Yes, and as I mentioned, I read it multiple times. And multiple times it says "write the Home Assistant Operating System disk image to your boot medium" - and then has no links to it
you can hover over it, and click "Learn More" and it just tells me about it - still no links to the image
Please post there
Seriously? I don't understand why I need a whole thread for a someone to simply post a link
Yes, seriously
if you not happy to read all info clearly publish and wanna do anything: https://github.com/home-assistant/operating-system/releases/ good luck
Perverse effects of creating an easy system, most of people no longer take the time to read doc
Too late. They chose to leave this Discord instead of creating a post in the right thread.
He may have realized that the information was on the page he was reading.
I like how Valetudo hypfer deal with this kind of request
that's one way to handle the congestion!
Why is no one selling a esphome doorbell with camera? Lots of howtos but no sale.
because diy cam modules generally suck
people tend to just buy something that works once they spend a buncha money i would guess
huh, Z2M had a weird thing right now
had a light unplugged for a while and now that it came back up it wenth through all changes in colour sent to it over the last couple hours in rapid succession
nice lightshow though π
Dont wake up your lights so abruptly.
ah yes, should have put it on a dimmable socket and slowly upped the voltage
You wouldn't want to be woken up and given hundreds of tasks in the morning either
Sounds like me before a morning coffee
I really wanna swap my bedroom lightswitch for a dimmer switch. Problem is, it's a no neutral switch, and my only option is kinda expensive for my broke butt ...
I could use smart bulbs I suppose...
Look into GE cync
see that stuff at walmart all the time. hard to get any cheaper than that lol
and needs no neutral
Yeah. I guess.
As an aside, I've found that my cheap sengled wifi bulbs actually can get super dim if you set the brightness using 0-255 instead of 1%-100% .. my sengled porch lights seem to work all the way down to 4/255....
Whereas with percentages, at 1% it could've been set from anywhere around 10 to 30, depending how it felt. π€£
Doesn't shelly have good no neutral options?
Except relays don't fit behind all my switches. This house is a converted mobile home. Some added on parts are standard thickness walls, but not the master bedroom.
It was originally just an old single wide trailer, but has had several walls knocked out and additions added, plus a roof over the entire thing, so the crawlspace between the ceiling and the roof is basically inaccessible as well. It really limits what one can do to the interior. :/
With a bit of work everything can fit π
Sounds like a case for tv smart my home
Yeah, but at that kinda budget level, I'd just bulldoze the damn place and build it how I want it.
Reolink support - is just the absolute worst. No one probably cares, but I just had to let that out.
It's almost an acre and a half, in a decent area, and I'm 5 minutes from a major east-west highway. And we paid only 50k for it all. So .. yeah.
I need more like 500k to buy anything here
That could pay for a lot of drugs
So it was cheap because it's hard to travel north/south?
Nah, it was cheap because the people selling it had no clue what it was worth, and didn't use an agent. The place just 3 or 4 houses down from us is listed for 200k.
Ours is admittedly, a slightly smaller lot, but not by that much. Theirs** is 1.6ac and ours is 1.4ac (ugh, autocorrect is a @#$# sometimes)
Yeah, sometimes a bit of market knowledge and a good agent can make a huge difference.
Not quite the same difference in price but another property on the same street as us sold at almost the same time for about 15% more than the one we bought.
Same plot size. Same overall building style (ours had some remodelling done). Ours was probably done up a bit nicer overall (new kitchen, well-decorated, etc).
We couldn't have afforded more, so we're really lucky that whoever bought the other one missed out on this. Otherwise, we probably would've been outbid.
I see a dog in the clouds!
yes
hi guys i jjust installed home assitant using chatGPT XD causei had nothing better to do i am currently on my make a user phase is there something i should know?
why bother asking here or using the walkthroughs; just ask chatgpt? π
bruh
indeed, I suggest following the actual instructions for installation and setting up
Thereβs no support here - only chill. Come in, grab a drink, chat with your fellow community members! This is a space to talk to other smart home enthusiasts. If youβre looking for support and unsure where to go, check out https://discord.com/channels/330944238910963714/1284968640189304913 - it should help you find where you are going. No politics, religion, or any other obviously contentious topics! Please ensure you've read the Code of Conduct (https://www.home-assistant.io/code_of_conduct/), and #rules.
but chatgpt helped me alot during the installation
No idea why chatgpt would need to help at all, it's just following steps ^^
One of the documentations that needs the least attention
That's fine, but please try following the instructions if you need more detail
and if you have actual questions, #1284966540617449515 is the place
uggg we are going to have an entire generation of people who can't function by simplying learning to read and research
It's quite funny tbh
yep.
Lol as if the current generation is doing that
The gen that told you to worry about things online doesn't worry at all. And those that come after do neither
all while claiming it works fine.. because they never learned to actually.. verify,.. anything..
I mean I get it, I find answers using google for problems I can't solve, but at least I take the time to look
no and they're the ones who tend to be the most credulous fucking rubes too.. π
Did you ask ChatGPT? is the new "Did you Google that?"
Sonoma is exhibit A of why old does not necessarily mean wise

.... yells at jira? π€£
no need to yell at Jira, just file a ticket
yea, friends don't let friends use jira
Never heard of Jira, looks like a micromangement software
could be worse.
could be the dumb project management/source tracking software a professor in my college forced us to use
was like "What if we bundled git and a self-hosted wiki page into the same product" ish
we have a homegrown one
... also known as ass.
it's actually kinda decent
Atlassian has really cornered the market on corporate tools
Are you sure? I've seen a lot of tools.
they have their fingers everywhere
I'm just surprised at the tools that end up coming from Atlassian
I know some people want to use Jira in the future
but I'm not sure we actually want to do that...
that sounds like
"I want to get in bed with something that broadcom bought"
I didn't mind using Jira for project tracking. It wasn't terrible
I just hope github issues level up to the point where we can use those π
yea, Jira is more of a framework than a product either way
I disagree. sure they ask you to jump through some hoops prior to replacement etc but that's just logical.
solution: get cameras even cheaper than reolink but are fairly hackable.
(re: ssh is on and root is known..)
accurate
Hank Hill would have no use for raccoon filiment

What's that
It runs Graphene on it.
People still 'customize' their phones in 2025? Lol
i run LinageOS on mine, have been running it on phones for a few years now
Nevermind, I'm going back to Stock Android
I swear, my HA is magic - often when I go downstairs, my TV turns on. I have, as far as I know, no sensors that could pick up on that..........I KNOW I don't have any scripts or automations for turning the tv on - freaks me out
I'm scared π¦
It just wants you to watch ads
Have you installed spook?
lol probably
I stoppped rooting phones like 6 years ago, only reason I really used to root them was to disable tethering restrictions
Also stopped buying bloated phones
tethering restrictions?
like 5gb's then they cut you off
never had such happen but funky
US Carriers suck
its your fault for not giving them more money (all of it)
Back when I used to care about such things, Paranoid Android was my ROM of choice
That name might bring back some ancient memories for some of y'all
The amount of stuff I do to my Android phones has also dropped with each successive device.
