Yep for cat7 and above you just push in the wire and it cuts into the isolation
What does response variable do in satelite question?
Look like that
Surprisingly they do 10gbit without any issues
Well, once the connection works properly
ah that bullshit
those things that cost like what
10$/ea?
yeah.
fuck that noise. π
when I cut my ceiling open a while back to snake some wires for my pc..
I put in a single cat6.. and a single LC duplex wire
so.. 10g on cat6 if I felt like it.. and 10g/whateverthefuckl over LC duplex if I ever feel like buying a better transceiver..
We had to poke the moisture barrier in the roof to make the wire appear in the right place so might as well do it right ;D
we don't have a moisture barrier like that here.
too cheaply built and etc..
π
Atx woke up with his tbit Nvidia switches

He hasn't deployed 10gig since 1874
Only 64 ports of 800G I'll have you know @solar zealot
What did happen to you? Don't worry there is no shame in being poor

I just run my entire network over HDMI 2.2 for that sweet sweet 96 Gbps
I use LiFi
is it possible to run IIS on HAOS or some server that can host .net web app?
I mean.. you can use netdaemon to run some .net core stuff?
Home automations in c# for Home Assistant
I made test sever with IIS and cloudflared tunnel, then on my other PC I just use visual studio to publish my test web site and it works just as I need it to
with just ~2 clicks
I mean you can do a deploy-on-build with vscode or wahtever to deploy netdaemon dll file yeah..
then use a script to restart the addon to reload it
Usually your development stack comes with a webserver for testing
and usually its not using a piece of shit like IIS..
Anything else, please use containerized versions of the real thing
π°
but what if he's actively trying to add security vulnerabilities to HA?!
What then!?
afaik .net has "Hosting Bundle" that uses IIS
-# oh my
why?
Mostly about mvc being not really the tool that should still exist
It's kinda the funky pattern for solving an issue that ist really an issue since forever
generally id prefer proper interfaces so you can also tech switch as you like
Either way, see if you can use nginx + kestrel or something else instead of iis
I highly suspect there to be an up to date guide on Microsoft's common places for such things
I will try to find something, wanted to have single PC for both HA and home server
is it possible to run codeproject.AI on HAOS?
I need ALPR
I have frigate with coral tpu but idk if it can read numbers
You probably should consider setting up another VM for anything that isn't haos related
to be fair you haven't needed IIS for hosting a dotnet app in a decade
I just remember iis being a thing with sbs 2008
With wsus that died after every single update (or every 14 days of no updates)
The joy
you can use it in production, as long as it's behind a reverse proxy or something.
I dockerize my dotnet apps and host the locally on my Nuc
You could probably even bundle both inside the same container if you really wanted
never tried that, but yea would work
did you make your test server windows so you can run IIS?
God I despise Alexa.
cool, still a cool solution if it works it works right
I was able to setup everything and it worked so yes
with cloudflared tunnel I just set different port for each web site in IIS and then I can use subdomain to reach it
also should be secure so I dont need Traefik etc
What are you trying to do? Setup cloudflared to access stuff?
I want to host .net web site on my pc and access it with domain name and cloudflared tunnel
Install the cloudflared addon and just direct it to whatever port you're going to use through cloudflare.
Sounded like you may have already done that though? I've got a bunch of stuff I access through zero trust on my network.
I have mini PC and I tested win server + iis + cloudflared tunnel and everything worked perfectly, but then I decided to use that PC for HAOS
multiple vms
flies away
You need to go setup a new Application in cloudflare.
Change the port you're using for one of them.
Shouldn't need a new VM at all just to host two small apps.
it has intel J4125 and 8GB idk if it can handle all that
is it for .net web sites?
A website is a website.
is there an integration which lets me create custom climate entities from a template file?
i found this one: https://github.com/jcwillox/hass-template-climate but its super outdated and even the newest fork dose not work...
dose anyone have expirience with this or do you know a guy who knows a guy?
Finally someone who doesn't unnecessarily mask LAN IP addresses
@nocturne orchid #1284966582375813201
im in ur network haking ur stuff
Host your web content on something other than 80 or 443 if you can't change whatever HAOS port is and then setup a tunnel for both in Zero Trust.
ye i know but no one will respond there :/ but shure lets try again
Send me screenshots of what you find.
wow you're into some kinky shit
it should be illegal to do that to a raccoon
shhhh maybe he will post whatever he finds on a 192 address.
NO KINK SHAMING
lmao.
doesn't matter if the raccoon likes it
Hey, no judgement here
Go piss off people on social media - that's how everyone else gets their dopamine.
I've got like 800 devices that have to be manually deleted out of the Alexa app if you need a real hit.
not even if someone actually enjoys handling tuya hardware?
Alexa app
Found your problem right there
Look here you don't want to kink shame the community manager okay. She's kind of crazy.

She also kind of stingy with shiny stickers
While listening to Rihanna.

800 devices??
But why male models?
Why not
Cause apparently the default should be to expose everything when adding the alexa skill manually in home assistant.

That's how I felt doing that for the first time.
you have 800 devices?
I think it may be easier to just delete my Amazon account and get a new one.
It's fucking overwhelming.
I know a simple solution
Buy the ha voice instead
I have one. LOL
I just need to set it up.
May be the push I need.
(missy send me stickers for this advertisement)
If you use it for any music at all, then I suggest an external speaker to connect to it. Otherwise, it should be able to replace most everything else Alexa.
A cute little box and it comes with the assistant named homey
Or wait no it was nabu

I got it setup briefly when I first picked it up several months ago and had some stuff that I'm sure was fixable, just needed a little bit of time to solve.
But yeah. Abandoning Alexa would be ideal.
I thought that was a playstation 1 at first glance
Kinda looks like one!
basically what I did.
Haha. I see the vision! I just don't have the damn time.
I even bought a speaker to set everything up with.
Maybe one day.

