A big part of the problem is that homeowners insurance, like all insurance, is designed to address low probability, high severity events. It breaks for catastrophies that impact entire regions or areas and not individual policyholders. Insurance doesn't work if the entire customer base has claims all from the same event. This is why flood insurance has historically been handled by the government, becuase the economics to provide flood insurance aren't realistic for a private market, capitalist solution. Now climate change is shifting more events into this category where disasters affect too many people to be insured traditionally.

hey guys, i'm looking at getting a new router and am thinking of getting my first ever mesh router and just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything i should know about for mesh routers and HA if i've got a lot of wifi stuff? like, is the way mesh stuff works mean it's the same network across the whole house, so wifi devices on one end will still work on the same ssid as the wifi devices on the other end, right?

I have a Worcester Bosch Smart Thermostat. There is no way to boost the heating for an hour and then have it turn off. As it turns out this is sold in Europe as NeFit Easy, where it does have this functionality. I tried IFTTT, then Worcester Bosch figured out that it was too useful and removed their integration with it. I went into HA because there was an addon for it, literally got a HA install just so that I could have the heating boost up for 1 hour then go back down.

More work on changes was done today! Today I updated all of the Support channels' Posting Guidelines to point to the new best posting guidelines channel (which is still hidden at this time) and the appropriate Channel description threads. I also made sure all of the old archived channels were properly pointing people in the right direction for the soon-to-be current status of the support channels.

Tomorrow I expect to set up the new Resource pages (which will make the links with no access accessible), move the #find-support channel to that category, update it to be less word soup, then I will be updating a few channel names. With the name changes will come archiving #1284965172053807145 in favor of the channel its tags have been merged with (#1284966582375813201).

Is there a way of getting HA to show smart bulbs that can't be contacted as Off ? I have a set of 3 in my kid's ceiling fan, which has a dumb switch,. The lights themselves remember their settings and will turn on basically instantly at the last setting if you turn the dumb switch back on. But if anyone in the home turns the switch off, I want HA dashboard to show them as off, not On.

I live in a not-quire rural, but not-quite-suburb area that until fairly recently was considered a farming community. We have kids that run up and down the street on ATVs and golf carts, but no city police because people equate "city" with "crime" and refuse to incorporate, despite having higher population density than some small cities nearby.