1st phone: built own kernels, actual involvement in ROM development
2nd phone: custom ROM, but no modification
3rd phone: root only
4th/5th phones: absolutely nothing
It was only for ad blocking for me, by the end
But Adguard in "VPN" mode is damn near 100% effective, and doesn't require any screwing about
Same same. Adguard's VPN option is just a VPN that doesn't actually connect to anything.
Quite a clever idea I thought, because unlike proxy/DNS changes, applications can't bypass it.
Lol, my PC just caught a loose Bluetooth packet
Gotta love IoT devices π
Apparently Bluetooth-enabled scent diffusers are a thing. And we definitely don't own one, but someone in the neighbourhood must
yeah, toothbrushes are becoming ccommon to see
Finally made time and effort to fix my RPi bootloader so it could actually update to HAOS 15. Not sure what it changed tbh, but I didn't like being stuck on 14.2.
Honestly, I could see value to being able to schedule the on/off cycle of a diffuser. Not sure I'd ever buy one, but I get it.
I don't know why they need to be electric at all
The ones that are just a bunch of bamboo skewers stuffed into a container of liquid work just fine
If you insist on your house smelling of something

It's probably a heated one. Wax melts or whatever.
...oof. And hello.
Search results suggest this: https://www.oilgarden.com.au/products/smart-diffuser.html
Ah, ultrasonic. That makes sense as well. Though using pure essential oils with one is such a terrible idea.
The reviews indicate it is hilariously terrible:
Though since it says "therapeutic properties", it's built on bullshit to begin with.
Ayup
It seems like for Frigate, cat on furniture == person detected, and I'm afraid that it's making me complacent when I get a notification that there's a person in my family room while I'm away
cat on chair, cat on back of couch, all people
why you have multiple sensors that all have to be active in order to be notifed, "someone is eating your food in your family room"
I guess I could try to pair it with my security system motion detector, which is more discerning
is frigate set up to detect cat as well as person? that way it will pick cat over person based on percentages?
yes
hmm
it just doesn't seem to separate the cat from what it's sitting on
it detects cats on the floor, or laying on the couch
is cat simalar colour to furniture?
upgrade to a dog?
no presence sensors? shame
if you put a blanket over it for contrast does it work as expected maybe? maybe not long term solution but for science
it's currently at 81% person with a cat on the back of the couch
although that also lends it self to dyeing the cats fur a constasting colour. and the rule is "do not harm the cat"
radar sensors that have energy threshold adjustment should be able to filter the cat out
I thought you did the frigate+ stuff?
I do
can't train a new model off the false positives?
have you tried (if your able) to change the camera location? maybe its just a quirk of it
I haven't been doing that because Blake said that the model was really trained for indoor cameras, but yes, I could start submitting false positives
it also captured the same cat as a "person" in a different room with a different camera sitting on a tall chair
in that particular frame it could be the backlighted motif gets too little contrasts on the cat?
@tidal bronze you been scarce lately.. finally eat something that your iron stomach couldn't handle?
Around. Just busy
busy? it's already that 2-year-must-throw-away-everything-and-replace time is it?
That reminds me.
Dye the couch?
Leave the couch alone or VP will get you
Definintely looks like a person to me
a furbaby perhaps
Whens the 2 year throw away and replace for sonoma
Want to see sonoma v2
Maybe with AI
i'm not modren. i don't need replacing every 2 years
i was made back when things were made to last
you know that when you've replaced all your parts, you're still old as dirt, right?
I dunno, its always the old people I see in the doctors and hospitals
they work there
Ah yes back when we thought smoking was healthy and we built stuff with asbestos. People were soooo smart back then.
asbestos is still a really good product for it's intended purpose and still holding strong today
lets nark on stuff that does exactly what it was meant to do just cause human's are weak and don't know how to breathe around it
I guess it was also meant to cause cancer then
its not the first thing that has been used to great effect before finding out its dangers, and its not the last
most stuff that has worked great has gotten banned already tho
It having value in some specific circumstances doesn't change the fact it was dumb to use it in homes and schools
Ever seen someone dying of mesothelioma? I work in healthcare and STRONGLY recommend you avoid it. Nasty way to go
leaded fuel and CFCs for example (which were actually (almost halariously) invented by the same person
well application also plays a role. plenty of commercial buildings around with it still in it with no issues
if you protect and seal it correctly asbestos is still a great way of creating a fire barrier
which lead to ethanol and what a joy that is. that shit use to eat through rubber fuel lines a lot faster than it does now but still corrosive as hell
with the infomation available at the time, using it everywhere was the obvious choice.
Sure, and as long as everyone remembers for all time that it's there then no problem - go right ahead and use it on a submarine or something where every nut and bolt is traced from build to scrap
But in a less strictly controlled setting the problem is that 30 years later the house has been sold 3 times and someone pulls the wall down to remodel, having no idea what it's made of
Yeah I'll agree with that, at the time they genuinely had no idea. But there's like 10-20 years between the problem becoming known and it being banned
yeah these are great points. unless your in very specific circumstances having it now is not good
The real problem IMO is when people discover it and decide the best course of action is to just board/skim over it with plaster and leave it. In the short term that minimises exposure, but the result is that it's even less obvious in future for someone else
You see that advice ALL the time in DIY and home renovation communities - it's vaguely sensible in the short term but SO selfish and dangerous long term
I really hate how selfish those people are, they're literally hiding a death trap to save themself a few bucks today
yeah, the "make it someone elses problem" crowd
you see that alot in high turn over jobs. "looks good for a while then crashes" means "i look good and by the time it crashes its someone elses fault"
Yup exactly. I'd have more sympathy if they at least left it more visible where at least someone in future has a chance of noticing eg the artex walls or the texture ceiling and thinking "Oh, that could be asbestos, I better check"
But when they skim over it to make it look like fresh plaster and physically hide the problem.... wtf is wrong with these people?
do you blame the person that asked the workmen to do it or the workmen that did it because they wanted to get paid
Both
yeah definetly an arguement for that
Agreed, definitely both. Although if you held a gun to my head and said I had to pin it on one then I'd say the owner since they're the one who's responsible for the property
One was an asshole enough to ask for it to be done, the other was a shithead enough not to care as long they got paid for it.
There should be some legal requirement to report it at the time when it's discovered, so that it shows up in the paperwork when you buy the house, with a huge penalty for failure to disclose when made aware
Again, I really can't stress this enough: Mesothelioma is a truly HORRIBLE way to die
I'd probably take it over rabies, ebola, or radiation poisoning but that's about it and at least those are fairly quick... days or weeks rather than slow agonising months or years
i agree
I guess the issue becomes "were you trained to recognise it?"
We have asbestos based chips in our attic floor for insulation. It was disclosed and no one tried to cover it up (not my house, I rent... roommate is the home owner). Research says just don't disturb it, ok. But I'd like to wire in ethernet and power to the main living area from above.... pfft.
