#

is home assistant in a vm on windows as good as home assistant in proxmox if the windows hardware is way better? like ryzen 5600x vs i5-8500t.

#

i have a zigbee adapter and a rtl adapter, so i'm worired about compatibility in a windows vm with those.

nice, you don't see that word very often

but aside from windows haterade, is it really that bad?

ocean oar
#

Client Windows is still miserable.
My work laptop has so many issues with hardware randomly stopping working (audio, Bluetooth, WiFi). Yesterday it wouldn't let me close programs (even force quitting the process, wouldn't die).
Pretty much at the point that rebooting daily is required because something just randomly breaks and that's the only way to fix it.

#

Windows server - being free of most of those problematic bits, because no-one's expecting them to be there in the first place - is okay, most of the time

frozen fulcrum
#

i just meant for virtualbox/vmware workstation/hyper-v with HAS. i have no issues with windows as a daily driver for regular tasks, that's not my qualm.

I'm still wondering if I should bother with an ldap, or just keep my identities in keycloak and celrShrug
I prefer OIDC/SAML over ldap either way

That it integrated by syncing users from ldap into keycloak, but cannot provide the ldap to clients from it's internal database

So you have to sync the entire catalogue and don't do lookups? I'm not sure how to read that

rpiboot is letting me mount the 512gb nvme ssd installed in the yellow board

I'm doing both

#

Plex playback can be hilariously janky, it sometimes tries to play 2 versions of the same show/movie at the same time, just slightly out of sync. Nothing appears in "Continued Watching" if it's triggered remotely and sometimes you just get audio, no video

I have a bit of a tricky situation which I don't know how to address:
There is a core integration which has the platinum quality, but it is actually very poorly built. It doesn't do proper conversions, it doesn't remember configurations, etc...
I expect the code meets all the quality criteria, but it "feels" far below bronze and I don't think it should have been accepted in core in its current state.
How do I get this addressed without hurting anyone's feelings?

#

I have created an issue for the integration to request some improvements, but I don't think anyone besides the maintainer will look at it.

Bitch Mode ON
Error logging in Home Assistant can be better and consistent
It's often not clear what the functional source of an error is unless one is the developer familiar with the code. This makes it hard to figure out the source of the error how to debug, and often results in errors being reported to the wrong repo. Are there HA standards for the structure and content of errors and warnings?
At the very least the error should clearly indicate the source of the error, and preferably a link to related repo

if its software gated then you have paid for it. if they charge you more to access it then its extortion.

if you break it down:
either its paid for and they are just milking you
its not paid for and they are loosing money on every sale of a smaller battery

do we think they are prepared to lose money by essentially giving out free 10kwh of batteries? if so I would like some immediately at no cost

#

although a theory might be that a "smaller" battery dynamically unlocks some of the unused in order to keep its capacity rating longer. therefore reducing battery warranty claims. which might be enough to swing the overall cost benefit analysis

#

this is true but by adding the bulb and and switch you have actually added something

So I set up EVCC which is a software-based charging/battery solution with a HA integration to control it. I don't have a smart charger/charger that can be controlled, however it's still super useful because it tracks total charging costs and proportion charged via solar which is very helpful. I'll be getting a home battery some time this year and will likely get a smart charger installed at the same time to make full use of this. Unfortunately my car doesn't report anything/isn't connected so can't get any of those metrics back. May look into creating an ODB-read device that can push data somewhere using an ESP.

Highly recommend that project if anyone has an EV and at least solar or home battery.

Looks cool. Does it still have value if you're all-in with Tesla car (tesla charger) and Tesla battery, which kindof do their own magical stuff?

Tesla is listed in their supported devices for Cars, Chargers and Energy Measurement - so I assume so. I believe Tesla already covers a lot of this stuff in their app - but nice to have it external to that.

Only 25% solar?

Yeah unfortunately. Only 5kW system, late Autumn here, lots of rain recently, and my partner now uses the car 4 days a week so not a huge chance to have higher proportion.
