratting about with a UI, that's not automation...
Well, I don't know what your home is like but I can automate til kingdom come but I'll still need a UI with four kids and cousins over often
And for the cameras, etc. Anyway, just wanting to see what others are using and how they've set it up
UI is not bad but the goal should be completly automated
- Automate
- Automate
... - Automate
- Voice control
...
eventually ... UI
Yes! My proof of concept worked
My PIR motion sensor on the lowest sensitivity detects me walking upto my front door
now to set up Node-Red to go "snap-snap-snap"
and then send that to MQTT Camera 1,2,3
I'd love to set up a "Motion Detection photo gallery"
but I have no idea
I set it up face sideways towards the sidewalk as people tell me they work best sideways
i have so much trouble getting these passive PIR sensors to work with ESPHome board... :/
@valid halo What PIR sensor are you using?
See #551843558676758569 for help with it 😉
ha ha, i will @clever mortar , just not today 😄 wasted a whole day on HA
bte: I just updated my GitHub, have a look: https://github.com/solidcake420/home_assistant
I have it hooked in with Header wires and it's a couple inches away from the ESP chip itself. As I've heard the WeeFee antenna can send it on the fritz
This keypad randomizes the numbers every time so someone doesn't figure out the password from your hand movements - https://i.redd.it/b2e47h3l7e031.jpg
Nice
Yeah, I've worked with those before, they're pretty sweet
Of course, it assumes nobody leaves the lock code at the factory default setting...
My mom found it neat when I told her about it
I feel like if someone was watching me put it in they would just see the code cause I would be saying "4... wheres the 4, ahh there it is, 2 now where is the 2"
I'm trying out Blue Iris 😄
so far it's pretty dope
It's taking up 23% of my I5 and 200Mb of RAM for one camera.
I can see why MotioneyeOS runs so meh on a Pi
especially when I'm running hass too
I don't think I'll buy it just yet but it seems pretty good for my windows PC life
you can tweak it to be less ...direst to disk is one option to lower cpu use
lower framerates etc etc
I can't use Direct to Disk on the Demo
It doens't help that my mum put a flag up for memorial day
so it waving around triggers recordings
@valid halo I got one of them as well on ESP8826 board. Spend a lot of time on adjusting the sensitivity of that thing so it actually works well... 😃
Damn, my HA Cloud is still dead, a bit disappointed :/
@paper orchid have you checked with the guys in #cloud-archived ? 🤷
I see now you have 😂
@clear ferry yep, I also created a support ticket at this point, as it's not working since yesterday...
it's just that I can set up DuckDNS + SSL in couple of minutes, if that's required 😄
I've never seen my Nabu casa disconnected actually 🤔
i only get HA Cloud to support developers
Yeah me too, I use it maybe once per month just to test stuff
and if you dont care about security, use Serveo reverse proxy 😄
I'll keep my firewall rules thank you 😛
Finished my new setup and I cut A LOT of things I was never using.
Can relate
👋
Ayyy

Is anyone using WiFi light bulbs in e12 and/or normal north anerican bulb fixture that are Tuya compatible, white (not colour) and have colour temperature adjustment?
Meh, going from the Audi A8L to the VW Golf MK4 was a downgrade, I should replace it before Christmas I guess 😂
No, I bought my wife a new car when the baby came, so I just appropriated her old car and sold the Audi 😂
It's a 102hk 1.6
No fun at all!
Yeah, quite a step back from an A8
The one up side of a Golf - spare parts of almost every generation are easy to get
I've a friend who used to have a rally tuned Mk1 and loved it
As she said, she got gallons to the mile, not miles to the gallon, but it was worth it for the smiles
Aye, I love the MK2 design
Had a friend with the Audi S2 that was clocked to roughly 550bhp output on the wheels, so 700 ish in the engine, that was fun to drive too, Street legal also
Bet they went through a load of tyres having fun in that thing then 😃
Haha, tried passing him with a s6 with 310bhp, he just shifted down one gear and spun on all four tires😂
🤣
Then left us in the dust 😛
Logic says I should buy a Tesla, but I don't smell my own farts and I ain't a ....
Also the car is horrible to drive and has shitty comfort
I've only been a passenger in them, and that's been a great experience
I found it shitty, been a passenger twice and had it as a loaner twice 🤷
But I had the A8 at the time, albeit it was 17 years older than the Tesla 😛
Yeah, but Audi know how to build cars
And maybe not so much how to build engines that pass emission legislation 😛
I'd love an Audi with a Tesla drivetrain - best of both worlds
(I drive an A4)
Audi e-tron then
The e-tron of a few years, when they move all that magic to a car that's practical
😂
Agreed, I've tried the q3, q5 and q7, only one that doesn't feel like my legs are trying to mate is the 7
I've not driven those, I've little need for a fake offroader 😛
The A4 is an ok load hauler, the boot's a bit smaller than I'd like, but the comfort makes up for it
E-tron is kinda in the middle of the 3 and 5 I think
Boot looks kinda small
Then again, I'm looking at it from the perspective of getting a dog in there...