All my automations are suffering from the same fate lmao.
Had one that opened the garage door when my car got within range that hasn't worked in months.
for real though, i'd be too nervous about accidental triggers with an automation like that
Look into Shelly! I've got it setup as a relay on the garage door and it knows if the garage is open or not.
It wont toggle if the garage door is not fully closed.
ASK ME WHAT TRIGGERED THAT LITTLE CONDITION
Lmao.
no i mean it accidentally being triggered when closed
Like opening it?
Ah, the buttons a zigbee button anyway so it'd have to be close regardless.
i mean this
Yeah. I guess it'd have to get the wrong location of the car or something though. Hasn't happened before but I guess it always could happen if something really went wild.
yeah
It's based on entering and exiting a zone so it'd have to trigger being out of the zone, then in the zone just to start the automation.
makes sense. I'd still be nervous personally heh
I have the google home speakaer things..
I'm very tempted to make some of these PCBs and go off-grid.. π https://github.com/justLV/onju-voice
I have 5, but I'm using voice PE devices instead
i've got one that I'm woefully underutilizing
The speakers are vastly superior, but it doesn't have an XMOS chip
And the ESPHome config is waiting for ESPHome updates
tho if I get that board made..
I need to go to.. jlc instead because pcbway is on cocaine if they think i'm paying that much for their boards..
... also feel like that board couldve been handled with 2 layers and didn't need to be a 4layer..
So I have a Netgear LTE modem for a failover internet connection (which we don't need very often at all, but it's nice to have) and it has the ability to send/receive texts and has an HA integration. I have an automation set up to notify me when texts are received and I decided I wanted to set up a blocklist (to not be notified). I set this up with scripts, input_texts, and an input_option. The input_option is used in the notification automation. Does this feel like a Rube Goldberg machine? Kind of. Does it work? Yes.
that's Illinois. the other flat state
I managed to run my blazor app on HAOS as custom addon and can open it on port 8080 π€― will check if it works as it should
all I had to do is to create 2 files: dockerfile and config.yml
as ChatGPT told me
Nice
now I am trying to setup cloudflared tunnel π°
@old copperis your avatar old disappointed fallout guy?
casually faves this gif
prime day this year is kind of shit
it usually is.
upside: my last significant pcb order from JLCPCB got through without tariff idiocy.
π
Random thought, probably not original, but using a vibration sensor to tell when the washer is done
I mean a current clamp would also do it.. π€·ββοΈ
yes, with some photoshop π
Many people tried, most failed (including me). Just get a power plug, has been working solidly for years
Vibration sensors are unreliable crap or expensive
most are not so good with washers though
that's disappointing, why should they be unreliable? it doesn't seem particularly difficult
noise.
if you know electronics and dont care about voiding warranty, you can try to connect to the board, for example if your machine has speaker/buzzer that beeps when done or something like that, my machine has display that tells me how much long it will take before I start it and then I can see time left so I can just set timer on my phone for example if I need it
you'd have to do something with an accelerometer and then probably.. sampling windows to get it tob ehave as you'd want
i just use an energy monitoring smart plug and some automation logic
"the washer"
|| Washer? I hardly know 'er! ||
but like motion is not that hard to detect is it?!
with what as a reference point?
accelerometers spit out a lot of noisy data
Wouldn't it be just as easy to have a button that you press that just starts a timer and gives you a notification?
whereas current clamp or plug
... current is either higher than quiescent/done current.. or its not
The song plays at the end of every washing cycle on Samsung washing machines. The name of the song is "Die Forelle" (The Trout) bei Austrian composer Franz Schubert.
Buy the Samsung washing machine on Amazon https://amzn.to/3SXGe94
Tell that my washer/dryer that adjusts it's cycle based on weights and humidity of the load...
My washer has wifi.
No clue if it works though. I'm to lazy to try it.

