Hi, I am stuck on the Cayman Islands and I have to develop a C# app in four hours or I'll get executed by a local terrorist group, please send me $300 as quickly as you can, I've added you on discord because I trust you friend
C#? No problem. Just set your keyboard half a tone higher.
I C what you did there.
Starlink not working out for ya?
I don't see an account by that name on this server
not even banned
You mean Db ?
Sorry, where can I ask a question about user and permissions?
No, raising the decibel will just make it louder, you want to raise the pitch a semi-tone so that the keyboard plays in C# rather than C. Better get on that, you've only got an hour and 20 minutes before your captors kill you.
-# I don't have $300 for you
Nope, not on any server I belong to, that's what I meant by no mutual anythings. Just some random signed up 2 days ago joker.
I'm sad that I can't even ban them
Tempted to take the request and invite them to this server just so you can 😂
Come over here, my pretty...
security can become an issue. i can work from anywhere within my country, but working on production systems from abroad is no-no. no use of public wifi. it's either office or home network or via 5g connected to our own radio network. if i got caught working from a cruise ship it would be bsd.
Ok, fine, I'll just live on this cruise ship forever!
Why? Plenty of companies have production systems across multiple countries, how are you going to manage those?
it all depends on the employers rules... in our case accessing our production systems requires presence in the country or a few secure locations in other countries. some are more paranoid than others.
That's gonna be funny for all the European companies on AWS with IT in India
Philips
vpn, yes. but in our case even vpn has to be over a controlled network. really paranoid.
We can’t have anything hosted outside of the US.
And cannot access from outside the US
We're going to can't have anything hosted inside the US
Probably wise
while we are working on pulling even public cloud services out of us controlled providers 😄
Many years of laziness and ignorance
Assume you are working on ICBM defense systems? Cool!
Hey, I am new to the Home Assistance world. I wonder what the best devices are to connect with Home Assistant? I am thinking about Shelly devices because they are the easiest to connect. Would you recommend some other devices? Thank you.
Man, if there was ever something i regret installing, it's the advanced camera card. They push a new update very 12 hours. It's getting tiresome.
shelly is good, older TPLink light switches (pre-cloud) are great. Zigbee and Z-Wave hardwired is fantastic.
it doesn't have to be that fancy to attract state level threat actors. sometimes being a cell phone and internet service provider is enough.
i have even seen a newspaper attacked by someone with that kind of resources. an attack that should have gone completely unnoticed if not for a very suspicious journalist who was the target.
Yeah, I've fixed military grade stuff across the internet multiple times, but usually if it is military it is airgapped anyway, only reason to leave the house tbh
that journalist got attacked because he was one of the people working on wikileaks content before it went public. back when wikileaks actually had real journalists combing through everything and redacting information that could endanger people. someone with really deep pockets wanted to know what was in there before it got released. the base was kept physically airgapped so they could not have succeeded with our copy at least
@lone dagger how is your terrifying crochet coming along?
I have a full disk issue on HA OS. What would be the right channel to ask?
Howdy folks!
I want to use home assistant to better my bedtime and wake up routines. Is there a place to post my goals and get suggestions on what devices or automations I need to reach those goals?
Hahaha it’s a little pushed down the project list right now. It hasn’t changed yet.
nonetheless, its darkness continues to grow unabated...
I was installing a new kitchen hood and the only thing I could think of was ceiling cat
Hi Team, since the last upgrade HA seems to crash during a reboot. A full poweroff of my Odroid seems to resolve it, where is the best place to ask/debug ?
hehe, it has been stable for a long time
I am just noticing this now but what happened to all the extra sensors in the Spotify integration? I saw that they were all removed like a month after they were hyped up in the update notes.
Spotify removed them
/me pets atxbyea with tux the linux penguin
Well shit. Excuse my language but that's what it is. My cousin (lives 300 miles away) just lost his wife to cancer....
Screw cancer
What's the current state?
Here’s the last update I posted here. I can’t find the image that compares the body to my son’s height, though…
I thought I had one…
lol
And you want to crotchet a Furby body?
I mean who doesn’t, right?
Yes.
Nice
Might prefer knitting
I was damn hyped about those, only to find out they have been removed a month later
(while I was tired in the bus back from Poland)
but I do want to introduce new things like a switch for adding tracks to your library
I just like winding you all up
I just saw 2 sparrows making babies
if you have video, I'm sure there's a place for it on Pornhub
or the National Geographic channel
I feel like ordering a vue 3 but I also would need to order a bunch of probes
They should just sell some with esphome or add a plug to connect
Oh no, that is actually difficult for me lol.
Picking between knitting and crocheting?
I know far too many knitter's
No, mostly hats, mittens, and slippers
And the occasional basket ball holder that didn't felt down as small as they expected
#1284966582375813201 I need some help with this add-on https://github.com/mdegat01/hassio-addons?tab=readme-ov-file
is this the right place to ask?