And having it replaced via "qualified" options is financially/logistically non optional, so we won't.
yeah maybe that kind of work should be subsidised to encourage its removal.
Not all fuels have ethanol in them though
Most here have no ethanol iirc
Ethanol is how we subsidize farmers π
What if we stopped subsidising corporate oil/fuel making billions hand over fist and gave it to farmers feeding us? Oh right... economy π .
-# status pro quo
again the issue is people, not the product
Hey, bit out of left field, anyone got a good rain sound mp3 for use with looping in music assistant?
Or is there like, a sleep sounds integration?
never used it but theres an addon that does stuff related to background noise stuff
doesnt really help you find the actual audio files mind
if you search you can find a link to grab the ones google uses for their voice assistant
could maybe rip off youtube?
Nice, thanks
gunna bookmark that one myself
pretty sure that's the one i use to sleep. thunderstorms was a little too interesting
grab the samba addon and copy the files over to the share that way
Samba like MS SMB? Not a bad thought, but I am on my android
you got the terminal addon installed? could wget it
Oh neat
The voice PE is super fun, but so many rough edges on aliases to get decent behaviour
its only going to get better
Oh yeah, I am building already a prompt for chatgpt that helps a lot
But weather for instance, woof
yeah weather is one that is tough it seems
i think for things like that MCP is going to be big but it needs time to mature a little
Well that is what I do, multi-agent systems
But without solid and reliable entities I can describe exhaustively once, not a lot can be done
But yeah, MCP could help a lot
Brave new world... has anyone tried openai realtime voice API?
I have played with it a bit, damn freaky. The gemini realtime voice is easier to integrate tool usage with
i havent messed around wtih ai that much tbh. i want tor un something locally but need to upgrade the gpu in my server for that
I use the shit out of OAI already, so no reason not to use it for this
I dream of a cluster of 2 Nvidia H100 but I only have a poor rtx 4070 12gb vram
I've played around a bit with the local LLM 12b max and LLM Vision, but it's nowhere near the equivalent of online AI. I also use it to search for information in document files, but ideally, I'd like a local LLM that knows everything about my home assistant, including my configuration files, calendars, automations, etc.
yeah I would prefer local for this level of access
winning, there's always a way π
I mean, if you have an OAI account, they do not train on your data
Whether you believe it or not? Up to you
Ah hahahahahahaha. Hahhahahaha. Ha. You're a funny guy
They will be doing absolutely everything they think they'll get away with.
they all train on anything they can get their hands on
I will never give my config file and personal agenda to oai
look at meta being like. we just torrented all the books but its fine cos we didn't seed.
i want to see them argue that and on the other side is the music and film industries argueing the opposite
None of that matters, pandoras box is open
openai complaining deepseek stole the shit that they stole
Pontificating about "oofff oh the copyrights" while musk and thiel shove LLMs into every corner of government
"Oh no AI disenfranchises artists" as it is used to create perfect propaganda
just a reminder that we should drift into politics on this server
Oh sorry, I get worked up about piece of shit hackers dismissing AI for stupid reasons
i get it
AI copyright battles will set the scene for what will be one of the biggest copyright battles ever though
There are more than enough reasons to dismiss AI without sinking to its level.
Its output is low quality (borderline dangerously inaccurate), environmentally ruinous, but everyone wants it because buzzword, even if they don't know what or how they want it to work, or even why.
Watching people with 20+ years of experience in ML fields telling engineers from Nvidia that to their faces resulted in borderline over-indulgence in the delicious, delicious schadenfreude.
i think the big copyright battle will be games.
And porn
But we will see, SaaS disruption is about to get nuts
I think when people realize how much enterprise software is being written with o3-mini-high it is gonna blow some minds
games could definetly be seen as work of art. specially the images/audio
currently its in the interest of game devs for people to stream etc... because its publicity
but when a big studio goes bust and some enterprising finance company opts to buy the IP and sue youtube/amazon/every streamer thats ever streamed one of their game. its going to be chaos
I am more concerned with labor impacts
I created that ealier today for my project
100% AI generated
Not the code, the graphic
I would have paid... 15, 20 bucks on fiverrr to create that? Now, a fun little chatgpt session
yeah, short term it will have impacts but long term stuff will work itself out
No, it won't. AGI and Capitalism do not mix, no matter how you define AGI
Capitalism depends on scarcity, and human labor. If you remove either, it falls apart
Or rather, supplant either
The huge gap between rising incomes at the top and stagnating pay for the rest of us shows that workers are no longer benefiting from their rising productivity. Before 1979, worker pay and productivity grew in tandem. But since 1979, productivity has grown eight times faster than typical worker pay (hourly compensation of production/nonsuperviso...
this is getting a bit heavy for here now
Lol, yeah, wait until we hook up robots to our home assistants
what ever happened to that robot thing ring was making
or maybe it was the drone thing, I donβt remember
I know we slowly drifted there and no lines been crossed but we have some common sence limits
Automation has inherent implications, I try and find ways to open hackers eyes to this stuff, but yeah off my soapbox
I am an active maintainer for ag2.ai
So I think a lot about ethical guardrailing. May end up relevant for you guys as voice rolls out
It is super hard to instruct an LLM on what NOT to do, lol
yeah ai hallucinations and it running away with stuff is an issue. another reason i want to go local. i can burn it down if i want π
Local makes everything way harder and crappier, but I will spin something up just to play with it
Anyone with home assistant and hubitat? I have a hubitat but itβs still in the return window seeing if itβs worth keeping. Im running HA through docker on my nas.
if you don't have any real desire to learn HA then those products like hubitat may be better for you. You trade the ability to do far more complex things for easier experience not to mention those things are an all in one and come with built in zigbee/zwave.
How can I get access to wherever this link is pointing? https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/137087#issuecomment-2702342045
I think it's a specific thread that requires some developer role
you could pick those up in id:customize
The support channels don't require a role. Just creating a topic and selecting at least one of the tags.
Oh, it is about the projects channel. That does require the developer role indeed.
Ah thanks!
Fine im starting from scratch without using chatgpt
I am going to use an old laptop and install raspberry pi as a vm
lolwut
I may try installing a water fountain as a VM soon.
I'm pretty sure Digital Ocean use water fountains to provision their virtual servers.
That's where all the droplets come from.
digital ocean is awesome
SC community board is still hosted on the same droplet for like 15 years now or something lol
Please welcome a new member to the family. It's a Psy-Q Mega Drive devkit, something I've been after for the best part of a decade.
I've never seen one boxed before, and I've certainly never seen one with all of the listed package contents.
ISA card, disks, manuals, cables, tech bulletins.

I was planning on learning HA but I donβt have a zigbee/zwave radio so my plan was to use the hubitat for that. And than just pull in all the devices into HA. But now Iβm wondering if Iβm better off just getting a HA green and HA preview edition
keeping it all in 1 system is way better
@trail raven
https://freesound.org/
Tons of free sound effects here, there's almost always something useful
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wa2c.android.cifsdocumentsprovider&pli=1
This app allows you to connect to a SMB share, I can't vouch for it particularly (I only use it to sync roms from my server to my Android retro gaming handheld) but it works
Yep. That's why I've been slowly replacing my wifi Smart crap with zigbee crap. Because let's face it, my budget is "crap" π€£
Although, I do have a couple esphome diy things as well, soo.. maybe not ALL of my wifi crap is getting replaced.