Are your clothes really clean if you haven't forgotten about them twice and had to run them through at least 3 quick washes?
See mine is dumb smart. It just does stuff but doesn't tell the world what exactly
so annoying. I have LG and both the washer and dishwasher play a damn song
it probably comes with the cancer that is a specific app.
big boomer brain not able to read the "Press this for 3 seconds to mute" thing? π€
most of those "smart" ovens arae like.. for food cooking or notifications of being done I think?
most don't allow you to remote-on them
for semi obvious reasons.
Burn your house down remotely. Claim insurance.
"big boomer brain" not care enough since the washer is in the basement and the dishwasher only runs at night
Who needs a heater, I just run my over 24/7 through an automation and smart plug fan setup in home assistant.
yet enough to whine about it.
truly the best generational skill. whine but don't fix. π
Exactly.
you truly deserve all the hardships heading your way lol
Just use a real mans mute button.
Screw driver to random holes until it stops screaming.
all the shit you guys fucked up and continue to fuck up* yes.
please go on. I need a good laugh
The ones I've tried were. And I've read others struggled too. I also tried an accelerometer, but it didn't pick up the vibrations well enough for it to trigger reliably. They are not consistent
isn't that weird though, like conceptually
well it doesn't really help that.. the machines are sort of made to not vibrate much
A power plug works so well and gives you good data, so why bother
no, because they work to make it not shake much
You bother because nobody expects a vibration sensor to work badly
our washer has a goddamn variable frequency drive powered motor inside of it.. that thing is dead quiet when it gets up to speed for the most part.
Maybe the commercial ones work better. I went diy
we only have it because I forced the parents to spend more than "the most basic piece of shit" that we had previously (twice) that died in the same way twice (the plastic drum that holds the water inside cracked.. flooding on the second floor; fun.)
Now I put the plug data in the energy dashboard
Nope, most people that tried the usual ones were disappointed. Especially since the machine has some pauses in between and it's hard to decipher them
Hmm, what if we detected the start, then set a timer, then after that timer started listening
because wash time is variable, but only slightly
.. or.. or.. just use a smart plug
but it's inductive load π©
You'd have to start measuring you machine pauses. It's so much effort for something that can be solved by a plug
you're using it for power monitoring not for switching
I definitely don't feel qualified to decide whether that means it's fine
I'm fairly qualified on electrical ish stuff by way of like almost 2 decades of tinkering
you will survive, so will it.
then take my anecdotal evidence of using smart plugs to monitor washers and dryers for 5+ years with no issues
the same ones, in fact
the issue with inductive loads is the spike of current on starts if its whats directly in front of the relay
however.. its not, because the washer has a relay or SSR that handles the motor driving and its whats eating that inductive load spike and such
It's not like you're controlling a 5kW escalator with that
Houshold appliances are made for the dumbest person
Even if "oUt oF sPeC" use cases shits still solid 90% of the time
Voltage spikes, not current spikes. Inductors resist change in current
either way the issue is that spike on the relay when it tries to close
the micro relays used in shelly/plug stuff are not made to eat that.
well.. it could eat it just not for very long.. π
It has over voltage protection
our dryers actually gonna require relay replacements at some point the motor-run relay has started to stick (but goes back to normal if you smack the board holder)
Considering every washer has some microcontroller built in you're never controlling the motor directly with a smart plug
i have fixed that dryer too damn much
I thought shellies could handle it?
Samsung be like: yes lets use insulated terminals but only where it gets really hot!
Even if you'd use it to turn that thing of mid cycle it wouldn't just start back up
their inductive load limit is much lower than the overall limit
Yeah especially if you have a heat pump or inverter-based dryer, their peak inductive load can spike pretty high
"inverter" is just marketing wank terms for "It has a variable frequency drive"
aka "it can run a whole lot more efficient and work harder only as needed" π
I set up geofenced notifications today using a todo list as a queue and while I'm happy I have geofenced notifications... I'm squirmy about the abuse of todo lists as a queue π¬
good god ecobee sensors are overpriced as hell
upside: at least they aren't quite as shitbag as google
re: nest that aren't at least gen3 can't use them despite definitely having the same wireless chipsets inside
I don't understand how people can charge $52 for a used one that has been chewed up by a dog
ah thats newer stuff
nobody sells the old ones
1 listing on ebay and its 50 bucks a pair
it's so low it's rebar
π suppose so.. glad I chose ecobee for familys house when i did choose
Can't afford new toys with my AC running so much anyways
thats not that bad..
compared to me..
running a portable and a window unit in a poorly insulated attic (well, lets call it maliciously insulated as they insulated the roof behind the knee walls so its trapping more heat and letting it trasnfer to the living area..)

i did oprder the heat pump on 4th of july tho
so.. gotta prep for that and get ready to install it
and then finish doing this (properly insulating the living area..)
My water heater is cooling my garage now. It's neat
yeeah my boss wants to put one of those in his house
I should remind him so I can get some more work hours.. π€£
The Rheems are quite nice.
that is the one I was gonna suggest him yes
his goddamn house..
has a standing water tank and oil burner for heaating waater right now
Super quiet, 65 gallon, and a flow based recirc. It's great.
but the water tank doesnt have any electric heat to maintain the temp
so.. it always has to kick on to reheat the water..

yeah..
I had 2 pure electric 50 gallons on separate loops that were 20 years old. that used uninsulated steel pipe that was balanced on the AC ductwork.
its not quite that bad in that house.. but I did somewhat perhaps pitch the thought of a recirc loop to him maybe sometime too because.. the house is massive
This thing is amazing
meh.. I'd just get the one that rheem specs
not me paying; and it integrates last I checked?
also.. mixing valve probably too; use even less hot water
Rheem has a TSB against using recirc on hybrid systems. This one is designed for it.
he buys the tools and stuff.. I do the work-- i get to have some tools sometimes.. π€£
It literally has a page in the manual about how to install one tho..?
I just said they had a TSB to advise against it, I never said they didn't contradict themselves
tho the most infuriating part of working mon his heat stuff is..
the lack of a goddamn drain in the floor
for the over-pressure valve on the boiler and etc
I feel that. I have to have a condensate drain for the hybrid and I have no drain in the garage.
truly asshole design.
we discovered this when he tried using a condensate drain pump for the adjacent air-handler in the winter to remove the over-pressure water from the boilers drain bucket..
Right now it's just using a 3 gallon bucket lol
and of course..
whoever installed that drain pump just sent it outside enxt to the A/C unit
and used.. copper pipe to do so
so it fucking froze over in the winter because of course it did