Got the wife the Tiguan, thought about the touareg, but regretting it somewhat now, might get the touareg for myself 😂
Anyone that has found any good product to attach to a regular light switch, to make it able to send a command? Basically just looking for something that is preferably 230v powered, that has a mometary switch input that gives allows me to ultimately toggle something in HomeKit (through Home Assistant/HomeBridge/Homey or whatever works). Shelly 1's SHOULD work, as they have a detached mode where the switch input and relay work independently, but I found no way to make use of that mode. I could use a Shelly 1 with the relay empty and just soft-toggle my Hue lights depending on whether the (empty) relay is on/off but I would rather not have the relay in there flipping and ticking.
There must be a cheap I/O thingie to smarten a light switch by now. I cannot believe it has taken so long for someone to make it xD
I am going to use shellys for something similar atleast
my garage lights, but haven't gotten around to it yet
but I wont use momentary switches, just connect the existing switches to the shelly
@molten osprey It might look like a samsung atleast, but I would suspect it won't be, but who knows 🤣
I don't know. My experience with AliExpress has been 95% good. And I order off there a lot. Usually non-branded stuff though. We'll see I guess. Once I receive it, I'll try to put it through it's paces and see if there is a way to confirm it is genuine or not.
Yeah, the best test would be to see if it accepts samsung branded firmware I guess
the few issues I've had with chines stuff is with genuine stuff like that. 16Gb memory card actually being 4Gb etc
when I've ordered some chinese branded stuff it's always been 100% what I expected
yes, but I've never ordered named stuff from big brands, that is why I'm curious 🤣
I'm in Asia and "chinese stuff" doesnt have the same connotations here as it does in the west. To me, "made in the usa" means its overpriced because who in their right mind would manufacture in the US!
now, "Made in Germany" is a different matter
I've actually ordered stuff from Thailand once
but perhaps thats because I'm from Holland originally
resistors \ transistors and stuff like that, ordered like..... 5000 components 🤣
"chinese stuff" doesn't have those connotations for all of us, but there is a difference in marketing practices
@molten osprey East Indian Company you say ? or whatever the Holland equivlent was 🤣
Dutch East India Company ... yeah ... we've got a colored past 😉
I order tons of stuff from China and it's overwhelmingly good quality, especially for the price. It's just that fake products are still common
@orchid rose What I see here in Thailand is that fake is fake. And everyone knows its fake. You ask a retailer and they'll tell you "yeah thats fake". About their own stuff! I've not received any fake stuff from AliExpress.
Regardless ... my fav part about Ali is the disputes. Never had anything other than 100% refunds "and keep the product"
Yeah, I love aliexpress
yeah I get that everyone knows it's fake but here we're not used to that
Yeah, true enough.
@orchid rose I've bought vodka out of a trunk of a estonian car when I was in finland, I don't know what other business deals finnish people do 🤣
it took a while to understand that and once you do, it's fair enough. Still I'd prefer honesty
don't get me started with the alcohol taxes here atxbyea
Don't tell me about alcohol prices, a beer on the town in norway can be up to €12 🤣
yeah but you guys are rich 😉
pfff. I'm working overtime as we speak 🤣
Samsung 860 EVO 250GB : Amazon.com $60 (assuming 5% sales tax), $58 here in Thailand at an official retailer, $48 from AliExpress
Alcohol taxes here are ridiculous ... wine especially.
Had a bad experience with an Ali-bought 5-inch HDMI display yesterday
the "drivers" screwed my Pi into no longer booting
That 860 would be $53 in Europe (germany) including taxes. Usually for us it makes no sense to order that sort of stuff from China
turned out the drivers when being installed changed the rootfs= directive in /boot/cmdline.txt ...
wow thats a good price indeed
I bought it for my Atomic Pi, which is still 2 weeks away. So I don't mind waiting to save a few bucks.
Most of the time the bad rep that the chinese stuff gets here is when people order the new galaxy S10 from Ali for 100$ and then cry when it turns out to be shit... What do they expect....
Yeah, absolutely. "If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!"
https://www.adafruit.com/product/3351 ... so sad ... the mounting holes are ALMOST the same as the rpi zero w
(preparing to build my own voice assistant devices)
I was thinking of the same
I just need to buy that 3d printer first 🤣
so sometime next year when I have time on my hands
I've heard there are places here that will let you book a 3D printer by the hour, not tried it though
hello all. brand new here wanted to say hi. just installed hassio on my rpi3 and ready for this adventure. no experience at all but looking to learn. will consult all the docs in the rules/welcome channel
@eternal wasp Be careful, be very very careful.
welcome, and we are always helpful, just remember to be in the right channel for your question @eternal wasp read the topics 🤣
Can't you just use a company like shapeways to 3D print files for you?
@eternal wasp It becomes an addictive hobby, very very quickly.
I have 2-4 hours every week to do stuff atm, so no time for printing at all 🤣
will be better from December when the baby starts in daycare
tks! i think the good thing is i am very green to this and actually havent invested in any devices yet..lol
@valid halo They're from my hometown in the Netherlands. That's awesome!