Hubitat is pretty expensive compared to a zigbee dongle, IMO - especially if you specifically want to use HomeAssistant
It's a decent enough standalone option if you just want a smart home and don't specifically want HA, though
@lunar remnant is it all that expensive though, when you consider it has zigbee and zwave in it? A decent zwave stick is about 40 bucks, and the zigbee sticks are around that price, too...
If you're on a budget zwave is not an option
Buy tuya cry too ya
eh thatβs debatable
zooz has cheap stuff on https://thesmartesthouse.com
dimmers go on sale for around $20 sometimes
zwave stuff is like 2x - 3x more expensive than the zigbee alternative. THere is no debate that it's way more expensive
I cant even buy it here because none of the regular shops seem to stock it
It really isnβt way more expensive though. You just have to know where to get it
If youβre not in the US, I wouldnβt recommend it.
I just checked all my regular shops. None of them sell zwave. Just a few specialised home automation shops I can find it
50 euro for a basic light bulb lol
Light bulbs Iβd go zigbee
but stuff like switches I recommend zwave
Zwave light bulbs never really took off
stick to 1 technology. You need the bulbs to create good mesh coverage
they're always repeaters
I donβt think itβs good advice overall to stick to one tech, I get the repeater aspect but you can have way more options if you invest in multiple (local) protocols
sengled enters the chat
^
Another issue are the different regional frequencies used by Z-Wave. You might not be able to use some cheap device, because it isn't using your frequency.
zigbee is so ambiguous by now you have plenty of choices no matter what device you're looking for
no clue about the whole matter thing though, im not following that at all
Zigbee? More like slow aah food heating wave
So, zigbee is better than thread?
Zigbee is mature, well defined, and has many more available devices. Thread is newer, rapidly evolving, and doesn't have all that many devices yet.
Well thats mildly annoying. HA lets you configure your default voice in the assist menu but choosing Piper under the media tab will always default to US/Amy low.
I can't see why anyone would need both zigbee and z-wave. And if you're on a budget the z-wave is gonna be too expensive anyway - you can sometimes get deals but it's it's 2-3x the price of zigbee on average
The nice thing about zigbee and thread, though, is you can normally have both with the same dongle... so you can grab thread when available and zigbee otherwise, at no extra cost
you can do device customization with zigbee2mqtt, I doubt that's the case with matter
The beauty of HA is the ability to mix and match
Last I heard having both on the same radio was a bad idea, so if you want zigbee AND thread, you need a separate dongle for each.
The Multiprotocol functionality will be deprecated in the near future.
My 2.4Ghz by me is a mess, zigbee hasnβt been very reliable for me so I personally prefer zwave for most devices
stuff like light bulbs and certain other things are significantly cheaper on zigbee though so Iβd do that at that point
Lots of existing devices (maybe installed by alarm companies) also utilize zwave which is a benefit since you can reuse them with home assistant
Locks, Switches etc
Is there an issue where the external connectivity stops working for some reason at the mo that anyone knows about? Found my external URL not loading today, reboot ha instance seemed to fix but can't find any reference to a known issue
Can someone help me
I have both.
Some devices are only available for one or the other. Which is annoying, because both being mesh networks, you can't just buy that one battery-operated device and expect it to work well.
Hi, I am confused about how home assistant works with thread and also using Google devices as a thread border router on that network. I have matter server installed so to start with is it even possible to join Google matter devices to the home assistant network instead of the other way around?
Please post in #1284966617670881350
And the raccoon chat on the discord server
What I have read leads me to believe it's not possible and I can only join home assistant to Googles network
Even just a is this possible post? I'm not prepared to provide detailed setup info at the moment
There is only 1 way to find out!
only moral support
And even then β¦ ehhhh
Support deez nuts
From when phone operators were picketing against automation, lol
#announcements message If anyone has questions about the product or the integration you can just send me a message. I'm thrilled to see that we finally have the partnership with Home Assistant β€οΈ
Congrats!
Motion blinds?
Yes ππ»
Thank you
Lovely, nice job and congrations!
I would like to automate some of mine at some point, will have your solution in mind
Thank you very much. Great effort from a lot of people like @tall vessel and the people from Eve.
I need to look at what I'm going to use in my new place for the windows, not sure yet what I want
You have a new place? Congrats π
Yes! In Gouda
But I still need to renovate a ton of stuff
A normal human can't live with 6 power sockets in their living room on this day and age
6 is plenty. Just daisy chain a load of extension cables. Completely safe.
I mean, it's a blank canvas now, so I'm going to make sure it's nice
I have 6 ethernet drops planed for the media corner, 6 sockets in the whole room is rookie numbers!
Also doing some ethernet wires around the place
Well just let me know when I can help with blinds or anything
It is just local, my son literally spams all the mods that look cool, and sometimes it loads π€£
No blinds for Joost. He needs to feel observed.
Our current HA box will be the local server at some point
We can add a camera in a few blinds π
Just for testing purposes
OnlyBlinds
Yeah no problem you came up with the name π

Great. Now remove the ability to remotely close them.
Haha for april fools π
Why that? How are we going to sell it as a fitness device, if people don't have to move?
Fitness means higher price tag for the same device.
Cool picture btw
Anyway, I should continue packing stuff
Thanks, our marketing department gets some really nice content made.
Can you put the sticker on your box now?
\o/ my presentation for yet a other project to save the world is finished.
last slide section is how chatgpt thinks about paradise and my plan checks most boxes
O yea i get a lot of that.
It doesnt matter. that is the great thing of the plan. In i world of how many humans there just need to be a few in the start.
Most of the time people say they don't care and then forward there own none creative (I heard them all. (point of view of religious people is really cold))
no Jorg functional code to track processes in all there truth. perhaps some AI to predict it. and tools like remove your face from images when ever you like.
their own. their truth
replying with gramar errors is a sign of weakness in my point of view. You correct it so that part of the message is 100% correctly transmitted. Just have not the capability to reply any other way.
glad to be of service
Its all about service
well i got to move see you in some time perhaps perhaps not. Ψ₯ΩΩΩ Ψ΄ΩΨ§Ψ‘Ω Ω±ΩΩΩΩΩ°ΩΩ
That's gotta be one of the weirdest takes I've seen in a while.
π
Im just being creative and my own. Why copy if im good enough
Nah itβs fine, you just need the correct firmware so that the dongle is just doing the radio not the coordination
Where the hell did #beta go?
I can get there from that link but it disappears in the sidebar as soon as I leave, what am I missing?
do you have support expanded?
π
Just never noticed it was under support, seems an odd place for it
Whoops
hey folks. This is way off topic, but i need some help. Anyone familiar with blocking website elements in the browser? I broke a website on my computer. π¬
hi
hi! may I assume you're here to help? π (i'll have to give my Q later... it's my son's bedtime.. brb)
Try a html css discord
Pupper has a new bed. He seems unsure so far π
Broke how?