I'm likely gonna.. make my own drain line install that will dump into his downstairs shower drain area.. because I just need to drill a hole in the wall to put a small exit pipe under a shower seat.. should be better than it is right now at least? π
The old church in the city I lived in poured a slab with radiator piping in it and let it sit til spring before erecting the building. Every pipe burst because it was full of snow before the thing was built. They had copper pipe hanging from the ceiling throughout the building.
Just lurking, don't mind me.
the amount of corner cutting I've seen working on his house and managing his homeassistant stuff?
is baffling to me.
and also rather infuriating
Dude go look at home inspectors on instagram or tiktok. Modern construction is an ABSOLUTE SHITSHOW
like the people who did his air handler in the attic for his second floor..
They didn't have things actually square to the goddamn joists at all so it bugs me every goddamn time I see it.
his house is large enough to have 3 breaker panels.
none of them are labeled; except the sporadic ones I've added.
Don't get me started on my shitty house lol.
its none of the stuff like that but like.. last week I was in his second attic (two different levels of house so two different slightly-connected attics)
and... we found an extraction fan to cool the area?
.... it wasn't wired in
the control box was just fucking dangling there.
for 25+ years apparently.
his house is a lesson in repeated code violations.. I just try to not have a stroke when I see it
big outdoor front yard/garden..
they used mains-powered lights.. Sure.. Fine.
They buried the trunk line between the two sides of the yard about 8" down in the garden area and it has been severed and poorly repaired a few times.
I have a lipstick on a pig flipped house from the 60s
After purchase, I have had to:
- Replace and rearrange all the breakers and remove an illegal sub-panel that was BYPASSING the main breaker using 10 gauge for a 50 amp load.
- Replace roof
- Replace furnace
- Replace plumbing
- Replace irrigation
- Replace patio slab
- Gut garage back to studs and redo EVERYTHING because they slapped a second layer of drywall on to hide extensive mold. (and also because it was an illegal bedroom)
(including once when the repair person elected to.. swap neutral and ground around)
Now I do occasionally do.. slightly off things I'll adamit
like.. I used stranded wire to install some smart stuff with wagos in a wall box.
but the stranded 16g wire was FEP based so.. 250c~ or so failure point that wire will be fine.. π
I try not to.. do anything that I would not want to have in my own house sorta stuff..
I just gave up fixing stuff.
well i get paid hourly while un-fucking his house's stuff and upgrading stuff.. π
I got better things to do now. Like fixing my car
my most recent headache was... putting in a new unifi switch in a less bad place (previous old one was in the attic.. it died in heat)
... and realizing that the switch is 48 port (32 poe) and doesn't have a 10g SFP uplink
unifi.
Why are you like this.
Why do you put a 48 port gigabit switch with fucking 1G SFP uplinks?
who puts a full rack in an attic?
-# when soulmates run into each other
not a full rack, it was an older unifi switch
and I did because I really didn't want to run that many goddamn home runs another 150+ ft
But still it's a rack unit. In an attic.
I modified it after iI had to repair it (it had dying poe power board..) with heatsinks + 3d printed bracket for further fans..
and it survived one summer; just died on the second apparently.
150f on a shelly measuring in the attic so it was probably like.. at most 50+~ or so celsius? that should not have killed a rack device... run the fans dammit
Go passive fiber with a mux/demux
but regardless.. it'll be worked out this time.. its just gonna require using some punchdown-splices to extend wires and etc..
bunch of downstream cameras with poe requirements and some access points/etc
well there goes my first and probably only prime day buy..
some govee matter-supported smart bulbs to replace the hue bulbs that have been slowly but steadily pissing me off.
What's been going on with them?
WiZ is cheap and mostly works. Plus they make 1600lm bulbs
two have been behaving oddly anad randomly started flickering on and off until power is cut/unscrewed for like 10mins
took a look at one the other day and..
I am pretty sure that part of the bulb is ceramic
so.. god-damn
Jeebus
to be fair.. these are like..
the original hue color bulbs?
so like.. 10-12 years?
Spicy boi
that is... probably an acceptable amount of time for them to last.. I mean they still mostly work now but.. I'll probabaly just move them elsewhere in the house (my father really likes the smart stuff)
is this bad
its odd/maybe marginally concerning
since I'm pretty sure that part of the bulb is ceramic
and ceramic doesn't usually crack unless you like.. abuse it or thermal shock it
and I've done.. neither really?
looks more like plastic and just cracked from the heat it's been subjected to over the years
doesn't sound like plastic when tapped on.
either way the crack just comes from the heat
except materials dont typically just crack for no reason. π
shitty pyrex getting suddenly hot?
Thermal shock.
rapid cooled/heated? thermal shock
welcome to the effects of prolong exposure
I know I get to see the effects of lead poisoning everyday here.
I think that's just your generation. you may still grow out of it
when did we last have leaded petrol?
The world started adding lead to gasoline in the 1920s. It improved vehicle efficiency and engine performance. However, lead has proven to be a toxic pollutant, particularly for children. Using it in gasoline pollutes the air in cities worldwide, significantly impacting human health.
before I was born.. Just before. π
luckily I'm far enough from the border that the French being late to the party shouldn't have been an issue π
preexisting infrastructure wasn't thoroughly redone so you likely still getting it in your water
but they have
though around here they weren't wide spread since copper was already more common π€·
yup and all old copper was lead soldered lol
not to mention just about every valve had lead in it
kinda appalled to see that they only recently required removing them for former east Germany though
Anyone know if the Unifi Protect Horn Speaker is supported by the Unifi Protect integration yet?

