I was a late diagnosis (diagnosed officially TWICE when I was 36 by two different people).

I never would have been identified as a child no matter what.

The old school switches are meant for AC powered fans. Newer DC fans are not recommended for those as they have more electronics. The best options I’ve found for most DC fans is to just use a bond bridge and some smart switches to bind them to the fan via HA.

I have three RF fans in my house... each with its own controller... I wonder how hard it would be to get those to be smart and work with HA...

And I have to figure out a better solution for my TV as my Broadlink range is so limited, I literally have to have it positioned directly in front of the TV for the IR to be picked up by the TV... which isn't convenient for the lay out of my set up. 😐

I suppose the fans would be easy enough by getting a RF blaster that can connect to HA.

(My Broadlink can not as I ordered the one on Amazon not realizing that ordering the one directly from the company had both IR and RF frequencies.) 😐

I used a Bond Bridge Pro for this. The Home Assistant side is fine, but the Bond stuff leaves a lot to be desired. The main problem is Bond cannot track entity state so it just assumes that the command was received.

Yeah.. that’s not really fixable with modern DC fans. You’d have to change the whole fan to one with smart functionality built in or get an old school non-DC fan

a lot of fans that’s not feasible because they use such complex boxes. All different kinds of voltages and some fans have more wires for certain functions than others.

For now, I just leave them be. I would need to setup scaffolding to get to one of the fans and we leave it on 90%+ of the time at the same speed. I just setup a z-wave switch to send commands to my Bond controller for the other.

This is what I’m planning on doing for a relative. Two zwave switches one for fan light/dimming one for speed control like old school fans. I had them get a tuya fan for their living room recently as it seems like you can get full functionality in HA. Sucks that the RF bridges like Bond can’t see status

Nah, I am using the weatheralerts integration that provides alerts from the NWS though.

(Although, I should fork it and provide updated code since it has sensors that will break with the 2026.6 update)

I went into the packages, found the weatheralerts.yaml file and edited the sensors in there so it is good for that.

But one of my main automations that I am proud of is my weather alert system.

I have one of those cololights and it changes colors based on what weather alert is currently going on.

My last house was a trailer house, and I created it as a way to get instantaneous updates if there was a tornado warning issued etc...

Especially since I do not have cable.

And yes, that light changes color faster than any other ways I'd hear about it.

But yeah, I would love get be able to get my hands on a local weather station to get local weather conditions without dependency on the cloud.

I need to dig in to setting up alerts so we won’t get surprised by bad weather like 2 weeks ago. Woke up without power and heavy rain and wind. Turns out we had a tornado go by within a couple miles away. Lost an inflatable decoration and a power strip not rated for outsides 😂 due to wind blowing rain on the porch. I’ve since gotten proper outdoor rated plugs and strips but it was scary to think we weren’t paying attention to weather and it bit us.

Yeah, my router, modem, home assistant are hooked up to a battery back up and some of my smart speakers are as well. When there is an event like a tornado warning, every speaker is programmed to announce the tornado warning.

The alert light has a battery back-up in it as well, so if the power goes out, it doesn't.

And when we moved to our current house, I just redid the whole set up.

I became kind of paranoid about that when I lived in the trailer house though. No basement there, so if there was a tornado warning for our county, we needed to drive across down to a storm shelter / basement. 😐

So that was an essential set up for me.

For what it's worth there is some sort of minimum angle that a PIR sensor needs in order to detect anything.
They are in essence a 1x2 pixel thermal camera, work by detecting differences in the relative heat measured by the two pixels

you can usually set boundaries and even positions that trigger it

If I have primary trigger of "fan turns on" and it has a "for duration" of 30 minutes. And I also have a "And if" condition that the humidity be within a range. After 30 minutes and the humidity is too high, will it not do the thing? Will it do the thing when the humidity gets low enough or will it just never stop?