It is actually 16+3 cts
Need 8, but want about 300? The home assistant way
i just looked at how to do the flashing and saw the recommendation for probes to connect
and i just dont feel it as much anymore
but more better and cheaper!!!!!!
Mmm, kinda same, but I will have to do it at some point
A spider board would be very useful
ugh someone will need to visit down under again for that
dont you remember what happend to the last guy we sent therw
ive had a cool idea for a voice assistant idk how possible it is a small walkie talkie custom esp device that can talk with an retractable antenna back to home assistant
Hey man, just wondering is the ability to monitor your own channels for YouTube coming in the next core release? Looks like the github thread has the completed tag
What has a completed tag?
I didn't finish iirc
https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/103947 Says completed as in 141693
ChatGPT and I made some virtual Funko Pops so that I can put on my virtual shelf. Presenting... Home Assistant All-Stars Series 1!
can it generate 3d models too? for printing
I'm sure you can
That looks like some grotesque character from The Last of Us
@solar zealot would this help?
https://www.printables.com/model/1152988-emporia-vue-v3-esp-home-flash-jig-w-fixed-toleranc/comments
that's pretty nifty
Wow WROVER-IB modules are really hard to come by unless I want 650 of them...
Wow I have impeccable timing apparently. Walk into a conversation about the Vue as I try to save mine
What sensor are you using for that?
Should have a $10 electric bill for the foreseeable future. The car might throw that off, but we don't drive that much.
I wanna see you go 200km/h on the autobahn with that skateboard
no
that doesnt' get you from A to B quicker
and you'll stand still if I unplug the right wires 🤷
What superpowers can you get from that? Radon is a pretty rare thing here, though I have vague memories of the 90s they sent a simple detector to every home in Britain so they could map it properly
so solar panels + battery + car == 90K?
90k seems steep for solar panels + battery, just trying to make sense of 90K
That's a weird way of budget allocation
Food also is a home assistant spending if you use the energy gained from it to work on your smart devices
90k could easily get you off gas completely
how big's the battery?
@dawn badge @solar zealot must say it is not my design, but will be one of the first things on my 3d printer when it comes
Does anyone know what filament you need to make live raccoons when the print is complete?
@forest edge what ratio of your filament to pla makes real raccoons?
Oh you will be held liable anyway
The Ioniq 6 looks like someone vaguely described a Porsche 911 and Hyundai went
Better than hyundai at the scrap yard looking at fucked engines going "omg we need some of this tech in our ice engines" and then doubling the oil change intervals
oh yea, the modern 911 looks nothing lik ethe old 911
No need to bring American car design ideas into this @last cedar
They are enormous
Speaking of 9, the Honqi EHS9 is quite popular here, and I like it
Imagine if Americans would still build Fleetwood like EVs
70 tons, 0-60 maybe downhill
Wait, you actually like anything?
Yes
Is that hell freezing over?!
Mods, can we pin the evidence? ❤️
Oh did you guys see those new electric concrete mixer trucks. Those are fucking scary to be next to
Only seen a Volvo electric flatbed tbh
If it didn't say electric on it, I wouldn't have noticed any difference
Powerwall 3, 13.5 kWh. The car is 77 kWh.
I tried the ex30 the other day, and the backseat on that is useless unless you are a 140cm contortionist
They fly at the lights like crazy it's absolutely madness
Interesting
Quite expensive
I should get 30% of 45k back when taxes come around. Reducing by electric bill by $200/month should be a payoff time for the solar system around year 13.
After that, it's cheddar
If I wanted to cover my entire roof with solar panels it was $14k last i checked, but it has no value here since power is free and sun above the arctic Circle is less effective
Is that just hardware? Installation is expensive.
Average power price is currently $0.001 per kwh
Installation and hardware
It also counts as diversification. Don't want 100% of savings in the stock market, especially now.

Can confirm, atx boxed those electrons up regularly to donate em to me
They just have too much of them
We actually have to dump power
Because we have too much
And there are not enough cables to transfer it to other regions
Have they talked to you about rerouting it into your basement
I thought you never visit such place?
make better cables
Probably will, but nah
ever see the movie The Fly? pretty much what you would get
I dont get how you spent 45k on batteries and solar
i hate the new electric garbage trucks. can't hear them far enough away to run out with my garbage bin when i forgot it the day before. we now have 4 different bins to juggle... and even if their app notifies me i sometimes (well... quite often) forget 😄
can i run a long extension cable to your house?
Question about backup would go to Integrations?
That's a good point
@stuck anchor There's a card for that. It shows when next bin day is. (If you have the data)
this US or other? don't remember where you are from
there is a nice integration that already supports my area. getting notifications isn't enough when i fail to execute. i need robotic garbage bins that can drive themselves out. 😄
i'm in norway.
Just have ha notify you every five minutes
You need a backup for z2m?
I find the edit box on discord so tiresome in de support section. Ahy can't they make HOME button work like it works in this field i am typing now. The amount of times i type HOME and don't end up at the start of the line.. so infuriating. Every time it happens is just want to scream.
@clear ferry Or make your wheeliebin electric and have it drive itself out.
20HP per gargabe can

amends some text :P
electric mining trucks
if these are going downhill loaded they never have to charge because of regenerative breaking haha
they also do like 6MW charging on them if i recall
Yeah
But the mining companies have their own grid
That 6MW will probably come from a battery
just leaves them by the fence 24x7
Put in a conveyor belt to move it back and forth.
@primal laurel The mother of all battery fires 🙂
6MW Battery charging
yeah?
Yes.
no
- cost - the food scrap bin gets fetched biweekly, and the unsorted weekly. but only once per month is included in the monthly renovation fee. if you have your bins out more than that it costs extra. rfid tags on the bins automatically register each time they are hooked on the truck.
- optics - if every house were to have 4 bins outside.
- space - some side streets don't get serviced and have to bring their bins to a common spot. and that would become quite unwieldy
- laziness - walking out to the street with every garbage bag? nope.
- We pay monthly for twice a week pickup, for a max of two cans/bins.
- It's a yard, not a trophy. I'm not in an HOA.
- I'm not in this situation.
- We have a small wheeled wagon to carry the bags out, but our cans have no wheels.
@stuck anchor I suggest you move to Birmingham, UK. They just lob garbage bags into the streets. Any day of the week, anywhere you like.
It's heaven. Rat heaven.
So my little stray cat colony would love it there
we have these everywhere. Underground garbage container
we have one bin for glass and metal, one for food, one for paper, plastic goes in a plastic bag, and then one bin for the rest.
Yeah cats love scratching open bin bags. Used to be a problem here. Especially if it had fish or chicken in it.
@Stefan See how that goes when they stop collecting. 🙂
We have one for plastic now. Used to be bags.
why would they do that
8000GBP paycut could be a reason.
well, then don't do that
That's what they would have said in Birmingham last year
in the city and some communities on the route to the garbage facility they have pneumatic garbage disposal.
no, pipes all the way underground. your garbage just gets sucked away...
I have waited several times behind one. Takes about 5 minutes in total.
and hot water loop in the same ditch using energy from the garbage for remote heating
Bin empty! Success! Next house 😛
The city of Bergen was one of the cities in Europe to use underground waste collection to cover its entire city center, around 7 sq km and 12,000 households
I've seen videos of garbage collectors just throwing the entire bin into the truck
It's called a garbage bin for a reason
That's happened here, and then the city has tried to charge the home owner for the new bin
Security cameras came in clutch
/bin/laden
I have an alert that flashes any rgb light in my house until I bring the bins out
maybe blink the lights in my daughters room until she does it 😄
Will just be a disco in there.
Power off computer / console though. That should kick them into gear
And shut off the heating/cooling (whatever ist most inconvenient).