Okay, thank you!
Quick look at the annual report shows below measurement capabilities. Though that's only 0.1 of the regulation limit
And the limit seems high, at 2/3rd of what the US allows
limits are nothing more than a compromise
well, yea. That's why the interesting bit is "below the sensitivity of the measurement"
truth is people should worry less about old things like lead and worry more about the new shit they will come out in 40 years from now saying we all shouldn't have been around all this time in the present
cause there will always be something
nah. no worries.
Climate catastrophy will handle it. π
.. or handle us; as it were.
guess you'll just have to learn to adapt
I'll get right on that after the facism years. /s
well, yea. Currently it seems to be microplastics
soon it'll be something else π€·
the answer is.. it'll be more teflon-derivatives.
because they play regulatory whack-a-mole with the precursor chemicals needed to make it
yea, various non-stick pans and tupperware got good chances
surprisingly its not actually them
its the shit that dupont/whatever the fuck those fucks are calling themselves these days dumped while making it.
The biggest chemical cover up in history. PFAS has polluted the entire global water system. Now, potentially dangerous forever chemicals are being found in the entire US population. they were just dumping the precursor chemical into a ditch that fed to a fucking cow farmer's land
because murica
nobodys proved this new mystery chemical we use is bad yet so we're free to poison people with it!
teflon/FEP itself is hilariously nonreactive as long as you dont overheat it
(and if you do overheat it; if you have any birds in your house they won't be alive much longer.)
but the chemicals used to make it? toxic shit.. and thats the shit thats in our blood.. π
and basically permeating the entire water cycle.
you trust people to not overheat their cooking utensils?
I mean I use that stuff.
the boomer morons I live with who keep using fucking metal utensils on the pans though?
idiots.
hilarious that gen z just up and decides to blame all their issues on previous generations while NO OTHER generation before them did that and just learned to take the hand they were delt with and improve upon it
yea, other generations didn't fuck up quite as much π
he's part of said generation so he can't really grasp it.. π
well, yea. But the density is directly related to how dense they are π
I know.. π
also, luckily I'm not Gen X
imagine being so old you think that's young people
and I'm not even young anymore and not Gen X

gen z
even millennials didn't complain like this
and that was the generation born into the internet
you know what's hilarious?
watching the generation that said "that will rot your brain" say that to millenials who now get to watch that actually happening to the idiots with lead poisoning..
that your generation is going to complain themselves into a rut? yes we are watching that live
phew, still not being talked to
I think imma just mute the general dipshit for tonight.. I've had enough of lead poisoned
you don't complain as much lol
I do though π
no you really don't
you kids have made the world as it is now. my generation hasn't had any say in things since before you were born and all the stuff you like to bring up like lead and asbestos etc was banned and delt with before it could even become an issue for you so all you sound like is someone who likes to complain because you can't do anything else
I do, but half of it is about zoomers

-how to fix broken macros in excel
Bought new access point and not got it working yet
not sure which of those three are worse
Broken macros in excel, clearly
yes
even worse
they are french
so I have to debug FRENCH macros in excel
FUCKING FRENCH PEOPLE
why can't you just use english like the rest of the world
AZERTY KEYBOARD
screw that
it's fr*nch. Please be respectful
FRΓNSCH
I was a schipol 6 years ago, bought my eldest daugther a pair of Miffy Clogs, they are quite cute

You mean french formula definitions?
no
Macros, not formulas
the formulas and regionalized stuff is a whole other discussion
WTF would you even implement that
My wife learned norwegian formulas, and didn't manage to help me with english formulas because why would they make sense across languages
r/notforspelunking
French macros? Aren't they called "Macarons"?
We have blueprints for automations. Is there a similar resource for hardware? I wish there was an aggregator for installs (hardware and automations used) that focused on their use case (#kitchen lighting, #home theater, etc.)
We're kind of working on it?
I dunno if it's a direct answer but the device database might solve that for this situation.
I'm trying to design my system but there's so much that I don't know that I don't know.
Learning curve for Home Assistant is still high and the flexibility can leave some people overwhelmed. Totally understand.
I'll show you a learning curve
is thre a place to make suggestions on here or is this just a place where suggestions go to die?
These look like the resources I was looking for:

A database of hardware that works with Home Assistant
why does it say i am not allowed to create topics in this category?
does it know I am american?
Because feature requests on the forums are deprecated. The new place is on GitHub.
thanks!
I thought of having a feedback space here with the server redesign, but it was ultimately decided to not split things up. The transition to GitHub helps make things easier for the product and engineering teams. π
yeah
no problem
theres a lot of that here
I was asking about an integration and ended up chatting on the forums and he helped me. I guess he isn't on discord
Is there an option to turn on lights based on 2 claps?
With voice assistant I only found text based responses.
I know that is is cliche and in every movie with smart house, but that's why it is a must feature. π
you might be able to mess around with openwakeword to make it work, but #1284966915055288530 is the support channel for voice stuff (audio control I guess?)
The OG smart device
The clapper
"hey computer, turn off the bedroom lights" just takes too much time compared to clap clap
I still love my little keypads around the house controlling things, no need to yell at anything to make it happen π
[home-assistant/feature-requests] Auto-detect duplicate feature requests workflow run
I guess its a duplicate
It's absolutely this. Meeting scheduling works fine, but we have a few people who always seem to miss meeting notifications, lol
In general I don't want to talk to it like it's a human
I seem to be in the minority on this
Even if it were an actual human I would not want to make whole sentences
Jarvis, kitchen lights
What keypads are you using?
I especially don't want it to pretend to be human when I still need to be careful in phrasing
Me neither
but when I think about it with a 100% human I would come up with shorthand too
I want a tiny language model that can figure out what i want from a few words and some context. Like im in the kitchen, i say 'jarvis, lights' and it will respond instantly and turn on/off kitchen lights
That recent blueprint that recognizes like 500 different nos and yeses, no thanks, give me exactly one, and make it a weird one (like affirmative/negative)
how do i combine the two graphs onto one ?
I like "make it so" though
they got split cause they're different units, doesn't really make sense to merge in a standard graph
What would be a nice negative counterpart to "make it so"? certainly not "make it not so"
make it null?
ideally yes but I'm not willing to spend the money to make a system that knows where I am
Espdecks, custom designed/made https://github.com/AeroSteveO/EspDeck
you can also make a system that knows where you arent
I'm gonna guess I'm not there yet with one of those
There's also the local deck if you want a full product
Yes yes
Espdeck and local deck are both fully open source and esphome powered
is there a instance of HA which has all entity types i existence which can be reset to that state? would be great for testing
There's tons of cheap ways to do that
presumably involving some knowledge and soldering though?
There's tons of people with knowledge but are shitty at it
This is a fact
ask me how I know
I've met so many people with master degree in IT fields who could hardly turn on a monitor
htf is that possible
Then again, I work in automation and people come to me with windows issues
No clue how I'm considered the expert π€£
Google: Windows + Problem. Done
I once had a Unix admin stand behind me with a notebook and write down all commands I did, and be surprised at all of them, and he managed the system, and it was a critical national service