@eternal wasp I started october last year, now I have 100+ devices and building more as we speak 💃
OMG, wife would kill me
I got the wife on board when I said I could build her countertop lights and a switch that turns off the whole house 🤣
Though I have to worry about MAF (Mother Approval Factor)
haha
and then she said "we could use some smart lights in the bedroom"
"You can do whatever gadgets you want. Just keep my netflix running."
yeah i like your tactic... need to win the wife over with some low hanging fruit successes
yes, and I'm getting the washer and dryer to notify her when they are done now
so winning more over 🤣
nice
@clear ferry I convinced mine when I showed her how motion sensors could be used to light the floor with a soft warm glow when she gets out of bed to go to the bathroom at night.
Now I just need to slowly win her over on ripping the walls apart and running CAT5 everywhere
Maybe I'll buy her some chocolate
That's what the COOL kids do
@valid halo perfectly reasonable ... chocolate for ripped out walls! 😃
I wonder if Shapeways will ship to Thailand...
@molten osprey I was going to build soft lights under the kick boards in the baby room, but GOD DAMNIT orderering slim\cut to order plexi glass is expensive, you have to pay for the whole plate, so best offer I got from the US with shipping was like $400 for 8 meters of plexglass cut to fit under the kickboards, so gave that up 🤷
@valid halo CAT5, what are you, living in 2002 or something 😉
Yikes!!
What what would you use?
I've been told CAT6 and 7 is overkill
I'd go with CAT7, future proof it.
@valid halo CAT6 for futureproofing for sure, I don't even think you can buy cat5 over here anymore 🤷
futureproof it?
So it can be used for whatever uses you can come up with in the future
bandwidth wise, and signal wise, if it will be reused for data traffic in the future
like running 10gbit wires for your MQTT!
exactly!
Look to be CAT6 and 7 is for buisnesses or ridiculous people like Linus Tech Tips who fuck around with 8K footage and ridiculous file sizes
me*
I remember terminating CAT6A in 2005, the standard was kinda rough still, but it worked fine 🤣
they talked about CAT7 at that time, but I still haven't seen it go mainstream
it seems silly now to have 10gbit wires in your home, but it also seems silly now that 10mbit wires were once considered "blazingly fast" ... and thats not that long ago!
I must admit I don't see the argument for 10gbit but then again networking is my weakest subject
not just 10Gbit but the actual signal quality and more
if you install cat5 now and people will reuse it in the future they will have to tear it down and replace it 🤷
if for anything else than slow serial lines
Well since we plan on moving out in 5 years. That's not gonna be my problem is it
Muhahahaha
for a structural investment like re-wiring a house inside the walls, go for the highest specs now
@valid halo Resale value!
I'll be honest. I'm joking about rewiring. Mom would never go for it.
haha
She'd rather spend the cash on getting the floors redone
I've owned my own house for 11 years, I think about resale value still 🤣
not even with the chocolate???
I'd have to get her chocolate and a spa day
hehe
I've honestly been trying to treat her to a spa day
but she keeps not going
😦
LET ME SPEND MY MONEY ON YOU 😠
but the prices have gone up atleast 100% since I bought the house, so I should be good, I've even renovated 5 rooms so far 🤣
Honestly part of me worried about making my house too smart before we eventually move
Shapeways is NOT cheap ... and I say that without any idea of what it would cost to print stuff, raw materials-wise.
@valid halo Think of it as a playground. And then you do the real one once you get your own place 😉
Sure.
that's why most of the stuff I have is plug in rather than built in
so I just take it when I leave
true
She does like the Ring Doorbell I bought
I want to strangle Ring Sometimes. The motion detection for people walking towards it is crap and it always has this blown out image
Like the direct porch is fine. Everything out side of that is like blinding white
$235 for a Raspberry Pi gameboy enclosure ... how does that work???
That seems to be the new darling, doesnt it?
I know that one of them HASS youtubers is just giving one away
Yeah that dude
and one of the requirements is posting about it on fb
Gotta get that engagement UP
Good thing I don't have facebook 🤣
So that everyone hears about Dr Zzzs and subscribes
Being a youtuber feels exhausting
making videos and editing and promoting and telling everyone "Please Like and Subscribe and Hit the Bell and Comment and Say my name to your friends."
No, i think you had to post about the etcher rather than about drzzs
"SMASH" that subscribe button ... cringe
"I need you to SUBSCRIBE to that MQTT Topic so you never miss a message from Doctor Sleep!"
I just have to rescue customer systems from downtime and everybody hears about me, or the other way around, cause downtime and everybody hears about me 🤣
heh
"atxbyea our greatest hero and our greatest villain. "
this "etcher 3" ... anybody know the brand?
it's equally funny when I come to a new customer and they say "hey, you're that guy that upgraded 50 servers over night without any downtime for customers x" and I go "probably, my memory is flaky" 🤣
Ender 3?