Well. Maintenance was testing the backup generators. And now we have no power in half of the jail. Whee!
Why does a broken backup lead to power loss?
Can't they just recover with mains?
time to start a jail break
Nah, it's only admin and services that have power issues. All the housing areas are fine lol
Breakers being tripped due to startup surge.
... Brilliant
In any event, not my circus, not my monkeys. I'm electronics, not electrical. 🤣
just sits back and enjoys the show
a customer way back did something similar. routine test of failover to batteries and then generator. then one time as the generators started there was a huge light arc over the supply rails and everything went dark. hundreds of servers and storage systems suddenly powerless.
Oops.
Aaand it just tried to come back on, and the UPS DID NOT like whatever they did. It is screaming like a banshee now. Someone done Fd up lmao
i got called in at midnight to be ready for when power returned and they had no plan for how to bring up a whole dc. nobody had thought about dependencies.
Aaand now it's back on battery. Oops. Back on mains
hope the banshee goes away?
It's a disco! Lights keep going on and off in here! Wheee!
play some disco music on your phone to set the mood...
Probably hopped up on sugar, artifical flavours and colourants raving
I should go to lunch. Maybe it'll all burn...
man I really need a better temp/humidity sensor. These TH01s suck.
Aqara go brrrrr
What does it do when it’s warm?
wrrrrr
Does atxbyea know what warm is?
Saw this a long time ago, absolutely epic
when he visits his server rack
id have my doubts, thats surely just a big snow blower
I watched it on my tv when I first found it and my wife walked in, looked at the tv, looked at me, said “no”, then left the room 🤣
Only 35kw per rack, with 4 servers
an unforseen design flaw
Flaw?
That's the fun thing about Norwegians
My side of the country it is normal to use genitals as adjectives
And we can call the police for horsecocks without repercussions
But in the south, that would get you arrested
So they always think I'm adorable when I'm working down south
Even though i would be in the HR office daily if I was a southerner
@stuck anchor can confirm this
is there any easy way to update python?
Doesnt seem like HA is allowing me to update stuff.
update it where?
I have no idea lol
I tried to force update it in the console becaause it didnt seem to detect any updates
2025.2.5 version i think
I think that will be something for #1284966540617449515
Holy red text of Antioch
The snake device is ready to pair
Yes
Aight, time to go OTA update my plant
My airwaves aren't that dirty
when the plant sensor is tuya based
so it is tuya

Oh my
sounds about right
Sascha works again.
GPT might be able to fix that too
I uploaded by packages zipped and wanted some feedback. Came back with your 460 automations looks good with 55% of them using conditional, whatever that means LOL

-# (I just think this is the cutest and wanted to share it out for community awareness.
😁)
Disappointed with VPE. Microphone is absolute shite. For something that is a voice assistant you would think the thing they spend the most time on would be microphone
Buy a beta product, get the beta experience 😄
idk what kinda studio quality sound recordings people expect out of a voice node, but all it needs to do is be good enough to recognize speech - which it does
But I wanted to do Katy Perry karaoke 🎤
Mine works great.
What’s wrong with yours?
A better mic would be wasted effort in that case
I just figured out today that a bunch of automations that I was making are mostly pointless.
I was trying to minimize how much power I pulled from the grid. I pay 21 cents per kWh and they give me 9 cents per kWh.
However, what I realized today is that they don't settle until the end of the month.
Which means until then, it's a 1:1 ratio.
Which means that it doesn't really matter what my gross grid use is at all, only net at the end of the month.
Which means just charge my car whenver i *(& want, instead of waiting for sunlight.
Maybe it's a different plan?
My power provider has several different plans, including flat rate billing, time advantage, energy advantage, etc. They have different rates and different surcharge fees for usage types.
I'm in Ohio
But then you pay grid price
So you lose 21-9=12 cents per kWh
Only at the end of the month
I think what they're describing is they just realised it's net billing.
So it's only the difference in imports/exports at the end of the month they're paying.
Basically using the power grid as a battery; borrow theirs now, and return it later.
If it settled instantly or every hour you'd want to minimize use. But it's more like a credit card. As long as you pay off the energy by the end of the month you don't pay any extra interest or fees.
Ok that's net metering, it's a kind of subsidy
Let's call it what it is, bullshit. I feel for you @unreal crystal
Who what
[It's broken](#1363232982445457728 message)
Just calling net metering bullshit, you should be able to decide when you pull what from the grid.
Wut? Net metering is like the best case scenario
Ok I may be out to lunch here.
Bit late for that no?
My whole point was that because it doesn't reconcile instantly, I have the option to lean on the grid more.
I can admit when I'm out of my depth... I'm out of my depth. I didn't understand @unreal crystal's context (a failure on my part) and inserted my own. @unreal crystal apologies.
-# will still call bullshit when required
no harm done, just wasn't clear
Anyone purchase Smartwings shades recently and have to pay customs fees?
What do you mean? I'm clear as mud.
-# Going to bed, good night.
Not broken.
And if I had net metering I'd never pay anything. Gross metering is way worse for the customer if the feed in tariff is lower than the consumed tariff.
unfortunately the providers where serinus and I are still have some baseline fees and i believe net metering doesn't cover those. plus the state limits the size of your install to 120% of your last 12 month average (though I've heard you may be able to get a waiver).
You think they're strict about that 120% ? Seems like the kind of provision intended to prevent issues
"the state" is also a very ominous thing in an international space
uhm, would template sensor questions go into configuration since it's not really an automation?
Oh. I didnt see that channel. ok thanks.
you connect home assistant to that with thread
your new home looks smaller than I thought it would have been
Good god facebook. I finished a integration hack for motioneye. And the only post is a question if motioneye is unmaintained. With nothing positive. Its my topic so i have to check. 30 sec search results in last commit in acceptible time.
I said its maintained do your research. Now a whole discussion started about im blunt.
Not a single post about the integration.
I mean, that’s pretty blunt
this is why stuff becomes unmaintained
Yea i know. Am i not allowed to be blunt? Its was late and he ruined my high
And its facebook
Its reply now or never reply at all
Hi 👋
Sometimes ya just need to stay silent and not be rude ^^ it's not that difficult
on the internet? Such a dumb idea

He asked me a question i could not ignore.
You chose not to.
I made something and he tells me its build on obsolete stuff.

Damn right Pyjama jesus.

F1. Time to practice my German.
JA
eine gute
i've heard some states it's very easy to get a waiver by saying you plan to buy an EV or switch appliances from gas to electric. haven't looked far enough into it to see how ours is. still a few years out for me
does any one know if you can ad confirmations to these switches ?
dont forget us
Does anyone know if someone made a jellyfin alternative to the https://github.com/JurajNyiri/PlexMeetsHomeAssistant ? This is a great card, you can set it so that when you hit play it goes to the media player its configured for. I'm setting up dashboard for tablets in each of my kids rooms. I like that I can create a tab for Movies and all they do is hit play for it to go to their TV. I just would prefer to use jellyfin.

