I just want to say, I really hate this stupidness of forcing us to use HAOS or a container. I had a perfectly working setup but now to get updates I have to migrate to a setup that is far more difficult to maintain and setup. Feels like you are just forgetting what made you who you are, the community and open source. This move is anti-FOSS, further closing off access and making everything more difficult in the name of control. #disappointed

glacial knot
#

You can still pick the pieces out of the container, or build from source
Core and supervised remain functional, they just aren't supported anymore

turbid dew
#

Yea, like I said, making it way more difficult if you want regular updates.

dawn badge
#

what method were you using and why?

turbid dew
# dawn badge what method were you using and why?

I was using core for the longest time, because it was fairly easy to maintain my setup. -- not using HA Cloud, nabu casa, but having all direct google integrations and remote access. Now, to maintain updates without pulling my hair out, I'm migrating to haos, but keeping the ssl certs synced with the firewall is turning in to quite a pita because of stupid vm/container/docker layers.... none of these were challenges when running core

austere anchor
#

Core, as in pip install? Nothing is going to keep you from doing that. It’s still a fully open source python project.

turbid dew
#

which implies they are about to change something that is going to make that even more challenging

iron granite
#

Just the support will be dropped.

dawn badge
#

nope, just means some stuff might not be tested in that kind of setup and if it doesn't work its on you.

turbid dew
#

"if it doesn't work its on you."?

dawn badge
#

that's what "no support" means

turbid dew
#

well you know what, haos OS isn't working for me, and its still on me

#

so whatever

dawn badge
iron granite
#

The Container install is supported and less likely to break due to dependency issues.

turbid dew
#

(within haos)

turbid dew
#

(mainly because I've spent like 20+ hours migrating my setup)

dawn badge
#

but that's all part of the fun

glacial knot
#

20h? probsS

turbid dew
#

everything was running native, now its all in vms

#

its really been like 40 hours, but I'd say about 20 of that was purely related to plex and llms

glacial knot
#

Ohh, neat.
Though I'm onto containers these days
Fewer kernels 🙂

turbid dew
#

also, had to add more hardware to the system

turbid dew
glacial knot
#

Ohh, Plex

turbid dew
#

plex is a container

#

while haos and llms are in vms

#

(was easier to get gpu working correctly in vm than contianer)

glacial knot
#

Interesting
Granted, I maintain our Nvidia support on k8s at work, so I'm biased on how hard that is

turbid dew
glacial knot
#

Ohh, so entire pcie passthrough?

turbid dew
#

yea

#

then, lol, setup the nvidia-container-toolkit in the vm to access the gpu from inside docker

glacial knot
#

Toolkit is outside yagaGa
But yeah it's a bit of a hassle

turbid dew
#

no, toolkit is INSIDE vm, so docker inside the vm can access the gpu inside docker.... host(pcie passthrough)->vm(nvidia-container-toolkit)->docker(actually uses the gpu)

#

I could put container toolkit on host, then access gpu in containers

glacial knot
#

Oh, u side a VM that runs docker. Not inside the container. Yea

turbid dew
#

but, I don't want things accidently stepping on each other with gpu. its only an old 3070

glacial knot
#

I think I have a 3060 from work here yagaGa

turbid dew
#

3060 might be better than 3070 if its the 16gb model

#

3070 only 8gb

#

:(

dawn badge
#

thats my current setup, i plan to move to gpu on host and stuff in lxc's but havent gotten to it yet for a couple of reseaons

glacial knot
#

Some of our systems in the field have RTX 5000Ada iirc.

#

I'll have to look closer into the Jetson lineup at some point...
I already run some arm workloads either way
Might be cheaper than modern GPUs...

turbid dew
#

Honestly, I made some bank during crypto mining phase and upgraded everything, so everything in my house is 30xx series due to timing. (I do have 1 4070 in the 'Gaming Fireplace')

glacial knot

I run a k8s cluster at home
So adding computers is barely more complicated than hardware in one^^

CCs wont work for my mom though

#

That's the current setup

it works when I set it up and whenever she buys a new device it's broken :)

#

so in my mind I can put Immich behind Authelia or Authentik and be done with the crap. Just login to either of those and get bounced back to Immich