That sounds right
Right now I'm working on a system that transacts 1.4 million $ per day, and it didn't go down 🤣
IIRC it was orange in the pictures
Dang
and I feel smart when I unplug and replug alexa to make her reconnect to the wifi
Comgrow Creality Ender 3
$230
$280 here in thailand ... (a 3d printer i wouldnt import myself)
she's up! ... wifey time ... bbl
LOL @molten osprey 🤣
Thankfully I have a garage and an office 😛
I need to get an organizer too
I spent 20 minutes looking for a PIR sensor I bought the other day
and nearly an hour looking for my Pi Zero
Eventually I had to call my mom and ask her "Oh that cute little computer? You left it on my night stand."
Maybe one day I'll accidentally try to eat it. it is about the size of a small cookie
I think I'll be lucky to get a nibble
there's a discord server if you want to get into the action @valid halo @clear ferry https://discord.gg/Gwz5Ky 😝
Aw shit here we go again -pulls on wetsuit- another Home Automation Server
I'm already there @tough igloo 😛
can it realy be that I cant copy ssh keys with ssh-copy-id when I already have an passwordless auth?
My miflora arrived today, but how do I figure out which mac address it is? I have a BLE Scanner app for my phone, but there's quite a few devices and I don't get a clear reading which one it is
only one of the devices show a name as well, a neighbors tv, but that doesn't help me much, lol
nvm it shows the name now for whatever reason...
anyone have a good rec for a robot vaccuum ?
I want one too 😄 Moste of the guys using the xiaomi robot
in a small apartment a stupid one should be fine if you want to save some money, but most here use the Xiaomi one I think
i have a small apartment but its two floors
will it learn two floorplans?
ill just google
@lethal ferry Xiaomi roborock s50
Two floors is not that many that do, I think I heard one user which had one do that
Rather two stupid ones for that I reckon
having to move it around makes it less convenient as well so having two might be better
or maybe build a smart elevator for it. It sees when the vacuum comes on it, let's it run in place on some sort of rolls while it goes up, then stops the rolls. Totally worth the trouble I think
@orchid rose I worked implementing smart robots at a hospital, 20ish of them pick up crates, take them around the hospital and order and take the elevator themselves, worked a lot better than I expected
Atleast until one of them slows down in a corner with four others behind them... They have 360 presence detection and just start yelling at each other... goods transport, please move out of the way in canoe
😄
Or when the elevator fire shutter had gone down, one was stuck yelling at the shutter for 9 hours 😞
future world will be awful, won't it
But the concept is cool, you order a pickup, the robot finds the crate by NFC and picks it up, then delivers it to another location 5 floors up three buildings down
This was... 11 years ago I last worked on it
in debian fstab is called from root right?.. 🤔
asking me why mount -a works but not from fstab..
Check to see what error you're getting 😉
And, Linux defaults to root for mounting, unless the options say otherwise
Anyone here using Phlex? Or FlexTV?
I got FlexTV installed on docker. I link my google account with flextv and can say “Hey Google connect flextv”. I did install flextv.bundle https://github.com/d8ahazard/FlexTV.bundle. In the FlexTV under plex settings I can see both remote plex server under drop down . When I say play it. I get this https://imgur.com/a/fiocjnH 1 . But it doesnt play on my Nvidia shield? Any idea how to fix this? Also under cast device the is labeled Shield Android TV
Is there anywhere here to post a hot tip about deals on Hue bulbs?
here @neat basalt as this is just a general chat channel
Cool, here's a hot tip for Canada folks, the Hue White & Color Ambiance A19 lights (https://www.homedepot.ca/product/philips-hue-white-and-colour-ambiance-a19-60w-equivalent-dimmable-led-smart-bulb-energy-star-/1001027903) can be had for $17.98/ea from HomeDepot. You must change store to 'Edmonton Westmount' but can then pick 'Ship to you' and get free delivery... They currently have 42 remaining in stock, I've just purchased 20 of them.
I have a question about setting up redirection from outside my network
I bought a domain, which includes an SSL certificate that I need to create/activate so I'm working on that. Do I need to do anything aside from setting up the forward from my domain provider? And I'll need to have to certificate copied to my hassio folders and setup the http section in the config yaml?
Or if there's just a walkthrough you know of, I'd appreciate it. I've gone through the docs and watched the walkthrough for setting up DuckDNS but not familiar with this stuff so just playing with it
All you should need to do is simply create a hostname in your domain, and have that resolve to your WAN IP
But if you know of guides or have tips, I'd appreciate it while I fumble through all of this
Ok, but how does that work when my IP changes?
Does your DNS provider support dynamic DNS?
If they do, then use some appropriate software to do that
If not, you can set your own domain's hostname as a CNAME of your DuckDNS hostname
Ok, I'll need to setup something on my machine/local setup that just udpates their dns right?
Yes
Ok, I wondered about that too
If it's silly to redirect from the domain to the DuckDNS and then just set that up
Or if that's reasonable
Using a CNAME isn't a redirect
That's an alias, and is a pretty typical way of doing that kind of thing
Oh, so is the cname something I'm doing locally?
No, that's a thing in the DNS for your domain
Ok
Very simply, your DNS hostname can be an A record (IP address), or a CNAME (alias for another record)
So my domain links to the DuckDNS and then I is setup DuckDNS as in the many guides?