Hi all,
I'm so confused with the new Discord layout. Don't we have any Chat channels anymore where we can discuss specific stuff. For example: like Frigate? Or can we only post topics now and hope somebody will participate?
the support channels are forum based, you create a post with questions in there.
Wow, ok. That's a bummer
some people dislike it but it works better in general as it keeps things split and avoids chaos of people discussing multiple things and stuff getting lost
Yeah that's true. In my experience, topics will get snowed under and never be seen. But maybe i'm wrong 🙂
Thanks though
Try it and see.
Finally got my Inspelnings to replace my blown Athom plugs. Now time to go on a rename spress so all my old automations work again.

Yeah, figures
This is what I'm talking about when I bemoan my local used PC component market... He has 8 hard drives listed in total. The highest capacity is 120G. I added all 8 up and came up with 580G. Meanwhile, for 19.99 each and free shipping, I bought 3 3TB drives from a Newegg marketplace seller. All 3 of which were still in the original OEM packaging, unused.
it's facebook, it's preying on the dumbest people online
I thought that was Twitter
Oh that's just one example. Our local craigslist listings aren't any better. If I want real deals, I have to drive the 2.5 hours over to New Orleans. (Soon, I'll be able to take the Amtrak again, but that'll be an all day thing...)
Why don't they just mail it to you
Shipping overcharges...
And, it's hard to pay in cash when you aren't there. And most of these kinda deals want cash.
interesting, I've been doing that for 10 years. Never paid with cash
cash money tax free time
People still don't believe me when I say you can get 10TB drives for $100 used
Is this drive in a basement with you
Yeaa
That's a good deal
=.= I think I'll have to get my hands dirty on the automations building blocks for loops....
Floops
almost
is there like a normal chat for home assistant voice?
I like a channel just to discuss it
No.
Why not?
Support channels have been moved to forum style channels.
I just wanted a normal community to see how people have used it in automations or cool use cases rather than support
People can show off their voice stuff in #1284960456880029707, if they want to. And there is #machine-learning for LLM related chats.
normal chat is not allowed. Everything is support now
fortinet
@clear ferry you ahve weird stuff. Do you have some multi-room audio setup?
Only multi-room servers.
I don't even doubt it...
Hey
you'd never
Multi room servers that is
I actually installed a setup with 512 servers in one room, and then 512 servers in another room, we had to make a superspine to interconnect them