lol, some people don't like CLI
Then you shouldn't be a Unix admin
which is mind boggling because it's the fastest way to get pasts security and get shit done the right way
I'm a prototyping "engineer" for print system that are about as tall as a truck. But still people ask me about their problems with printing at home lol
"Printing is printing" -clueless enduser
my wife was a print major
Absolutely you spray some colored dots on paper, done.
Fun thing about Unix systems in Norway, most of my colleagues who did them are either dead or retired, I'm the only one in country that officially is a HPUX systems engineer
or laser em
Itanium is dead, and we have stopped selling the systems, but I still install three a year
set your price yo
Even more fun, this is true for about 15 Products, some cross country
BTW, I was in norway the same time you were I bet
What were you doing in 1998, may 15th
"I want my lawyer present."
Well at first you still spray some colored dots. Just dry not wet?
SNZB-06P is a Zigbee Human Presence Sensor that can detect movement or stationary person. It automatically turns on the lights when you approach and keeps the lights on until you leave. The built-in light detector ensures that the lights are only turned on when presence is detected in the dark, helping you save energy. Support Alexa, Google Home...
I wanted to do clap twice and it will toggle lights on all rooms that detect human presence, but only for those rooms that are close to clapper.
Does anyone know any zigbee clapper?
#1284966617670881350 -> Recommendations tag
I am not really trying to solve this issue but I'm still not convinced it's cheap, seeing as I'll need multiple + I don't know how precise or reliable these are. Like what if two of them see me
There is also just this thing called multiple people living in a home, does it know who spoke, I doubt it
and then there was this journalist who needed help every time he needed to use "save as" in word.
and all those times he had lost articles and had no clue where he had stored them
a journalist who doesn't know the basics of word... kind of like a carpenter not knowing how a hammer works
the first time i ever worked on a cisco router was in a customer lab. and our customers customer turned out to be the armed forces. so i had two people with notebooks behind me writing down everything i did. yeah. very fun when you also have to fake knowing something you never touched before.
Have you considered tap sensors instead?
Pololu - Verbal Machines VM-CLAP1 Hand Clap Sensor https://share.google/V0Xz8Y0ZKkOBuFg80
The VM-CLAP1 Hand Clap Sensor from Verbal Machines is a low-power, microprocessor-based audio sensor that can detect hand claps or finger snaps while ignoring background noises such as human speech or music. It operates from 2.5Β V to 5.5Β V and offers a simple interface: when a clap or snap is detected, the output pin goes low for 40Β ms, and ...
this one seems to be discontinud. i guess clapping at your devices isn't that cool anymore.
post in shameless-self-promotion when done π
don't dance flamenco near the clap sensor π
I haven't considered anything, I just know smart home stuff costs money and I am sticking to the things that give the most value and don't just let me skip "kitchen" when saying "kitchen lights"
Or use mmwave and don't speak at all. I did my entire house for 180 usd
I don't even actually have a voice thing anyway
That's good to know.
I'm trying to think of good solutions for this but it's not easy without new hardware, tbh.
Got a door open sensor in the mail π
Or do and have a disco flamenco
I have basement + 2 floors. So I can't just say kitchen lights as there are 3 kitchens in each floor.
Basement Kitchen Lights is quite long
Second Floor Kitchen Lights
I'm kind of a voice control skeptic in general, I've toyed a bit with the thing on the phone app and it doesn't understand me often or I don't know what to say
but I don't suuper badly want it
You can always make a helper group for the lights that has a new name. That's how I get around that. For example, I have a couple lights in the mud room. Since we don't have a presence sensor in there, I need a command to turn them on. I have a helper group called "Dog Mode", so all I have to say is "Turn on dog mode" and the lights turn on.
You should be able to just associate the voice pe with an area. So if you talk to that voice pe it lights the lights in that area.
"Turn on the lights" with a voice PE in your kitchen, associated to that area would do what you want. True for amazon and google BS too.
Or f' voice and just use mmWave as it's way more seamless.
BUT this is really a conversation for checks notes not this channel
Isn't this channel like offtopic where we can discuss about everything and anything?