Yes
myhass.example.net becomes a CNAME for example.duckdns.org
You then update example.duckdns.org as normal
The SSL certificate has to be for myhass.example.net
Should I just use the SSL certificate setup through DuckDNS?
No
If you set it up with DuckDNS you cannot use your own domain
Makes sense
I'm sure that prevents malicious redirect
So I setup the domain SSL and then copy that to my local setup also?
Well, more that when you enter https://myhass.example.net in the browser, if your cert is for example.duckdns.org then the browser will reject things
You'll need an SSL cert for the hostname you connect with
Important question: One card/tab for an entity or one card/tab for a room?
Whatever floats your boat
😩
I’m not good at deciding 🙈
All depends on what works for you, in whatever setup you're working with
I've got a mix of things, but for the overview, I've one card per room
Yeah, I've thought of that too. I think for some entities like flowers is en entity tab better than for e.g. light, where I think a card per room would make more sense
My overview is https://github.com/DubhAd/Home-AssistantConfig/wiki/lovelace-ui-home
My room by room (ish) is https://github.com/DubhAd/Home-AssistantConfig/wiki/lovelace-ui-rooms
@valid halo I meant that they had 42 remaining after I purchased 20
Oh. My apologies for assuming the worst
@clever mortar Thanks for the idea! I'm digging your overview!
Tinkerer is away for 1m 29s with a message :point_right: Cranking it up to 88 MPH...
@agile sinew what format do you have that you have to transcode for your roku 3?
hvec/h.265?
@odd mist Yeah. Plus I have a lot of kids media that isn't h.264
I only have roku devices so all my stuff is h.264
I have one 3 in use still (until the garage is cleaned up), and one premier+ in use
Never had any issues transcoding on CPU since I moved over to a Westmere platform, was issues on netburst
Hopefully I'll move to ivy bridge soon
Oof i haven't been in my studio for over 9 months, my musical juices are pouring 😄
@clear ferry I have those energy monitors on my washer/dryer and it send notifications to my phone and my mom's phone but if I'm doing laundry my mom doesn't want the notifications and vice versa any ideas how to set who gets the notifications, I thought about a lovelace toggle but I don't want to have to open my phone to change who gets it
@dark swallow do it based on presence perhaps, if she's not home she won't get the notification, if that works 🤷
Yeah I was thinking that too, or putting some kind of button by the washers that activates notifications for each user
That would also be possible, to toggle a user, but it would be confusing without a display to verify the user
Idea, you could use a RGB light in the washroom to change colour between users being notified
Then you won't need a display
That's a good idea too! I have lutron products so I was thinking of using 3 button Pico remote, top button only turns on notifications for user 1, middle turns on for user 2 and button turns off notifications for both
and I would put a label on each button to clarify which does which
That could work also
i could also do a notification to the user letting them know they activated notifications 😂 seems dumb but could help you know if its ready to go
I prefer the bulb then, KISS 😉
This notification is notifying you that you asked to be notified about important events and that in the future you'll get more notifications about other non notification setting related events.
is deciding to replace his Ikea gateway with deCONZ
@valid halo how did you know that's what my notification was going to say! If I had an echo or google home there I would just have that say who is getting the notifcation
@pure vine replacing mine with cc2531 and zha
I can mind read trivial thoughts
I can only read dirty minds 🤷
I can't wait until we have a cloud based assistant that reads your thoughts for commands
@valid halo lol but yes the notification to notify about upcoming notifications is dumb thank you for helping me fully realize that 😂 😂 😂
I can't wait to get firmware updates for my brain!
KISS
Keep it intricate and stressful Steven
My mind is going Dave...
The best system is the one that you don't understand and is too complicated to try
hahaha lol The complex infrastructure of the female mind
I've been dating mine for 19 years, I still don't know what I've done wrong half the time 🤷
Lol I get that! The more you try to understand the more confused you will get!
All I know is that it is usually my fault 🤷
lol usually that's enough
"what did I do wrong?" -looks angry and says nothing"
Thankfully I'm single. I only get mad at myself
Mmm 70 dollars worth of sushi, time to eat! Itadakimasu!
I don't do this when she is really really pissed but once in a while I will try playing mad lip's with her and fill in more and more ridiculous scenarios, usually breaks the tension
😂
Did I love the couch into the garage? Did I sleep with your father? 🤔
Thunder outside!
❤
Yup it's good to if it's too little for her to be upset about like sorry for waking you up 22 seconds too late

You now come with an energy rating?
yes, i discovered that the EU have zip files filled with the graphics for the labels, so i put the arrows in a discord server
That's... useful?
Not really
It's a good energy rating, though. Very responsible.
Im mainly using
in a meme capacity
My greenhouse is definitely F
Functional? 😜
On fire?
Just a heads up, lightning deal on Amazon for 3 pack of TP-Link Casa switches. 34% off
Ordered a Broadcom RM-Link thingy from Amazon to play with. Never arrived, and An Post couldn't find it. Got onto Amazon, they sent on another one. The two of them arrived today!