But no, no multi room audio here, playing around with music assistant currently though
one cat 5 (no E) cable should be fine, right?
It actually ended up being 1024 new links between the rooms if memory serves right
64 switches with 64 ports each
Plus the downlinks to the new spines
o.0 full N to M?
Infiniband fat tree yes
o.0
That is just spine leaf, now add superspine on top
All leafs connect to all spines
All spines connect to all super spines
With one or more links
That infographic is old though, these days it is moving to 800G
And downlinks are 200/400
hm, music assistant also looks like a good option
I don’t understand music assistant.
Like I get what it does, but it doesn’t seem to solve any gap I have (and I have multi room audio)
do you have hardware devices you use for clients, or run some software players?
I just use Ikea symfonisk in all rooms
I have two symfonisk lamp speakers in the bedroom that connect to an apple tv and the bedroom projector
Great fun
One symfonisk bookshelf in the main bathroom, one in the kitchen and one in the dining room, main living room has a LG tv with Chromecast with a Klipsch bar, downstairs living room has a Luxor tv with Chromecast and a Sony bar
Garage will shortly have a Snell speaker setup with a Chromecast connected to a Yamaha receiver
My office has Klipsch speakers, no smartness though, wife had a Google home screen in her office and the kids have google home minis in their rooms to control lights and music with voice
do you know which protocol the symfonisk speak? DLNA? Chromecast? Airplay?
They do AirPlay and dlna i believe
Because I can do Plex with them
And Spotify directly
And since they are Sonos you can do some fun automatic grouping thing based on movement
So sound follows you around
Part of the idea would be to not use spotify directly since that's kinda annoying to transfer between clients
oh right. They have the sonos multiroom stuff
Though iirc. sonos is on the bad children list due to some weird update that removed features thing?
also MA insisting on running on a L2 network with the players... 😦
could yea
even if it were a normal chat, your chances of just popping in and seeing others discuss use cases and automations would have been very low, or require a lot of scrolling back. There's no reason you can't start your own topic with the exact thing you are asking about in #1284966915055288530 , and then see who comes in to participate and share over time, giving you the "normal" discussion you are seeking. You only need some patience.
Long time no see 😎
(if the joke is too brutal i apologize, the author of that is right there above ^ 🙂 )
Jerry was a zigbee user.
Recognized immediately 🙂
maybe that's true for the high-volume channels. But forums absolutely killed discussions in the low volume channels
this scrolling is something I did all the time, not anymore
That was the the name of my 3d printer earlier
Its been living on my home work table ever since i received it 😄
Slowly again resurrecting my infra, i recall my HA installation (of course on Raspi) is something like early 2022 version 😄
@static schoonerdidn't you say at one point you disassemble your LR3 at one point and had to figure out how the magnets went back in?
No, I read about the magnets, but I've never had to do anything with them
I found an article that talks about it. I forgot all about them and sure as hell they fell out lol
glad they don't use those on the lr4
The foot on one of the weight sensors of my 4 keeps getting wedged and it only registers the weight of one of my cats. Quite annoying
It detects the other cat and cycles, but doesn't record a weight
Grr:
Greetings friends. Can I do automated operations with the assistant with Prowlarr or Radarr etc. What is their actual function on the home assistant as an add-on?
I set up a camera there to prove that the other cat is going
Please post in #1284966582375813201
wedged by what?
It just gets stuck and doesn't move freely
whats crazy is the ammonia the urine produces will rust metal anywhere on the units and yet they don't account for that with nothing lol
I took the whole sensor apart and I think the legs on the foot are splayed out and getting stuck
I don't know for sure that hats what's causing the weight issues, it I've also had this unit report that the weight sensors were active for too long and I need to reset the robot
didn't see anything weird when you took apart the sensor?
I haven't had to mess with mine yet. not sure whats involved. only looked at them while installed
yea but refering to the sensor itself, not the foot
Nothing out there of the ordinary. Some of the epoxy where the wires are attached was worn away
It's just a white load cell and the foot has some legs that clip onto it from behind and a post that presses on it
Pretty simple. The other three feet move freely
well as I stated above the ammonia fumes from the urine wreck havic on all kinds of crap on those units. I would suggest taking the weight out of the liner and rustoleum that the next time you deep clean lol
It's pretty easy to get litter wedged up in the gap around the foot
guess still not under warranty?
I need to hunt down the screws they use on the globe. two of them snapped from corrosion as I took the LR3 apart
Ordered back in 2022 and it has a 1 year warranty
You weirdos and your 1 year warranty
we extended ours
and since I have 4 units on one account I just use whichever warranty that's still active for the others
We just get 5 years from the get go by law
yea so no market for auto litter boxes in the land of the pallas cat that will eat your face off
That's a thought. I just got another one a couple of months ago
a small kitty!
yea they don't check or anything. our first liner replacement they sent an entire globe lol
think they wised up to that tho cause our second one they just sent a liner
and they changed the liner to require a plastic clip to hold in the weight and didn't send the clip
that made me a little upset
That is an american bobcat. Quite a bit larger than the average housecat.
White girl energy. 🤣
How much is gas in Misery now @forest edge last i was state side it was $1.95, but we were at $8.3 per gallon at the time but now we are at $6.7 per gallon
@static schooner should you ever need them. pretty sure they are the same for both LR3 and LR4 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GDYBX9O
Many years ago, when I still had a full head of hair, and less belly fat, I had an ATV. I encountered a wild bobcat during my many travels in said ATV... She was not happy to see me. And she had babies. I noped right tf outta there.
Pretty sure that is a norwegian gaupe (lynx)
The bobcat (Lynx rufus), also known as the wildcat, bay lynx, or red lynx, is one of the four extant species within the medium-sized wild cat genus Lynx. Native to North America, it ranges from southern Canada through most of the contiguous United States to Oaxaca in Mexico. It is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List since 2002, due to i...
Bobcat is a lynx.
like $2.87 or something
We just call them gaupe, which apparently is a Eurasian lynx
Just disassembled and reassembled both back sensors. The only thing I can tell that's different is that the foot on the dodgy one has definitely worn some of the white coating off of the load cell around where the wires entire it, so it's been moving around. I'll get in touch with support if the issue continues
Attachment of the foot to the sensor looks identical on both
Some litter did get in there and I cleaned it out, but it could have caused some damage
It's weird that it's just the one cat. And it had no problem with that cat until I added a heavier one using the same unit
missed the conversation, talking about autmated litter boxes?
Yes, litter robot
I've had good luck with chinese knockoff 2 years trouble free 3 cats
Catlink
when I bought it was 30% of the price of litter robot
went up 150 bucks since I bought it, depressing
With the Catlink App, cat owners may obtain a 24-hour record, a 7-day/12-month health report, and remotely manage the self-cleaning litter box at any time. Additionally, multiple users can share a single litter box at once. The litter box's radars, infrared sensors, and anti-pinch features guarant...
I've had so many others over the years that I didn't want to mess with an off-brand. Whisker support is pretty good and their products are good quality (once they sorted out their firmware)
Understandable
that does look like a knockoff
oh it most definately is
and the cat looks drugged
wow, the updated version costs more than the Litter Robot
I know
well, looks like they have a $150 coupon, so like $50 less
To many electronics for my tastes
Mine tells me when its full, who poops and pee's(really dont' care about that either)
LARGE SPACE & DRAWER - 70L robot cat litter box internal space allows cats to turn around more easily. The large 13L capacity waste container supports nearly 20 days of no-scooping, and the included waste bags can be used for up to 1000 days for one cat
At first, I thought it was saying that you didn't have to clean it for 1000 days
oh that would be rank
20 days is still quite a while
Honestly we reuse the bags (dump them into kitchen garbage when it goes out and we don't due the deoderizer because honestly it doesn't smell
Its more like 4-5 with 3 cats(we have 2 of the litter boxes but they mainly use one)
4-5 when the full annoucement goes off, its usually only 50-60% full though
Local pet store sells a self cleaning one for 600 euro ish
For that money I would expect it to give the cat a full wash and shampoo every time it went for a shit
I nearly died
No need for a litter box, if you train them to use the toilet and to flush afterwards.
I know our currency is really in the shitter right now, but a LR4 (which isn't even in stock, so you can't actually have one at any price) is listed at $1775 NZD. (excl tax, USD$930, €810).
I was pondering the upgrade (now that they've ironed out the bugs with the weight tracking), but at that price, not so much
My mums cat would use the toilet but not flush
Anyone unable to create a new issue in core repo?
We used to have a fluffy one that would end up with more shit on its arse than in the litter box though
Male cat you say?
Female, just too much of a fluffy arse I guess
It is a chore cleaning, but I am not sure if it is a 600 euro chore
Maybe if you have 600 cats
How hard can it be to make one for less money?
I guess it's related to this? https://www.githubstatus.com/history
GitHub's Incident and Scheduled Maintenance History
And not the fluffy shit-arsed one, but she was great to cuddle with