At least he's testing it out
has anyone here setup a raspberry pi connection to h.a? I'm trying to use the 'add integration' but it will not connect
#1284966582375813201 with more info on what your actually trying to do
this is not a support channel
I scrolled down to pihole and filled in the ip etc
create a thread in #1284966582375813201 with your infomation
The main feed doesnβt show up anymore. Was trying to block the suggested elements (who to follow, suggested posts, etc).
Is pihole not in the add on store?
But yeah not support
Ooohhh adguard home from the community addons looks neat
π
Guess what everyone, they've promised smart home integration!
I'm having a blast, can't you tell?
just noticed the topics got reorganized again, and had to post on MQTT. Given this Is an Open Home protocol of such importance (probably the first amongst the ones that Are mentioned...), maybe list it explicitly in the Channel description @lone dagger ?
MQTT is #1284966582375813201
I checked but the description there was not very clear on that. It really should be listed under Protocols imho
If it is neither about the integration nor an add-on, I'd go with #1284966617670881350 and the "Other" tag as last resort.
yes, I picked that indeed, thats why I noticed.
Anybody ever taken power from a light fixture and added USB to it I need to install a mm wave sensor where there is no power convenient to it but my hall light fixture is right there
People in #the-workshop might have a safe solution for that.
Thanks!!
Approved
Does it have an occupancy sensor, yet?
Btw i tested out the pe. Installation wae one of the smoothest i ever experienced
Thatβs a sweet picture
from an article on a politicians recent press conference (quoted because of the raccoon content): "and running from the podium with the grace of a raccoon in a porta-potty."
poor raccoon!
It's pretty amazing that Spitfires could go supersonic and keep up with Concorde.
Is there a general channel where you can talk about home assistant stuff but not necessarily ask for support? Is it this one?
Narrator: it was for support
For showing off there is the #1284960456880029707 channel
It's not quite that degree of showing off though, it's just some silly card usage I thought was a bit funny
It's still self-promotion, and seemingly done without shame
in that case I am ashamed
This channel is just for discussing raccoons stuck in water-based appliances
And nobody feels sorry for the poor sleeping dog, who gets forcefully woken up by turning on the lights out of nowhere?
the lights don't bother her, but she hates my airbrush air compressor
Sure, but that's not what 'shameless' or 'ashamed' mean.
Do you have one in mind I should try?
My wife is tired of my shenanigans. She just helped our neighbor chase her goats down and put them back in the fence, and she complains "I'm too old for this shhh" and of course I respond with a video.. "naahhhhhh you're not!"
Nope. I dont do css html
The caption was something about it only being 34 years or something between the first flight, of each
I love things like this.
That's why HAOS is recommended for Matter/Thread. They did a lot of work for their add-ons to get around issues.
Now to figure out how I make my Unraid docker HA find the Sonoff dongle
discord must have seen how long some of the channel names in this server was and decided they need to make a compact mode
the spammers need to fulfill their weekly quota of spamming
the spam ain't gonna spam itself
Nobody ever expects the spammish inquisition
threatens to break out the spam can
I am so happy that Aqara's stuff is finally starting work well with home assistant over Matter, getting updates and such so I can really get everything up to snuff, without the homekit stuff interfering
Thought I needed thread to get it to work, but apparently not :)
he's here all week, tip jar is at the top
Hello! Didn't know there was an HA Discord server!
Welcome π
Going to work on adding a water level sensor to my big pedestal humidifier this weekend
I love the dangerous power of being able to hook anything I can imagine into HA lol
Hey everyone, I assume the answer will be HA, and that there are support channels, but this is more about a recommendation based on experience, I think HA has gotten good enough for me to be able to configure it either way π
Are there general recommendatiosn for what to use as a border gateway router in my situation given my existing hardware:
I have an existing Google Smart Display (and a few Google smart speakers) over which I have currently set up my matter network, consisting of: Tado thermostats (currently their own matter network with the tado router/bridge), wild assortment of Matter-over-thread light bulbs, hue lights with their matter integration over their bridge and a lot of random other bits and pieces that don't play into it as they are just for playhing around, but stuff from Aqara, Bosch, etc.etc. Similar number of things on Matter-over-wifi (sonoff switches, motion sensors, ...), and lastly some zigbee sensors.
I recently moved and got myself a ZBT-1 after I got annoyed with my first and second gen Sonoff Zigbee stick, and am running HAOS on a Pi5 right now. But given the move, I'm open to setting everything up from scratch.
theres a recomendations tag in #1284966353798697001
top tip though if your using a rpi... dont use an sd card
Already on an ssd, but for sure.
2 more voice PEs on the way. I only had 2 echos, but I want an extra to do dev with
Getting some false positives, so gonna π΅ββοΈ
Still not seeing the HA OS 15.0 update on my HA Blue. Was it pulled?
Like in quicksand?
Or in the middle with .. us?
Yeah its wierd
Passed trough the dongle
it doesnt showup in HA when I choose the thread router addon

FML

Try grabbing a tree branch. Maybe you can pull yourself out?
I guess you're fortunate that you have access to this discord for all the helpful suggestions that you're bound to receive

how many raccoons does it take to install HA?
about 3 fiddy
Gd lochness monsta
Seagate gave me an exact replcacement of my dead drive, right down to the detail that the new drive is ALSO dead.

then maybe it's not the drive?
oh simflame is kind of neat. I like the look of this https://youtu.be/qMCTsAElbbA?si=xENchExWuCXTbA65
It's all fun and games until the neighbours call the fire department because they think your house is on fire
Anyone know how to make a template across these and just type in what they want to send instead of having to copy paste it to all of these? Or is this something I have to put in #find-support?
off chance does anyone know the name of these connectors?
The usb serial is mapped to zha discovery:
No way to differentiate the firmware (at least yet) to say zha or thread⦠to make it even more confusing at some point there may be an option to run zigbee with the same rcp firmware open thread border router works with.
Incandescent bulbs though.
They're sometimes called a "Phoenix connector" but I don't think it's a universal name, and they're available from a lot of manufacturers
Isn't that for people to get help on them?
It is mostly help topics. There might be something in #1284960456880029707
if your looking for suggestions based on a specific idea dashboard support can see people post examples. but isnt really a spam channel of dashboards
This is mine which I feel looks good but haven't seen the possibilities
Hereβs mine
so just got my home assistant green plugged into my network. its not seeing any devices on the iot lan on my router. got a g3100 router from verizon. the quantum gateway integration is allowing me to see the devices but doesn't look like I can do anything with them.
is the easiest solution going to be to just get another and connect everything through that?
oddly though, home assistant did detect my thermostats which are also connected to the iot lan
cant speak for the stuff that does work, but if you have devices on a separate vlan/subnet then you wont be able to access them. having a router integration wont change that. this seems like a network configuration issue.
however this is not a support channel so if you want to discuss further please start a thread in #1284966540617449515
Woah
Does anyone here already use their wearos watch with home assistant?