anyone here have a birdfy
I dont understand threads
here in discord or what?
is that to me?
yes
nope
yes
birdbuddy
its like another room about a topic basically
its where discussions go to die
imagine your at a party and someone is giving an announcement and you want to talk about that person over there with a friend you start a thread and it doesn't interupt the announcer π
I cant even imagine me at a party...
Pretty sure this is the raccoon discussion room though
@old copper here is what tis for: you ask something and someone say yes I know all about that lets chat in a thread not to muddy the water in the main channel
it can be effective its just not good for soliciting help or conversation
squirrels
and @scenic radish
as long as it doesn't overtake the water cooler with support
which it always does, which is why -> post in separate thread
forums and threads aren't a good way to illict help
I dont want to start thread for such unrelated question
they fine for having organization
Literally no one is forcing you to be here
I also am not sure that search works within threads?
they are asking you follow the rules
you sure you're not a bot?
do you get new oil instead of soda?
me on my lunch break:
it works, but people don't search anyways
ah thats probably true
I just asked what options I have if I need more storage on mini pc, this is not support, and now for 10 minutes we talk about why I cant ask it here
advice = support
ill help you
you can use an external drive or replace what you have?
in the 10 minutes, you could have also created a thread and potentially gotten support
hes making stuff up
Those are the rules. You either respect them (even if you don't like them) or you look somewhere else for help.
They are not negotiable from case to case.
but its not related to HA
There's a whole channel for that
(and it isn't this one)
well atleast on discord people follow the rules...
You could find out here https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1284976732428046461
Use the correct channels or threads for your messages. If there's a better place for the current conversation then use it, and don't post or link to the same thing in multiple places. Also check the description in each channel before posting, as extended rules may exist for that channel.
Ender you trying to become Mod?
Non-contributive or incoherent behavior which is disruptive to the community and conversations will not be tolerated. This includes bumping/unarchiving threads without contributing anything relevant to them.
Yep, life goal right there.
Probably playing MTG
woah woah, no s*pport here - only chill
Different time zone
complaining about support is technically not support
it is something you'd do at the water cooler
Except when it is support.
I need help complaining about getting support, how should I start?
Get a cool beer first

All I think of when I read Cajun accents is Gambit from X-Men. π€£
I just go to that weird guy from true blood
I don't want to be out of place. Having an issue after 16.0 OS update starting the Frigate Add-On which worked before the OS update released for OSx86_64. Can anyone help me with this or have any experience about what changed?
"weird guy from True Blood" = literally all of them.
That weird Cajun guy
Not SOOOOKIE guy
Or the very bruja man
Or the very gay man
You know, the weird Cajun guy
Who was a serial killer
Or something
Wow I'm old

love this conversation with yourself.
You should monitor my office
"fuck I'm stupid"
"why the fuck did I do that"
"who the fuck is that"

That didn't popup when I clicked the channel before - i was trying to get to a list of issues. Thank You.
The classic Star Wars βthat conversation wasnβt going anywhereβ but in The Matrix, nice
you can curse in here? WTF
does it look like a christian minecraft server to you?
Gonna have my friend's Gork bot join and all you can do is ask it "gork is this true" and it responds with "yea".
In our new Slack org for the foundation, which has only been open a couple of months, I am responsible for more than half of our messages containing "fuck".
I'd be so cooked if I didn't allow cussing here. π€£
You should learn Norwegian so I can learn you proper cussing
German is where its at
Nein
Heilige ScheiΓe
I've played enough Wolfenstein to sound like an angry German
And three years of German in school, but I learned more in Wolfenstein tbh

Just stumble over your words and shake your head violently as you go
Easy angry german
return to castle wolfenstein is my favourite
also good yes
I like it dark
btw there is also Wolfenstein 2009 on PC but you basically have to pirate it because it's abandoned. I did not even know that game existed until last year
I played that on playstation
It was horrible
Only thing I remember was a sniper rifle and that didn't fit
I did play in the European RTCW:ET League for years
I was able to revert back to another boot slot and resolve my personal emergency for the moment. Here's a link to my issue: https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1392574589531328552
Not trying to interfere with y'all's admiration of the water jug and such. I'm open to recommendations if y'all have anything.
I absolutely hate the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, lmfao.
Greg is a shithead who deserves no friends.
Assholes abound. Takes a special kind of ass these days to keep from spraying shit everywhere.
I just let the shit spray sideways.
eww... you nasty lol.
Case in point. π€£
Why are you calling me Greg?!?!!
I don't think they were...
From a search on "who is the main character of Diary of a Wimpy Kid"
"Diary of a Wimpy Kid is an American illustrated children's novel series and media franchise created by American author and cartoonist Jeff Kinney. The series follows Greg Heffley, a middle-schooler who illustrates his daily life in a diary"
I just had to tell me son to stop cursing - hes 18 but every sentence has a bad word in it and I said we are done
I use expletives as punctuation in my speech.
I totally understand your pain, though - trying to get my son to stop doing it doesn't...uh, work out so well sometimes. π
Studies show that people who use curse words increase their pain tolerance a measurable amount. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7204505/
you have a slack?
Did joost lie when he said you work on discord as well?
one of the crows? Or do you have a human child as well?
We used to be on Discord - we moved off of it a few months ago.
LMFAO I have a human child as well.
has it been so long? And the pins are still in limbo
oh my gods they are stuck in fucking customs in the UK.
oh no, what happened?
still? I thought you got them to Ireland π
I tried!
They didn't show up, and so we looked at tracking and they're still just sitting there, and it's really difficult for me to give them a call. Their email volume takes them weeks to get back to me.
at this point I'm surprised they haven't destroyed them but are still handling them o.0
π
I was expecting a "oh yeah you need to pay customs again" message. lol
oh yea, that'll happen once they are supposed to enter the EU. Unless someone carries them personally
I recently had to pay for a t-shirt and a DVD I ordered from the UK
Just saw this https://youtu.be/th9ypRw3xBU?si=fMa_TXArSOVTNHTu - feels like it could be a really nice voice satellite... They're already using parts of the ha interface in their demo xD
Espressif has launched a smart AI development kit β EchoEar.