Lots of yellow and blue, doesn't look great
We've had our LR3 for nearly 5 years already, gotta take the long-term view. If you'd otherwise have to scoop manually twice per day that's only €0.16 per poop interaction
they're so much more convenient and so much less messy than a regular catbox
They also save litter
Idk man, they better fix it pronto
They control the odour better too. Love ours.
update on the blue dongle saga
this is actually a CSR 8510, don't waste your money on amazon just get this
JJINGER Mini USB Bluetooth CSR 4.0 Adapter Dongle for Windows 10 8 7 Vista XP 32/64 Bit Linux. Device Type: Bluetooth 4.0 Dongle Adapter. 1 x USB 2.0 Bluetooth 4.0 Dongle. ->Compatible with Windows 10, 8 and Win 7/ Vista / 2000 / XP and Linux OS.It seamlessly gets plugged into a computer/laptop without blocking surrounding USB ports.
usb 3-2.2: Product: CSR8510 A10
Bluetooth: hci0: CSR: Setting up dongle with HCI ver=6 rev=22bb
Bluetooth: hci0: LMP ver=6 subver=22bb; manufacturer=10
Bluetooth: MGMT ver 1.22
Did you use the approved bluetooth adapter list?
i did read that yes, but most of the brands on that list are no longer for sale
Mainly asking is if you did then and the adapter didn't work maybe it needed to be updated is all
i ordered a tp-link 4.0 that used to be a CSR 8510 but they sent me a revision with a realtek instead
gonna send that back
Yeah I see my adapter I bought on amazon isn't for sale anymore :/
this is the adapter you DON'T want, they switched the chipset to a realtek BT 5.x https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/usb-adapter/ub400/
hci0: RTL: examining hci_ver=0a hci_rev=000b lmp_ver=0a lmp_subver=8761
Bluetooth: hci0: RTL: rom_version status=0 version=1
Bluetooth: hci0: RTL: loading rtl_bt/rtl8761bu_fw.bin
I bought an "Orico" branded one for about $12 from a local bricks and mortar PC store, was a CSR5810
the realtek one would kill itself after a few hours, i had to make a loop that reset it every 30 mins
pretty much exactly what the manual says
sudo modprobe -r btusb && sleep 10 && sudo modprobe btusb reset=1
is csr8811 bad too?
sorry not actually looking at anything, but something poped up when I searched for my out of stock adapter
if it isn't realtek or broadcom it's prob good
"If it isn't broadcom it's prob good" is a rule you can apply to almost every product category broadcom operates in
What if there is cheap bluetooth on the other side?
just gonna say it's really nice to be able to set the dining room lights to automatically turn off after an hour, to counter my housemate always leaving them on :P
We all have our blindspots, HA helps cover them
Turn off after 15 minutes
“You’ve had enough”
anyone have anything bad to say recently about Govee lights? Ive noticed that almost all the amazon pages for them now say "frequently returned"
the 3 strips i currently have are still running fine, but i recently installed their recessed ceiling lights (new build, no power yet to test), curious if theres been complaints
Their space heaters have been recalled.
some things can be a little annoying about em.. but they do (for the most part) just work
i dont need a lot of functions, just on, off, color
if you're using outdoor lights my advise is..
the controller is not actually fucking waterproof.
Common L with cheap lights
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1V6G21S this is the ones i got
just not in all the right places to actually functionally waterseal it.
It's especially fun when the cable is also far too short (and not detachable) so it can't possibly not be outside
they are in my new build living room
my assumption for why those are frequently returned is probably related to how weird recessed light stuff can be
like.. it looks like 4" because it uses a bulb for that size.. but nope its 5/6 or etc I imagine
yeah i had my electricians install them
🤷♂️
that stuff is more about what you're comfortable with/whatever is currently in the ceiling and etc..
new build house too
more that these were supposedly compatible with the govee tv backlight thing
i mean.. its more just its all integrated with govee's stuff
which isn't good or bad.. it just is
... and if you really wanted you could probably open them and force it to be regular esphome too. 😄
true
main thing though is i just wanna make sure theres not some super flaw i didnt notice cause its WAYYYY to late to return
I bought them when the project started in jan
nah.. but since new build I presume you already have whole-house surge suppression going
which should take most of where failures eventually tend to come from.. unstable power.
oh yeah 100% new and pro installed power box and breakers
they did a damn good job
I have enough exp to know when shoddy work, but not enough to do it all myself
these 4 lights have their own breaker
I mean.
that's probably wild overkill. 🤣
lighting for the room
if I could do a new build all myself I'd probably put low-voltage wiring to all my lighting boxes too.
that's still hilarious overkill 😄
my PC outlet has its own breaker, now thats OVERKILL
its more that each rooms lighting and plugs each have their own breaker set
yeah the plug circuits is normal
code is the lowest
we met or exceeded code on every bit of this house
I have them split to per room because its a smart home, and plan to be editing or changing out things
mind you with a panel and bit of service-loop on wires in boxes.. it'd be trivial to have it be switchable later.
insulated concrete forms, or?
this is the stuff you put in boats to make them float
wood frame house
just spent 5 grand on insulation
it'll pay off if you live anywhere even slightly cold...
can be 48C outside, and the inside could stay 20C without the AC unit on all day
🙃 my family's current house was built up in the 2000's...
.... it has like R12/R14 or something insulation
and it fucking shows.
im at r56
🙂
its so sealed the AC unit requires a dedicated intake because the house doesnt really breath
I mean thats a heat exchanger unit in most modern houses..
or active ventilation/whatever
my dads house across the driveway doesnt need one, the attic has enough built in flow
my attic is climate controlled
not even terribly cold outside when I took this
thermal cameras are fun. 😛 (and useful for some issues/etc)
oh agreed
i bought one and checked the whole house
annoyed my builder but i wanna spend almost nothing to cool this place
still trying to convince the family to
install a god fucking damn heat pump
but nah, they much prefer the route of buying bullshit to go on the deck/etc that will get used 3 times a year every other year or something.
lol
heat pumps are awesome
we paid extra to have one installed
this house should be SUPER efficient
like everything is led, the painting was picked to help reduce heat, and all the windows and doors are high efficiency rated
only thing that could do more would be masonry walls, but thats another like 8 grand we didnt want to spend
so went with thicker foam and concrete board siding
and put smart wire systems into most of the wiring
you think thats bad
try getting a set of EMF meeters to check your house wiring for problems
oh i did
eh I have smart power strip things that do it. 🤷♂️
i wired up everything and found every bit insulation damage, every badly wired outlet
these things; mostly.. but older modelss on ebay because they don't wear out like old style surge strips do. https://www.ametekesp.com/surgex/envision-ic/envision-ic-120-208v
EMF is ANY leakage
there will always be leakage.. Unless you're running metal conduits 😛
i have one of these from a previous job: https://www.mitchellinstrument.com/extech-480846-emf-meter.html
was EOD for demolition
I double checked the detonation wires and such for explosive demo jobs
checked wireless signal strength to ensure any wireless detonators wouldnt get blocked by the building
and built in repeaters when needed
so lame no fun plunger smh.
I used to be able to tell you what every single function and button on these types of panels did
was a GREAT summer job
but yeah
was fun whipping that EMF meter out and the electrician actually knowing what it was
he quickly before i started reran a few lines
i lested those lines after, nothing major was wrong with them but the insulation was damaged on them a bit
Well, I bit the bullet, moved my HA instance to a VM hosted on proxmox. Generally the directions worked, there's a helper script that makes it pretty easy. The biggest issue I found was the USB passthrough / permissions. There's no one way/solution, but find the right device and pass it through as the USB port itself, then be sure to find the permissions and set them to allow the world to write to it the device file.
lsusb will tell you which USB device. and in proxmox you will see the device name detected .
I was able to make more of the servics I wanted to collapse on to this system be done in LXC containers, rather than add-ons in HA for things like Plex.
So, I now have 2 machines collapsed onto one, and a LOT of breathing room. I probably could put the whole workload on that N100 with 16GB of RAM. I don't think I'm up for another build right now though.
Good morning,
I was wondering where the new device database is discussed. I wrote
https://community.home-assistant.io/t/definitive-guide-to-weather-integrations/736419
and since it is a pretty popular guide, I wondered if services could be included.
There are a bunch of weather integrations to choose from and everyone you’ll ask will have a different opinion about which one to choose. Let’s break down the options where they shine, where they fall short and help YOU choose the perfect fit for your smart home. So, grab your metaphorical raincoats (or sunscreen, depending on the forecast)...
cc @blazing forge
heeeey Jaap! yes yes, we have #1361754948949512203 open to anyone interested in the topic, plus I'll be asking your feedback as soon as we start with the details
Thanks. I messed that chat when scrolling through the many channels
(you also need the developer role which I just gave you)
hey guys, i'm looking at making my own server and domain (so i can have all my things in a domain that i can give to people to use) and i have some questions around it and email domains and whatnot - i know that it's not HA related but i figured that some people here would have already done this - does anyone have any suggestions on a subreddit to put this on? all my research is coming up with something like selfhosted, but i don't want to self host my emails so not sure if there's anything better to use?