Many do.
can you maybe help me out in #1355247930881347725 then?
its been a day with no responses so i wanted to make sure if anyone sees it
I'm currently in the process of setting up my home assistant green for the first time, wish me luck
It jumped way up the priority list after notifications from mum hitting the tapo-based 'oh crap help please' button didn't reach my sister or me, so it's time to work out how to get the button to send us both a text message or something asap if mum presses it
Lol. My dad (79 years old) wants security cameras. I you need a local server and dont use cloud.
- I dont want a server
but you surely dont want cloud? - no i dont want a cloud. I want an easy app that works.
Thats cloud you dont want that. You need a server - no i dont want a server
- cant i use a raspberry pi?
No, I am at work.
sorry feel free to take your time then
can always buy reolink i guess to get both
Anyone have any opinions between https://www.twilio.com/en-us and https://textmebot.com/ for sending text messages triggered by a button press or if a flood sensor/smoke detector goes off?
Use case is a single text to two people in Australia, maybe once per week on average
look into seeing if you can send mms through email
ok, good to know that's possible
as long as whatever email you use supports it like gmail
I'm happy to pay a reasonable amount if needed- I'm far more interested in it being rock solid reliable than totally free, since it's a safety feature
Would that work for both ios and android?
been using it for like 4 years now. not a single issue
Perfect, great to know.
should be no diffrence between apple/android it's an mms
ahh ok, I've found what I need- didn't spot the other tab on the overview π https://support.google.com/fi/answer/6205096?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=0
Set up Messages on Android You can send and receive SMS (text) and MMS (multimedia) messages through the Messages app
Yeah I would have thought so, but I'm permanently jaded by being forced to use apple because my hearing aids won't play nice with anything else
its free to test
I already have a gmail set up between my sister and I just for things relating to supporting mum, so that honestly feels ideal, thanks heaps
this would require my mobile service provider's sms gateway, yeah?
unfortunately I'm able to confirm my phone service doesn't do that
Looks like my two options that I can find are to change mobile providers or to use one of the paid services. Dang.
I have thought about changing before, but it seems I have a pretty good plan and can't swap to one with a gateway available without tripling(!!!) my monthly bill. No thanks.
@clear ferry on a scale from HPE cluster to raspi with sd card, how do you rate this?
Bare metal opn, server 25 on the blue iris box, and a single ssd in the 4U storage enclose, because I wanted to piss you off
|| it actually has 6x12TB drives in the 846 ||
That bad?
No it is actually acceptable
Compared to a raspberry pi, ha yellow/blue/green pink or a manure pile at least
One step up Michelle

I see all the shit kids do that
I have yet to badblock a single drive
Disk failure only happens if you fear it
There is nothing to fear but fear itself
πΎ
They are ironwolf pros, very quiet at idle
I just want to burn the box in really, might as well check it properly
Very reasonable power draw too
Gone from 106/112W to 168/172W on the UPS
My current nas is pulling 130W
So about as much as a single fan in your rack Atx
Half a fan?
Only fans
I just upgraded to Plex premium, and didn't hear a trumpet playing in my server rack
did I do something wrong?
yeah, should have installed jellyfin for free
my recipe for testing drives is to first overwrite the whole drive using dd from /dev/zero. blocks that have been partially written because of a power outage or similar will give s.m.a.r.t errors even if the disk is physically ok. then run a long smart check. and then look at the smart logs.
if a modern-ish s-ata drive starts reporting block errors back to the os instead of remapping it internally it is definitely time to retire it
These are new in box (but had them a while) and guarantee, so I just want to get over any potential "infant mortality" really.
Your way also sounds solid!
i'm old enough to have run disks without internal bad block remapping. you had to check your disks regularly and if there was a new block error track down which file was using it. then remove the file, map out the bad block manually, and restore the damaged file.
it was part of regular maintenance back then.
@clear ferry I grabbed an XC90 off blocket, is this how yours looks?
what are everyone's favorite zigbee bulbs?
The switch kind of bulb ||because having a switch in front of a smart bulb is dumb||. Also, #1284966353798697001
thereβs more or less stuff visible based on conditions I have baked in
Zig-deez nuts
Hah, makes me laugh every time
Deez nuts π
so true
luckily these will be in lamps that will never be turned off hopefully
Me, with a switch that powers off the fan and it's attached lights using smart lights to easily turn off just the lights...
Take it next level and put battery smart bulbs in so they work when the fan is turned off π
Dear god.. the Discord post edit box. It's so infuriating with the HOME/END behaviour. How could a developer create that, HOW???
Ayway.. just pumped a question in help section here. If anyone knows how to set timestamps on SAMBA shares hosted on the HomeAssistant please chime in. Thank you π
I want to rsync to it.
Kinda weird i can make hardlinks, no issue. But no timestamps. Maybe it's an SAMBA limit o_O
Show me some, and I'll consider it. π
Generator charger in the fan to charge the batteries whilst in use
A bit of a late WTH moment, I bought 13 new lights for my living room, luckily grouped in 4 groups, but I just found out that favorite colors are not a global state, but instead stored per light. Is there any way to change the system default favorite colors for all lights? π
This is not a support channel
Mental support is allowed
haha
Apologies Stefan, I looked through the support channels, however I did not find one fitting to the question. Happy to move my question elsewhere though π
Never apologize.
Ah, that wasn't on my channel list! Thank you πββοΈ
pets his speaking backups :P
No it was added later. @lone dagger needs to add it to the common role
Yeah color of lights.. i made mine orange fopr halloween. Still is orange π
Just the one at the front door mind you.
When i get this backup working i will move the USB stick to my dads HA instance. It's remote location. Then i have off-site backup π
Can anyone tell when I fired up the new NAS?
Sorry, I wasn't thinking
Swedish, but they are pretty similar
i always find swedish more understandable than norwegian.
I always read the Swedish ingredients when i lived in Finland π
Mine actually went down π Same disks/jbod, but I replaced the PC with something much more energy efficient.
I also definitely need to re-balance the load across my two UPS:
i like doing this for holidays, need to sync a calendar to it when i have time. and maybe if i'm feeling really spicy tie em to sports. dunno how i'd want to present that though - game days, win/loss, something else
My old one is an L5640 system with 32TB RAW, new one is a Xeon E3 with 72TB RAW. Saving somewhere around 50W it seems (it has run on another UPS that isn't shown on HA)
Finnish and Danish are hardcore mode Nordic language π
Finnish is a whole different beast
I went from a big desktop PC with a Xeon E5-1660v4 CPU and 64GB of RAM and an Nvidia GPU to an MS-01 (which is quite happy to have a SAS HBA shoved up it, so long as it's a modern, low-power one).
I am a brit who lives in Sweden, can read but not listen to Norwegian
The beauty of the external SAS JBOD is the conversion process was "zfs export, move SAS cable to other computer, zfs import"
I know gemran dutch and english. I can follow the Swedes and danes pretty well. But Finnish.. wth came up with that π
(probably the Finnish)
All Frysian languages i reckon. Like old english
What would you estimate your before/ after numbers are?