Contacted Amazon to let them know, and it seems it's easier to let me keep the second one rather than getting it returned!
anyone here having problems with fire TV? I can't the playing/paused state.. it always displays "paused" 😦
@leaden adder Please DO NOT cross post. Read the channel description, post it and wait for folks to respond.
what does it mean when the @velvet horizon reacts with an ❌ or a ✅ on your post?
thank you for informing me
@unreal orbit what do you mean "it's not perfect"? It is 100% perfect 😛
@open hull the @velvet horizon is smart enough to verify the YAML - when the code that is posted in proper format (using three ticks followed by the word yaml). It also helps you to convert YAML to JSON and vice versa. There are commands you can run in your DM with @velvet horizon
~yaml2json - id: a_start_theme
alias: 'Set theme at startup'
trigger:
platform: homeassistant
event: start
action:
service: frontend.set_theme

Is anyone using WiFi light bulbs in e12 and/or normal north anerican bulb fixture that are Tuya compatible, white (not colour) and have colour temperature adjustment?
Dave... My mind is going..
Stop it
Morning queues 😞 😞 😞 😞 😞
Still no helicopter? 🤔
No, just a jet and speedboat unfortunately
Fadooooop fadooooop would be nice
Thank goodness I always have snacks in the car
Probably why I'm a fatass 😂
Tom Waits meets Balkan rock, I like it
Look at sslh at some point. Really nice multiplexer which means everything from https to ssh to openvpn can run on the same port 443.
My homepage for projects, jokes and bunnies.
Really handy when on networks with random restrictions.
when I've been troubleshooting a network for hours and I notice someone forgot to put on the VLAN I need 😠
That's Friday's problem now
Thank Dog I'm off until the 12th of June then, so not my problem either 🤣
Sucks for them to not have network access to the systems until I am back
It's only 2weeks they'll live 😜
Nice, I might be going to Houston for a week of labbing though, better bring shorts 😎
Queue queue queue 😞
Anyone have any experience getting Open Media Vault data to show up in Home Assistant?
I use rest API on freenas and qnap, not familiar with omv 🤷
what info do you get from freenas and qnap?
I basically just want to know if its on/connected, if all the file shares are active. omv has power/temp info that would be nice
basically I just want to know from HA if my omv is running and fully working
Device tracker ping can get you the first
Yeah I did that already lol
The rest you need to see if they have some API you can access, unless you want to make command line sensors
Google tells me they have no API 🤷
Inferior storage solution 😛
lol I realized that the moment I had everything up and running the way I wanted 😂
Now I just don't want to redo that, I have 4 computers backing up to it, my plex server running off it, etc. just don't want to redo all that on freenas
I love my freenas, but I gotta get 4x10tb in it soon, only has 4x2tb today
The qnap has 4x4tb
Yeah my omv is running old probably close to failure WD drives that I need to replace but just don't have the cash to
Every time... 🤦♂️
My first four weeks of YAML @light trout
Yepo, 20 bulbs... At $18CAD/ea how could I pass it up
First weeks for everyone 😉
Just got some sonoff switches in the mail. Didn't realize I had to create a setup to flash them. Good thing the good Dr. Zzs 😷 explains it well enough.
Someone should sell pre-flashed ones
there is a custom component for people who don't mind cloud based solution, but I'm sure there would be a market for pre-flashed units
although it may not be worth the risk for most sellers as you'd be liable for them if the blow up I reckon
Anyone using Shelly RGBW2s for anything?
Man, soldering is really hard and I am one pathetic loser at it.
Just wait until you shove the soldering iron through the motherboard...
That's a "learning experience" 🤦
I learned not to solder 😄
Almost got my leg a few minutes ago.
It's working though! I overtightened the lead on the sonoff switch and broke the terminal. Had to solder the wires directly to it.
The burn means it's working
Thank you for the stickers @slim vortex
so I'm not sure the best place to ask this but anyone know why I just got an email from let's encrypt saying a certificate for randomstring.ui.nabu.casa is expiring? I don't have any domains close to nabu.casa I do have a valid account for HA cloud through (next payment is due in a week or two)
nm seems its cause remote connection was on briefly and then I shut it off (I had it before setting up cloud)
God damnit Ring
Someone is at the door. Dogs are barking and you can't open up live view for me to see them
fucking cloud bullshit
I'm putting my wyze cam back up
I do dislike the delay in ring sometimes. I got a low power warning the other day and now it has gone. It's like HOW its a ring provided fucking power supply
At least Wyze gives me RTSP
I waited 25 seconds and no live feed
This is ridiculous
The way they did it is weird. The doorbell makes a voip call to their server.
Haha, hate battery devices for anything... I pay more to get hardwired ones
I bought the basic 99 dollah mod
Nice @lofty atlas !
I'm working on your sonoff tutorial now, just ordered the parts and confirmed my library has a 3D printer available.
who here uses managed switches at home?
🙋
Yikes
i dont want to know, @sand badge
I just ordered an unmanaged switch 😃
after several hours of deliveration
$40 for a 16-port gigabit switch
your life will be quiet and uncomplicated!
haha
at the moment i need exactly 8 ports
i figured i get 16
8-port managed was $28 ... so i could have gotten 2
but for $40 instead of $56 ...