Most of what you want to know is going to be answered by /r/selfhosted. For the bit about using a real email provider with a custom domain... well, check the docs for your current email provider to see if you can use a custom domain.
yeah, don't selfhost email. I use google workspace for email hosting on my domain and i am pretty happy with it
yeah, i want to still have access to google account related stuff but aren't sure what my options are and what the costs are, so wanted to get some options and ideas
You've been presented with the best (and only reasonable) option. Stay with good provider, set up custom domain.
i have the cheapest "starter" package and it works for me. it costs 6 GBP a month for 1 user/inbox and that's enough for me. if you want some extra storage and stuff you an get a more expensive package.
i have also set up a email thing for someone using the microsoft 365 thing and that works just fine too
for the rest - get a domain name you like. then decide if you want to host other services at cloud companies or at home. if at home, check if your isp offers static ip address for your router.
if you cannot get a static ip then use something like duckdns. then set up the services you want to access at home as CNAME records in your own domain that point to the duckdns name. set up port forwarding in your home router redirecting ports 80 and 443 to a proxy that uses the hostname in the url to redirect internally.
that's pretty much it
or you skip duckdns and friends and just update the dns record directly. With most major ns providers it's a two line curl
not all dns providers are happy with short ttl outside of ddns subdomains. but if you find one with ddns and also offering a name you like ..
major ones seem fine in my experience, especially as dns servers somewhat ignore ttl for caching purposes
Who're y'all using for domains these days? I was on Gandi but they jacked the prices up, moved to Porkbun who seem to support everything I need.
I register my domains at Hetzner. But I'm using Cludflare for DNS.
netcup runs a lot of discounts so you end up paying 1.40 for a .de over a year
I have a stupid tld (.guru)
I've been on Joker since forever, haven't ever done any comparison between other registrars
I initially wanted to use Google Workspace when i retired my own hardware (with domains, emails, everything) on a datacenter but it was no longer available (as in, free as it used to) for my existing account(s). Lazy as i am, i just created one more account and redirected all the domain emails to this account. I use a lot of custom addresses for services i sign up into, easy to see who leaked my address for spammers and block.
For email Migadu is a really affordable option for multiple inboxes.
I love how all of those services and sites sound like made up these days

"Yea of course I have all my sites with bubbles but they recently got bought by slurp.ee and will rebrand to nXt$ite"
At least they don't sound NSFW in the local language like some website provider.
hot-web-deals-in-your-area
i am so glad my server borked, had lost interest to tune postfix, spamassassin and all that stuff long ago already. It was fun while it lasted, then it became a plain burden
Mailcow looks promising, but haven't tried it yet.
Exactly! And if and when you set it "perfectly" once and then don't touch it for years, there is again loads of learning curve on how things work, especially if its not something you do for a living
self hosting mail is almost impossible these days. 90% of users are on google or MS sites, and MS at least is pretty strict about only accepting mail from "reputable" sources. I host an art gallery site and we run into constant issues with password reset e-mails failing to deliver, even though we've whitelisted ourselves with MS multiple times, and gone through every verification step they've asked for
at this point I'm considering something like sendgrid (though maybe not them, as they just got breached) to deliver mail, even though we only send a few messages a week currently
Self hosting email is for two kinds of people, people who have no idea what they are doing, and 90 year old Unix admins
Protonmail just handles my email domain for me
As a 90 50+ year old Unix admin, I no longer self-host email. It is too much of a hassle.
I had it running in Kubernetes for a few years, then found Fastmail and decided to pay them to do the thing.
what about self hosting an email server on a raspberry pi, what kind of person is that?
Someone who never gets email?
Speaking of which, my brand new microsd just failed after a week for BirdNET-Pi - gonna lose all the birdmails :/
this is why we dont use sd cards around here 🙂
I use them for my drone, and in a USB A/C thing to pretend to be a flash drive
I do get the sarcasm here, wasn't my plan to be on top for long but first had to give a test spin and see where to mount external storage.. Seems two days wasn't enough (or rather, was 😄 ), ohwell
No need to bring people with mental dysfunction into this
im gonna do it, just to piss you off
Shooting yourself in the knee to piss someone off is quite the dysfunction
yeah to be fair for a 2 day test run you would expect an sd card to be fine most of the time
Oh hi
We’re proposing to stop supporting two installation methods officially:
- Home Assistant Core (running directly in a Python environment)
- Home Assistant Supervised (running the full stack on your own operating system)
Additionally, we’re planning to discontinue official support for two older architectures:
i386(32-bit x86)armhf(32-bit ARM hard float)
Want to share thoughts before it’s official? Read more about it and let us know 👇
Nice. No more supervisor
But I like supervised! Though I guess I can just go haos
I don't like it
I like it even less in containers
Makes them behave in messy ways
S6 is kinda ok, but also has some corner cases
Oh nvm don't mind if it's not officially supported, I wouldn't want to inflict my supervised setup on someone to get help
I'd just nuke and pave (like I've done in the past)
Yuck supervision
Wait, wasn't Docker the recommened way? Everyone told me to do that!
Base Docker is fine
Oh, I missed the "stop" don't mind me
You're not gonna be th only one misreading this lol
Yes. And docker isn't getting axed
I will have to look into it when my litter box tidier moves out 🤣
Core and Supervised are also not going to be axed (they are used for development), Just not officially supported.
They are dead to me!

Core user here... 🥶
we know they don't exist
...