My old ups said the old system pulls around 130W from the wall
My little power meter said 37W from the wall for the system without disks (new system)
Just for the PC, probably down from ~120W idle / 300W load to ~20W idle / ~80W load.
Don't have an estimate for the JBOD, but it's full of SSDs so the PSU and fans is probably eating most of it
One h.265 to h.264 transcode in Plex with that Nvidia card added close to 60W
Barely moves the needle with the Intel iGPU
New UPS has gone up around 80W though it seems, although the disks are doing a long smart at the moment, not sure if that effects anything, maybe the drives can't park heads or anything
I was at 176W total for the rack before I started the smart tests
I don't want to talk about that π¬
It is crazy as heck anyway
I have a LOT of PoE devices, and an enterprise switch that draws quite a bit at idle
I have 5 PoE cams to add at some point, so I guess if I can keep around 200W it isn't too bad
I got myself a 1930 aruba 48 port switch (not poe), very efficient
No fans and 4x10gb sfp+
Unaffordable now though
Has doubled in price here since I bought it
I run an 8 port active poe injector from a poe switch 48V PSU, need a 2nd injector
Or a 16/24 port fanless poe switch of course π
24 port is probably impossible to find fanless
I have an Arista 720XP-24ZY4. 16x 2.5Gb/30W ports, 8x 5Gb/60W, 4x 25Gb SFP
That is a monster
A couple 2.5gb ports could be useful now you mention it
Got to have high speed wifi whilst you sit on the toilet and contemplate life
I have three 2.5Gb devices (two being WiFi APs), but I'm using three of the SFPs (although all at 10G, not 25G)
But I do also have two 802.3bt devices (one class5/45W, one class6/60W) so it's nice to have that option available
The new fancy aps do draw a lot of power too
That caused us some grief at work.
Bought a pallet load of fancy new WiFi 7 APs, they're class5.
We had three pallets of new switches, which suddenly went from an easy swap-out for EoL switches (basically all in one place), to having to install some EVERYWHERE to be able to power the APs.
Yeah, some tasty weekend overtime for that one
I bet
hey guys i just got my first smart devices, a smart plug and security cam. do i need toget them working with their native apps first, or can i just go straight to homeassistant?
all icare about is locally with ha
Review the HA integrations that support them
And ask further questions in #1284966582375813201
Stair lighting, yes.
Ahh, I thought you had collapsing stairs lmfao
It makes me wonder if anyone is using HA to control a drawbridge over a moat around their house though...
The dream
I prefer HA controlled gun turrets

Im discussing my presentation with gemini. Not impressive feedback but intresting.
Apartently i broke down multiple philosophical ideas with 3 pictures
ahahaha i have just spent about an hour trouble shooting stuff to do with my mqtt setup, when my password included a $2
which when put into "" in bash resolves to the second parameter, which is usually nothing
when i set the password using mosquitto_passwd i must have had it in "", a python script i have also had the password in "", but doesn't do shell stuff
so it didn't work
worryingly: i pasted the password the same way from my passwordmanager into home assistants mqtt integration and that thing is happily reading the mqtt stream
i don't need any help (anymore xD) just wanted to tell someone
Shell quoting happens to the best of us π
anyone wanna investigate if the mqtt password input does shell quoting?
cause i swear i posted the same password in there that doesn't work because the "proper" password had the $2 quoted out in the passwd
im kinda done rn xD
Maybe you used ' instead of " ?
Because that prevents the shell expanding what's inside
i click my pwmanager entry for hamqtt and that puts it in my clipboard
i pasted that for the mosquitto_passwd line and for the python script and for the home assistant mqtt integration
(for non-ambiguity, I meant when you ran mosquito_passwd, if you used single quotes rather than double it wouldn't have expanded the $)
the python script was the one that didn't work until i removed the $2 from the password in my config
so i know the working password does NOT include the $2
i have moved on to check if i can get a discord ping when my hob is nearly done OR doesn't have a time set and is going for more than 5 minutes xD
i like fiddling in shell but i also like automating
Is that to me?
Yes, you're asking in the wrong channel
Oh was just casually asking
I'll make a post when I'm on laptop as I'll try gathering all logs
Casually ask in the right channel please
have you gotten the arc working with conjunction to the Coral on anything, or using each for their own purposes? I'd like to get my arc A750 working to decode / encode for frigate, while the Coral handles inferences. Also wondering if that same split principle can be applied to immich, openwebui, etc. Any advice?
Heating/climate control has got to be the least gimmicky smart feature out there, right
Don't think so
I do smart home things for fun, but I realize that very little of this is actually meaningfully improving my life
You may be doing it wrong then
I used to have a pattern of walking around the house turning lights on and off that seems insane to me now
Things giving you insights into usage or taking over mundane tasks are a great investment into smart devices
The toaster writing you AI messages on the other hand probably isnt
whats wrong with the daily weather on your toast?
I liked getting insights into temp and humidity, but other than that?
Consumable insights are of great use to me
What are consumable insights
Electricity, Gas, Water... Those kinda things
It's the easiest way to become aware of what you are doing, seeing patterns visual, being able to optimize them as wanted
With the addition to rather easily spot faults
being able to see problems before they are catastrophic is good
It's really not about having app control over your lights, at least in my mind
I will say, detecting one leak will quickly pay for the whole set-up
Still too much human in the loop if you ask me. The real future is fully automated of all the big consumers
Most if them already are
Like heating has been pretty much solved for at least three decades
I'm really not sure what there would be to optimize
Yes
Heating up when you're coming home, surely?
It's much more complicated like that and involves many details about the house on which strategy may work best
Yet once set up you don't really need to adjust anything
Toast with the weather forecast burned into it, of course
Most systems nowadays use weather compensation with PID control
I don't really need insights into my gas and water usage and such, if there is a leak yes that's great to know, but it doesn't really change my life otherwise
If leak, flash bedroom lights
Those values can indicate splurging habits aswell as going inefficient heating solutions
It's good to know but probably not critical if you do maintenance
For warnings of inefficient heating I can just check my bill, splurging habits I would know if I had them
Hard to read from your bill. Depends strongly on the weather
Sounds just like the gambling meme ;D
Need an installer who knows what they're doing
wouldn't it be nice to know before it hits your bill? especially if it's something accidental or broken
In the UK you now have heat geek who teach / train based on the science
It's working very well
Maybe, but the chances seem so low and the damages of not knowing also
It's not a question about if but when it will happen
Also, my new (smart) radiator valves warn when a window is detected to be open
Is it? Could be thousands of euros over a few years. I NL gas for heating is 70% of your total energy consumption. A lot to gain there
this conversation did remind me i had a monitoring plug doing nothing so i swapped it onto my garage fridge. so it helped me at least
Wohooo
Over a few years, but the smart stuff only protects from having to wait for the bill
Be careful with those. Zone heating is inefficient
Inefficient how?