@lofty atlas I've soldered for 19 years, I'm still shite 😛
@molten osprey unmanaged switches, bah, humbug 😛
Hehe
I'm never going back to unmanaged, but I've been blessed with managed for... 15 years
I can’t convince myself I would benefit from it, given my situation
Anything below layer 3 for me is a bit .... “yeah whatevz, i don’t worry how the 220 comes out of my wall socket either!”
Ignorance is bliss!
My wife says the same, until I have one of the wrong vlans coming out of the wall 😛
But if you had no vlans, 220 would just come out! 😃
That’s why the unmanaged seems “good enough” to me. I plug something into it, and it’s on my LAN.
hahaha
the etherkiller exists on all vlans simultaneously
Does anyone elses head spin when they try to understand Googles 9382 different chat applications
Google Messages
Google Allo
Google Voice
Google Duo
Google Hangouts
Google Hangouts Chat
Google Hangouts Meet
I use none of them, so no 😛
My Atomic Pi arrived.
Now all I have to do is wait for the power supply and SSD I ordered for it.
Planning to run HA on it.
It’s on an rPi 3B now.
Since the weather was poop anyway I planted rose bushes and strawberries outside 🤷
Four strawberry plants planted from seeds in my greenhouse🎉
Why does google seem to treat Chat Clients like a shot gun?
Just throw out a bunch and kil em off later
@clear ferry I don't know if you've heard of these guys before, but I think this might be up your alley https://open.spotify.com/artist/56h6oZFC4GnKgMA3WQtj35
Idea how this port is called?
https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi/4jexSCGhknseB6qp.medium
an extra usb port would be nice 🤣
SATA Combo I believe
Yeah, standard looking SATA port
@unreal orbit never heard of! But adding to my offline list for tomorrow's flight 😄 🎉
They're kinda proggy smooth jazz. Thought you might be interested since I see you post prog occasionally
If you enjoy jazz you might enjoy this
The definition of it is a bit vague, but I've seen it described as avantgarde jazz also
But I do enjoy it
Argh.. can't find an adapter or card wich I could use.. just will bite in the sour apple (lol old German saw) and buy the "official" hdd case
Today I learned Dark Sky uses robots to predict the weather
For some reason I had the idea in my head they were some Norwegian meteorlogical organization
So I've got this ~5" fan attached to this indoor greenhouse. I plan to use it for exhaust, however I'm looking to keep the greenhouse "sealed" when the fan is not on. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can keep it closed off until the fan turns on? Smart devices welcome....
louvers like a dryer vent?
How good does that really seal?
@valid halo you mean they average other forecasts or use models, if its the latter, everyone does that
HG POWER Round Air Vent ABS Louver White Grille Cover Adjustable Exhaust Vent Fit Soffit Air Vent for Bathroom Office Kitchen Ventilation (4inch) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07JLQ17R4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3Yk8Cb6HRMASP
I need a smart version of this
@valid halo that would be yr
Loving it btw @unreal orbit
Are there any good developers for HA that are available for hire?
I might be eligible for a grant to have my project funded to implement a functional IOTA wallet but I need to submit a budget to see it to completion, if anyone is interested please get with me. Draft proposal is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vQf74cTXqDVIBi43qmAuYDh-tf95OJIy-Z5S4LlEuq4ftGM-QzFO7T-szT-KGCcSMac1cDWu6CueUsi/pub
Hi guys, I have a problem. The problem is that I had grafana up and running, and had temps displayed fine, all temps in one graph and names were visible. Then I fucked up (had not set up persistence in docker for grafana) so it was lost. Now I can only diplay the mean of all the temps, or add them individially, which is super annoyingÏk55?ùÑ(ö×u
The setup is deconz for temp data, inflixdb for data persistence, grafana for display purposes.
@simple talon how well does it integrate in HA?
The smart feeder is wifi but proprietary cloud... haven't tried sniffing the packets yet
I meant the feline.entity 😛
Try smarting it up with a plug, the initial integration might be troublesome
She would not like that at all
This one too
She could power a city will all her crazy energy
#remewable_energy
The only renewable energy is Salt
got a second google home mini
got a letter from the nsa that they had trouble recording my kitchen activities so i got one to improve their reception
😎
Hey Everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. I found Home Assistant a couple weeks ago and I've already got my system converted over from Wink... so much faster, cooler and more powerful. I'm running it on my Unraid server with a bunch of other dockers.
I now want to focus on getting my config more organized and into git. So that's what i'm working on next, and probably use that git-pull plugin.
I've been telling all my friends about the cool stuff I've been doing with HA and already got one of them to set it up on a Pi.
Just wanted to say hi! Another devout HA user from the suburbs of Chicago!
Anyone at that point where everything is up and running how they want and the only way they can keep tinkering with HA is to buy more smart home tech?
Even without more tech, there's a constant fiddling with things to make it "just right", or exploring some new component
More tech sure helps though 😄
It quickly becomes an obsession though, got to watch out for that, lol
I'm not obsessed. I can quit at any time...
You can tell yourself whatever you want 😉
@clever mortar you can quit using it, but don't dare stop being here!