Hardware...
But I haven't received any communication that I need to pay anything. π
Classic post office bullshit.
yea, they tend to be stubborn. Otherwise I'd say you should have someone with an @microsoft.com mail ask them if they can move faster
this looks neat
but the video is all I can find about it so far
Sorry guys, these channels change way too often for the frequency I'm here.
Which channel can I ask for device recommendations?
but have you managed to get another server to remove their curse filter? /s
lmfao technically yes.
what server then? π€£
Because of you rofl - I felt so bad you kept getting caught.
as hilarious as your messages were π
lul
I've now had two different answers from two different mods π so confusing
thank you anyway

wait.. is esphome just another server you own!? /s
The other mod told you the exact channel. I gave you the information, how to find it yourself.
Not own....yet....
its just missy again. /s
I was too genuine for it.
"We can't keep up, disabling."
For serious, though, I'm working on getting some things to support those 2 servers a little better. π
my daughter quickly found out that the swearing filters in most gaming servers could be tricked by inserting formatting in the word. like a color change.
Yeah, a lot of companies just do block and allow lists, which don't cover variations.
It's both hilarious and incredibly frustrating.
<fuck>you</fuck>
she did get a lot of 24 hour bans on some game servers because other players reported her for swearing π
snitches...
@static sluice dragging this over here but HIIIIIIIII I didn't notice you join last month. That I will say my bad over.
All good, I saw a message you forwarded and decided to join and see what's here.
A good portion of regulars here are familiar with me talking about the WinAdmins server lol, always fun getting more of you over here. π
I have the same channels unmuted here as in the WinAdmins server
kitchen, home and garden, and water-cooler/complaint department

So when the sun hits the planet....
Gonna sex educate people about the sun here let's go
Who's got 2 thumbs and Tuya isn't working for them again?
this person
it may be easier for you to just learn to do KiCAD at this point and replace the whole board with a regular esp.. /s
YOU PROBABLY AREN'T WRONG.
Like I need more of those projects, though.
I haven't touched my e-ink displays in months now.
tuya esp32 interposer boards when? /s
Get back at it! E-Ink is such a great waste of time π
I have some things that are already set up that need to be fixed before I can get back to those.
Which screen is this? I've been considering grabbing an eink screen to play with.
Unrelated discussion, not asking for support: Is anyone actually enjoying Matter so far? It's giving me nothing but issues, and I wonder if it's better for others or not.
it entirely depends on how the device works.. and how much/little of a shitbag the mfr has been
Lmao.
I have nothing Matter in my house, so I am useless. π
99% of my stuff is Zigbee/Zwave and it's so flawless, anything Matter has been irritating. Especially over Thread, but I know why my Thread stuff is busted, I just don't care enough to fix it.
nothing matters in your house so you are useless? what an odd response..
We'll tell Tuya to send their first matter devices to you.. /s
have we met? It's pretty on brand for me.
Oh lord don't get me started on Tuya stuff either.
Don't wanna type it all out but bought 2 Tuya devies, used them for 6 months, gave up and returned them both. By far the most frustrating IoT experiences I've had so far. Aqara's Zigbee stuff not far behind.
They just sort of... stop working.
HUZZAH I got them both back into Home Assistant.

I just strengthened my Zigbee mesh with an additional extender.
Thinking of getting off wifi bulbs, too, moving to Hue Zigbee or something.
zigbee is nice for lights except I don't like how brand effects work with it vs wifi
as long as you don't care about blink etc then I would swap to zigbee
We get a smart home budget! And also they've dropped their prices recently, trying to compete with cheaper brands.
How do you mean, blink?
well like how smart lights come with built in effects like blink or breathe, color loop etc
OH yeah no I don't use any of that for the indoor bulbs.
for some reason using those with zigbee is kind of weird
oh so its only two or three times more expensive now? /s
prime special yesterday ordered some govee matter bulbs.
to replace my slowly failing hue's and also..
actually plug all the fixtures in this attic with smart-bulbs.. since the rest are not.. because hue was always too fucking expensive
These lights always fall off my network so I am setting up an automation that sends me a notification whenever one falls out that has the title "Tuya strikes again". π€£
shouldn't it say, "why have you not thrown these away yet?"
Nah, they actually aren't that much of a headache, I just haven't sat to fix the 800 problems I currently have in my instance.
I am doing the same thing for one of my contact sensors, too.
Get an ai to write a mildly mean sarcastic response every time one drops off the network
Or better yet, a Markov bot to do it
That's one of the things I need to set back up.
I've been using a local ollama instance set to Werner Herzog to write my notification messages.
When I upgraded my home network to fiber and got all new devices, I lost the connection between my PC and Home Assistant and haven't set it back up yet.
just have it play this on speakers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Q_ZzBGPdqE

This is the first parody song and video we produced at TrueBit.TV. It is based on some lyrics by Sunni Freyer. We hope you enjoy Cameron's "impersonation" of Paul McCartney. Since when is this hot? π
Does your ollama instance swear at you too
getting it to reliably do this is something I struggle with
No, but that's because I don't actively use it, only when I need to write up notification messages.
damn ollama has already released an update to compete with grok? daaamn they're real fast. /s
Gotta love being able to search this server to find something you forgot how to do. π
What if you forget how to search