It's a bit much to explain, heat geek made a video on it. Basically the cold rooms get heat from the hotter rooms and so the heating system has to work much harder to keep the temp up in that single room
How could that possibly be worse than wasting my heat on the cold rooms directly
Because it has to run at higher flow temp which is generally inefficient
We take a look at a section from our online heating design training which forces us to question just how efficient zoning heating systems is. Using a heat pump for an exaggerated example but also applies to gas boiler heating systems.
In the video, we reference these two articles
https://www.heatgeek.com/weather-compensation-or-load-compensati...
already watching B)
It's true for boilers but it's magnitudes worse for heat pumps
<@&330946878646517761>
At the moment Iβm in the stage with home assistant where the basics are set up, but I donβt know what I donβt know which messes with my usual strategy of βgoogle it until Iβve found some instructionsβ. Anyone got a favourite resource (site, YouTube series, etc.) for increasing my familiarity and understanding, giving examples, demoing the YAML stuff, and generally giving me a launching off point so I can do the things myself?
I donβt want to put a support request in for every little thing I donβt know how to do yet, when learning some more first would probably fix most of my problems.
Sorry, completely my fault! I was banning the other guy on mobile and missed π
Ah understandable lol
I unbanned you as quick as I could
This video was too technical for me
missed or just really followed your heart?
I understand. It's a difficult topic
but I don't have a heat pump so I'm probably good
Well I really have no easy way to find out, smart features or no, so I will stick with my gamble
Also NL? go to bed
To me 21 seems ridiculously warm btw
Well maybe not ridiculous but. try wearing clothes instead
One of the houses I monitor is at 25 all day long
I think though, unironically, my main room is being heated mainly by my PC π¬ which is not ideal
Is it one of those sweat lodges?
Probably old people
or are they just growing tomatoes in there
Old people homes have crazy high temperatures
the room i am in most of the time is pretty toasty by most peoples standards really
yes
That's high
If money were no object I would do that and just be naked all day
19 is perfect for me. Just need warm feet
Do you have floor heating?
Nope. I rent on the second floor and the landlord is a cheapskate
its a small ish room with PC with multiple screens in and not great ventilation
i do want to set up a better ventalation system but not in a position to do alot of perma modifications
Intel CPU? Lol
nope its a 5800x3d
Nice
That is by the way the second least gimmicky thing that my smart home does: monitoring PC power usage
I got 5950x
I've ALWAYS wanted to know and now I finally do
I can also confirm that the PC I built to be very power efficient indeed is
I feel like my heating system should be in the loop on this somehow lol
PCs should consume no power at all. Just stupid inefficiency
it's a lot like changing weather
eh even our brains use power and heat up when we think harder
I feel like we're not escaping that one
Superconductors
this is my desk which is mostly the pc
Or optics
can obviously see when screens are on/off
I'm not monitoring my screens, wish I were
if i am gaming a 3rd level appears
I prefer to refer to it as performing computationally expensive tasks
π
Actually, I should check to see how compiling compares
that should be interesting, but no graphics card involved so probably still less
yeah probably depends on your cpu
i have been thinking about adding some more tracking to my rack to monitor equipment seperatly
could split this up a bit π
torn between a bunch of smart plugs or to get/make a PDU with monitoring built in
or if you're fancy.. get a PDU and stick a bunch of shelly's inside.. π
yeah there's various options. i was thinking about it as a project but then got a bit decision stunlocked and shelved it for now
currently no UPS either. so if/when redoing the power setup i would probably want to add UPS at the same time too
It would be nice to have a monitor on the strip and a monitor on the PC plug and get the peripherals by subtracting
Oh yeah, I had this thought: what if I just overspecced the radiators in the heated zones
I say "just" but I realize that would be a bit of an investment
and you call that a rack; with no UPS. smh
yeah yeah, for shame for shame
ups will reaplce the drawer at some point
is there a place in HA to see a devices IP?
it depends on the integration. you are usually better off looking at your routers dhcp table
can you make a non airplay receiver support airplay with home assistant?
to my knowledge... no. if you could it would probably be a music assistant thing. you can maybe use music assistant to solve your actual problem in any case. if further questions move to the support section #1284966582375813201
anyone here already ran the recorder to remove orphaned entities from the database ?
I have a very weird issue atm : https://community.home-assistant.io/t/lost-all-my-charts-after-cleaning-orphaned-entities-with-spook/871061
Hi everyone, Iβm reaching out because Iβm completely stuck after doing some long-overdue cleanup on my Home Assistant instance. For reasons I still donβt understand, I suddenly ended up with over 43,000 entities in my setup, including nearly 4,000 lights and 4,000 media players. Needless to say, I donβt live in a shopping mall, and some...
not sure where to discuss this, if a mod knows the chan to head to, I'm all ears π
best off starting a thread in #1284966582375813201
thanks !
I linked my forum post, too many chars to copy it directly in the thread, super weird issue.
Fixed my desk @last cedar , found some nice used speakers
Also, americans ridiculous outlets will forever be outlussy for me, it feels like this whenever I havd to use such an outlet
don't be posting neat and organised desk photos you will make me feel bad for the chaos that is mine
i gotta do a pass across it soon, its getting more chaotic than usual and i need room for new chaos
Glad I'm not alone
The 4 minutes just after you clean it before all your stuff goes back on it?
depends how many half active projects are on the go too
Don't you have a second desk where all the half active projects go
And a cupboard for the older half active projects
2nd desk is mostly full and the top of cupboard cant take much more or it will fall me π
the auxiliary box has been overflowing since i had to shelve a project after ran into a problem with the laws of physics
Ah that stupid thing the laws of physics
Always getting in the way
Whoever thought up those laws to stop us π
Just after
Oh wow a HP printer
Surprised you even tolerate a printer within 1km of you
Wife needs it, I use it 2 times a year to sign privacy agreements
Lol
The Ikea container
Contain me like one of your Swedish girls
just 3d print a template of the document, coat with ink and press into paper. go full Gutenberg style
Gutenberg nacht to you too
Could be worse:
Let's see:; work phone charger, personal phone charger, laptop cord, extra micro USB for the old things that still use it, plus my tiny atom Echo sitting on top, lol.
Oh, and my charger for my watch.
"why is it on the wall?" You ask? Well, my cats knock it all between the bed frame and the wall while I'm at work otherwise. π
Get a multi-port charger. Also wtf is a "outlussy"?
i can make a guess but i don't really want to....
but which outlet type is big enough to actually fit π?
Cheaper to just use what I already have, though.
Never mind. I looked it up. Stupid kids.
Not if it catches fire. 5x the risk there.
shush
No more fire risk than some cheap 5 port USB adapter. Gonna be the same amount of power flowing through the lines.
Don't buy garbage then.
That's the neat part. I didn't buy anything.
Including insurance.
insurance sort of de-risks the other part though
My homeowner's insurance is $1800 a year.
Less talk, more memes.
There used to be an add on that did this for Chromecastβ but it only allowed for airplay 1 not 2. Which means no syncing with other devices.