🤣
People just need to stop doing cool stuff that I want to adopt..😂
Wife hated me because I could stop smoking in one day 🤷 but I still buy tradfri bulbs and sneak them into the house 🤔
Replace one drug with another I guess 😂
I used to smoke 40 a day when I lived in Ireland, was way too cheap for cigarettes over there 😛
@clever mortar Oh trust me I know I am still tinkering but I just come to points where I am like I can keep making this just perfect or I could buy this one thing to make it easier, or to add this feature to the automation etc, it's just super tempting
I get comfortable for a while and then I think things like "gee, opening this door by hand sure is an inconvenience" and that starts me down the slippery slope once again
Yup! Same here. I had an automation on my phone that set a laundry timer via nfc. Then I'm like well I can make this batter by adding energy sensors. I bought 2 of 4 sensors, now I want the other 2 sensors
Also my family wants to play music through the house, I made a system to do it but they "don't like it" so now I just bought 1 chromecast audio made it a little better and now I just bought a 2nd and really trying not to buy a third right now
I went Sonos
Not cheap, but everybody can use it
Once they roll out the Google Assistant support, pretty soon folks will just be able to ask for music and it'll happen
Yeah but we have existing home theater speakers in the living room and dining room, and patio which covers 80% of house but no easy way to play music through it. So that were chromecast audio 1 is. second one is for second floor, again existing speakers. and third would be for my bedroom/office again existing speakers
Nice
Also it took way too long to teach everyone how to use chromecast 3 years ago so teaching them sonos wouldn't be worth it
I am just super sad Google discontinued the chromecast audios! They work amazingly and since neither google home or mini have audio out only way to play music through speakers and not tv
I'm just waiting for the IKEA Sonos speakers 😄 🎉
@dark swallow i want more smart home stuff but there's not a whole lot to automate for me
did get a 2nd google home mini today tho and next week i'm buying a new tv
make sure it has a open network ...nsa needs data
hell yeah
Lol nsa will probably find a way anyways so just leave it wide open
I prefer giving the Chinese my data, they only want to feed my purchasing impulses
i play both games, half my house is xiaomi powered 😎
also i've already been in shanghai like three times so the chinese government already has me on file, including my fingerprints
currently looking into getting this one https://www.sony.com/electronics/televisions/xbr-x900f-series
comes with google assistant built-in
so that'd connect nicely with my google home minis
I should replace my 65" 4k with a 75" 8k, they are getting really affordable now
is there any 8k content yet
it's only like since a year that 4k is readily available content-wise
hell 4k gaming is still well below 60fps isn't it
At this point I'm just going to wait until I can turn my living room into a holodeck
@midnight adder the upscaling makes it worth it anyway, and the price is only like 5% up from a 4k
@unreal orbit stardate 2456.7?
Anyone here using life360 with HA?
Ok thanks
@clear ferry if I see anything even remotely similar to a holodeck before I die I'd be happy
I still remember trying vr in 1996, and though shiiit this is going to be awesome
Still waiting...
I want VR without a headset. That is my requirement
In a similar machine like this in 96 tech https://images.app.goo.gl/fLeYhJfHWoVRfbs99
Retina embedded chip is the only way 👌
And I hate being a blood donor, no touching my eyes 😛
they don't pull blood from your eyes ya dum dum
"Please touch your finger embedded NFC chip to the scanner to receive your weekly rations."
Bigger = better when it comes to picture. I doubt 4k vs 8k is going to make any difference though
Ever since CRT it's been a compromise between, size, picture size, quality and contrast. You can only have two of those max at this point unfortunately..
@orchid rose watching 1080p on my old top of the line plasma is like watching 360p compared to the same 1080p clip on my 4k screen because of upscaling, I suspect watching 4k on a 8k that upscales will be similar 🤷
need those ABX tests to believe that tbh
ayone of you have the regular doorbird?
Holy bananas, that's an expensive doorbell
well, if the quality wasn't good at that price I would return it
you could build 300 homemade ones for that price
You just cant get good help from super cheap chinese shipping websites
I bought a Sonoff Basic (TM) and a FTDI
and what do I get? A Sonoff Basic(TM) and a random ass rubber screw pad
Never had issues with aliexpress or wish 🤷 they always refund me if I don't get my goods
Going send a polite email to banggood
Now I'm trying to wire up my son off
Trying to force a dozen copper strands into a tiny hole is difficult
That's why you either twist or don't unmantle before you pull it through a hole 😉
I kind of have to take the sheath off for a son off
Fuck
I'm gonna go get some heat shrink tube or some shit
Oh there's an idea
a youtube video guy just put some soldering tin on his wires for his
I should have prepared more >_<
Sounds like electronics 101 😛
Yeah. Itsbeen 4 years since my last hard ware
Experience
I g uess I'm off to the stoooore
i gave program files sunglasses
I borrowed a basic USG while waiting for the ER4. Will I miss the ER4 you think?
no it's just you @hearty depot
On 'vaccation' seldom have to work this hard 🤣
no real internet - only a lte modem wich spits out 7mbps mostly - ping to google around 150
@hearty depot I'm at 69 degrees north, still have 500Mbit internet 😂