That's no TV - it's a space station.
its a red hat red hat!
It is
A red red hat hat.
I only use it for monitoring, so I don't tilt my head much
It rotates through 5 tabs
And sometimes it runs for loops when I need to do it outside my computer but still monitor it
What size are the bottom 3 monitors? I used to swear by multiple monitors but now I find it easier working with one ultrawide... almost looks like you have multiple ultrawides 😂
We transitioned from 4 regular sized monitors to 2 ultrawides at work.
24" 4k
I hate ultrawide
If I could have 6x24" I'd be happy
all i can see is that god awful hat
It's a RedHat
A red red hat hat
a red redhat fedora fedora hat

Fun fact, I got it at vmworld
2015
But I put it on whenever I have meetings with redhat
Always makes them laugh
Luckily I have yet to deal with them
question has anyone used rodret ikea zigbee dimmer switches with ha i dont want help with them i just want to know if they work with home assistant before i buy one that i need
I'm using those with ZHA.
thanks its good to hear that they work fine with ha i was hopping to use them as a normal light switches for my lights in my room ( yes i know they are dimmers but their small form factor was perfect for me )
holy hell taking apart the LR3 globe fully and putting it back together is a pain
it really is. the liner is a pain in the neck to seat properly
well I had thought it coming apart in 4 quadrants would make it easier to deal with. boy was i wrong lol
safe to say this will be the last time that thing ever gets taken apart
the seam between the two halves causes me trouble. It tends to get caught on the sliding standoffs and cause an over torque error
ea it has one gliding tab, it needs more on both sides
to align them and keep them level
I've been trying to fix it in various different ways by applying zipper lube to the textured track and putting packing tape over the seams
it sorta works, but it's not a great design
could epoxy your own added guide on both halfs if you ever have to take apart again
the thing is has is just a a tab that slides between two pieces of plastic
Plus, the bonnet can get deformed if you don't get all the tabs into the right slots, which can also cause the globe to bind up because two of the sliding posts are on the bonnet
took me forever to figure out why it was sometimes binding up and stopping mid-cycle
I have none of those issues with the LR4
yea that globe is easy
I really like the handle they added to pull it out
i can get gross
it's a bit more important on the 4 because the round portal in the front prevents you from just grabbing the globe from there
it would be more awkward
the LR4 with the dodgy weight sensors has stopped recording any weight at all after I removed and reinstalled the sensors, so I guess it's time to call support
I was there in 2008 or 2009, they did not even accept credit card for taxi, cash only.. France..
Hey guys!
I have a quick question for zigbee users -
I have a sonoff usb dongle as a coordinator and a bunch of sonoff sensors connected to it. All works fine, couple sensors are outside so the LQI and RSSI aren't great.
Today I added a sonoff smart zigbee socket and it acts as a router. The thing is, that the socket is right next to the actual main coordinator. I see in ZHA some path of some sensors have switched from the coordinator to the socket router and the LQI and RSSI became almost perfect (255 and -35 dBm) on the ones that connected to the socket router including the sensors that are outdoors
Is it really possible that the socket router somehow extends the signal so much more than the dongle coordinator?
so am i going to have to sacrifice my raspi for haos :/
why
its already been running sluggish
it is only 2gb but wont running it in a container lower performance
(currently I am upgrading HA and hacs is causing startup to stop so i'm disabling it for now but, yeah)
Pis are just toys. Don't run anything serious on them.
Get an NUC or micro PC or whatever you want to call them.
They do run homeassistant about alright
Just keep backups for the SD cards to die ^^
hmmmm
i gues my mom's old laptop is becoming problematic because of windows (lol), maybe i can install linux, make a super low power thing and use that? idk
Maybe you can move this to a support channel... idk
im just ranting for now but i might
Don't listen to this guy lol
ugh now discord is sending emails about new features for sale...
yeah osmethings up with my install, ill bein support tomorrow. :P
Discord has really gone down the shitter recently
Question for people using Z2M... is there a way to "freeze" the map? I switched to a Sonoff dongle from deCONZ and the Z2M map is essentially unusable. With deCONZ you could move nodes around and they would stay where you left 'em. Z2M's map is constantly bouncing all over...
Or... am I using it wrong? User error? If so, how are you using it?
What's the deal with power monitoring sockets and fridges? Aside from the "switch" component, why are they electrically a bad idea?
No one understands that docker is.. Not a vm and the performance can virtually be native within something like 5mb of extra ram used and some extra storage
Even when you throw some NAT networking in the mix your network output is forever going to be low enough that you will never notice.
Then what is it? A fancy chroot?
Hey I just want to make sure I'm not going nuts. But is the new Areas thing automatically using the mushroom cards over the stock?
Mushroom is the new black
#1284966617670881350 with the zigbee tag.
Hi all - sorry if this has been asked ad nauseum. Is there a bot/way to search the channels? I'm trying to work out if anyone has some good guides on setting up a Waveshare 7" touchscreen ESP32-S3 - want to use LCARS eventually but for now I'm just looking for initial setup/connection to HASSIO etc. Currently it just boots into LVGL v8 Demo dashboard and unsure if I should reflash it with something like I have my house light switches with Tasmota... or where to begin really.
will hiding sidebar elements on a per user basis ever be natively baked into home assistant?
If I bought MOES zigbee roller shade can I control it without a hub?
Maybe if it has a physical button. But you need a hub if you want to use it remotely
The new Tile cards are effectively the evolution of Mushroom. Believe the person who made Mushroom works for Nabu Casa now.
Linux and the cage app running a vnc viewer connected to a fast 24/7 server making any device a usable desktop.
ah yes, the age of VDI is here
are you running from sd card? if so, swapping/paging will really kill performance. sd cards are really bad at random i/o and anything not using their preferred block size. a2 class cards are better than others, but not good.
i have been running my haos on a pi 4b 24/7 for years. it's a 4gb model and with a bunch of addons i see it hovering around 2gb used. i can imagine a 2gb model getting to be problematic.
back when i also ran node red i migrated my os from sd card to a good memory stick first, and got a huge performance boost. then i bought a cheap usb to sata cable and migrated to a 128gb ssd and saw even better performance. now i have deleted node red as ha has gotten good enough on its own over the years but i will keep it running from ssd.
i like having my home automation running completely standalone. i plug it directly into my isp router to make sure no errors elsewhere in my home network affect automations.
WOOO I got full ha local controls now!
I feel like it’s counter intuitive to not be using a Swapfile
just make sure that if you run from sd card you never need to use it 😄
well later I will disable swap then ig
And everything else that reads/writes from your SD card. Then you'll be safe.
Or just do the sane thing... use an NUC.
While point of a Raspi for me is kind of to act like a NUC 😂
I also like to use Fisher Price tools instead of Black and Decker tools
White and Roofer for me thanks
a pi is a perfectly fine nuc as long as you get it off that sd card. sd cards suck as boot drives
I already recently bought a SSD for my Wii U and currently now is not s good time to buy electronics 😅
not if you are in that country
